  1. Is there any way to enable canvas rotation with hand gestures on the touch screen? For instance, in Photoshop, you can place two fingers on the screen and rotate them, and the canvas will rotate in that direction. I can't seem to find any setting to enable it and its very frustrating not being able to shift my canvas around freely when I'm drawing. I end up just turning my whole tablet around, which is very inconvenient.
  2. When rotating the canvas (View - Rotate Left/Right) the artwork previews/appears pixelated and distorted on the artboard - almost like the strokes and objects get fuzzy outlines. I'm not sure if it's a bug, but its been present since the day I started using Designer and Photo - even vector shapes get jagged edge previews when the canvas is rotated. I've attached a preview to show what I mean (you may need to zoom in to have a better look), but I'm sure anyone who has used the canvas rotation feature is aware of this. Is there a way to fix this? Any help would be appreciated.
  3. So you've just rotated your image and now have four nice transparent triangles in the corners. So what do you do? Here's a way of handling it: Select/Alpha Range/Select Fully Transparent Select/Grow/Shrink... (Radius 1px) Edit/Inpaint This should select the corners and give AP the opportunity to apply its Inpainting algorithm. At best it's a perfect fix. At worst, it's a start and you can clone bits that are not inpainted so well. You do need to do the Grow, by the way, as without it you can get missed pixels and an inpaint that is not fully opaque (I think these are bugs and have reported them - until the fix, you need the Grow).
  4. When using Affinity Photo (or Designer) for illustration or digital painting, there are two features that I use super often - the brush moodier shortcut (ctrl+alt+drag left/right) and canvas rotation. The issue is that the direction of the shortcut changes to the rotation angle of the canvas, meaning I keep accidentally changing the hardness of the brush instead of thew size while working. It would be great to have this shortcut act independently and irrespective of the angle of the canvas, so that dragging left or right still affects the size of the brush, regardless of how much my canvas is rotated. As an example, if I've rotated my canvas by 90 degrees, dragging left/right changes the hardness instead of the size as it usually would when the canvas isn't rotated. When working fast, it's incredibly difficult to keep track of how much the canvas is rotated to be able to use the shortcut properly. *PS. A dedicated rotation tool for freely rotating the canvas would be an amazing addition to Affinity! 😉
  5. It would be nice if we can have artboards in Photo, and please add a rotation tool or a menu to rotate the view/canvas/artboard freely, not just per 15 degrees or 90 degrees
  6. So I've recently encountered a problem where I'm unable to rotate brushes a full 360 degrees This is making it impossible to rotate my brushes fully around since they rotate only 180 degrees Is this a bug or am i missing something ?
  7. Is it possible to move a object toward rotated angle with Transform panel? (Without reverting back rotation once)
  8. Would be nice if I could move a object toward rotated angle by numeric input on Transform panel. E.g. activating the option when Alignment Handle is enabled.
  9. I would like you to check see if rotation reset by double clicking the rotation handle with a touch pen works. Someone reporting it's not working. According to him, the PC is: Sony Vaio Z Canvas / Windows 8 and the pen is bundled one.
  10. I have Affinity Designer 1.8.3 (latest stable), and I experienced this bug since 1.8 When Artboard is selected and I want to rotate it with "Move tool", it doesn't show the "rotation marker", by which I can rotate it. It appears only when I start moving Artboard with Move tool. Little bug but annoying sometimes, especially when you have lots of content inside artboard! My specs (ask me if you need more): Mac OS Catalina 10.15.4 (latest) MacBook Air 2017 Affinity Designer 1.8.3 (bug comes from 1.8v) Screen_Recording_2020-04-20_at_15_03_20.mov
  11. Hello, how can I forget / reset the rotation of an object? Once the object is rotated it remembers it's original 0° rotation, which is mostly useful. E.g. if i rotate a shape in Publisher > convert to Picture Frame > Place an Image … the placed image is also rotated. Is there any way to rotate an object and afterwards reset it's rotation to 0°. Thank you in advance!
  12. Hi, I know how to resize brushes and change hardness/opacity using keyboard shortcuts but is there a way to alter the rotation of the brush by either holding down a modifier or step by step using keys? The clone tool is crying out for this ability - I can't believe its not there… Please tell me it is Regards, M
  13. I have been using this program for about 2 years both professionally and as a hobby. I am fully aware that this has been brought up on the forum before but this needs to be added. When we rotate an image we should be allowed to set it automatically crop the transparent parts of the image. This is a very large annoyance because the first thing most people do is crop. Because isolating your subject is important. I realized this when I used light room briefly and went wow I forgot how nice it was not to have to fiddle with cropping my self. If my phone can do it you guys can do it
  14. Hi, I'm not sure how this happened, whether it was a keyboard shortcut I inadvertently hit in Photo, or something else. The brushes I use the most no longer rotate as I draw along (for example) a silhouette; they just stay in one position. The brush tip has also become a ring instead of the shape of the brush, which I don't like at all. I have tried to figure it out on my own, but so far I haven't been successful in fixing either of these problems. I'm hoping someone knows how to fix this as I can no longer do my work. As a last resort, I'll be uninstalling and reinstalling, but I'm hoping to avoid that if I can. Thanks.
  15. I want to rotate a photo in Affinity Photo or in Affinity Deisgner but I seemingly can't rotate a mathematical amount. I can use the Straighten tool, but that is not what I what, I want to be able to say, "hey, this image can rotate clockwise by 5degrees" . I can see the rotate links for 90degree rotations but that's obviously not the same. The straighten tool is very imprecise as it relies on eye rather than any mathematical int or float value (such as 5.75 degrees) Have I missed something obvious? :-/ Cheers Martin
  16. It's easier to operate on small values, also there will be no need to do math (yay) So let say I want to rotate object clockwise by 67 degrees. That's easy - just enter 67. But when rotating counterclockwise things starts to look more complicated. I must calculate 360-67 to know it's 297... damn 293. See? What about just entering -67, and moving on? (maybe I mixed directions, but general idea still holds up)
  17. Can I request a rotation option for the fill windows gradient tab. at the moment you can only apply a right to left or visa-versa gradient from there, to rotate the gradient you then have to go to the fill tool, not intuitive at all.
  18. I have an urgent need to create a ring, where along the ring there are 'tick marks' like degrees on a compass, however, due to the nature of the project, I need to be very specific about where these 'ticks' lie around the circle, such that some need to be at a decimal precision of about 8 places. As far as I can tell, Designer only supports rotation precision to 1 decimal place. Is there an option or away to increase this to at the very least 4?
  19. I'm making a clock face. I set the guides to the dead centre, and I draw a 'tick' mark centrally using the guides. It's placed evenly over the vertical guide at 12 o'clock or 0/360 degrees around the clock face, then set the rotation anchor to the dead centre of the page using the guides. I duplicate that layer, and translate it using keyboard entry to exactly 5 or 10 degrees (depending on the tick mark I need). I press CMD+J to duplicate layer and transformation and populate the outside of the clock face. NOTICE: The rotation text field only allows single decimal places; this is functionally unusable, because in many cases we need multiple decimal place precision, and in fact if you manually rotate a layer you see displayed 2 decimal places, yet you can't manually set that in the text field. At least 4 is required, preferably 8 decimal places. Continuing with the bug description: I do the same for the 5 degree marks until the clock face is populated with marks at 5 degree and 10 degree points all around. To verify the correctness of these 'tick marks' I draw a long (extending past outer edge of clock face) 2 pixel wide line from the centre and rotate it so an random 'degree' that is a multiple of 5. e.g. 135. Then I see how it lays along the computed 'tick' marks. BUG: NOTICE that the tick mark at 135 isn't placed correctly, in fact none are except 0 degrees, 90, 180 and 270. All others are off by small amounts from those cardinal points up to the greatest amount of imperfection at the points directly between the cardinal points. If you MANUALLY drag the pink line you'll see that you still can't set it perfectly (due to poor 2 decimal place precision) but the black 135 tick mark is somewhere between 134 and 135, This level of precision isn't enough for my work. Suggestion: Please fix immediately the rounding / precision bug when doing rotations, and increase the decimal place precision on dragging AND by text entry to at least 4 decimal places, but preferably up to 8 decimal places. Current implementation is too inaccurate to use. Designer_Errors in rotating paths (lack of precision).afdesign
  20. Suggestion for a very small, but very useful feature/shortcut option for 1.7. I, as well as a vast majority of illustrators, designers and photo editors I know and work with, constantly rotate the canvas while working. This is not a 90 degree rotation, but rather just a standard rotation while working (exactly like the View - Rotate Left/Right/Reset options). Assigning this to custom shortcut keys helps speed things up (I currently have Rotate Left and Right assigned to Q and W in Designer), but it's still slow in comparison to Photoshop's dedicated rotation tool. With Affinity I'm left pressing my custom defined rotation shortcuts multiple times to get the perfect angle for the work I'm doing. With that in mind, I don't think it's necessary to add a dedicated rotation tool like Adobe PS has, but rather just a key combination shortcut. When you hold Ctrl+Alt and click and drag in Affinity this changes your brush size and hardness, which is incredibly quick, efficient, and useful. Could there not be a similar option (say Alt+Cmd+click and drag, or Ctrl+Cmd+click and drag) to rotate the canvas working angle? Either that, or a pop-up menu (similar to Sketchbook Pro) where when you move the canvas using the move tool (Spacebar) you also have the option to rotate the canvas. I've also seen this used in software like Krita, where holding modifier keys + dragging allows you to rotate the canvas. It's a non invasive way of still giving the option to those who use it, but keeping it out of the way for those who don't. You could possible also include the option to enable/disable the pop-up menu in the Preferences for those who don't like to use it or find it distracting. I think this would be an incredibly invaluable feature, particularly for artists/illustrators who rotate the canvas to draw using a tablet, but also useful for designers and photo editing.
  21. Hi all I quite happy with how I go about setting the pivot point on a shape in Affinity Designer. However, when I export the design to SVG, I want the pivot points to be saved as part of the shape as well. My aim is to rotate items using Javascript in the browser and I need that point, to pivot around (imagine a rectangle for a clock hand or something similar). Is this something I can do in Affinity Designer as part of exporting the shapes? Thanks
  22. Please see attached file. The rotation snap (drag while holding shift) is erroneous. I created a right-angled triangle (red in the attached file) with the catheter lenghts 1 and 2 respectively. This gives offcourse 30 degree [sin (1/2)] angle in the top of the triangle. But, if I rotate some thing (blue rectangle in the attached file) while holding down shift key (i.e. two 15 degree snaps) the angle is about 33.5 degrees and not 30 degrees. This is a major bug that needs to be resolved quickly. I have the latest designer version, running windows 10. This bug is propably also present in the photo (and upcoming Publisher) versions? /Mattias Affinity-bug.afdesign
  23. Hi all, I noticed that the brush rotation is limited to 50% in the slider, but you can write up to 100% in the input field, I think the slider should allowed to drag it until 100% as well. Is this intended? Cheers, Juan
  24. Hi - I am new to Affinity photo. I tried rotating an image of a window in crop mode. As you can see from the screen capture - it makes the bars all choppy. The original is a good sized file and does not look choppy. When I export - it looks OK. Is there any way to fix this? It makes it hard to edit a photo like this. I'm running on Windows 10. I don't have this issue with other applications. Thanks
  25. I don't even know the right way to talk about this, so it's likely this is possible and I just can't find it. When I open a doc in AfPub, in the lower right corner there's a minitab labeled "Transform" -- this is distinct from the Layer -> Transform menu item; here I can just set the item's control point, X and Y Location (x and y), Width, Height, Rotation, and Skew for the selected item(s). Is there a keyboard shortcut (or way to make one) to alter these or put the focus in one of these boxes? Related, and again I don't know what to call it, but if the current selection is, say, a polygon, there's a bar of configuration options running just above the document. It has, e.g., the name of the shape, the fill, stroke, number of sides, etc. What is that called, and how do I get focus there without using the mouse? Thanks!
