  1. Hi all, I need some advice. I've been working on a website redesign for a client, they recently launched the site but I noticed the website logo wasn't as clean and sharp as the same logo used the same size on a video thumbnail on the same page. I have tried every way I can think of exporting this logo so it looks as good but can't get it to be the same. The spec has to be a transparent png as it sits on an image background. roughly 202 px wide, can be a few pixels more if needed. The artwork is vector based and being output from Affinity Publisher. I've attached a screenshot of the page in question. The logo that is slightly blurry is top left (T Telum Media). The good version is bottom right. Thoughts?
  2. Hi there, I've noticed that when creating a vector mask, it's very important to ensure that the mask shape does not have a stroke otherwise when exported to pdf it will be rasterised. See below screen record and source file: Rasterise with stroke mask.mp4 Source file: Rasterising example.afdesign I can't see this being a useful or intended feature hence why I'm reporting it as a bug. Thanks very much! Max
  3. Affinity Photo v1.10.1, Mac App Store macOS Big Sur, v11.6 Mac mini (M1, 2020) I could be misunderstanding the feature, but I don't think so. I think this is a bug. I start with a single, simple pixel layer. The original file I was modifying is commercial, so can't be uploaded here. I have reconstructed the problem for posting – the attached file "1a reconstruction.afphoto" shows the problem with a simplified version. I made simple selections and created new masked Fill layers. These masked Fill layers are layered above and below the original pixel layer. In this simple example, there are no grouped layers, layer effects, or anything else. Screenshot (a) shows the main starting image. A single layer, it has three cutouts and two coloured shapes. Screenshot (b) shows the pink and red overlay layers and the two blue underlays (if that be the appropriate word?). See screenshot (c) for the corresponding layers. All pretty straightforward so far. I then want to export the file as a PSD, using the Rasterise All Layers option so that the resulting PSD has only pixel versions of the previous masked Fill layers. (This is so that the resulting PSD file can be easily imported into another app – Reallusion's Cartoon Animator). The export completes, but not as expected. The previous Fill layers are indeed now pixel layers, but they're been merged with the other lower layers. Screenshot (c) shows the layers from the original image. Screenshot (d) shows the Fill layers have been rasterised but, for example, the red and pink overlays have been merged to produce new version of the main layer. You should be able to see this for yourself with the attached "1a reconstruction.afphoto" example. Export > PSD > More > Rasterise All Layers. None of the other options see m to affect the result. Screenshot (e) shows the expected result for each pixel layer - no merging. I can get what I want/expect if I manually rasterise each layer before exporting the PSD. In this simple example, that's not a big deal, but some of these PSD assets I've purchased come with a substantial number of layers and that approach would be both inconvenient and impractical for them. I could create layer-based slices and use the Export Persona to generate individual PNG files that I could import into Reallusion's Cartoon Animator and this should work. But, again, the significant number of layers in some of these purchases make this a significant issue as each sliced file would have to be individually imported 1a reconstruction.afphoto
  4. I recently did a personal project (rasterization bug.afdesign) and noticed something weird when exporting to pdf. I got a pixel layer on top of a fill layer together with some text. The pixel layer looks fine when editing within designer: When I export the pdf, there is a notice that designer wil rasterize some areas, which is the pixel layer on top of the fill layer. When opening the resulting pdf however, There seems to be some weird bands on the pixel layer: Tried some different stuff, like converting the color profiles, testing different pdf configurations like not allowing jpeg compression etc. The only preset that got me the same result as the designer view is to flatten the whole pdf, which ofcourse also flattened my text. I worked around the issue in the end by rasterizing the pixel layer together with the fill layer and export it as a normal "for print" pdf, but it made me wonder if this is some bug or expected behavior, as it felt a bit tedious to flatten my layer stack to make it rasterize the right way. Can anyone shed some light on this? Thx in advance.
  5. Is it possible to truly disable dithering for gradients? I only found the option in the performance settings, which is however limited to the preview rather than the final result. Meaning as soon as the gradient/s in question are rasterised the dithering is back on, which leads to undesirable results. (Preview) (Rasterized/Exported)
  6. Hi friends. I'm curious to know why this warning is showing when exporting pdf files from Affinity Publisher? This is so disappointing. I don't want anything to be rasterised Is there any way to turn this option off? TIA!
  7. im having constant problems with affinity rasterizing the documents on export or "some areas will be approximated". And with errors. Design, just curves. vejir_template.afdesign - afdesign file vejire-final.pdf - with "raster unsupported" - almost everything is rasterized vejire-final-noraster.pdf - with rasterize "nothing" selected settings.jpg - all export settings test.jpg - error even in rasterized output. Any thoughts? Am i doing something wrong? problem is, when i make graphics with some photos inside, i would like to use "raster unsupported" instead having all rasterized. vejire-final.pdf vejir_template.afdesign vejire-final-noraster.pdf
  8. Great work on the Designer iPad release (if only I could afford one!) just a wee niggle here with something thats driving me round the bend (since the first release of Designer) I've adapted my workflow to accommodate a workaround for accurate bleed but I'm just wondering when we're gonna get the ability to rasterise bleed and not just clip to only whats on the page? I've just been working on a CD digipak and noticed that my print ready PDF/X4 file is viewing an vector area with transparency oddly on adobe reader on iOS (looks OK on Acrobat pro on the mac) - easy problem to solve: rasterise but....... screen cast Yeah already got a workaround in place but a one click solution would save me a few rounds of F's Praise be to PUBLISHER (which will hopefully solve these probs?) 9. Simple request would be that the rasterise feature actually acknowledge the bleed associated to the document. Currently it takes the trim size but for print related work it would be far more functional to be able to place elements into the bleed and then when rasterising have the finished article have the bleed included. All the best, Mark
  10. beta 1.6.1.93 (and current version) When trying to rasterise something like a curve or ellipse on the pasteboard by right clicking and selecting 'Rasterise...' it then disappears! The layer changes to (Pixel) but seems to be empty.
  11. When exporting the document to SVG, no matter what settings I change I consistantly get one of two outcomes. 1.) --- The SVG becomes a rastered image when the export settings are set to rasterise unsupported properties. Helen's_Bike.svg 2.) --- The SVG becomes broken, Helen's_Bike_0.svg (Only the mask for the handlebars seems to work. All Shadow shapes display unmasked and the shapes used as masks seem to be released. Them being released also means that they are a layer above the Shadow layers) There are no effects on any layers, although there were previously. I had been experimenting with adding a stroke to the outside of the primary NewBike group. I have read multiple other threads that I thought might solve my solution, however nothing is working. Here is the working file Helen's_Bike.afdesign --- I appreciate any help. My only other option is paying a month for Creative Cloud to trace a PNG of the work I've done so far. And I seriously don't want to have to considering I just purchased this. I have a Windows machine and my version is a stable release. I believe version 1.5. this was downloaded half a week ago.
  12. Hi, I'm new to this forum and I haven't been able to find an answer to this particular issue. I'm working on a book cover in Affinity Designer and now I need to export my file to PDF for print. Due to transparency issues, I have to "flatten" the image before exporting. I found that to do so in AD, I first have to group and then rasterise. The only problem is that when I do this, the bleed is messed up. Instead of having the background extending into the bleed, it stops at the end of the document and the bleed is left as a white frame around the PDF (se attached picture). Is there a way around this? I can't change the dimensions of the document, and I need the bleed to ensure a correct print. Any suggestions?
  13. When the Paint Brush Tool is used on an Image layer, the target layer is automatically rasterized to convert it to a Pixel layer because the tool only works on layers of that type. The Inpainting Brush Tool and the Selection Brush Tool also only produce a result on Pixel layers, so the same automatic rasterization should be invoked when they are used.
  14. Hi. I've created some icons in a separate Affinity file which I have simply copy pasted into an artwork file which is to be exported as a PDF. These icons are being rasterised on export, which is a problem. I understand that this is likely a limitation of the PDF format - not handling some of the techniques used to create the icons, but is there a way I can 'flatten' the icons without losing fidelity? This is the first piece of actual work I've attempted in Affinity and aside from this issue I'm loving it. Thanks.
  15. I have an image within a 300 dpi document that is according to the contextual toolbar 900 dpi. While AD documents tends to be rather hungry in disk space, I thought that it would be a good idea to adjust the image resolution to match the document one to save space. The rasterise function in the layer menu seems to be a quick way to do exactly that, but... I also have 3 mm bleeds on my document with the image filling them out. Unfortunately, the rasterise function cuts the image to the document nominal size, excluding the bleeds. Is this expected or to be considered as a bug? Any suggestions on how to achieve what I'm trying to in an efficient way? (not like having to export the image at the target resolution and re-including it in the document)
  16. Thanks for the hard work on the new beta (corner tool addition etc) So, whilst rasterising some layers for some quick layout tasks, I noticed what I thought was an error in the rasterising. However it appears it might be to do with a confusion over what the 100% scale of the document is. (see attached image) In image A I have duplicated the layer and made a rasterised version. As you can see it's rather blocky. In image B All I have done here is mess about the zoom slider a lot. Eventually zooming in very far and then typing in 100%. After doing so, 100% looks larger than it did previously and the rasterised image is nice and crisp. Further messing about will put the document back to the confused state we see in image A. I'm not able to pin down a robust way to fix or break it though. I've tested the rasterising in another document (I've been working on for some time) and I get the same issue. When I start a new document and rasterise some shapes I don't get the rasterisation/scale issue. Over to you!!!
  17. In AD the text looks fine however when exported to PDF, JPEG or PNG it appears rasterised. Is this a problem with the programme or something I'm overlooking? Project and PDF attached. TEA.afdesign TEA.pdf
