  1. I often run into the issue where I want to modify the curve object while I am drawing it. While I use the Ctrl key to temporarily activate the Node to move vertices around, I can't add nodes to the curve. That is because the Ctrl shortcut deletes a curve segment. 2022-11-23 16-06-17.mp4 This is strange to me, because if I switch to the node tool, I would expect that clicking would allow me to add vertices, like it would in the node tool. Instead, holding Ctrl to switch to the node tool also sets the node tool to delete segments. At the same time, Ctrl+Shift also deletes segments. Now then, shouldn't Ctrl+Shift be used to delete segments, whereas holding Ctrl should add vertices? That would enable all modification methods, while also making it the tool more consistent with the stand alone node tool.
  2. Hello! I want to know how to blend points inside a shape, I often download things from Getty Images and have to modify it, However sometimes the shapes are very complex and create "Holes" inside itself, there is a way to control this points? On the example below, this is a simple letter A from the Montserrat family but it shows a clear example of what I want to do. Here the Letter A is not closed, if I move the curves points around it will create a hole on the letter, so I want to create 2 points on the straight line to merge then to the curved shape, then delete the points inside of the shape to not have them lying around. What is the best approach? Cheers!
  3. Hi Forum! I have a problem: I want to collapse 2 points of a curve, not to one point, but with a distance. I know this function from many 3D programs like Blender or Cinema4D. See Figure 1. Figure 1: Here the problem is shown simplified on a cube--> trapezoid. But this problem is much more general and can be applied to many different shapes! (I know the trapezoid tool!) I always use workarounds for this e.g. 1: I use an auxiliary curve and then align the points and delete the auxiliary object. See Figure 2. Figure 2: Workaround 1: Use helping curve/object (in black). 2: I only work with coordinates. (I do this very unwillingly!!) So here is my question is there a key compination to achieve this? The problem sounds so simple..... AD is such a good program so I can't believe I am the only one with this problem. Thanks for your help!
  4. Would be nice if I cloud connect certain nodes I selected without snapping them each other. A problem with "Join Curve" action of Node tool is that it connects nearest combination of nodes automatically, so I can not choose which combination. UPDATE: this has been improved in v1.8. now you can connect nodes you selected.
  5. Hello everybody! I have Affiniyt Photo and would like to know if it is possible to place an image in the perspective tool like in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Py0dlOAUfp4&t=606s Can anyone tell me if it is possible to do this in Affinity Photo. Congratulations to the whole Affinity team!
  6. If I have a circle, and I want to delete half of it - to create an arc (i.e. the circle is no longer closed), how can I do that ? :-) I've tried convert to curves, thinking this may stop it from closing. However every time I delete a point, a new curve is generated between the two open points. Any ideas ? Is there a check box somewhere to not close end points ? Thanks Gary
  7. Is it possible to draw a single point in AD? As in, a single point, not attached to a path? Or is there another way to create an object to snap to that is a single point only - perhaps a small circle and snapping to its centre? I have a complex drawing of a building to create, and need to align many irregular points into a triangular 'grid'. Because the grid is 'wrapped' onto the building, the triangles are not a uniform size or shape. It is critical for my project that they are actually triangles (3 points only, though the sides can be curved). My first attempt was to draw in the lines across the whole building and then use their (expanded) stroke to 'punch' out the triangles. This worked visually, but any inaccuracy in the meeting points of the lines created 'clipped corners' on the main triangles, and small triangles in the joins. After a few attempts, I think an approach could be to mark the intersection points on the grid, and then use those to snap the points along the lines, to ensure they cross accurately. This seems easy enough, except I can't think of a way to create a single snapping point that's not on a path. Lastly, I need to place many hundreds (maybe thousands!) of these points manually, so a solution would need to be reasonably streamlined to be practical. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
  8. Hello, I have two lines. From the first, I move point A with the node tool to position B. Now, I want to move the point A from a second line with the same values. How can I do this?
  9. When I expand my stroke some of points are duplicated. It usually happens on endings... If I move a dot we can find duplicate with same coordinates. Adobe Illustrator has same issue and that is the main reason why font designers avoid using it. It looks as you have same algorithm. I would recommend to pay a lot attention to this. I do love your app especially for pressure window It allows me to imitate calligraphy But now I need to clean path manually which is time consuming.
  10. Hi, yes, yet another "how to join 2 nodes post", but I've been in struggle for two days now, I'm creating a font and will have a lot of this places with 2 points together but with different bezier points (see image), I need really clean vector with 1 point instead of 2. When moving 1 point to second one, it highlights in yellow color and snaps to it, I looks like YAAYYY it converted into 1 point???? NO, it's still 2 points just hanging in the same coordinates Selecting 2 points and clicking "Join curves" "Close curves" nothing is happening. "Smooth curve" is great feature, but not great for me in this situation, as shape very much changes How to really create 1 point from 2? without touching the bezier handles and doing anything with hands again (it will ruin the original shape) P.S. Also, why point sometimes have square markers and sometimes round markers? (like in attachment)
  11. a point that shoots lines in all directions that can be used for drawing better in perspective and that you can have multiple dots so you can make better forms for closer building the points may need to be outside the canvas
  12. As you are designing tools to help align things based on key object, etc., is it possible to have an option to align a point to another point? It would nice for drawing to select a point and have it align to a key point you select. Thanks!
  13. Hi guys It seems that I am not able to join nodes from different curves with the pen tool, like I am used to in for example Adobe Illustrator. I think it would speed up my work enormously if I were to be able to join different curves’ nodes with the pen tool instead of drawing extra nodes, selecting these and applying the action Join Curves every time. I hope you will consider this. Thank you!
  14. Hi there, Request for better visual contrast between Smooth Nodes and their Control Handles. Blue Circles, all! Because the Control Handles are only distinguishable by being a bit smaller, when you've selected a bunch of nodes, it can be a real visual challenge to sort them out. It's not a big deal if you're mostly drawing straight lines. But when you draw complex, organic shapes (like sketching in vectors with a stylus), you get long lines full of nodes, and when you select them, it looks like a string of blue Christmas lights! (<—Click attached JPG of the same path: Top is nodes unselected, Bottom is selected.) The Control Handles make it look like 3 times as many nodes. Personally I'd prefer if Control Handles were either - a different colour than nodes, or - a different shape, or - both. (Or customizable in Prefs!) Thanks, - pbass
  15. Feature currently available in Photoshop & Illustrator. Very Useful when you design something with a bounding/text box and decide later you would prefer using Point text & vice versa.
  16. Very MUST HAVE feature, when you are selecting points, they appears in own bounding box, and you can manipulate it like an object — scale, rotate warp (add warp). Just like in 3dsmax. Open 3dsmax and just add many coolest features from there, your app will conquer universe. Just from Edit Poly tool. Add extruding edges — killer feature... Just a lot of basic tools and you will be a king... Also: copying along path, matrix, create object arrays etc.; make instances or copies of objects, make it separate type. Make linked or embedded objects. Would be great to have ability to join many edges to one vertex (but the last is like fantastic)))
  17. Hi! I was playing with Figma and jumped back to Designer to compare the two. A really good feature that Designer is missing is the ability to snap vector point handles.
  18. I'm having trouble scaling lines within groups, for example I have an object within a group with a line width of 4pt when scaling down a larger artwork this element/line retains its line width. I have isolated objects and checked scale with artwork options and even tried selecting all from the wire frame view, but still have random lines that don't want to scale, leaving me to edit lines individually each time? When starting new work I know to click the individual scale options on lines, however when working on a detailed piece of artwork I don't always think to click this and cant find a way of applying this option to every line quickly. (Example uploaded see pocket)
  19. Hello - I'm wondering if creating a solo point is possible. Thus far, I haven't figured out a solution. If this isn't yet a feature, it would be nice to have (for things like typography and playing in the Cartesian plane). Drew
  20. I am in the very early days of using Designer and cannot fathom how I can set preferences permanently. In Illustrator you set it under Illustrator/Preferences but I cannot see a similar option under Affinity Designer/Prefereneces. Every document I will work with will need text as point size (not mm) so how do I permanently set it? The same goes with the document dimensions - I want every document I create to be in mm so how do I do that? Thanks in advance.
  21. Freehand MX had the ability to increase or decrease the size of a path/object - will or does Affinity have this option? Very helpful tool I use often - thanks for the help.
