Hey! I am working on a map project and am trying to map different routes, which overlap to some extent. I created the routes from gpx files with a gis software and exported them as vector data for further use in affinity. Is there a clever workflow to show all the overlapping routes in a shifted but parallel way without editing all the vertices of the lines manually? The picture shows a quick manual edit of two routes and hopefully shows what the problem is I'm sturgglin with. The routes overlap and I am trying to show both. Any help is appreciated! Greetings

Hello. I ensured to search this issue as much as I could so that I wouldn't create a duplicate. Since the last time this problem was reported in the Pre 1.10 subforum and we are in 1.10.5 now, I felt this was the right place. Windows 10 Version 1.10.5.1342 As the title suggests, this is a problem with Affinity Designer Boolean Operations, primarily the Divide operation and I've found something that I feel wasn't touched on in the previous reporting. Consider image below, divide works as you would expect. Works perfectly, with each circle only overlapping each other once. Now consider what happens when the left and right circle is already overlapped, and the top circle gets overlapped IN the overlap of the left and right (confusing ish), I've used a red arrow to show where: You can see in the layer panel that the line in between the overlap that already exists, now just has points instead of being a solid line: Now showing with all the shapes separated to show the points: Now I will show my discovery. The longer the line in the overlap, the more points it will create. As if proportional to the amount of space within an overlap. If I were to do it closer to the top or the bottom of the overlap, it would only generate 2-3 points. But watch what happens when I increase the side of the line within the overlap, the first image being the before operation and the line shown at the red arrow: And now look at how many points... I was excited to use this software as it had shown a lot of promise in replacing Adobe for me. I couldn't justify spending so much on CC and Affinity looked solid. So far it had been. But it came time to do some shape building to create a logo using a bunch of circles (similar to how the Twitter logo was created) and I ran into this problem. I've tried this both with Hardware Acceleration turned on (by default) and with it turned off just in case. I secretly am hoping that I've just done something wrong and this can be sorted much sooner so I can get back to enjoying using Affinity products. =] Another thing to note: Intersect operation causes a single layer of curves to appear, but nothing is in it; Xor operation adds a few straight lines with some of the ellipses but combines all ellipses into a single curves layer shape, so those aren't working correctly either with so many overlaps. I had a sudden panic moment thinking that this 'could' be intended behaviour, but then I found this: https://affinityspotlight.com/article/creating-compound-shape-variants-using-boolean-operations/ which even shows an example of 4 ellipses being used and it separating properly. =] Note: I'm assuming Photo and Designer have the same logic, because I tried to replicate this in Affinity Photo and the same thing happens via Layer > Geometry. (Which then lead me to another problem where if Designer is open, Photo won't open at the same time, and if Photo is open, Designer won't open. Both programs show the splash screen, loads fonts...and then just silently closes; did I break everything!?) I should stop now before I break something else... - Shane Avery

Hello, Maybe a newbie question! I created a design in Affinity Publisher and exported all pages > PDF. When I view the PDF, the images that overlap to adjacent pages are not aligned properly, they are shifted/doubled. This makes me worry that when I send this document to the printer, it will have the desired result. Does this happen because of a bleed margin? Please advise. Affinity Publisher Problem #0001.pdf

Hello, I have upgraded to affinity photo and designer 1.7 from 1.6 and I am having a problem loading pdf files created via print "save as pdf" in 3 different web browsers, when opening it reads the fonts correctly but some of the text is over lapping in the text box and the only way to fix this is to copy the text in to notepad and the copy and paste back to the text box, this fixes the overlap. Has the new pdf import/load got some setting i am unaware of or is that a unknown fault with both programs. I can supply screen shots or files as required. Regards Chris

Hey guys, I'm trying to divide (or something) the shapes in the attached example. Basically I wanna cut the dark red shape from the black shape, so that the black shape will have an empty circle where the dark red circle is. How do I do that? I tried divide, but that only works the way I want it to only if the shapes don't overlap completely. Thanks divide-test.afdesign

Hey everyone, I've been trying to do more of my regular workflow in Designer and get away from Illustrator as much as possible - can someone point me to a tutorial or explain to me how this task is accomplished in Designer? In Illustrator, I trace over my original sketch layer with strokes that purposefully overlap each other. When completed, I select them all together and expand them to fills and then use the "live paint"option to convert them to separate pieces that begin and end where they overlap - so then I can deselect and use the white arrow tool to click on each overlapping piece I don't want and delete. I included a picture from Illustrator showing the overlapping technique and the individualized pieces. Im not sure what to call this technique, so its been hard to look up - any help is appreciated! thank you! Mat

Affinity Designer - I think I just pressed a toggle button and now I can't figure out how to not show my vector overlapping?!? It's late, so this is probably extremely simple....

Hello! I'm quite new to Affinity Designer and when I was trying to create something, and stumbled across this which I didn't understand. I've recreated it simply to show you. When I tried to subtract two objects (1), by selecting them both (2) and clicking the subtract button, it ended up like (3). I now understand why it does this, but was wondering if there is a way to make it look more like (4). I made (4) badly to show you what it might look like, but don't know how I would do it properlly, I guess is what I mean. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks, Dan

For example, if i was doing a ring around a planet like saturn, how would i make part of that ring go behind the planet, and the other part come in front to give it a realistic 3D effect.
