  1. Attached is a macro set for splitting RGB image into separate layers for a number of colour models. RGB: Basic separation RGBW: New model! Like CMYK but Red, Green, Blue and White RGB-W: Like RGBW but only two layers for separate colour/tone editing CMY: Effective inverse of RGB CMYK: Standard internal model CMY-K: Like CMYK, but with only two layers for separate colour/tone editing HSL: New model! Hue, Saturation and Luminosity on separate layers! HSL-RGB: Same as HSL, but with Hue broken down into separate RGB layers Principles used in doing these: Start with 'Merge Visible' to create flat layer for base (saves tripping over adjustments) End with single layer group (so you can delete it in one go if you don't like it Named layers, so you know which is which Keep it simple (just the layers, no 'edit ready' adjustments such as curves, sharpening) Fast as possible (so RGB done with channels, CMYK with curves, etc), though new ones need Apply Image which can be very slow! Any bugs, etc. please let me know. Do be patient with Apply Image adjustments and don't try to 'Esc' out as this can leave you in limbo. Enjoy! Dave's Colour Models V1.afmacros
  2. The color picker found in the Add Global Color dialog dialog only picks colours in RGB, independently of the document color space. Steps to reproduce: Create a new CMYK document Create a new object on the page, for example a rectangle with C:0 M:0 Y:0 K:20 Open the Swatches panel From the Swatches panel flyout menu, chose Add Global Color Use the color picker found next to the drop down menu to pick the color from the rectangle Notice the color value is expressed in RGB rather than CMYK Thanks!
  3. How do I change the "color" window from HSL to RGB?
  4. Hi, there is significant colour inconsistency by conversion from RGB to CMYK via the adjustment layer and document setup. The soft proof adjustment layer produces different colours than the same rendering intent through document setup dialog box. See my video. Colours in video are shifted a bit, but the issue is visible. Am I doing something wrong or is there some different renderig on background when using document setup conversion? I'm not sure if the adjustment layer has smaller gamut or the luminosity differs, but CMYK colours after document colour conversion looks for me a bit better. RGB to CMYK.mov
  5. In Affinity starting with an RGB value of (100,100,100) translates to a CMYK value of (60,52,52,21). -> Why so much cyan ? -> Why is it different than this ? (here or here) -> If I plug the CMYK (60,52,52,21) in reverse here I get rgb(80,95,95) with a cyan tint, but affinity says rgb (102,100,100). Why ? In the attached file the color format is set to CMYK with profile (US Web coated SWOP v2). -> Exporting the file to PNG gives me correct result (exactly as shown on screen) -> Exporting to JPEG with color profile included gives me a cyan tint. Why ? (it doesn't include the profile after all ?) ColorTest.afdesign
  6. Hi, what is the best way to convert rgb images to cmyk for print with Affinity Photo? Thanks
  7. I am preparing a print book with color images for IngramSpark using Affinity Publisher. I must be absolutely certain that images in the PDF I submit to IngramSpark are CMYK. How can I confirm this for sure? If I open the PDF in AP using "DPI: Estimate" and "Color space: Estimate" and then check image properties with the Resource Manager, does this show the color space of the image in the PDF correctly? My concern is that opening the PDF in AP may change the image color space to a default preference.
  8. I am working changing the Sofware from the A.Designer to A.Photo, but when I do this the color in Affinity Designer are different of what it must, I attach a Video where I show this issue, and I put it here becuase sometimes when I export an image from A.Designer, it change the color and I already check all the options to corroborate that all are the same whit Affinity Photo and they are. 9. Hi Everyone, In the need to understand the sometimes complex subject of Color Models, Color Spaces and Color Profiles better, I found it hard to find a nice to read and complete source on the matter. So after I did a deep dive into the subject I decided to share what I've learned about it by writing a tutorial blog about it with illustrations and interactives. Yesterday I published part one about Color Models and color basics, to pave the way to Color Spaces for the next and last part of the article. Although not directly Affinity related, I figured this could benefit other Affinity users too in understanding Color Spaces better and when to choose which in Designer and Photo. And making Color Spaces a little less confusing to understand. Of coarse all graphics-work for illustrations and interactives in the tutorial are made in Affinity Designer. The blog is available in both Dutch (https://www.wigglepixel.nl/blog/wat-zijn-color-models/) and translated in English (https://www.wigglepixel.nl/en/blog/what-are-color-models/). Hope you like it and if this makes others understand the subject better and as enthousiastic as I am now about it after this, I reached my goal! Maarten
  10. Hi, I got some kind of a problem in Affinity Photo on Windows and also recognized that "problem" in Affinity Photo for iPad. I got 2 different documents, one already finished and the other one is the document I'm working on. I'm using the color picker tool in the document that's already finished to see what the color values are in RGB, then I type the same color values in, but I don't get the color I had in the other document. I got the same values for the RGB color space but I get different colors out of it.
  11. Hello I am used to being able to check the black point and the white point per color in the diagram when I change the tonal value per color channel in RGB mode. Is this also possible in the iPad? On the desktop this is perfectly possible with the tonal value correction! Thanks for a tip
  12. Hello, when I place a rgb-photo into a cmyk-document, is it correkt, that Affinity Photo converts automaticly the photo into the cmyk-modus? Greetings Frank
  13. Sometimes I help companies with print ads. Today I received an ad and it had colour format CMYK/8, but when I exported it to PDF and send it to the newspaper I got the following error message: "RGB color is used for transparency group". The newspaper does not allow RGB at all, only CMYK, in ads. I found the "problem", a transparent rectangle that I attach to this thread. I can not find how to change the transparency from RGB to CMYK for this vector i Affinity Designer. How do I change the transparency from RGB to CMYK? test.afdesign
  14. Hey guys, yes i know something similar has been asked before but all the other posts I have seen didn't answer my question. I understand that converting RGB to CMYK withhout color differences won't always be possible since the color garmut of RGB is a lot bigger than the one for CMYK. What I don't understand is: If i try to do it the other way (CMYK to RGB) shouldn't it be possible to get the same color in RGB as I have in CMYK? Maybe you can also tell me how you handle it if your client needs a logo in RGB and in CMYK colors and wants them to be similar. Thanks a lot in advance can't wait to hear your replies. Greetings, Julian Icon_Farbe.pdf Icon_Farbe.pdf
  15. Hi I have converted an image supplied in RGB to greyscale, to place in a book of (overwhelmingly) text, but no matter what I seem to do, when I export to PDF it seems to convert back to RGB. I am trying to export so everything is on one plate for printing. Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug, (or something in development). Everything else seems to be working pretty well - so thank you Affinity! Would be glad of any advice. Best Westrow
  16. Hello. I’m at a loss.... I’ve been trying this find a way to adjust skin tones in my images by adjusting the RGB values of the original image to standard RGB values for flesh tones. I can’t for the life of me find a way to replace one RGB value in the image to another. I’m using Affinity Photo for desktop and iPad (both). So a way to do it in either would be greatly appreciated! Help!
  17. I looked in the forums and google but i couldn't really find a solid answer. Im working on an album cover and normally for all my work (regardless of if i plan to print or not i) just set it to "print" when i open a new document. I may have fiddled a bit with the profiles in the past but i cant remember what the default is. does it make any difference?
  18. hello: is possible Display the color space in the top of the document in both programs (like photoshop)?
  19. I have some stock AI files that I purchased from a stock library and when I open them in Affinity Designer, all the colour shift from what I'm wanting them to be. I can't figure out how to shift them back! When the files are opened, I get a message popping up saying a profile has been applied to the unprofiled document. It applies US Web Coated SWOP v2. Is there a way to change what profile is applied by default? What am I supposed to be doing? I have been to the document setup panel and tried both assigning a profile, and also converting to a profile, but the colours always remain the same and don't match the colours of the same file when opened in any other applications. Here is the same file opened in Designer and Photoshop. This is a drastic colour shift that I can't understand.
  20. Is there a way to copy a color value of an object to the clipboard for pasting in an CSS file, for example? I need to apply various RGBA values (RGB with alpha/transparency) and am tired of manually typing them for every object. OK, I just found the dropdown in the color panel where you can copy the currently selected color value as HEX. That might be useful sometimes but doesn’t help me in this case. Firstly, I need RGB(A), and secondly the color is applied as color overlay effect, not as standard background color. So, I wish I could just open any color panel and there would be a similar menu as in the color panel to copy a value in different variants.
  21. I am currently testing Photo right now as a viable replacement for Photoshop, after 24 years. Since I do game development, there is a very necessary feature that I need to use and can't find it in AP. In order to do some special texture creation, I would need to be able to turn RGB visibility on and off individually per layer or layer group. In Photoshop, in a layer's properties, you can turn off Green and Blue, for example, and have only the Red channel show for that layer (or layer group). Then, in another channel, only show the Green channel. In this way, texture maps can be created for use in 3D programs like 3ds Max, and in games for things like specular effects and normal maps for bumps. Also, I don't see a way to make adjustments to levels on a specific channel by selecting it and making the changes. I need to be able to see the grayscale of each channel as I'm tweaking it. This is especially important in specular and normal map creation for games. Hopefully, someone here has worked in game dev and knows what I am referring to. If I cannot control the RGB visibility and adjustments in layers and groups, then Affinity Photo will not work for what I am doing. I truly hope it's in there, and I just don't see it, or that maybe it's in the works for the next version. Thanks.
  22. Hi to all, I would like to suggest an RGB indicator for the histogram in Affinity Photo, notably in the Photo Persona, but it would of course be good to have it in all the Personas. I've attached an image below showing the RGB indicator in RawTherapee as an example; it's the bar underneath the histogram, indicating where the R, G, B and luminance values of the hovered-over pixel fall in the histogram. I took this screen shot with my mouse positioned over the band of trees in the image. I find this indicator to be extremely useful, especially as a quick way of verifying details in very deep shadows or very bright highlights. It lets you see instantly, for example, if all channels are blown out, or if you have just one channel blown out with others still contributing detail. Seeing the position of the pixel value in the histogram is, at least for me, much more informative than the simple number given by the Info box. Thanks! KE
  23. The edit swatch pop-up pallete shows sliders and samples in RGB when in CMYK mode. The regular color pallete works fine.
  24. I'm working on a web design, and I am trying to make a custom navbar menu icon to use in my navbar. The color I am using is CSS3 SteelBlue RGB(70,130,180). I used the sliders to set my color, but on export to jpeg (using Lanczos 3 (non-separable)) my color turns into RGB(84,129,176) and no longer matches my navbar. What settings do I need to use to keep my RGB values consistent. And for those wondering, I am using Photo and not a different program.
  25. Hi.. I use this document setup: type: print (press ready) color format: cmyk/8 color profile: U. S. web coated (SWOP) v2 But I have some issues, when I choose the color on the box, and I pick that color with "color picker tool" to coloring another object, the result is totally different, only cmyk code is the same. Yes I can just copy the #xxxxxx code to coloring another object, but I want to use that color picker tool because it's simple. And the client usually use AI to open eps file, I tried to export my files from affinity to eps file, and open it in AI, and yes the color code is changing, I'm confused :p Please help me to solve this issues. Thank you for your attention :)
