  1. Hi! I am new to Affinity Designer and already have searched the internet to find an answer. The Info I found is that the measurement tool was planned years ago, but nothing to measurements in the newest release. Is there any way to measure the length of a (curved) line in the newest version? I am interested in an exact measurement in physical units (mm). Thanks!
  2. hi there, how to get the exact length of a curve or the circumference of a circle in affinity designer?
  3. Hi, this bug happens constantly with the following file and new blank documents. IMG_5523.afdesign 1) I open a JPG in Designer -> save as .afdesign 2) Use measurement tool and measure a distance A/B in pixels 3) Open "set scale" dialog -> enter "4.5m" and click "Anwenden" The dialog closes -> the widget now shows the computed distance in Meters -> Designer freezes The app does not recover. If i try to close the app via taskbar -> "Fenster schließen" i get the Save dialog but can't click any of the three buttons. The dialog is also freezed - can't click or move it. Have to force shutdown via the taskmanager: This error happens in 100% of all tests. Regardless of hardware acceleration on or off. EDIT I found this weird context 1) If i try this workflow with a fresh blank DIN A4 document (file -> new -> preset print, DIN A4 document unit Millimeter) there is no crash. Can use the tool after setting the scale to "4.5m" and continue work. Tool now shows distances in calculated scale and Meters. Document and Scale units are both metric blank-test-a4-print.afdesign 2) Now in the existing document I change the document unit settings from Millimeter to Pixel After that i do the above workflow again: measurement tool, measure A/B, set scale -> OK -> Designer freezes Have to force shutdown Designer via windows task manager. 3) The same crash appears even without changing the document units to pixel. It's enough to set the the scale units to Pixel when the document units differ (Millimeters): Conclusion: the whole scale units conversion (Pixel to Meters or vice versa) breaks the app.
  4. Hi there, I'm new to the forum and hope that everyone is doing well. I have a question in regards to dynamic guides in Affinity Designer. As I looked around on YouTube searching for a guide on how to create vector brushes in Affinity Designer I came across the following tutorial: After a straight line is created with the pen tool, at the 1:35 mark it shows nodes being added with the node tool and you can see pixel measurement displayed of how far apart consecutive new node is from the existing nodes. I'm using the latest version of Affinity Designer for Windows and snapping is working but no measurement gets displayed. Only when I place the nodes on the line first, then select one with the node tool and drag any of them on the line does the measurement display. But according to the video this should also happen when you just hover the mouse over the line with the node tool selected prior to placing a node. What am I missing? Thanks in advance, Tom
  5. Hi, I'd like to only use the real metric units, everywhere. Subdivided by 10ths — see upper edge of wooden ruler. Publisher subdivides metric rulers by halves like you would do in your medieval unit of measurement — on the wooden ruler's lower edge. Switching from mm to cm to m or zooming in shows the madness. A proper design application's ruler would go 0 - 1 - 2 0 - 0.1 - 0.2 0 - 0.01 - 0.02 When I say everywhere, I also mean font sizes. In the age of sharp printers and screens, I really don't care about standard lead letter sizes. Call me a peasant if you like.
  6. I'm following an Affinity Designer tutorial on youtube. As you can see on the image below (extracted from the video), You can see 2 green lines of 88.6 pixels showing to help equally distancing objects from the center of the documents. I have the latest version of Affinity Designer (1.8.3.641), and these lines are not showing up. Is there an option or keyboard key for that?
  7. Two related requests: 1. It would be nice to be able to read measurements using the Measurement tool without having to zoom in to 1600% all the time. 2. It would also be nice to have measurements be visible on blue objects. Sketch does this very, very well. Attached is a screeenshot of the same objects at 100% in both apps with measurements displayed using the default measurement tools (Option-hold in Sketch, CMD-hold in Affinity Designer). I recolored the background in the AD for a second screenshot to highlight that the text on measurements should probably change when the background is near the same blue as the default font color.
  8. Hi Team, I also use AD to draft clothing patterns and other work where measurement is of supreme importance and work has to be precise. Features that will help with this are missing in AD. I'm sure you are adding and will keep adding features; I would realllllly appreciate it if you could bring these features to AD soon. I'm dependent on it to use them for my work and it's absolutely necessary. Following are some scenarios and features that I think will help; 1) Using pen tool, when I click a point and move my mouse/cursor etc, I want to know the measurement of how far I'm going; so I'll know when to stop and click my next point. Similar to how some of the dynamic guides work. 2) When I select a series of nodes on a path, I want to know the length of that curve or line. Without these two, for me it's not efficient to work in AD and is too time consuming to get the results I want..Hope to see these in AD updates soon..Thank you very much!
  9. Sorry if this has been raised before. The default setting for ruler measurements in both Photo and Designer is pixels, presumably because the majority use that. However I mainly work in cms and it drives me round the bend have to change the setting each time I open a file. Please could a future update include the ability to set your own default measurement unit in Preferences?
  10. Very necessary tool to indicate the size of the objects, similar to CorelDraw. As well as panels with information about the geometry of the current object: area, perimeter, curve length, etc.
  11. I have previously requested this for Designer and Photo, but accepted that pixels/points was possibly adequate for most folks' needs. But I'm aghast that Publisher does not support Pica & Points as a measurement standard. Please implement this in your measurement engine! I understand that picas may not be used in Europe, but in North America it's a very useful standard. Points alone is not enough. And, thanks for the public beta release!
  12. Hello, Just noticed measuring text while moving an object is hardly legible - could the measurement labelling be somehow adjusted? i.e. size, font, color, style ?
  13. Would be great to have an OFFSET PATH feature , like Illustrator has, to reduce or enlarge an object. This is particularly hand on more complex objects when trying to resize in uniform. If we have something like this for desginer please let me know. Also something like CADTOOLS would be awesome. I am create a lot of graphics that go straight to a printer, and the measurement tools that CADTOOLS have are fast and easy to add dimensions to each piece of art on a artboard. Saves alot of time typing it in, and there is not mistaking size of art for the printer. Thanks Gary
  14. First off, I love your app, I made the change from Graphic which was recently purchases from Autodesk and I was having issues with the SVG exporting properly for my CNC machine. I do a lot of woodworking for customers and for my YouTube channel. I would love to use Affinity to make plans for folks to buy but what's holding me back is the way that measurements work. I love that you have snapping and measurements but I would love to have a way to move those to a layer so I can export the image for these plans. Thanks for all that you do, Zach Manring www.southernginger.com
  15. Hopefully, an illustration is also worth a thousand words: For any drawing used to construct or build an actual object: furniture specs, house floor plans, fences, back splash tile design, cabinetry, etc. I've used Intaglio for years specifically because it had a line dimension feature. Thank you for Designer and Photo. Waiting impatiently for Publisher. Then I'm free of you-know-who!
  16. I'm switching from Sketch and still getting used to Affinity Designer. I wonder if there's an inspector panel that shows the dimensions & positions of the selected objects? Thanks inspector in Sketch:
  17. Hello, creative people! I'm a science professor (Physics and Math, mostly) and I'm working at some electronic educational materials for my students. When I found about vector graphics and AD, it was a game changer for me. I'm not by any means an artistic person, I don't draw, paint or whatever, but I use AD for science illustrations (inclines, pulleys, circuits, geometric shapes). I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but my feature request is a small detail that I find useful for science illustrations. I would like it to have a special tool for displaying measurements and some other labels. For example, if I draw an incline, to be able to show its measurements or if I have a problem with, say, a football field or a rectangle, to quickly add its measurements. And not only the (measurement) label, but also the specific arrows, like on the sidelines of the picture in the attachment. Also, should I (or any of you) have any more ideas for useful features for scientific illustrations, I'll surely come back. Thank you for your time and the great products! EDIT: I'm sorry, for some reason, the attachment doesn't display as it should. It's this picture: http://www.volleyball-rules.net/images/volleyball_court_dimensions.jpg
  18. I know how to bring up the Measurement guides by holding CMD with an object selected. However, at 100% this is fairly useless for objects near one another, as the label font is microscopic (see attached.) How can I make it so I can actually read the text without needing to zoom in to ~1200% every time? Thanks!
  19. I cannot yet find a way to size a shape exactly. Is there a transform panel or so like in Illustrator where I can type in sizes like 5" or 32 mm?
  20. Hello, I have to wonder, is there an measure tool in Affinity Photo? I'm not able to find it anywhere in the tools and this is pretty needed feature I think.
