  1. Maybe I'm missing something but when I'm working on multiple artboards, if I create a slice manually and then I move an artboard, the position of that slice is changed. Object slices are working as expected. Great software :) keep it up! I'm a new poster and not permitted to upload video :/ windows 10
  2. Hi. This is an old, old, old solved bug returning on 1.6.1 If I duplicate an artboard and change the name, its associated export slice retains the old name. Also, changing existing artboard name doesn't change slice's one. It is happening randomly. Sometimes it happens, sometimes not, I can't find a pattern to give you steps to reproduce. Not sure if is a general issue or is triggered by something. I suspect it happens on documents created in the previous version. It seem to work correctly on documents created directly on 1.6.1 Feel free to request further info or a problematic document.
  3. I would like to be able to configure layer visibility for each slice independently. This would help iterating export of many slightly different designs.
  4. Everytime I try to export slices the file output is always the wrong dimensions. Everytime i export something it exports as 1920x1080. I need my exports to be 64x64 px. What could be causing it to export with the wrong dimensions? I should note that I dont use artboards in my current projects setup. Could this possibly have something to do with the wrong exported file dimensions?
  5. Hi, My first time creating a topic on this forum, please excuse any errors / oversights. Today I encountered this error on Affinity Designer on Windows 10. I had 6 artboards in a file. I created slices and exported jpegs and closed the file. Later on when modifications were done to some of the artboards and ready for exporting slices again, the file kept on crashing when the slices panel was opened. On searching the forums for similar issues reported by others, I came across this (and other similar) thread(s):- I think this issue was addressed earlier, but has resurfaced in this version. I updated Affinity Designer to last Saturday (19th Sept 2020) from the earlier version 1.8.4.x. Since my workflow (almost always) involves creating multiple artboards and exporting slices I can say with confidence that I have never encountered this issue earlier, i.e. since Nov 2019 when I began using Affinity Designer. In the meanwhile, I copied the artwork to a new file and refrained from creating slices. The new file has been behaving OK. Please let me know if you require additional inputs from me.
  6. Hi I'm using Affinity Designer to create icons. I a single layer, I have an icon with 7 sizes. My slices names as like this: _16x16 _32x32 _64x64 etc. When I'm in the Export Persona, I select "Slices" and clicks "Export slices", then I enter a name like "MyIcon". Is there a way to tell Affinity Designer to merge the exported filename "MyIcon" into the slicename, så the slice names will end up as... MyIcon_16x16 MyIcon_32x32 MyIcon_64x64 ...? That way I can reuse the layer, change the icons and export it with a new name like "MyNewIcon" and it will automatically export slices as .. MyNewIcon_16x16 MyNewIcon_32x32 MyNewIcon_64x64 I would like to call the slice names something like... {filename}_16x16 {filename}_32x32 {filename}_64x64 etc. Thanks
  7. I started this thread a while back , but no answers, still doing this on new version. Thanks Gary
  8. I'm in the process of making screen pictures to my Mac. Rather than cropping my pictures to 10x16 (the screen proportions, 1600 by 2540 pixels actually) in the photo persona I decided to use slices in export persona, since this would enable me to export in other formats, resolutions and croppings in the future. So after developing the raw picture and adding an extra layer for retouching I switch to export persona and draw a slice with the slice tool, entering exact proportions of what's effectively a crop. I rename the slice ensure proper format (jpeg high quality) and add proper resolution (1600h actually) and export this slice only . Embed metadata checkbox checked of course. The picture itself comes out exactly as I planned it, but when I check there are no metadata. As a sidecheck I exported the same picture with File | Export and also exported the slice, if that is the word, which appear to be automatically created by export persona. Both times metadata was exported as it should. Well actually some metadata was lost, but I believe this to be an import issue (research continues). For this I used Affinity Photo 1.8.4 on MacBook Pro 13 inch 2017 running Catalina 10.15.6 Delfinhopp_EOS_760D_20-08-07_2851.afphoto EOS_760D_20-08-07_2851.CR2 EOS 760D 20-08-07 2851.xmp
  9. Hey, I have a issue that was in the past DESIGNER and still in the new update. I have a document i always reuse. 2 art boards. One is a wide format for social media , the other square. I change the content and also rename the art boards for output , so they have the correct name. When i rename the art board and switch to slice module, the art boards have the old name before i rename them. So I have to rename them twice. Anyway to get this fixed? Thanks Gary
  10. At the moment, at least as far as I understand, a slice is only output at its current resolution (and multiples for iOS devices 1x, 2x and forthcoming 3x) as per its size on the canvas. It would be great if there was a way to manually set the output file resolution per slice. So for example, if a slice is set up for a section say 100 x 100 pixels on the canvas, a custom output size, such as 360 x 360 pixels could be specified for the target file. This would provide great flexibility. Multiple slices for the same area would then allow many different output resolution images to be generated for the same graphic (eliminating the need for having the 1x, 2x etc options). The additional target output size settings would ideally be placed on the 'export options' panel and would contain a means of optionally fixing the aspect ratio and also be saved as part of the preset. Default presets could include 'iOS 1x Icon', 'iOS 2x Icon' etc. I hope this makes sense. Fantastic, user friendly app! Keep up the excellent work.
  11. When exporting images/Slices, is there a way to change individual file paths? I would like to export x number of Slices of the same file name to various locations.
  12. I have about 90-80 slices in my project (It's and Android app) , and each slice is exported to a number of files (PNG and SVG). When using my mouse wheel scrolling up and down, folding and unfolding my slice to check that the export looks ok Designer freezes. 1. I first created a "master" export setup manually, exporting one SVG file and a number of PNG files in various resolutions to target all DPI:s 2. I used the "copy export format setup to clipboard" 3. I marked all my other slices (except the top one) 4. I used the "Add export format setup from clipboard", so all my slices is exported in the same manner (keeping the slice name unique) 5. Using mouse wheel in the Slices area up and down 6. Unfolded a few of the slices and rolled the mouse wheel up and down fairly quickly 7. Designer freezes, boom. It recovered my file when I restarted though (phew) I also created a crash dump file of the Designer process was frozen and ran it through DebugDiag Crash Analyzer, the report is attached. I suppose I could send my file to the developers if that helps reproducing the freeze, but I rather not post it on the forum Video capture Sometimes the slices are not redrawn properly in the UI, not sure how to recreate this - but here's what it looks like: Video clip with the error . 13. Hi, I was wondering if there is any solution for my problem. I am using Affinity Designer for creating documents for my clients, all of them are based on few templates. I have at least two artboards in each template and I export them to two filetypes - jpg and pdf. Here is my workflow: I am opening last saved document of some kind - e.g. document-1005, then I am editing it with new data and then I am saving it as document-1006. Then I am exporting (ctrl alt shift s) each artboard as jpg and pdf - because filename of Affinity Designer file is kept - its all easy for me to keep filenames constant (I have in one plce files document-1005.pdf, document-1005.jpg, document-1005.afdesign). What would be perfect for me is to use slices to export. Right now if I choose slices - I would need to change slices name everytime when exporting them. I am looking for some simple solution like what I created in Photoshop. Simple java script - it can create subfolders (when I need) and/or save file as jpg/png/psd with prefix or suffix added to original filename. Is it possible in any way? Regards, triforcesolutions
  14. I found great functionality of Designer in exhibition design, when I can maintain a generic view of a large wall of exhibition, while setting different export scenarios for different parts of general design: Parts must be printed with background and cropmarks in cmyk Parts must be cnc'd or cut without background I always need to maintain a general view for reviews, a small-sized pdf I often need to have parts of general design to use as textures in 3d software. Sometimes in different resolutions. Slices help me achieve this from a single, smartly constructed file, and in theory it is far superior than Adobe's Illustrator. So far, I have two issues with this. It is frustrating to break this workflow in cases where I have to deal with hyphenation. I have to finish-up hyphenated texts of exhibition in another software, and also break the well-maintained general view. It is difficult to get layer-independent slices in precise locations. If you draw a slice manually, snapping weirdly does not work. Precise positions of slices are essential in my case.
  15. I can't seem to figure out how to delete slices that are created around individual objects?
  16. I want to export all layers! And I know there is the slice feature, but i don't want the slice box to be directly on the object i want the slice to be exactly the same size as my previously selected layout. I also know that I can change the slice, but not if I mark several slices.. So I have to pull each slice individually onto the edge .. Is there any better solution?
  17. Would it be possible to allow some of my export slices to ignore certain layers, but others to include them? I'm often working on multi-layered images for use in games, and every time I export i have to turn off specific layers beforehand. I appreciate the current option to set layers to not be exported, but I'd prefer some more power to limit certain layers to certain slices, so I can export the foreground, middle and foreground objects cleanly.
  18. Hi, I use very mucho the slices and always whey I creat a slices from a layer, the slices don't fit for 1 or 2 pixeles. I search in a lot of places for fix the problem, but I only found that this problems don't have a solution for know. Thanks
  19. I just came across a workflow stumbling block while working on letterheads with Publisher and delivering them as MS Word templates. There were multiple variations of the letterheads for different departments, which were created as different pages in Publisher in a single document based on common Master Pages My workflow was as following: Design everything in Publisher Create slices of header and footer for export to PDF Iterate on the design in Publisher until approved by client Place PDF graphics of header and footer in Word, recreate text that needs to be editable and text styles in Word, make color Palettes via PowerPoint (due to Microsoft logic) Last minute fixes: Make changes in Publisher, re-export the slices and replace the images in Word Deliver MS Word templates and color palette files To my knowledge, this is a pretty standard workflow for doing branding projects where MS Office templates are required. Since Publisher has no Export persona, I created my slices for my letter header and footer by opening the Publisher document inside Photo. Trouble is, Designer and Photo only support one page. When opening a document, they always just display Page 1. This can be circumvented by opening the file via the File menu in Publisher. In that case they will open the page that is currently active in Publisher. For me that meant that I had to go my target page in Publisher, use the menu to open that page in Photo, create my slices, save, close, re-open in Publisher, go to the next page, create my slices and so on. This is not only very cumbersome, but it also makes it really difficult to copy slices, settings or dimensions to keep them consistent across pages. Imagine that I find that I want my footer slice to be a bit larger after all because one version has some extra elements and I want them to be a consistent size – I'd have to close, re-open the document in Photo via Publisher for every single page and make my edits while remembering the dimensions to type in. The same applies to exporting the slices after a design change – when not using continuous export (haven't tested if that works from Publisher), this workflow also requires closing and re-opening the file for each page I want to re-export slices from. Imagine a change on a master page with slices on a 15 page document. That's a waste of time and unnecessarily frustrating. I guess the limit on page navigation was imposed onto Designer and Photo to prevent people from just downloading blank files with multiple pages and using those instead of buying Designer or Photo. My proposed solution would be to offer page navigation in the Export persona in both Designer and Photo. Then just always return to the default page 1 when going back to the main Photo or Vector persona if Publisher is not installed. Another possibility would be to take it further and globally enable page navigation in Photo and Designer if Publisher is installed, similar to the Vector and Photo personas in Publisher. The last option would be to add the Export persona to Publisher, but I'd say that's probably overkill.
  20. Hi, I have a very hard time understanding the slices and export. 1/ SLICES Should a slice not automatically be created from a layer.. ALWAYS ? Did I miss something? it seems to be it does at times and at other times it does not. 2/ LAYER DUPLICATE.. and SLICES When I duplicate a layer containing my design, rename it to something else than the original (say original is called Flyer.. and dupliate is renamed Web banner) it becomes a truly new layer thus shouldn't a new slice be automatically created at this juncture or am I totally off-base and shouldn't that slice inherit the name of the renamed layer also? 3/ UNITS If a file is set up as a print file, I think I can enter pixel unit in the Transform toolbox using px next to the number (though that box still shows mm).. and thus use pixel values for resizing layers that need to be in px for exports (my projects often include having to create both print and web elements). I'd swear at times entering pixel values in the Transform yields correct pixel exports and at times not at all.. Basically I'm trying to understand where I bug and where the software bugs.. as when different outcomes happen after a similar sequence of events.. I get totally confused not getting the expected result. PLEASE point me me to very clear Youtube or video tutorials (I need images to understand I do very badly with text tuts) .. H E L P At this point things I did farily easily if not very easily using Adobe products are still quite complex in affinity.. guess my brain is not yet matched to this way of thinking. I'm off Adobe but at times I miss it still.. I was hoping the switch would be slightly more intuitive. THX
  21. I think I'm missing something very obvious here but the Slice sector tool in Export Persona, will not let me select or adjust a slice size. (AD v1.6.1) Any ideas?
  22. Hi, I create UI for work and we often have reusable elements in our designs; when these are exported they have the same name but different X Y coordinates on the page. I'd like to start using Affinity for this but there is a slight issue. Currently when Affinity exports two Slices with the same name, it adds a number to the file name of the repeat slices. Is there a way to disable/override this? My goal is to have only one of the repeat slices exported but still have the coordinates for each in the Batch Builder export. Also it would be great to have some more advanced control on the Batch Builder presets in future hehe
  23. Hi folks, I'm new to this app and looking into slices to simplify a specific workflow... I can't tell if my failure to figure this out is my unfamiliarity with the app or perhaps it's not meant to do what I want. A description: Given: a single source image (may be portrait or landscape) Wanted: To create n different output assets of different sizes and orientations, with the ability to replace the image for a given size if manual cropping/resizing is insufficient to produce a viable composition. To complicate matters, the use case also has overlays (these images are backgrounds for use in an app that presents on different sized devices) which means that images with lots of negative space need to be massaged more depending on where the "important" parts of the image are. I've attached a version set (apparently I can't attach all the images, but what did attach shows the range -- the original is 3072x2048 in this case and there's a 2732x1048 that failed as well) that I've done manually in another app to give a visual of the resize/recomposition I'm describing... is there some way I could use slices to import the original once, manipulate the slices individually to create a result like the manual example, then take advantage of the single export to get the workflow improvement I'm looking for? If not, given the description, is there a suggested different approach that might be better than the lather-rinse-repeat of manipulating the frames individually? Thanks! -brad
  24. I've been messing around with export persona and slices, and I'm trying to figure this out: I'm creating a heightmap for a game and I'm using a series of snapped squares to keep scale. What I'm trying to do is draw an image in a lay over all of these squares, then select a square and use it to create a slice that will export the corresponding part of the top layer. Unfortunately I keep on ending up with appropriately-sized blank squares or the entire image exported, or both. I'm not quite sure how the selection works; if someone could explain this to me it would be much appreciated.
  25. Hello, it would be great, if the Export Persona could export a file (e.g. csv format) with the names and coordinates of the slices. Best, Chris
