  2. Dear all, can someone provide a helpful answer/solution to the following problem? PROBLEM: When using Affinity INSTEAD of Adobe CS, this often means that you will not have access to Adobe Acrobat and, on Mac, this means you also don’t have Adobe’s PDF printer driver. Of course you can write a PDF from Affinity, but for example, if you want to omit the Author from the PDF information, this seems not to be possible. I found a workaround, but one that gives me other problems: I opened the resulting PDF (written from Affinity Publisher’s export option) in Mac preview, then chose "Print", and the option "save as PDF". By doing so, I was then able to change or omit the author's identity in the dialogue options. BUT… Since I only have installed one physical printer (a laser printer), the resulting PDF from this process now uses the printers margins and cuts off parts on each side of the document (it is a bleed page). Thus, I was looking for a printer driver I could install on my iMac that I could choose alternatively to change the PDF Metadata, but without giving me new and inacceptable problems. Specifically, I was looking for a free PDF printer driver for Mac. I could’t find a single one. It seems for Windows there are free printer drivers out there, but not for Mac. I don’t want to buy Acrobat or any other costly program like PDF expert at the moment. QUESTION: Does anyone know a free PDF printer driver for Mac that you could recommend to me? If not, any ideas on how to go about solving such a problem. FINAL WORD I have to admit that I’m relatively new to the Mac, so maybe I just didn’t get how to install a printer driver here, but I couldn’t manage to get it done. Your help and support are mightily welcome. Thank you very much! Thomas P.S. I know this is not exactly a problem or question related to Affinity Software, but since the combination of Mac and Affinity (instead of Adobe CS) should be a typical one, I guess more users might have the same problem. In a way, it’s a logical consequence of using Affinity on Mac, so I’m posting it here because I think, that actually MAKES it an Affinity problem, well … kind of.
  3. I've just spent the last one hour trying to find the interactive text menu or the hyperlink window in Designer 1.9. Just can't. I need to add a clickable link to a post that I am creating. I can't find interactive text in the text menu, nor can I find the hyperlink menu in the Studio menu. Please help. Thanks Ashok
  4. I am having an issue with exporting a file as a PDF file of any type. At one point the PDF export included strange characters for text, now I am not able to export the PDF at all. I receive an error message that says "An error occurred while exporting to:" I have even tried to export to an external hard drive.
  5. Is there an easy way to place a multipage PDF? I know I can open a PDF and I know you can place a PDF on a spread and select a page, but is there a more efficient way of doing this? I work in music publishing and I am constantly importing scores created in music engraving programs. InDesign has both a script that will place each page on a new spread and also a way to load the cursor with the entire file and it will place the next page every time you click. Are either (or another) of these techniques available here?
  6. Hello all, I have created a Publisher document in A4 format and then placed and scaled it in an A3 document. The page box is "Bleedbox". On the right outer side there is a rotated text frame, which is about 4.5 mm from the right document edge in the Publisher document. If I export this document as a PDF, this text frame is suddenly directly at the edge of the page, right at the bleed. Here is a screenshot: I have attached the two documents. I would be very interested to know what is happening here, because I don't have a solution for this. Thank you all very much! Regards, Felix A3_Upscaling.afpub A3 Upscaling.pdf
  7. I have two book formatting files. One with large images, both linked and embedded, and one with smaller images both linked and embedded. When I go to export the file with the larger images, the file is under 50MB, but when I go to export the one with larger sized images, it is over 200MB. Please help, as I'm losing my mind trying to get the large file size down. Both have the same export settings (I've attached a screenshot of both files w estimated file size). Any insight on what I could do to reduce the file size without affecting the quality of the images would be helpful. Thanks in advance.
  8. I have produced a pdf version of the Affinity Photo manual that you can read without starting the program. It can be interesting to put it on your phone or tablet to read when you have some time to spare. Since the file is too big to upload here, I have put it on Dropbox for you to download. It is current for the last version of Affinity Photo. Comments welcomed. Here is the link: https://dropbox.com/s/d3uxmmypdx9ruzw/Affinity%20Photo%20Manual.pdf?dl=0
  9. Hi there, this is the first big project using APublisher as a former Serif PagePlus and AI user. For some reason, all "l" and some "." are pixeled as soon as I export them into PDF. See exampel. No change of font, export into curves does make a difference. I never had this issue nowhere before. Do you have an idee, what this may be? Other than that I'm very happy with the Affinity Suite.
  10. Hi! Isnt it possible to give a placed PDF-file a border and/or a background in Publisher 1.9.2.1024? I have to do a workaround by droping a (white) rectangle behind the placed PDF. But this is very timeconsuming and not handy. Choosing a border and a backgroundcolor on the marked PDF-box is not working. Nothing is happen. Thanks for any hints. Martin
  12. I found a bug after crating a document with some characters of the font "Winding" in a new document. After exporting the publisher file to pdf and reimport this PDF File in Publisher the characters of the Windings font are not visible. the characters of Windings are often used as Textboxes in formulars to choose an option. The behavior is reproduceable. Regards erdi12
  13. A few days ago I posted my initial query and did it wrong and the title came out as "PLP" so I haven't had any responses. I have used an old version of InDesign for 12 years or more from CS3, and I am retired and do a monthly publication for an HOA. I never thought to look at the size of the pdf before submitting to the publisher. In January I started using Affinity. Before Covid I was doing 16 pages with 20 or more color photos. Now I'm doing 8-12. Had a problem with the 2nd issue going over 20 MBs! Would barely go out on email to be proofed and published wouldn't accept it. I had 3 HDR photos in it so thought that was the problem. No. I'm working on this new edition last week, 12 pages, only 4 photos, Easter graphics, and nearing the end it was 23MBs! I created a new document and brought over one page at a time; saved it and exported it to see the total MBs. It was going fine; just a little over or under 1 MB per page. And then I got to one that was nearly 6MBs. I took out the graphics and 1 photo; still 5+. I thought "it couldn't be the text" but I brought that over alone and yes, it was the text. Why?????? Only maybe a half page. Deadline was approaching, tearing my hair out, I sat down at the computer and opened my email and what was staring at me was "Try InDesign for one week free". So I did that, redid the whole publication again, put the photos and graphics back in. And InDesign's pdf was 5.1MB. I looked back at an issue a year ago before Covid, which was 16 pages and probably 20 photos, all color, and the pdf was 14.7MBs. A friend read where Affinity 'bloats' the photos somehow, or a word to that effect, but in this case it wasn't the photos. Soon we'll be out of Covid and back to 16 pags with photos of the activities and I need the finished document to be under 20MBs like InDesign. Is there something simple I need to click or check or something? I paid UDEMY for instructions, and I've just gotten accustomed to it and I'd hate to have to find a new program....or pay $20.99 a month for InDesign when I'm not being paid for my work. Thanks.
  14. HI there, One feature Photoshop has which I really miss in Affinity Photo is the ability to extract the images from a PDF. Often clients supply a PDF, which contains images that you might want to use without the text over the top, or cropped differently. If you could import the original image, it will be more usable in other projects. Thanks Andy
  15. On a printout from a PDF created in Designer, the art graphics are more clear and have deeper color where a .PNG image with transparency is than other areas beyond the edge of the .PNG image. In the .afphoto file, line art is in a layer below the .PNG image. I have version 1.9.1 on PC desktop running Win 10 and printing with an HP Laser Jet Pro. I've attached a detail image taken of the printout. What's going on? Is this a bug? Roger
  16. I'd love to see Affinity Publisher support tagged and accessible PDFs from the ground up, ideally with full support for PDF/UA. Many institutions and government bodies require this for public documents, and making it part of the program's logic could be a major selling point. I am not convinced that the way in which InDesign implements this in is the best way of going about it; it tends to create a lot of extra work that most people don't bother with. Instead, it should be possible to use this structural information to make document creation more efficient and improve a print/Web workflow.
  17. Hello, i have designed a document for printing. It ist layouted in double-sites. I exported the document with single-sites and a 3 mm bleed for printing. This is the pdf with the Problem: Tourflyer-2021-problem.pdf I attached a Sreenshot from Publisher, i´m using the latest Version. I hope, someone knows the solution. Thanks Tim
  18. This is day 1 with Affinity Publisher so I may have missed something obvious. When I open a 150 page pdf I've been working on with Acrobat (I'm hoping to escape to Affinity) some of the greyscale images appear as a small part of the whole image, low contrast and a bit mangled. I've attached an example exported page. The pdf is a photo book, all BW images though they may vary in their original colour profile and resolution when the original was assembled in a mix of Acrobat & Indesign. The majority of the pages look fine in AP. It all looks fine in Acrobat. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what's going on and if it will be possible to open these existing files properly in Publisher? duff p25 210309 WORKING DH work in progess 19.pdf
  19. When I open a PDF exported by Affinity Publisher I am able to see some of the metadata (title, author, etc.), I would like to edit them before I save the PDF. I wasn't able to find the feature in the menu, I think I might have missed it. Can anybody help?
  20. This is a nightmare. PDF export just mangles all the text - well not all of it, just most of it. Randomly it leaves bits ok even with exactly the same font, styles, colours, weights, and the same master objects applied - you can see in the screenshots one spread in the doc is ok and one is not (most aren;t) . Some headings are ok but body text is mashed. There's no logic to this, nothing consistent about why and how it fails. Publisher came out just in time for me to start these two jobs with a hard print deadline. After 2 - 3 days of arsing about trying to fix this problem after setting 120 pages, I thought I'd finally solved this by stopping using my FontBase font manager, removing all the Montserrat font versions and reinstalling them to system fonts and trying again for the upteenth time. So I started the other doc. But it's back again. The problem is, every time I do this reinstalling fonts process, the document seems to interpret the fonts as new fonts, substituting the old, then I have to go through and set everything again. Like hundreds of Latin names in italic in the body copy I will have to go through and manually do again and again, every time it happens. And many more issues besides will need to be addressed again. This is a real problem. I see someone else has it to - I commented on that thread days back but there's no response on there. This is Windows 10 Pro, Montserrat (Google font) - marked as fully embeddable. I tried turning off the subset option on exports dozens of times and it makes no difference. It's extended this job into days more than it should have been. I really like what you're trying to do with this suite of software but please please please get this sorted - people are trying to produce pro documents for print but we're falling at the last hurdle. It's pretty crashy too but the recovery so far has been reasonably good. Plenty of other niggles with things but the PDF export thing really really needs sorting though. Please can somebody look into this urgently?
  21. Incorrect display of text on placed PDF when numbers are set proportionally
  22. When I try to use the print function from menu or from shortcut cmd+p, I first noticed this when, I open a pdf file, and then try to print it, publisher 1.8.3 crashes. Even after saving as a publisher type file *.afpub, crashes after the file is saved as publisher type. I have noticed this is now happening with all documents, even those created in publisher. The work around, I have been using is to export as a pdf, and then open in another PDF reader like Preview or Acrobat, from which I can print. I'd be happy to test any patches or fixes. d System iMac13,1 i7, 3.09 16 GB 500GB Samsung MacOS 10.13.6 (17G4015) Publisher 1.8.3
  23. In Acrobat, it's shown correctly. mask_test x4.pdf mask_test.ai
  24. I am having to wait at least 15-20 seconds for a PDF to open in 1.9.1. Is there a reason which this is happening? This was never an issue before in 1.8.5. I should add that the files are from an ISO of a CD-ROM which I mount and simply open them as normal.
  25. Bleed Inner 0 Outer 0.125 Top 0.125 Bottom 0.125 When exporting to PDF, the inner edges look all screwed up. It's taking graphics from right side inner and putting it in left side inner and graphics from left side into right side. Just place an image on right page to the inner edge and export to PDF, then look at the left page and right page.
