  1. Hi there, I wanted to do some editing of an svg file of a floorplan. However, when I import the svg file into my Affinity Designer on my Ipad the file is all messed up - with elements moved around. I've uploaded a screenshot of how the svg file looks in Affinity and how the file should look (I had it also as a png file). I've double checked my source file and it's fine and it opens fine in Adobe Illustrator. I don't have Affinity Designer for my mac so I couldn't test that. I tried it with a couple of different floorplans and the same thing happens. Is there something I can do to easily fix this type of file?
  2. Hi, I want to give a workshop on vector graphics for lasercutters in our FabLab. This normally is about inkscape and Illustrator, so I tried Designer. File format for lasercutters is svg. I experienced some problems, what can I do better? 1. in SVG export, the layers are lost. (I know about the svg-layer problematic, but your import treats svg files with layers correctly, e.g. groupmode="layer") 2. I designed in mm, the svg export comes in arbitrary units. I did not find any settings where the scale stays correct. 3. Color is lost if opacity is set to 0
  3. When exporting a vector image to SVG, Designer appears to add hundreds of points to a path that aren't there when editing, causing the exported file to balloon many times the size as one exported from illustrator. For example, the Twitter logo contains 20 points on the path in Designer, but after exporting as a SVG it balloons to 1,554 points! Is there anyway to tell Designer to not add points, and to respect the original layout? This is holding me back from dumping Adobe Illustrator completely, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mike
  4. I use Affinity Photo Mac version. I am a Adobe CC user before. Last month I need to batch convert about 2000 svg icons to PNG with 20 different categories. I tried Illustrator action, failed. I tried Photoshop Image Processing, succeed, but I got blurry PNG files. Then I tried Inkspace, unfortunately, I got the same result wz Photoshop. Then I Googled Affinity Photo and installed a trial version. With the Batch Job feature I finished convert all svg files at last. But it was not easy, I cannot add folders with sub-folders, I had to add 20 times for each folder. Luckily,I got high quality PNG files for svg files. Then I decided to purchase a full version. But soon after I found a problem: This app always miss some files when do Batch Job. It means I have to pick the svg files not converted manually after each converting. Have anyone meet the same problem? How to resolve this? Thanks. My English is poor, hope you will understand.
  5. Hi, Is Affinity Designer importing font type and size information when SVG files are opened? I have a D3.js generated SVG file, the font in the exported SVG is 10pt Helvetica, but Designer is showing 14pt Arial when I open it. Note that the SVG file is being exported by using NYTimes Crowbar 2.
  6. I understand that saving export presets is on the feature request list already -- +1. I'm trying to manually produce the same export results. Here're screenshots from both MacOS (latest) and iPad (latest), and the iOS exported image geometry differs from same export on MacOS. How can I replicate my export svg settings from MacOS to iOS so I can export from either with consistent results? Regards, d00d
  7. I'm using Affinity Designer for Windows and exporting SVGs with gradients for use with Unity. Unfortunately, Unity's SVG importer seems to have issues with the gradients. Here is what the Unity developer said: For reference, here is the exported circle w/ gradient: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="no"?><!DOCTYPE svg PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD SVG 1.1//EN" "http://www.w3.org/Graphics/SVG/1.1/DTD/svg11.dtd"><svg width="54px" height="54px" version="1.1" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xml:space="preserve" xmlns:serif="http://www.serif.com/" style="fill-rule:evenodd;clip-rule:evenodd;stroke-linejoin:round;stroke-miterlimit:1.41421;"><path id="GradientHill" d="M0.012,26.717c0,-14.743 11.97,-26.713 26.714,-26.713c14.743,0 26.713,11.97 26.713,26.713c0,14.743 -11.97,26.713 -26.713,26.713c-14.744,0 -26.714,-11.97 -26.714,-26.713Z" style="fill:url(#_Linear1);"/><defs><linearGradient id="_Linear1" x1="0" y1="0" x2="1" y2="0" gradientUnits="userSpaceOnUse" gradientTransform="matrix(3.2714e-15,-53.4261,53.4261,3.2714e-15,26.7255,53.43)"><stop offset="0" style="stop-color:#9d9d9d;stop-opacity:1"/><stop offset="0.47" style="stop-color:#e9e9e9;stop-opacity:1"/><stop offset="1" style="stop-color:#fff;stop-opacity:1"/></linearGradient></defs></svg> Does anyone know if what he says is possible? An AD export option to force gradients to be defined earlier in the file? Thanks!
  8. With my free SVG Calendar Tool (https://svg-tools.mensch-mesch.com/calendar/) you can create different types of SVG Calendar Templates (Scalable Vector Graphic) for all Affinity products. This tool is not perfect but it will possibly safe a lot of time. Hope you like this simple tool Keep on drawin' Norbert

Unnecessary clipPath added to SVG export

I need to export icons in an svg dialect which is compatible with Qt SVG plugin which means I don't want any clipPath in the generated svg format. Most of the time the SVG export works perfectly and my SVG icons are Qt compatible, but I came across one icon for which the export would always add the dreaded clipPath. I tried redoing the icon from scratch with the same result. Only one thing would solve the problem: relocating the icon elsewhere. It seems the export problem is related to the precise icon location. I have attached the file with the export issue as well as the good and bad export which can be generated from it (the same icon at two different locations). 10. Hi, For a project I need to add a <pattern> fill to svg elements. It's no problem generating them by code withJavascript, but it would be a lot faster if there is a way to create these patterns from the Designer-editor. Is there a way to create vector-patterns in Designer that export to a <pattern> element on svg export? Thanks!
  11. Is it possible to add compatibility with SVGO https://jakearchibald.github.io/svgomg/ It is the most popular SVG optimizer for the web. Exported SVG files would be a way lighter. And it would be good to have a checkbox for exporting inline styles as classes it is useful for colorizing SVG using JS or CSS.
  12. I want to import/place the following SVG file (hlines.svg). It looks correct in Illustrator. I can also open the file in Chrome and it looks correct. Here is how it looks when imported/placed in Designer: It is faint, but only the square in the upper left corner appears and it is missing the two horizontal black bars. How do I fix this? If I open the file it looks similar but I get a long list of layers. It seems that all of the boxes are being stacked on top of each other. I can select a layer and then move the SVG object to a different location. In this example, I moved each of the boxes from the upper left corner, where they were stacked on top of each other. I don't care if the objects are on separate layers or flattened on the same layer. I am not doing any editing except for scaling the entire image to 30 in x 30 in. I just need it to look like the image at the top, hLines.svg
  13. I'm having issues exporting a particular file to SVG and am hoping someone can help me determine what I'm doing wrong. I have two primary issues with my export of this particular file (attached): 1. On export, the black color for all text in the image, specified as #000000 in the AD file, is changed to #030405. I can correct this manually in the code of the SVG, but I'd prefer to not have to. The red color (#ed1c24) of the Flag logo is not being modified during the export. 2. For the elements at the top of the image (flag logo, DiveTag and TM), fill colors are being supplied in the SVG code: style="fill:#030405;fill-rule:nonzero;" For the elements at the bottom of the image, though, (Reward Text, URL), fill colors are NOT being supplied in the SVG code: style="fill-rule:nonzero;" While the SVG renders correctly in a web browser without the fill colors being specified, it does not render properly in the PDF generator control we are using (https://github.com/dompdf/dompdf). It just fails to render the paths without color specified in their styles. Again, I can correct this manually in the code, but I am wondering if there is a way to force AD to specify fill colors for all exported SVG paths? Also, why is it specifying fill colors for some of the paths in my file, but not others? Thanks for any help you can provide! Unusually large SVG export

Hello! I have two very similar files with little figurine people in them. Neither one of them has a lot of complicated curves, they both have a few radial gradients, etc. Alice exports to a 4.5KB SVG file, but Bob exports to a 360KB SVG file, and I cannot figure out why. The Bob SVG file just has a zillion points in it, for no particular reason. If anybody can help me figure out why the Bob file is exporting to something so huge, it would be a great relief. Thanks so much! alice.afdesign bob.afdesign alice.svg bob.svg
  15. I'm evaluating several editors for compatibility with my SVG patterns. The short story of my use case assumes some technical knowledge of the SVG format. I offer a growing collection with hundredths of patterns constrained by a grid and the rules of 2-in 2-out directed graphs. An example is attached. A pattern is defined with one <group> of <path> elements (imported as curves) and a set of <use> elements that repeat this <group> to build the pattern. These <use> elements are imported as copies of the group. For my use case all these groups should be linked as symbols, but they are not imported that way. I also tried without the style attribute (with fill-opacity) on the <use> elements and without the group around the <use> elements, but that did not help. This way users of my patterns should reconstruct the pattern from one group. With all alignment issues that requires quite a learning curve. Unless I'm overlooking a method to link identical groups as symbols after import, I would like more advanced support for SVG's <use> elements at import. Perhaps as an option for backward compatibility. Same advanced support at export would be a bonus. The long story of my use case is documented at https://github.com/d-bl/GroundForge/blob/master/docs/help/Reshape-Patterns.md 2in-2out-graph.svg
  16. Windows 10 - Publisher 1.7.0.133 I have a small Publisher document where I have inserted a simple SVG (Publisher thinks it is another document, don't know if this is relevant). When I try to move the SVG, the App takes a second or more to show the movement and sometimes everything on the canvas windows disappears temporarily. Dragging other items in the document seems to be unaffected. The document contains people's personal information so is there somewhere I can upload it in private so you can look at it?

    SVG Export Scale Issue

I'm creating simple Bezier line drawings in Designer and exporting them as SVG files. When I import them into Carbide Create, a CAM app for running a CNC machine, the scaling is too small, generally by a factor of about 5.6. I can't just scale up for two reasons. The lines get choppy and the scale factor is not always exactly the same. I've tried a number of parameter changes to no avail. I have tried this process with iDraw and Inkscape, both export with proper scaling. When I import a Designer created SVG into either Inkscape or iDraw, I also must rescale the image although not necessarily with the same factor as Carbide Create. So, I suspect this is more an issue of how Designer is handling the SVGs.
  18. Hi there, I'm having some SVG issues. I'm using a mid 2014 MacBook Pro (2.2 GHz Intel Core i7). Every time I export an SVG it shows up as a blank white box. Below, you can see the logo I'm trying to export (it's the white logotype with a green shape). When I export as an SVG all I can see in my Mac finder window is a blank square box (see below). When I open the SVG in Illustrator, the logo shows up, but it's not cropped correctly (there's a bunch of white space above and below the logo which I don't have in Affinity). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks !
  19. Importing an SVG file into Designer started to result in a single flat pixel layer while a couple of days ago it opened normally as a vector layered image. Even a vector image exported from Designer into an SVG file then opens as one single flat pixel layer. I may have altered the Preferences, but I do not see any reason for which any of the options would affect the import process in such a way. It seems to me that it really started to behave in a weird way. Thanks in advance for help.
  20. Hi, I'm placing an SVG file in Designer and try to convert to curves, but the menu item is disabled. This works perfectly with the same file in PagePlus X9. what am I doing wrong? Greetings, Sigurd
  21. I have recently switched over to Affinity Designer full time from adobe products after dabbling for a couple years. I'm rebuilding a document that I was originally done in Adobe illustrator. I'm exporting it as an svg file to be used with a program call Sure Cuts A Lot (SCAL) which I use to cut designs on a digital cutter. I'm having several problems opening the file in SCAL. First off, the file is more than 2x the size it was designed to be. Secondly, all elements are not visible when opened in SCAL. Thirdly, there is a dot that is appearing on the top right corner of the design which seems to be measured with the size but it isn't part of the design and can't seem to be removed. Precision for the size of the elements I'm cutting is paramount as are the missing elements. I print the document first after designating some lines as print lines and others as cut lines. After the document is printing I then cut the design out. This is a rather large problem that I need to fix, ASAP!! See photos below: The first shows the difference in scale with how it should look vs what appears when imported. Also, see the black dot to the upper left that appears? The second picture shows the preview of the file with text on it but, as you can see when its placed in SCAL the image has no text. The last picture shows the document in affinity designer with all elements as it should be. I hope i'm being clear, and I hope there is a fix that I am just missing when I'm trying to export.
  22. Hi guys, I created a logo with Affinity Designer and then decided to improve it by adding some outer shadow effects to the layers and groups that are part of the logo. I exported the logo as svg file but when I uploaded it to my site the shadows were not displayed and on top of that part of it got blurred. I opened the svg file with Affinity Designer to check whether it was a problem related to my browser or not but it happened the same. Then I checked that by deselecting the outer shadow effects the problem disappeared. Do you guys know anything about it? Probably I am doing something wrong. I am relatively new on graphic design. Find attached some files for more information. Many thanks in advanced! logo-design.afdesign
  23. Here’s a very quick tutorial that requires no images and may help others who use Affinity Designer with ZBrush to import vector/ svg shapes for extrusion. To bring in an SVG file to ZBrush’s Text 3D & Vector Shapes Plugin successfully I.e with no stretching of proportions and other potential issues….. 1, Make sure your document's porportions within Affinity Designer is square 2, If you didn’t create your vector shape in a square document - copy it and past it in to a newly created square document. NB: How the pasted shape is aligned is of no importance to ZBrush, nor is it’s size within the square document. 3, Select your shape in the document > now export your SVG >File > Export , using the preset SVG (for export) , Area = Whole Document. 4, Import in to ZBrush> ZPlugin> Text 3D & Vector Shapes>New SVG et voila. All should be harmony and joy. (At the time of writing using Affinity Designer 1.6 & ZBrush 4R8)
  24. Hi, new guy here. o/ I recently purchased and started using both Photo and Designer after having used Photoshop and Illustrator for many many years, not a heavy user but I know my way around it. Will take a while before I can switch completely, but I like the direction of both Affinity tools. Keep up the good work! First thing I tried with Designer is port some of the assets from AI and use Export Persona for exporting both PNG and SVG. While PNG works fine, SVG not so much. I've searched the forum, but wasn't able to find a concrete answer. Hence this topic. 1. Ability to retain width and height of the artboard as well as the viewbox. Checking off `Set viewbox` option in the export setting does set the height and width attributes, but it also removes the viewbox property, which is not ideal. For example AI handles this through `Responsive` setting in SVG export options; checking it removes width and height, otherwise both are always present. 2. Output SVG contains unwanted (unnecessary perhaps?) clipping elements and references and an empty artboard rect. In the below example only `<path />` is wanted and none of the other stuff. I imagine this is necessary if the slice is smaller than the artboard. But this is exactly what `viewbox` is for — to clip unwanted areas of an SVG. 3. Presentational attributes: `fill="#ebebeb"` instead of `style="fill:#ebebeb;"`. I do believe this was mentioned in one of the topics I found, but there was no clear answer to the issue. Perhaps something similar to AI SVG options where you can select how you want those properties to be exported. 4. Long-shot, but perhaps something similar to SVGO for minification. <svg width="100%" height="100%" viewBox="0 0 200 200" version="1.1" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xml:space="preserve" style="fill-rule:evenodd;clip-rule:evenodd;stroke-linejoin:round;stroke-miterlimit:1.41421;"> <rect id="Artboard1" x="0" y="0" width="200" height="200" style="fill:none;" /> <clipPath id="_clip1"> <rect id="Artboard11" x="0" y="0" width="200" height="200" /> </clipPath> <g clip-path="url(#_clip1)"> <path d="..." style="fill:#ebebeb;" /> </g> </svg>
  25. I cannot find the option for choosing the decimal precision. In Inkscape, you could set the amount of significant digits to 5, for intance, this resulted in the shapes' coordinates looking like this: 5 significant digits: 1.2345 12.345 123.45 1234.5 3 significant digits: 1.23 12.3 123 My whole web application is based around SVG (dragging around on a big SVG map,) so it will probably see a size reduction of at least 25% solely from dropping the three decimals in all coordinate numbers I know you can just do a regex find in an editor and search for \.\d\d\d and just delete all occurrences, but that gets tedious to do manually every time I want to export svg
