  1. After upgrading to Affinity Photo 1.7 I can now no longer find where or how to set the stroke width of font elements. I create a font and write a text and i have found I can use the alternative colour on the colour palette to make a stroke colour on the font, but I can not find any way of editing the width of this stroke. This previously used to be an option from the Font sub menu bar. Where has it gone?
  2. On the help pages of Affinity, it shows me these shortkeys to resize brush width, etc. (see attachment) Being on windows, holding the right mouse key and alt, then moving my cursor doesn't do anything! What am I missing?
  3. Hi, I already drew a picture and realize now that the width of the paint brush is too thin and I have been searching everywhere for how to change the width of the paint brush strokes but I haven't found any solutions and I experimented with things and nothing has changed. Is there a way to fix this? Thank you.
  4. You can enter percentages in the width/height property fields under the transform tab. I just wanted to resize a rectangle by typing because I wanted it to be exactly half the width. I am lazy and bad at calculating by head so I figured I just enter "50%" in the width field of the rectangle under the transform tab. And it worked
  5. When defining a stroke width, Affinity Designer (and Publisher) currently converts decimals more than one place to tenths. It is important to have the ability to specify decimals in the stroke width of a line up to four decimal places so that the software can be used to define vector cut lines in laser engraving software. Case in point - the users manual for Trotec Job Control states that for vector lines to cut with a laser, you must set them at a width of "0.001 mm or 0.00005 inches" (see attached screenshot). You currently cannot do that with Affinity Designer/Publisher, if you type in a width of "0.0036pt" (equal to 0.00005 inches) as the stroke width, the software will convert 0.0036 to zero. Actually anything less than 0.1 will get rounded down to zero. This is important functionality if we were to completely replace Illustrator & InDesign. Thanks.
  6. Probably on my top 10 most used features in Illustrator is the stroke width tool, which allows you to adjust the width of the stroke at each anchor point. This can somewhat be achieved using the Pressure tab within the pen line settings, but it isn't nearly as precise. A couple of solutions might be: Add a stroke width tool to allow anchor points to be adjusted. Within the pressure panel, display a point on the graph for every anchor point from the shape. And allow these to be adjusted only vertically on the graph by holding shift, so that they stay on the anchor points. Create a new panel in the pen menu that allows for a numerical value to be entered in for stroke width. Thanks for listening.
  7. This should be addressed to the Affinity Range. Dashed lines should not scale by length when adjusting the width, only the width should increase, as it stands, if you increase the width of a dashed line from say .5mm to 1mm the dashes increase in length knocking any phase adjusts you have made "out of whack" effectively destroying the phase setting. What should happen is the width of the dash should increase and the length of the dash should not, this means any phase adjustments you have applied will be retained. This leads me on to Alignment, there should be an alignment option to create a symmetrical dash, the corners would have a symmetrical L shaped dash and single lines would have a half dash at each end. See bottom image for an example. Affinity @ .5mm 12-6-0-0 Affinity @ 1mm 12-6-0-0 Dashes scale by length and go out of alignment. Adobe Illustrator @ .5mm 12-6-0-0 Adobe Illustrator @ 1mm 12-6-0-0 (No length scaling dash stays put) Adobe Illustrator with Alignment applied, makes a neat dashed line.
  8. I've been trying to figure out how can I change width of line/brush stroke that goes gradually from 0 to any desired width. Maybe there is something in stroke/brush properties. I tried: Properties when Stroke card selected also Edit brush (preassure) So I edited my custom brush as shown in the picture below but curve still has equal width all the way. Thanks for the advices or links to this kind of issue if there is already! Martin
  9. I guess this has been requested before, but the fact that this very helpful tool is not yet in Affinity Designer, makes me feel envious of my workmates using Adobe Illustrator. I'm not talking about the graph, but the tool that gives you the capability to adjust the width of strokes at a selected point. Can you guys confirm if you are working on it, please? I would get very excited!
  10. I don't even know the right way to talk about this, so it's likely this is possible and I just can't find it. When I open a doc in AfPub, in the lower right corner there's a minitab labeled "Transform" -- this is distinct from the Layer -> Transform menu item; here I can just set the item's control point, X and Y Location (x and y), Width, Height, Rotation, and Skew for the selected item(s). Is there a keyboard shortcut (or way to make one) to alter these or put the focus in one of these boxes? Related, and again I don't know what to call it, but if the current selection is, say, a polygon, there's a bar of configuration options running just above the document. It has, e.g., the name of the shape, the fill, stroke, number of sides, etc. What is that called, and how do I get focus there without using the mouse? Thanks!
  11. Can anyone tell me what keeps happening to my pencil strokes, and what to do about it? I am drawing using the pencil tool. The thick black stroke in the first image is what I have been using, and it is what I want. However, in the middle of drawing something (in this case, I was tracing the shape that is on the bottom left of both images), all of a sudden all of my strokes disappear (compare images below). The pencil lines are still there, but the thick black part is gone and I'm left with just the thin blue selection lines (not the selection box; I mean the lines that make up the curves themselves are now just thin blue lines). And I don't mean just on the particular curve I've been working on, I mean when this happens every stroke in the document (even on other, supposedly locked layers) has gone from thick black lines to almost invisible thin lines. When I check the stroke settings—brush width, size variance, solid line style, etc.—none of them have changed, but my nice thick black lines are still gone. Changing these settings has no effect, and undoing has no effect—I can undo all the way back to the point at which I first drew each line, and they are still thin blue lines the whole time, not thick black ones. This has happened to me in two different documents so far, and because I can't find a way to fix the lines or undo whatever happened, I have had to start over from scratch, which really blows. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong and how to fix it? I've searched the forums and tutorials for help but haven't found any info. If you reply please have mercy and use laymen's terms. :) I am very new to Affinity Designer, and to graphic design programs in general. Thank you very much.
  12. Maybe I am blind and I totally missed it somehow, but I'm not able to set the width of the stroke (of a rectangle for example) to 1px. Or is this not (yet, hopefully) implemented? Thanks in advance guys! :)
  13. APhoto I need to measure distances and I seem to be missing some sort of tape measure tool. So resorted using the selection tool and selecting the area I want to measure but I don't see any information either that would give me some sort of readout of the W/H of the selected area. I can see that the info panel is showing the width and height of the selection AS I DRAG, but as soon as I let the mouse/trackpad go, the readout for W/H disappears.
  14. Hi guys, When using Frame Text, is it possible to have it simply resize to the words content horizontally? Like simply keep one line, and have the text go as much as you want horizontally, without having to drag the text handler to make the frame wider, to avoid the text going on a new line. Thanks, Chris

    Line Style Help

Can anyone give me any tips on how to achieve lines similar to the style done in the show 'Ed Edd n Eddy'?The line widths are all over the place. Would this be done with a specific brush or by manually altering the line widths?
  16. Hello, Is possible to set a real 1px of stroke width with no antialiasing? Thank you!
  17. Strange bug… I am in Pixel Persona, and switch back into Draw Persona. The stroke changes from what I set (1.5pt basic line) to a vector brush at a large stroke width (DAUB Inker 15.4pt) I repeat the process, and the same thing happens again.
  18. In Illustrator I use the Stroke Width Tool and lot and I've found that when I import Ai files over to Affinity Designer, the strokes that have been modified with the Illustrator Width Tool have all been expanded and therefore no longer strokes. Obviously this presents a compatibility problem where all my previous strokes are no longer editable. I'd like to see a directly compatibly with the Illustrator Width Tool or not have the strokes expanded and converted the Affinity Designers Pressure adjustment (Though I like the direct Width Tool much more). Thanks.
  19. Hi people. I ever use adobe illustrator for my job, but the affinity designer showed a incredible software and a great promise. But unfortunately i've been missing some tools I did not find in the Affinity Designer. Could they help me know if these tools exist in Affinity? Tool 1: Blend Tool. In the adobe illustrato exist the possibility to blend forms and linde, creating interpolation between the forms. Is there something similar in the Affinity Designer ? Tool 2: Aling to Key Object Tool 3: Width Tool In the Illustrator existe the possibility to thicken and taper the lines in the drawing. On the Affinity Designer, the only option I found for this would be the pressure panel. Is there the possibility to control this effect straight in line? At first these are my main doubts. Thank you to anyone who can help me! Fernando Constant
  20. I create maps in QGIS (an open source GIS mapping program on PC and Mac). QGIS can export as PDF and SVG, but the best way is PDF. The problem with PDF's is that all the lines come in as individual layers (objects) while in SVG'sthey are at least grouped as sublayers. To get around this in Illustrator, I can use the Select>Same>Stroke Color and then move all the selected features to a new single layer group. Designer could use an expanded selection ability like Illustrator's. As far as selecting goes, there's a plugin for Illustrator called Select by rj-graffix.com which adds many selection abilities (but right now it doesn't appear that Designer supports plugins). Freehand used to have really robust selection abilities via a dialog box, and this included text attributes. Illustrator has never come close. Thanks.
  21. Hey Serif, is there (in aff designer) an option to minimize the studio panel tools to single icons as its implemented in PS? I work often on my 15" inch laptop with fullhd and i have lack of place here because the studio has its own minimal width and cannot be minimized. Viewport is much better in PS thanks this and i will appreciate this feature in designer too, because i actually replaced PS by your sexy software :) Thanks. Sorry for possible topic duplicate - i couldn't read every feature request here. Tom
  22. In AD, Sometimes when I changed the width of a stroke, created by the pen tool, in the "Transform" box, the stroke disappears. The number in the "W:" box disappears, and I can't do anything in the program. It doesn't freeze completely though. When I hover over objects, they are highlighted, but when I click on an object, nothing happens. I've tried to re-enter the width, delete key, and pretty much everything else. After a while of clicking around, the program crashes. I can't recreate it with a newly opened document, but maybe I'm not recreating it correctly. It usually happens after a few hours of work.
  23. It should be possible to only have one axis in a grid, for columnar layouts common in web and print design. Those use cases don't really need a second axis, and all the unnecessary horizontal grid lines are distracting in that context.
  24. For me, the UI for the Stroke colour and width could be refined. Now, the width indicator is always white and it doesn't reflect the current colour that is being used for the stroke. For me, it would be better if the stroke width indicator (if that is what it is called) appeared as the same colour as the stroke that was being applied. Sorry if that isn't so clear but my screen shot should make it clear. Hokusai PS. I'm loving new beta!
  25. Good morning everyone, I've noticed some amusing (but also irritating) behaviors of strokes, depending on how we initially created them. Let me explain how to reproduce. # Test 1 Choose the Pen Tool and create an horizontal line. Set its stroke width to 1px (or whatever). No issue at this point. The stroke is drawn with a center alignement. Note anyway, UI could be improved by greying out the stroke alignment options since they have no effect for a single opened path. # Test 2 Choose the Rectangle Tool and draw a star… a rectangle. Set its stroke to the same width you previously chose. Set the stroke alignment to outside Convert your rectangle to curve. Select the top left & top right nodes and delete them, you will obviously get an horizontal path like in # Test 1 Here comes the issue, the stroke of this opened path will be twice the width set on the panel Note that from now on, you can change the stroke alignment setting and it will be applied to the path (it was not working for the # Test 1) Selecting an inside alignment will result to an invisible stroke, even if it's width is set > 0 Etc. I leave up to you to decide if it's better to greyout UI elements or let them available. But I think the behavior needs to be harmonized in a general way so these opposite situations can't happens. Thanks for everything you do to make your app better every single day!
