  1. Hi! This is really the only feature I think I need. Disappointed to not see it in AD as it's already offered when using a shape tool (see below). Thank you.
  2. I am using iPad Pro 9.7. In using Pen Tool, when the new point I try to add is in close proximity to the previous, I get a contextual menu of Select-Copy-Paste-Delete. Sometimes the app just simply refuse to add the point. Sometimes a magnifier-like circle comes up. What’s happening?
  3. I love the possibility to stretch a curve directly (no need to control both handles). And I like the “organic forms” we can achieve with that options. But there are situations where we would need to stretch curves maintaining handles direction (even if that handles are not horizontal or vertical) My suggestion is: — Direct manipulation of curve ---> actual behavior — SHIFT + direct manipulation of curve ---> modify curve maintaining handles direction Next capture shows a practical case maintaining HV handles (very useful for corners):
  4. My first question here! :-) Love the paths! Just a first thing that I don't get to find (maybe not implemented yet?) I know that I can press SHIFT to force Horizontal, Vertical, 45 degrees, when drawing. OK. But, how to force to that angles H/V/45 to some existing handles? (previously created, I mean) In Illustrator/Photoshop we press SHIFT. But Affinity uses that key to maintain existing angle (a fantastic utility, I love it). Thanks!

    Brushes to stroke a path

I hope the attached image makes this clearer and I can't figure out what's wrong (or, what I'm doing wrong). I'm trying to "ink" a pen shape with a brush/texture and although the option appears to be there, I can't find it in the online manual. It's not a deal-breaker but I've been pulling my hair out for ours (well, pulling my virtual hair out anyway because the real stuff abandoned my like my youth. ) Can someone explain please? Or is this actually a bug?
  6. Hi, I'm working a lot with the pen tool to draw smooth curves or straight curves, but I find myself a lot of times wanting to make one handle in a 90 degrees straight angle (no curve) leaving the other side smooth (curved). Look at the video of a simplified situation I have almost dayly here. As you can see there's no way (at least I know rightnow) to make one side of the curve 90degrees straight. Just to be complete: I know about boolean operators and masks, but boolean operators unfortunately result in a lot of junk anchors at the current version of Publisher and change the way the curve is build. That's not what I want. Neither do I want to use non-destructive methods like masks, clips, artboards or whatever. I really want to cut off the shape destructive without creating extra/different anchor points that messes up the shape. So in short: I'd like to cut of one handle or make it straight... 1) Is there a way to cut a handle, or making one handle a 'straight' one, leaving the other one curved? 2a) Is there a way to snap a handle to a 45, 90, ..., 180, ... and so on degree angle or set the rotation from anchor to handle by numbers? 2b) Right now I can't find a way to know if the angle is straight. Is there any way to know at what exact angle a handle is to its anchorpoint? If this would be possible that would make my day(s) how-to-cut-a-handle.mp4
  7. This is a question that I've googled a lot, but the lastest builds of Designer (late 2018) are different and there isn't any "Selection" or "Mask" button into the Pen tool contextual menu.
  8. Hello guys, I would like to ask you, if there is any possibility how to set pressure of the brush while using pen tool? not just the same widht brush. thank you
  9. Hey folks, Am I missing a rubber band option for the standard bezier pen tool in Designer?
  10. Using the Pen Tool to outline a map of the United States. Getting beyond halfway some when using the pen, the app will crash instantly. No freeze, no hang just a close. As I have slowly moved forward using the Pen Tool some more the crashes become more and more frequent. They happen frequently enough to where the auto-recovery no longer catches my progress. So I have to ctrl-s every few moves in order to not loose work. I recall this happening a while back as well and am surprised something like this has continued to plague the product. This is on Windows 10, app version 1.6.4.104. Let me know what more information you need to track this problem down. Thank you.
  11. Hello people, I am new to Affinity Designer and have a question to which I cannot really find the answer online. Hope someone here can help me. I have attached some pictures to clarify. I want to create a baseball cap made up of 4 separate shapes made with the pen tool. This because I want to add different fill colors to each shape. Is there a way to make Affinity close the lines of each shape automatically, so it follows the exact form of the adjacent line? If not, how would you go about it? Regards, Marlon
  12. When I bought Affinity Designer, I assumed I could use the pen tool to make precise selections. But I can't find any way to turn a shape made with the pen tool into a selection. When I Google "Affinity pen tool selections," I find that you can do it with Affinity Photo. It seems like pen tool selections should be available with Designer too, since it has a pixel persona. Am I missing something?
  13. I'm currently having two issues with Affinity Designer... Purchased copy 1.6.4.104 The beginning scenario is this, I have 40 something mb Affinity Photo file placed into a designer document and I am attempting to trace the image with the pen tool (No auto trace tool yet) as I do this between every three to ten minutes the app just closes! and I have to reopen the app and my file each time to continue. ctrl-s is my friend! I ran it with task manager performance charts visible while working and noted that while idle CPU use is very low while this document is open, and memory is flat at 3gb.. (Installed is 8gb) and no other apps running on the system. However every time I place a node with the pen tool I noticed that the CPU spikes between 80 and almost 100%.. GPU use is low however at the moment of the app crashing/closing I noticed that the GPU spiked to 100%... It drives me nuts but for the time being I am tolerating it as it's a personal project and using Photoshop/illustrator is no longer an option. Is this a memory management issue buried deep in the code??? is anybody else having similar issues? I am happy to provide my file and screen shots of the performance graphs if required. Cheers... Machine specs as follows: Windows PC - OS - Windows 10 Pro 1803 build CPU - i3 8100 (Quad core Coffee Lake) Ram: 8gb DDR4 @ 2666Mhz GPU = Nvidia GTX 770 2gb Vram SSD - Samsung 960 Evo 500gb NVME
  14. I'm having an issue with the pen tool in smart mode in affinity photo with my surface pro 4, the current curve i'm drawing randomly ends and a new one starts, this doesn't always happen, but so regularly its really annoying, i keep having to use the history tool to go back, and often even reverting to the previous item in history it still retains a new starting point for a curve until i click back another history state back, then i am able to finish the curve.
  15. Pen tool was ALWAYS crashing on me. Always when working on something longer it will crash at some point. Very annoying. I was trying to find a way to replicate the crash and finally I did. Although I am sure that this is not the only iteration when pen tool is crashing AP, here how you can replicate it: Make new document, choose pen tool, place few random nodes and then catch the last node with CTRL, keep pushing control and WHILE MOVING that node hit space and keep it pushed while still moving mouse. It may take couple tries but you will crush Photo. Basically ctrl+space and moving mouse. I really hope pen tool will get fixed one day... Its one of the most used tools when it comes to my work... I am talking about latest stable version on Windows 7.
  16. I'm trying to draw using the pen tool But whenever I create a new line, Affinity Designer automatically changes the stroke settings from what I've chosen to what they were on the previous line I made. It's incredibly annoying and frustratingly difficult to get anything done. https://streamable.com/2r4nm This may be related to this bug, which adds the previously used color to the swatch instead of the currently selected color:
  17. Dear all, I have a curve / line, created using the pen tool, representing a church tower. I now need to add two nodes, to make the tower look slightly different. Unfortunately i do not know how to add nodes to the existing "curve". Any hint would be highly appreciated. Thank you! :-)
  18. Hi I would find it really helpful to be able to draw lines and circles that are tangent to either 1 or 2 existing circles. I have a link here that shows what I am talking about - it is a program called AutoCAD https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=autocad+snap+to+tangent&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-b&gfe_rd=cr&dcr=0&ei=UpkJWsC7CebG8Aft1I-oAg#gfe_rd=cr&kpvalbx=1 Thanks Rob

  21. Hi. I am struggling in something that whenever I try to make something, I don't get to use the smartness of Affinity Designer. It doesn't show me the automated height, length and angle thing. Like in the below screenshot, I am trying make something with the pen tool but then affinity designer is not showing the right height I should make so that it matches the previously drawn side on the other half (or I say follow the symmetry). How do I make a symmetrical vectors? Screenshot: P.S.: I am trying to learn things and if you think there is some video which could help me out too (any tutorial)? Please care to share with me. Any help is always appreciated. Thanks.
  22. Please add an option for disabling the magnifying glass while using the pen tool and node tool. The magnifying glass is a nice feature when using a finger, but with the Apple Pencil it blocks the view and makes the process of editing curves harder. Thank you.
  23. A request to add an option of disabling the magnifying glass for the pen tool and node tool. The magnifying glass is a nice feature when using a finger, but with the Apple Pencil it blocks the view and makes the process of editing curves harder. Thank you.
  24. Working with the pen tool, I've noticed that there is no way to snap the bezier handles to 45° and 90° angles once the node has been placed. Normally, this would be done by holding down the shift key while moving the bezier handle. In Affinity designer, this locks the handle to the angle it was last placed at. My suggestion would be to keep the current behavior, but add an alternate keyboard shortcut that will lock the bezier handles to 45° and 90° (and possibly other) angles. Could be CMD + DRAG, CMD + SHIFT + DRAG, etc.. Thanks!
