  1. Hi all, I'm considering buying Designer but one thing that I can't find is if there is a way to fill an object using vector or patterns. I only find gradients and bitmap. I know we can duplicate an object to create hand made pattern but I can't then edit the repetitions like if is a bitmap fill. Cheers, Juan
  2. Hi, I want to make a repeating pattern and saw a Photoshop tutorial ( https://binged.it/2tZ6SDb ) where they used an offset function to do this. I've tried searching for something similar in Affinity Designer but cannot seem to find an equivalent? Is there something I've missed? istring
  3. Hi guys, just a quick and easy way to create a waves pattern or a chevron pattern without using the pen tool.
  4. Sorry if it's duplicate post. It would be nice to have a pattern fill feature with a few patterns to start with instead of gradient tool and bitmap fill. Also quickly create patterns by drawing a square on your shapes and save them to swatch library. Or..at least if you save gradient fill with a bitmap image, and reapply that fill on another shape to get the same size of the pattern. See the image, they all get a different size.
  5. Hi all,I really like Affinity Designer but the more features arrive, the more complicated is becomes.. There is a new challenge for me and Affinity Designer for which I would need your help and ideas: Creating a mermaid digital paper as a seamless repeating pattern. I got an at least basic version of the attached one (no glitter, no lightning etc.) but due to the shadows it wasn't seamless on the vertical. If seamless isn't possible due to the different lightning effects of my sample picture attached, how could I achieve anyway the digital paper mermaid look of my sample? Important: It definitely has to be scalable vector, no copied images etc.. Thanks a lot in advance. I'm looking so forward to your help and your ideas! Foxi
  6. Basically what the title says- pattern stamp tool request similar to photoshop, as an extension of the clone stamp tool concept. Texture samples could be applied to the pattern stamp, which can then be used as an overlay brush or something. I would also like for the joint ability to sample from images to create new patterns and textures to turn into brushes.
  7. I have been going thru old posts regarding pattern design and am wondering a few things..... do you gain anything by creating your pattern as a symbol? and if you do, can you export that symbol and use it to fill? (found a great tut that showed using symbols and you can see 'live' how your pattern is looking and where it's working and not working) if you create your pattern, export and use it to fill is that the best way to go? new to affinity and just trying to figure out how i want to work pattern design in AD. any patterns designers out there? thanks so much!
  8. Hey there, I deleted Adobe Illustrator from my pc and started using Affinity Designer. I'm already getting used to it, but one questions for now remains: How do I hatch fonts/letters with a certain pattern (see attached picture as example, Letter "O" pattern) Thank you in advance.
  9. Hi, For a project I need to add a <pattern> fill to svg elements. It's no problem generating them by code withJavascript, but it would be a lot faster if there is a way to create these patterns from the Designer-editor. Is there a way to create vector-patterns in Designer that export to a <pattern> element on svg export? Thanks!
  10. Hi. I have a simple 10x10 area I want to fill with a 1x1 pattern without stretching or distorting the pattern. I have drawn the initial pattern in AD. I can rasterize it, but the fill tool insists on stretching it to make it fit instead of repeating the raster. I'd prefer to keep the pattern 'live', like a symbol, so I can still edit it after setting up the file. Should I aim to work with the source pattern as an asset? a source? a bitmap fill (which seems like the worst option)? Thanks folks. Dying here.
  11. Hope AD will provide vector based pattern | swatches. I like my fills sharp and crisp.

    free experimental brushes

been playing around this afternoon with some different methods of creating custom brushes. Thought I'd share some of the results. this small group of 5 brushes will work in both affinity photo and Designer (Pixel Persona) There are a couple that might make interesting borders, and some that just make interesting grunge or painterly effects experimental Brushes.afbrushes
  13. Hi all, tady I started my new project www.downbg.com
  14. Hey everyone! I am working a lot on patterns (literally hundreds) that I want to repeat on both x and y later on. For doing so, it would be very useful to be able to offset and repeat (wrap) curves and groups using Affine and being able to access Affine in Designer. Right now, it only seems accessible in Photo and trying to Affine curves or groups will rasterize them. Best wishes, Shu

    Gradient and tiling patterns

Whenever I try to use the gradient tool to apply a tiling pattern, this is what I get instead:
  16. Hi. I used Illustrator before for shoe drawing. I'm using Affinity Design now, If I load leather materials as JPG, how can I make it for pattern. And Is there live paint bucket tools as like Illustrator? And Warp tool? Thank you very much.
  17. I find it very tough in Affinity to apply simple patterns, espassely if you want to quickly swap or modify them. It would be nice if there was a "Pattern overlay" layer effect, where you could select an image, with a blend mode and scale, which will be repeated on the layer. As currently the only way to apply a pattern is to use a textured brush. Thank you!
  18. I it would be great to have a parametric replicator over or within shape or along shape using any layer as source. we would be able to change size and color of the included element by random or progressive scale etc.... Exemple of use Present Paper... or massive banners. Let me know if you have any easy way to achieve this.
  19. Hello everyone, I am a new user of affinity designer, i have 2 questions about patterns: 1. Is there a way to create a pattern as a fill color other than to create a separated file or a symbol and repeat it manually? 2. How to open/import ai files which include a path filled with a pattern. (When i open a ai file includes pattern fill, it seems it converts pattern to bitmap and pixelated which i dont want and i can't manipulate the pattern.) Thank you all.
  20. 89/5000 Hello, is among the plans to create brushes vector pattern? it would be very useful
  21. So I made this video for my weekly blog....and I thought you guys might get some value out of the downloadable template...I attached it here .....and the tutorial that actually shows you how to make it. J Downloadable Madala files.zip
  22. Can u produce a pattern along a curve like it works with text objects? Would be great if I get an answer.
  23. Hi everyone, I was asked if in Affinity i can get a comparable effect like the Pattern overlay in the Photoshop Layereffects. We use Embedded PDF files in Architectural Plans, and often a good way of improoving the Look is just to make a pattrn overlay in the Layereffects of Photohop, when replace the embedded pfd file.. is there any idea to do something comparable in Affinity Photo ?
  24. Hi, I need to create a design with a vector background pattern consisting of small dots. How do I make that with Affinity Designer? Cheers Vince
  25. I was very interested in this: http://tinyurl.com/ybd2jhgp But I wasn't sure it would work in Affinity Designer so I wrote to the creator and this is the answer I got: Unfortunately, I haven't converted this one to Affinity as it's pattern brush feature isn't accurate enough to make the brushes as good as I’d like. If they improve it in the future I'll definitely make an Affinity version. So is this something that is being worked on? Or is there something like these brushes out there that do work with Affinity Designer? Sig
