  1. Morning, Am I missing something here, or can I not snap slices to the grid?! I have created a slice, turned snap to grid on, and now am trying to conform that slice to the grid, but it's no snappy. Pretty much all snap options are on, but I just can't snap it! Cheers Wayne
  2. Hello, I have a large document with lots of sliced graphics most of them are inside groups so it's easy to move them together as "blocks". I need to organize and update this large document all the time, but whenever I move some of the groups that contain graphics, the slices stay in place... It is too much of a time consuming to move the slices manually again to match to so many graphics, and whenever I decide to re-organized it again to do this again and again... Is there a way to move GRAHICS + SLICES together as one just like if the slices will stick to it's graphics? I'm using the latest version of Affinity Designer 2.2.0 Thanks ahead! 🙏
  3. Using Affinity Designer 2.1.1 on Windows. In the Export persona and using the Slice Tool, I've tried to snap a few slices to objects on the artboard, and they don't snap... but I honestly can't remember if it has always been like this, or if it's a new bug? I've tried looking up the documentation but it says nothing about this. Trying to determine if I simply forgot this was always been like this before submitting a bug report. Snapping to the artboard edges and other slices works fine though, sooo...?? Thanks!
  4. Hi! Is it possible to automatically adjust the size of the slice to the same size as the document? I have several layers and all of them I need to save as separate files with different file formats (some as PNG, some as JPEG, etc.). I need a little bit of support on this case from Affinity Photo community. ;) Thanks in advance for help! :)
  5. This has probably ever be reported by somebody before, but I couldn't find any reporting on this issue with the forum search, so just to be sure it's known and hopefully can get a fix: Slices created from fill layers having a mask vector layer with gausian blur applied to it have bounding boxes that are cutting off the blur. This results in unusable export files as we obviously want the effect to be there fully, not cut off. It looks like effects are ignored by calculating the bounding box to create a slice. [edit] The bounding box of the mask in the normal editor is already ignoring effects by calculating the bounding box. Which is fine in the editor and even wanted in most cases IMO. But the same calculation results in issues in wrong sizes/positions to create slices in the export persona (please see images below) The same issue happens in Photo. I'm sure I know a way to work around this for now, but that's far from ideal and especially in the project I'm currently working at a loooot of (redundant extra) work. This obviously needs to work out of the box, so hoping for a fix! Thanks in advance! 😀 layer and fx situation Masked with this construction by dropping here 🙂 bounding box of the fill layer in the editor mode: bounding box of the mask layer without effect in the editor mode: bounding box of the mask layer WITH effect in the editor mode: created slice is too small (you see the bbox is way smaller than the real boundingbox as seen in the normal editor). The slice seems to ignore the effects applied at calculation time or something else is wrong in its cropping method: output file after exporting using the export persona: blur is cut off
  6. I’m new to Affinity Designer. Last year I created a kitchen tile splash back using Procreate and Photoshop. This year I’m planning a larger bathroom tile mural. I think it would be more manageable file wise to do it in Affinity Designer with vectors. My main question is, can I start out with a grid which will be easy to print as separate pages at the end? Create a measured by inch/cm grid and then slice? Is it possible to do rectangles eg 8x10” or will I need to find square ceramic tiles for this? I created the separate elements in Procreate then assembled the large mural image in Photoshop last time. Then it was a big old pfaff to break it up again into the specific tile size. My version of Photoshop didn’t allow me to slice it up in the programme. I think I ended up using this online tool https://pinetools.com/split-image I could divide the image up at the end again but the main disadvantage is that I won’t know where the breaks between tiles will be. It will be levelling up if I can sketch the layout around the tiles to start with. I suspect you also lose image quality splitting images using a free online tool. Also I’m a bit confused about vector brushes. If I use vector brushes, will my image be scalable, so my initial file size could be say 1/10 of the wall? Or should I create a file to start with which is actually the size of the bathroom wall? It seems like some people are saying that the vector brushes aren’t truly vectors and go pixelated when enlarged.
  7. Hello, This post is related to the one linked below, but I wonder if it's different enough to warrant a new post. If I have an image that features multiple aligned squares (with spaces between), is there an efficient way to slice and export them? For example, if I want to export the flashcards (attached as an example) individually, I can create guides that divide them up, but then I can't slice the guides. I could manually slice each (snapping to guides), but with larger grids that is very time consuming. I could use the technique of creating multiple boxes and bmp-filling them (in the linked post), but it was a lot of work to get the image to line up accurately. I could also create multiple boxes, then post the image individually into each and slice them, but again that is very time-consuming. If there's no way to do this quickly in Affinity, fair enough (there are lots of competing feature requests), but am I missing something simple? I'm a teacher, so spend a lot of time manually cutting out flashcards for online work! stcasefs.jfif
  8. For me, the i'd welcome the Slice Tool being able to Snap to Grid. Better still would be for it be able to detect snapping constraints in similiar fashion to the node/pen tools.
  9. I have been trying to figure out the slice tool in the export persona in Designer. I had originally created a set of assets in a grid and wanted them all to be exported via slices. After doing this and closing Designer I had realized that the slices didn't match the grid, only the actual layers (silly me). So I opened up the file to redo the slices but I have not found any way to alter the slices, ie. delete or resize. It seems like there is very little that can be done in the export persona but create slices and export, but no way to go back or make changes. Am I missing something in this persona or is what I am trying to do completely unheard of (unlikely). I have seen videos of the Mac version at least altering the slice bounds but I can't even do that. And for more context as to why I wanted to change the slice is that I went from a single layer to a group with a new layer that is transparent, that way I can enforce the bounds. But now the slice is in the group and I want to remove it and create a new one with the group.
  10. Hi guys, title explains already everything, however, please have here a video (unlisted) explaining what I mean. What I forgot to mention in the video: please enable Metadata export to slices, thanks.
  11. Today I needed to slice/divide some paths and realized Designer has "NO" tools to cut a path anywhere and give you two separate paths! Am I missing something? I keep not wanting to use Illustrator but I keep finding simple tools missing. This is just like not having an offset path command, handy tools.
  12. I think I'm missing something very obvious here but the Slice sector tool in Export Persona, will not let me select or adjust a slice size. (AD v1.6.1) Any ideas?
  13. I'm always big on batch processing and an efficient export workflow. I've spent quite a bit of time trying to get the most out of AD 1.5 exporting - but i'm still mystified at what Batch Builder actually does. No help on it. No google returns outside of the feature list saying: Batch Builder for multi-slice imagesets (Xcode asset JSON) And it seems to be very oriented around touch icons - is there scope for more? Please affinity, let us in on the secret?
  14. Hey, I am sometimes baffled by some fundamental interaction flaws in Affinity. I think that having the export persona was a bad design decision. I have a problem I cannot figure out a solution to: I simply want to move a graphic and a slice together. Impossible. You can either move the whole graphic or the slice but you have no way to select a graphic and its slice together. Try to resize a document: All your slices will stay in their absolute position forcing you to reslice everything! Please fix as soon as possible and get rid of the export persona completely. Just do what Sketch does. So much easier.
  15. Hi, Photo on Windows 10 on my Dell 5570 laptop is freezing for me every time I use the slice tool whilst also setting specific image dimensions. I enter the dimensions, then the whole programme freezes, requiring me to force close it and restart it. Any ideas? Thanks, Jack
  16. Hello! This is a FYI request from an Android Developers view. I am an Android Developer and tried your program as a tool to export some PSD-file-mockups of a App-design. I really like the program so far with all its functionality and I do like the "export-persona". But one thing is really anoying. There is an option, when you export a slice, to choose what should be in the file-name. You can there choose the "scale-suffix" This puts an "@1x", "@2x", "@3x" in your filename to seperate the files in a really sufficiant way. This is a amazing on MAC where the "@X" suffix has a real use. BUT, when it comes to Android development this is a real pain. This is the error straight from Android studio: "Error: '@' is not a valid file-based resource name character: File-based resource names must contain only lowercase a-z, 0-9, or underscore" This means that I now have to go and rename all those files by hand, wich was something I wanted to avoid with exporting the files through Affinity Designer. There is an simple fix for this. Make a new suffix that is made for android without the "@" and it will be perfect. Thank you for your time! //Simon
  17. Hello! I'm attempting to remove lines and shapes underneath a complex shape but having trouble doing this. I've been attempting to use the "Divide" command to remove the overlapping segments and then delete those. Which is a bit time consuming and I run into problems because "Divide" will close incomplete line segments, which creates weird shapes. Images: 1-3 illustrate what I'm trying to do: Remove everything intersecting in the grey shape but keep the rest. 4th image is my actual artwork which gets complex so I need to do this efficiently. It also needs to be fully removed (not hidden) because it's on the way to a laser cutter. 5th image is what happens when I "Divide". As you can see the v line segment on the top left closes into a shape. And the bottom line looses a section. Thanks for your help!
  18. At the moment, at least as far as I understand, a slice is only output at its current resolution (and multiples for iOS devices 1x, 2x and forthcoming 3x) as per its size on the canvas. It would be great if there was a way to manually set the output file resolution per slice. So for example, if a slice is set up for a section say 100 x 100 pixels on the canvas, a custom output size, such as 360 x 360 pixels could be specified for the target file. This would provide great flexibility. Multiple slices for the same area would then allow many different output resolution images to be generated for the same graphic (eliminating the need for having the 1x, 2x etc options). The additional target output size settings would ideally be placed on the 'export options' panel and would contain a means of optionally fixing the aspect ratio and also be saved as part of the preset. Default presets could include 'iOS 1x Icon', 'iOS 2x Icon' etc. I hope this makes sense. Fantastic, user friendly app! Keep up the excellent work.
  19. Hi All, As the title says, I'm wondering if there is a way to retain the sizes for slice exports as their own preference? Currently it's a (32w, 32h) default selection, but I'm wondering if there is a way to automatically select 3 different export sizes.
  20. Hey! So I am going through over 500 product photos for our electronics company and I would like to automate creating slices. Basically for each product photo I am trying to export 7 standard slices with different aspect ratios and crops, so slices is definitely the tool for that. But it seems like a prime application for a macro or other preset thing where I can create all of these slices automatically with the export preset and aspect ratios that I want. I would still have to frame each photo and fine tune it, but having the slices all ready for me would be awesome. The macro tool seems to only work in the Photo persona. I timed myself a few times and doing the math, if I can automate this I will save me 20 hours of work! Best, Jared
  21. The export persona is a great time saver! However, it requires some love, as there are a few aspects that could be improved. 1. When moving multiple slices coordinates are disabled (greyed out). Moreover, it is impossible to change the x and / or y positions manually. It would be great if multiple slices could be moved similar to multiple objects in the "Move Tool" in the Photo Persona. 2. It would be great if the option "Transform Objects Separately" from the Photo Persona would be also available for multiple slices in the Export Persona. 3. Finally, I am really missing an option to transform object slices ("yellow slices") to manually created slices ("purple slices"). I often need slices around objects, but the slices should be slightly larger than the object itself (feature request 2) and the exported slices should also export all visible layers (feature request 3). Currently, I have to create all slices manually, which is not only lots of work but leaves also room for errors. Cheers, Chris
  22. AD version 1.7.3.481 Hi, I have to create slices from a weblayout to export jpgs. In this case i have picture frames with linked images in a Publisher document, which are exactly positioned/sized on integer pixel values. To export the images for web, i open the Publisher document in Designer and switch to export persona. My typical approach is to select the orginal object in the layers panel and create a new slice by pressing the "new slice (Slice erstellen)" button at the bottom of the layers panel. Example: the object is 480 x 480 px at position 0 / 1850 px. Normally when i create a slice from a selected object the slice directly takes the object/layer name and the EXACT dimensions and position of the original object. Even if i select multiple objects/layers and create all slices in a single shot. But in this case all created slices are some pixels bigger and shifted off. e.g. the created slice from this object is 482 x 482 px at position -1 / 1849 px I have some other big header images in this document at position 0 / 0 px with 1920 x 1080 px. These images produce slices with exact the original values as expected. So what's wrong? Is it because this is originaly a Publisher document, or is it about the picture frames? Unfortunately the slice tool does not snap to any grid or guides, so i have to manually correct all slices in the transform panel. Lot of workarounds and lost time - again... :-(
  23. Would be really useful to be able to duplicate slice or create a master slice that would be the reference for its duplicate ones being able to adjust one that would adjust them all. Also being able to set size of the slice manually Aso to have some king of predefine slice rules such as always snap multiple of...2 Also being able to select all layer and change par of their name like the first part if the name of all sliced layers. Regards.
  24. macOS Mojave 10.14.6 Affinity Designer 1.7.3 --- First, here's how these exported PNGs render in the wild: These photos are exported from the *same* artboard: In case the screenshot of the first export doesn't have you convinced, here's the artboard fill & stroke: (note the fill & stroke, top left) Yes, the slice export options are the exact same: (also notice how you can see in the slice preview that Color Horizontal is transparent but the avatar_color_why_no_transparent clearly has a white background) I feel like this should be stupid-simple. What am I missing? Also here's an example of these files out of preview/affinity designer so it's evident that one's transparent and one has a white background:
  25. Hello, I want to split a rectangular image into, say, nine equal parts and have each saved as a separate page (or image). (I will then print out all nine and stick them together as a single image of huge size. (My initial image will have a huge number of pixels making sure that each of the final images will have a resolution of at least 300 dpi.)) I have Photo and Publisher. I have looked at the slice tool but don't think it can do what I want. Is there a way to accomplish this in either Photo or Publisher? If not, does anyone know a stand-alone app that can do this? Thanks for any suggestions. Robin
