  1. I have problems with the size you get once you prepare a document with images. A ten-page document with images at 300dpi weighs over 180MB, yet the same document in InDesign weighs only 6MB. In both cases the images were linked, but AFPUB seems to include a copy inside the document as well (I'm not embedding). The big question, however, will AFPUB be useful for professional graphic designers to create magazines, catalogues, artbooks, etc., especially when using hi-res images inside (not lo-res web images)? If such is the case, here are a couple issues that need considering: 1. Linking images make the file too heavy. Consider the example I gave above, and then think of an 88 or more pages magazine/book, etc. 2. Not being able to import into a single document other documents prepared separately. Also, although I haven't figured it out yet, can you design a cover, a squarebound one, including the spine? Couldn't find any indication when creating a new document. Seems everythings is for what goes inside and not what covers it.
  2. In Photoshop, Ctrl-Alt-C brings up the Canvas Size dialog box. It works the same way in Photo. However, in PS, first there is a "Relative" check box that you can check (it remains checked) and second the program remembers from which point you want to change the Canvas size: I set it so that it will be changed from the center point, and it doesn't move. In Photo, it moves back to top left whenever you open the Canvas Size dialog box. Furthermore, in PS, there is a drop-down local menu to choose the color of the Canvas extension area: I set this to black and the software also remembers it. Therefore, when I call up this dialog box using Ctrl-Alt-C, I find all my settings again and only have to type in the size (thickness) of my black border, and hit Return. In Photo, first there is no "Relative" check box, there is no menu to select the color of the Canvas extension area, and then the program does not remember from which point I want to extend the size of the Canvas and moves back to its own default. I was wondering whether there is something I'm not doing right, or if it is also feasible in Photo but just not the same way... It is quite important for me as I usually do a thin black border around my photos... therefore, many thanks in advance for any tips!
  3. Hey everyone! When opening Document, Resource Manager, selecting all files and setting them to linked, my document will still be at 109,3MB file size. In fact, before linking the unlinked images, the file had 108MB. So linking even increases file size by a small amount. The Resource Manager will show them as linked and Publisher will report errors when renaming a file. It just doesn't decrease file size. And even when Publisher cannot fint a file, it is still being displayed, instead of an error frame, which I would expect. Is this a known issue? It seems it shouldn't be since there is a tutorial on the website for this. I am using High Sierra. Best wishes, Shu

Social Media Banner Ad Size Artboards

Hi guys! I was working on some social media ads for a client and created a simple template for all major social media ad sizes including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, Snapchat and Reddit. This is a simple file with art boards for all your ad designs. It could come in handy next time you need to create a simple promo banner or ad for a client. Cheers! Social Media Banner Ads.afdesign
  5. Even with the 1.5 updateI still cannot not crop to a specific size. In PS, if I set the crop for 8x10 and the crop mask stays 8x10 and saves as 8x10. Affinity seems to have made this very simple process very difficult, even with 10 years of PS experience, I can't seem to make sense of this dynamic crop tool that changes while you size. Seriously, is there a hidden tool to lock is at the preferred dimension. The tutorial seems to make it even more difficult. Again, I just want to set the crop tool at i.e., 8x10, and save it as 8x10 and the exported file comes out 8x10! No more!
  6. I have arrowheads - same size (250%), but solid version is significantly larger! It is correct? Inside type (Place arrow within the line), is draw correct (see previous picture). But Center type (Place arrow at the end of the line) is correct only for solid version. Standard version (unsolid :-) is Outside type. Wouldn't it be better to allow all three placement types (Inside line, Center end, Outside line)? Selecting all lines (Move Tool) with different types of arrowheads (Inside and Center) will cause everyone to change to Inside type. Unexpected, and very unpleasant.
  7. Hello I used publisher to do a very simple job, to add numbering in a pre-designed invoice pdf so I can print them. The imported pdf is saved from adobe illustrator with text as curves and it only have vectors in it. I import it as link and export it with "nothing to be rasterized" from publisher. The new file is 50 pages of basically the same page with page numbering, black vectors only (opened in designer and illustrator to make sure) but the file size is close to 10mb while a similar pdf saved from indesign is like 200-300kb (which make sense given the vector nature of the contents). What is going on here? Is it possible to reduce the file size? I know we are in an age that 10mb is not a big deal but I tend to keep my file in the cloud and my space there is limited.

    Resize pdf

Hey Everybody, I hope you can help me to solve this problem. I have created this pdf file, but when I open it in designer or photo it is not showing the complete size. omnitech_anzeige_sd_82x127mm-2.pdf This is how the file looks like when I open it. I also cannot change the width and height to mm or cm..... Please help me.
  9. I love that program! But the file size is huge. Even if the images are just linked, but not embedded, the file will not get smaller. Is there a solution for this problem?
  10. Hi, I'm new to use Affinity Photo and Affinity Design. Till now I used Photoshop. I'm missing some function in Affinity. Can someone tell me how to rotate the canvas in Affinity Photo and how to change the Brush size with the mouse like Photoshop.
  11. When I create a Title on my project (a book cover), I can click on "character" to change the size etc. But how can I do this to only one letter? I want to enlarge the First Letter of each word, but if I use a select tool to select only that letter, the character items don't work. I tried just selecting the letter, then clicking on "move" but only the selection box changes size, not the letter? Obviously I'm missing something
  12. Hi, I'm on macOS 10.14.2 and I'm using Publisher version 1.7.0.227. When exporting a PDF for print, I get several issues: PDF pages all have different sizes (I set up the page size in Spread Setup) I get the impression that for every page only the area of my content is being exported instead of the whole page. background is transparent (I unchecked this option in Document Setup) color space and profile are wrong (I set CMYK in Document Setup) See attached file for export settings.
  13. Is there a way ti change the font size of the forums when accessed through Safari on iOS? I cant find a way thanks for your help.
  14. Everytime I start Designer and create a new document the window is very small sized. How can I set a default size for new windows? Attached pics show actual and wanted size. ------ macmini, Yosemite, Monitor: Dell U2717D (2560x1440)
  15. When exporting an artboard that is placed on subpixel (i.e. its X or Y coordinates are not an integer), the suggested artboard size on export is 1px larger than the real dimensions. Steps to reproduce: Create new document. Check 'Create artboard'. Set page width and height to 100px Select artboard, duplicate it, place the new artboard on X:120.5px, Y:0 Rename the new artboard to 'Artboard2' File > Export. Select PNG. Select 'Artboard2'. The suggested export size will be 101px x 100px. The same behaviour can be seen when exporting with Export persona. If the artboard is placed on round pixel dimensions (X:101, Y:0), the export size is correct.
  16. Hey everyone, glad to be part of this community! I just started using affinity photo on my iPad Pro. I simply want to crop an image to a custom size ratio (eg. 1x1) and add a frame to it. Right now I crop the image first and then I change the canvas size and add a new layer to create the canvas but... I am not able to anchor the crop tool to the borders of the image When I crop the image, the uncropped part remains underneath and I cannot create the framing all around it Setting the canvas size is quite a mess I would really appreciate everyone's help :) Nick
  17. Not only does the font-size selector not work, but check out its behavior when you manually resize the text: The displayed numeric font size changes as you resize the text, starting with the value you last selected in the drop-down list... even though that selection was ignored. 18. This may of been mentioned before and I do apologise if so. This was done in photo but I presume this happens with the others as well, I've chosen the donut Tool shape for which I've opened up to get part of one. The issue is with the size measurement being that it take the full size (left) of the donut instead of part size (right) of diagram attached. I had to rasterise the right image to illustrate the issue I was having Has this been over looked or is it a setting with I have not found yet? Kind Regards
  19. When creating a new document, you can setup the page dimensions. After creating the document it is possible to set the dimensions of the spread, I think it would be useful to have the option to set the dimensions on spread size while creating a new document. I noticed this because my book print lab only gives spread dimensions.
  20. Hello! This tiny trouble is something I was facing in the previous version too. Most of the time, if I want to change the font size- I have to manually put the number in. If I use the drop-down menu, it just previews the new size but does not apply it. Is it an error, or am I doing something wrong?
  21. Hi guys; I'm think it's is a bug; not sure if it was my mistake, but I assume that it's a bug; When I export a Affinity file to PDF with a square size (image 1, you can see it's 600 x 600 px file), and try to re-open the file in Affinity, the file looses proportion and adds a strange blank border; it's the same file re-opened and you see it's not making a 800x800 px file, but a 801,3 x 800 file with this litle blank border (image 2). I'm not tagging bleeding or trim marks to add when I'm making the exportation (image 3) and i't appear to be kind random this blank border adding thing (image 4; it's a third party PDF viewer, so you can see how random is). Is it possible a bug? Thanks guys

  23. Whenever I start a new page, my canvas is about the size of a postage stamp. How do I make my working area bigger??
  24. I'd like to see ISO B paper sizes as a part of new document presets. I don't think currently included A8, A9, A10 are necessary. I use B sizes for some posters, book-like brochures and passport-size documents.
