  1. Hello, when I place a rgb-photo into a cmyk-document, is it correkt, that Affinity Photo converts automaticly the photo into the cmyk-modus? Greetings Frank
  2. The color picker found in the Add Global Color dialog dialog only picks colours in RGB, independently of the document color space. Steps to reproduce: Create a new CMYK document Create a new object on the page, for example a rectangle with C:0 M:0 Y:0 K:20 Open the Swatches panel From the Swatches panel flyout menu, chose Add Global Color Use the color picker found next to the drop down menu to pick the color from the rectangle Notice the color value is expressed in RGB rather than CMYK Thanks!
  3. Hi, I'm fairly new to Affinity Designer Beta and I'm having issues with RGB codes (running it on a Macbook). When I try to retrieve an RGB hex code from the color tab ("RGB Hex sliders") the code shown is incorrect. The code is accurate in Affinity Designer when I copy and paste the same vector shape onto a document there, however. (see attached images). I've checked for updates and my Beta is 1.7.0, which says that there are no updates I haven't done. Wondering if anyone had a similar problem and if they were able to solve it? Thanks!
  4. Sometimes I help companies with print ads. Today I received an ad and it had colour format CMYK/8, but when I exported it to PDF and send it to the newspaper I got the following error message: "RGB color is used for transparency group". The newspaper does not allow RGB at all, only CMYK, in ads. I found the "problem", a transparent rectangle that I attach to this thread. I can not find how to change the transparency from RGB to CMYK for this vector i Affinity Designer. How do I change the transparency from RGB to CMYK? test.afdesign

    32Bit artefact

Hi, I've been working on a document in 32 bit mode, then started to add filters then this artefact appeared but this disappeared when downgraded to 16bit. I presume it is software bug? Kind Regards C Wolland 2017-03-16 artifact.afphoto
  6. Hi I have converted an image supplied in RGB to greyscale, to place in a book of (overwhelmingly) text, but no matter what I seem to do, when I export to PDF it seems to convert back to RGB. I am trying to export so everything is on one plate for printing. Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug, (or something in development). Everything else seems to be working pretty well - so thank you Affinity! Would be glad of any advice. Best Westrow
  7. Hello. I’m at a loss.... I’ve been trying this find a way to adjust skin tones in my images by adjusting the RGB values of the original image to standard RGB values for flesh tones. I can’t for the life of me find a way to replace one RGB value in the image to another. I’m using Affinity Photo for desktop and iPad (both). So a way to do it in either would be greatly appreciated! Help!
  8. I looked in the forums and google but i couldn't really find a solid answer. Im working on an album cover and normally for all my work (regardless of if i plan to print or not i) just set it to "print" when i open a new document. I may have fiddled a bit with the profiles in the past but i cant remember what the default is. does it make any difference?
  9. Hi Everyone, In the need to understand the sometimes complex subject of Color Models, Color Spaces and Color Profiles better, I found it hard to find a nice to read and complete source on the matter. So after I did a deep dive into the subject I decided to share what I've learned about it by writing a tutorial blog about it with illustrations and interactives. Yesterday I published part one about Color Models and color basics, to pave the way to Color Spaces for the next and last part of the article. Although not directly Affinity related, I figured this could benefit other Affinity users too in understanding Color Spaces better and when to choose which in Designer and Photo. And making Color Spaces a little less confusing to understand. Of coarse all graphics-work for illustrations and interactives in the tutorial are made in Affinity Designer. The blog is available in both Dutch (https://www.wigglepixel.nl/blog/wat-zijn-color-models/) and translated in English (https://www.wigglepixel.nl/en/blog/what-are-color-models/). Hope you like it and if this makes others understand the subject better and as enthousiastic as I am now about it after this, I reached my goal! Maarten
  10. hello: is possible Display the color space in the top of the document in both programs (like photoshop)?
  11. Hi, I have to convert my pictures to a cmyk profile for professional printing. I have received a specific (custom?) ".csf" file to process my files in Photoshop (please, see scs) from my professional "printing house". I would have liked to do this step in APhoto but I do not know how to setup a custom cmyk profile. Is it possible ? I see the same problem in APublisher and moreover, I do not find a way to export in pdf with the option to not assign again a profile to pictures. Anyway, since APub is still in beta phase, I am working with (and learning) QXP2018 but I would like to know how to proceed in APub. Thank you for any advice Patrick
  12. Is there a way to copy a color value of an object to the clipboard for pasting in an CSS file, for example? I need to apply various RGBA values (RGB with alpha/transparency) and am tired of manually typing them for every object. OK, I just found the dropdown in the color panel where you can copy the currently selected color value as HEX. That might be useful sometimes but doesn’t help me in this case. Firstly, I need RGB(A), and secondly the color is applied as color overlay effect, not as standard background color. So, I wish I could just open any color panel and there would be a similar menu as in the color panel to copy a value in different variants.
  13. I am currently testing Photo right now as a viable replacement for Photoshop, after 24 years. Since I do game development, there is a very necessary feature that I need to use and can't find it in AP. In order to do some special texture creation, I would need to be able to turn RGB visibility on and off individually per layer or layer group. In Photoshop, in a layer's properties, you can turn off Green and Blue, for example, and have only the Red channel show for that layer (or layer group). Then, in another channel, only show the Green channel. In this way, texture maps can be created for use in 3D programs like 3ds Max, and in games for things like specular effects and normal maps for bumps. Also, I don't see a way to make adjustments to levels on a specific channel by selecting it and making the changes. I need to be able to see the grayscale of each channel as I'm tweaking it. This is especially important in specular and normal map creation for games. Hopefully, someone here has worked in game dev and knows what I am referring to. If I cannot control the RGB visibility and adjustments in layers and groups, then Affinity Photo will not work for what I am doing. I truly hope it's in there, and I just don't see it, or that maybe it's in the works for the next version. Thanks.
  14. Hi to all, I would like to suggest an RGB indicator for the histogram in Affinity Photo, notably in the Photo Persona, but it would of course be good to have it in all the Personas. I've attached an image below showing the RGB indicator in RawTherapee as an example; it's the bar underneath the histogram, indicating where the R, G, B and luminance values of the hovered-over pixel fall in the histogram. I took this screen shot with my mouse positioned over the band of trees in the image. I find this indicator to be extremely useful, especially as a quick way of verifying details in very deep shadows or very bright highlights. It lets you see instantly, for example, if all channels are blown out, or if you have just one channel blown out with others still contributing detail. Seeing the position of the pixel value in the histogram is, at least for me, much more informative than the simple number given by the Info box. Thanks! KE
  15. The edit swatch pop-up pallete shows sliders and samples in RGB when in CMYK mode. The regular color pallete works fine.
  16. I'm working on a web design, and I am trying to make a custom navbar menu icon to use in my navbar. The color I am using is CSS3 SteelBlue RGB(70,130,180). I used the sliders to set my color, but on export to jpeg (using Lanczos 3 (non-separable)) my color turns into RGB(84,129,176) and no longer matches my navbar. What settings do I need to use to keep my RGB values consistent. And for those wondering, I am using Photo and not a different program.
  17. Hi.. I use this document setup: type: print (press ready) color format: cmyk/8 color profile: U. S. web coated (SWOP) v2 But I have some issues, when I choose the color on the box, and I pick that color with "color picker tool" to coloring another object, the result is totally different, only cmyk code is the same. Yes I can just copy the #xxxxxx code to coloring another object, but I want to use that color picker tool because it's simple. And the client usually use AI to open eps file, I tried to export my files from affinity to eps file, and open it in AI, and yes the color code is changing, I'm confused :p Please help me to solve this issues. Thank you for your attention :)
  18. Hi, what is the best way to convert rgb images to cmyk for print with Affinity Photo? Thanks
  19. Today I had a lot of crashes when changing the ICC profile. I didn't experience such crashes in the past. I think all the files today had no embedded profile and got my eciRGBv2-workprofile assigned on opening. When changing that to sRGB via conversion or assigning – affinity photo crashed.
  20. This may be a very silly question. Is there a way to automatically convert a vector image created with rgb colours into CMYK without having to select each individual colour and changing it manually? No I don't want to convert it when saving it but to action it on the page.
  21. hello, new here. I read some topics on conversion from rgb to cmyk but still in doubt... I have done some illustrations for a children book in affinity designer, with ,for some, backgrounds with gradients, text on a path. all in rgb. First time I am working in vectors. The infographist who is assembling everything for the printer ask me to convert to cmyk. I did, reworked the colours that were different and very dulled. when converting I choose, print (press-ready), 300 dpi, cmyk-8 (us web coated swop)V2, transparent background and checked " assign" He asked for a EPS file. When he opened the file, a warning appeared saying that some elements were still in rgb. Did I missed something? I have multi layers with vectors , should I merge them? Apparently, text on a path can be a problem as gradiant, some are from full colour to transparent. thank you very much for your help Benedicte
  22. Hello forum! I designed a new logo for our company, and ran into some issues with colour rendition, as I supplied the colours to our local newspapers for print. Designer is only accurate for CMYK rendition, and no other codes are even close! You can see from the screenshot the colour codes for this blue. Note that the HSL doesn't match from the colour wheel open, to that of the wheel above and to the right. Here are 3 websites that all agree almost exactly with HEX, CMYK, RGB and HSL; again note that the CMYK code in Designer is correct! http://www.colorem.net/en/?huein=&satin=&lightin=&cin=&min=&jin=&nin=&redin=&greenin=&bluein=&hexin=000a7d&format= https://www.colorhexa.com/000a7d https://www.w3schools.com/colors/colors_cmyk.asp?color=cmyk(1, 0.25, 0, 0) I have made all of the necessary adjustments for my printing and display purposes, so I post this to help make good software better! Cheers, Louis
  23. Hey guys, yes i know something similar has been asked before but all the other posts I have seen didn't answer my question. I understand that converting RGB to CMYK withhout color differences won't always be possible since the color garmut of RGB is a lot bigger than the one for CMYK. What I don't understand is: If i try to do it the other way (CMYK to RGB) shouldn't it be possible to get the same color in RGB as I have in CMYK? Maybe you can also tell me how you handle it if your client needs a logo in RGB and in CMYK colors and wants them to be similar. Thanks a lot in advance can't wait to hear your replies. 24. Dear Affinity-Community, I hope you can help me in this case ! I created a flyer using Affinity Designer. Colors are CMYK (ISO Coated v2 300% (ECI)). For this flyer I have approx. 50 photos of leather watch straps, where the color is one of the most important things. I edited these photos in Photoshop CC and they really looked fine in PS CC (also CMYK !). The colors are very rich and deep if you are looking at the photos in Photoshop CC. Then I exported the photos from Photoshop and saved them as PNG (CMYK / ISO Coated v2 300% (ECI)). Also the image looked fine when I opened it at the preview on the iMac. But as soon as I import this image to Affinity Designer, the colors are very very pale ! I hope you can help me get this problem under control. Thank you in advance ! Best regards Lucas
  25. Hi all, im new here and this is my frist thread here at the affinity forum. I hope it wrote it in the right topic. So here is my first question: I just made an DIN A5 Flyer (2-sided) in Affinity Designer (Artboard). I then exported the file as PDF/X3 for the printing house and made a test-print at home. In the test-print i saw that there are some errors in the picture. These errors were imported RGB-files, that aren't converted into CMYK color space while importing. As i come from Adobe Illustrator, there is an automatic message if you import files that are in another color-space and you then have the opportunity to automatically convert the imported picture to the document color-space. Is this not possible with ADesigner? Next is, that the error was not recognizable at the monitor, only at the printout! Can anyone tell me how to configure ADesigner that this error cannot happen anymore? (before upcoming questions: the monitor has a 99%sRGB color space and is calibrated) Picture 1 shows the pdf as it is shown at the monitor Picture 2 shows the error on the printout
