  1. Hey Everyone, Just wanted to see if anyone else has experience any issue with Affinity Photo and on Wacom Mobile Studio Pro? I am running the top spec model and seem to be getting a flicking black screen when doing simple tasks such as mask selection and painting. I know that most will say that this has to be a hardware issues given Wacom recent track records and the mountains of complains. However, after some heavy testing and benchmarking, I can not recreate this issue in any other program including all of Adobe's product line. To be clear, the screen does not become unresponsive; it simply turns off and then back on... for example if am painting a section masks and the screen flickers during the stroke, the stroke will be completed properly. Seems that there maybe an issue with how AP/AD is talking to the the GPU; I know that in Substance Painter I had to make and adjustment in regedit to prevent GPU hangs on Nvidia cards. List of Programs I tested with no issues: All done with same 2 million polygon model ZBrush - Polypaint,BPR,Sculpting, General 3DCoat - PBR Rendering, Sculpting Blender - Sculpting, Viewport Rendering, Cycles Render Photoshop - 8 Example from the Affinity Photo Workbook Core Skills sections Substance Painter - Rendering, PBR Maramoset Toolbag3 - Rendering Unity Adam Demo Fire strike Benchmark Unigine Haven There are more...but nothing in the above list had any issue running large or even the same files Any advice would be helpful because at the moment, Affinity Photo is useless to me on this machine. Thanks
  2. Hi Team, In navigating document, brush will leave marks on canvas while using shortcuts. Is also the same for using mouse or other input device so believe if it is bug related to Affinity Photo. It is ok for painting men with beards, but not suitable for princesses :) I am not sure if this is default behaviour? I would love to see a fix for it though so asking the question here. 3. Hey, I use a Huion 610pro, with Krita, and I have this same issue, I have tried every free drawing software and even trials for some of the expensive ones, but I get this issue as well, I am hoping that someone can find a fix for this.

    Locked-in Zoom in AP

Hello, not sure if this is really a bug or a feature but I try to find more about the zoom behaviour in AP. I am using AP most of the time with my Wacom Intuos Pro and control AP with the use of shortcuts on the keyboard. So right hand holds the pen while the left hand chooses the tools via keyboard. So with "Z" I start the Zoom Function for zooming in and with "Alt" for zooming out. Nothing special until now. But when I try to switch to another tool like panning (H) or smudging (K) it seems that the Zoom function is still locked in and does not want to let me out. Instead of this I am typing a lot of Hs and Ks within the zoom's percentage field. Needless to say that this field was not active before, because I was clicking all the time on the canvas. Another weird behavious is when I try to use the canvas' scrollbars or choose another layer in the layer panel but AP interprets this as a control action for the zoom function and instead of scrolling or layer switching I zoom in and out like crazy. The only method I discovered to stop this weird behaviour is by switching between the applications and returning to AP using ALT+Tab or to pick my mouse and click directly on the tool's panel. To sum this up: those weird behaviour does not always happen but quite often. It is not a big problem but it interrupts my workflow (picking up the mouse, switch windows etc.). So I wonder if this sticky zoom-function is a bug (or a feature) or can I easily switch this stickyness off by a secret checkbox within the programms settings? Any adivce is appreciated.
  5. I am not an artist but using a Wacom in Paint on my PC to create illustrations for a series of Children's Books I've written. The tutorials I have been able to find all seem to assume that Wacom users like me are all using Photoshop. I am not into Photoshop and hope that I can do what I want to do using a Wacom in the Paint program on my PC. I can't find out whether I'm doing something wrong - but when I try to 'layer' a character over a background (the airbrush in 3D is my favourite for backgrounds), the character that looks great in it's original 'transaprent' form, is imported with white blurry lines around the edges. I know that I am probably doing something basically wrong, but have asked the question due to being unable to find an answer in the usual forums. Have attached an example of what is happening. Thanks, Denis.
  6. I installed Designer and Photo on my Windows 10 computer with my Wacom intuos board. I have used all programs with my Mac desktop for over a year with no issues. Mac died tonight. So purchased the windows version and am now attempting to set up the intuous. Tracing my art is coming across as 'skewed'. an example is my attempt of drawing a circle is creating an ellipse in the program. I added the software and did a 'handshake' with software and Wacom. they are talking. I have attached the art and a photo of the sketch I was attempting to duplicate. Are there any updates or fixes for this issue? I downloaded the program 5/3/2018. Thanks
  7. Hi, I've just bought Affinity Designer for Windows (I have Windows 8.1 pro). Unfortunately, pressure sensitivity on my tablet Wacom Intuos doesn't work. I've read everything related to this topic and tried every solution written on this forum. Still, nothing works for me :( I really need the solution, cause this feature is very needed in my commercial project - frankly speaking, I bought Affinity mostly because of this project, so I hope you'll find solution in the nearest future.
  8. Using a Wacom Intuos. When I use pressure settings for flow, the brush will render correctly over unfilled pixels, but previously colored pixels will fill erratically, resulting in jagged edges and sub-layer bleedthrough. This makes rendering and building up values absolutely impossible. New to Affinity photo so this may be a settings issue, but I lowered DPI and fairly certain it's not hardware related. I rely on this for income so please help if you can point me in the right direction.
  9. I have been fiddling with how to zoom and pan with my Wacom tablet. Managed to get the zoom to work by rotating the touch ring. For panning, at one point on one file, I can pan using 3 finger swipe gesture. The other time I created the new artboard, deleted the old one, the panning with gesture just stopped working. If I swipe 3 fingers, it select the object instead. Then I tried holding spacebar method, the tool just got stuck in "pan" forever. The only way to get out of the pan mode is to click the hand tool once, then click the other tool I want to use. Is this a bug?
  10. During trial, I was able to scroll the touch ring on my Wacom Intuos Pro for zooming ( couldn't do pinching as I always do in Illustrator). Today just purchased Affinity Designer, I can't zoom with anything. Rotating the touch ring only scroll up and down. Any fix?

Jagged brush lines on quick strokes

Hi, I have big problems with both AD (also the latest Beta) & AP: I get very jagged/angular lines, especially when drawing quickly. It seems the digitizer can not keep up with the stroke. I made a screenshot in AD. It seems to occur more with the pixel brushes. The problem is visible in any brush I pick. see screenshot I am working with the last Version of El Capitan. I tried the latest Wacom driver, and also an older one - no difference. I have no Problems with other programs, I tried Clip Studio, Photoshop, Sketchbook and Krita and they work just fine. As it is, I can not use AD & AP for any kind of freehand drawing and painting, which really sucks: I hope you have a solution!

Brush Tool with Wacom Tablet = Slow

I'm on macOS High Sierra 10.13.1. I have an early 2013 15-inch Retina Macbook Pro connected to a Intuos Pro small tablet. I use the brush tool in Affinity Designer to doodle simple drawings for animated videos. I've seen serious lag in the Brush tool performance since upgrading to the 1.6.0 version. I pick up the brush tool, try to draw something with my Wacom pen and there is a 1-2 second lag before the brush hits the screen. This sounds like a small thing but when you're drawing 100-200 images for a video, it quickly becomes very annoying. Basically, I need to start every drawing 3-5 times before I the brush "lands" the right way on the screen. I don't have this issue with using the latest version of Illustrator. How do I optimize the performance for my system/use case? Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

    affinity designer brush spots

I don't know if it is a Wacom driver related issue, but using a Cintiq 13HD in Designer's pixel persona, the brush drops full-size dots accidentally. (as if Designer window loses focus time to time) Either in Windows ink mode or not. (tablet preferences). The ancient times it was an issue in Photoshop too.
  14. Hi, every time I plug in my Intuos tablet it's like playing the roulette with the zooming options (Zoom In/out the doc) of the trackpad (Macbook pro) that get disabled. Does anyone knows how to fix this issue? Cheers.
  15. This will sound crazy to some but I have an Apple Pencil and find it much less efficient than a tablet due to the ability to hover over an area. I guess it’s become second nature after using graphics tablets for years. I saw that Procreate has third party tablet support and wondered if it might be possible to integrate it with Affinity Photo too. It’s great to be further back from the screen too. I have the tiny intuos photo pen and touch which is small enough to carry anywhere.
  16. After working a few minutes in an illustration with my Wacom Intuos Pro Medium tablet, I was unable to select tools or menu options -- anyway, the software keeps working with the last tool selected. I had to quit AD using ALT-F4. The issue occurs the same way with new and old files. If I use my Logitech mouse the problem does not occur (apparently). Had to downgrade to version 1.6.1.93. Hope the new version gets fixed soon.

    Light pen pressure errors

Hi, I'm learning some digital painting techniques and hoped to use Affinity Designer for my work. However, I'm experiencing errors when using my pen tablet and light pressure during faster work. Basically, it seems as if: 1. Clicks are registering and therefore leaving single circles/stroke shapes at random times 2. The drawing isn't starting at the beginning of applying pressure, but rather, after a short amount of movement. Here's a video: http://take.ms/D21u2 Can anyone shed some light on this issue? I'm not experiencing the problem in Photoshop or Krita. Thank you.
  18. Hey! Hope you all are doing well! First Thanks for all that you all do and are working towards! Thanks for providing the community with a great and constantly improving program. After using Affinity Designer, there are a few things from utilizing a tablet and the program that I think would benefit user experience and workflow. - Tablet Options When utilizing a tablet. Having some availability options to change and set keys with the tablets through the app would be great. Also, shape/pressure options within the application as well. I suppose more enhanced support when it comes to tablets. - Expanding stroke. When utilizing this, it seems to over compensate on the strokes causing bigger unproportioned (To the original stroke) shapes and makes it difficult to combine/merge the layers to one full layer. -Dividing shapes. When using this, If there could be an option with how many duplicates it makes. It divides and cuts out all the parts, but it does it by doubling up the parts and i end up having to shift around layers to get it to its original state to start working again. Hope this one makes sense. Ill attach examples. Again thanks for what you all do and are developing there at Serif Labs!
  19. Hello Affinity, I'm so glad to see an app like this in the marketplace. However, I can't use it for digital painting and illustration yet because of one MAJOR missing feature: Tablet pressure controlled opacity with the paint brush. As it stands you can set pressure on brush size and flow (among other things) but for digital painters opacity is the most important pressure control you can have. I'd say it's pretty darn important for retouchers as well. Please add this feature soon, because as of now Affinity Photo is unusable for me. Thanks!
  20. I have used a wacom tablet successfully for many years now in Pageplus and Photoplus. They give me just the right amount of control. Now I am making good progress in Affinity Photo and gradually learning to do the same tasks as I previously did in Photoplus. This may be due to me remaining with Windows 7 64bit and it possibly is due to other causes but I do have the inconvenience of having the stylus failing to work properly in the new application and I have to resort to the use of the mouse for selections and to make choices from the menus. I would be interested to learn if anyone else has had a similar result with a tablet stylus. John
  21. In Version 1.6.2.97 and 1.6.2.98 i detected this behaviour.
  22. HI I found a problem with displaying the brush size in Affinity Photo (1.61.93) Win 10 PL. When working with a Wacom tablet or on a Surface Pro. The size and center of the brush are not displayed. I have to use a mouse or touch pad then it appears. After changing to the pen disappears (Sometimes it works for a while after changing.) I thought it was a Wacom driver problem, but on Surface is similar. It's good to see a brush spot, but by drawing off the mask you can only see the white arrow. Robert screen rec.mp4
  23. Hi, I'm using Sierra with a Wacom Intuos 4 medium. There is something going on with the pressure sensitivity in AP. There may bea second issue that affects both AP and AD but I'm not very clear about it. Issues 1) [only AP] The first issue that I notice is that when you tap without dragging, AP will draw a dot with a very large radius (would say around 3/4 of the max radius), disproportionate to the actual pressure applied. This is particularly evident if you try to draw lightly with the stylus barely touching (<10% pressure); whenever it loses and momentarily regains contact with the tablet surface it draws blobs like ink spill as seen in the image blow and demonstrated in the 1st video linked at the end. 2) [both AP and AD] I'm not 100% sure about this one (maybe it's in my mind), but I have the impression that the minimum pressure range but also the maximum pressure range that AP and AD read are capped compared to what my tablet will output (as seen in the drivers' test area) or CSP (Clip Studio Paint) will utilize. It's definitely not a bid deal, but I thought I should report it nonetheless. Video demonstration I've linked 3 video files: 1) The 1st shows drawing a stroke alternating between using minimum pressure for a few seconds, and then max pressure a few more as seen in the Test Area in [system Preferences] -> [Wacom] -> [Customize...]. After that it goes on showing how the same exact pattern appears in Affinity Photo (while on the right you can see the diagnostics of the tablet showing the actual pressure). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dny6nicIIA (AP is creating these unpleasant circles) 2) The 2nd video shows how this appears in Affinity Designer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rlFVuauzUxA (just fine!) 3) and the 3rd one how it is in Clip Studio Paint (manga studio). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2__eJJwhcQ (notice how the thinnest stroke in CSP is thinner than the thinnest in AP and the thickest is thicker) All 3 programs, and the wacom driver have been set up with linear pressure response, starting from 0. Notice that by default the wacom driver doesn't start from zero as seen in the image below. Hope these help! -Fotis
  24. Hello there, I am drawing on a Wacom Bamboo Slate, which can export your drawings (and writing via a kind of OCR) to text, image formats and SVG. Here's Wacom's specs for the Slate: http://www.wacom.com/en/products/smartpads/bamboo-slate#Specifications The Slate's ballpoint pen is marketed as having 1024 levels of pressure which in theory seems a bit much for a ballpoint pen, but would be nice if it could reproduce the light and heavy strokes you have made on paper. My problem is that the SVG files exported from Wacom's Inkspace app are filled black shapes instead of strokes. The shapes are thicker than the original paper lines, losing most of the line width variance, and I cannot find a way to reduce the width as you would with a stroke. I am attaching an image to illustrate my problem. Any thoughts on how to convert these shapes into strokes so that I could make them thinner? Many thanks in advance! PS there may be an answer in the thread below ('line width is not yet fully supported in the SVG standard'), but I'd like to confirm if something can be done about this using Affinity Designer? https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/45452-how-do-i-import-paths-they-keep-turning-into-shapes/#comment-227169
  25. Hi Guys, first thanks for this beauty, but have some little problem with the Wacom Intuos tablet. Brushes are very slow and in fact not really usable! I have to work now with the mouse to get things working.:( I use Window 10 leatest version.
