  1. I used a black brush in the mask layer, but I couldn't completely remove the contents of the mask, and the transparency setting of the brush was fine. Is there a problem with my other settings? Or is it a software bug?
  2. Hi all, On the 8th December 2021 I found out that I cannot use any type of brushes on mask layers. Before this I had no problem in using the brushes on the mask layers. I made a Repair of the program, the issue is still present. Any tips? Thx
  3. How can i use the undo brush non destructively ? Is it somehow possible with masks? What i want is a layer/masklayer i can blend in and out only with the changes of the undo brush.
  4. Hi there, this may be less of a bug but a hardware problem but I want to mention it anyway. With Affinity Photo 1.9, exporting an image seems to be incredibly slow with liquify masks applied. The two devices I have and I have tried with are: iMac mid2011 21" quad 2,5GHz i5 16GB RAM with High Sierra 10.13.6 (yes, its incredibly old and I am working on replacing it. But its still my main device for now and it runs incredibly smooth with everything). MacBook Pro start2015 13" dual2,9GHz i5 8GB RAM with Catalina 10.15.7 (not really a workhorse but my little pal in the field). Exporting images without liquify masks is still fast as ever but as soon the smallest change with a liquify mask is applied the CPU runs on max for two or three minutes to export the image. Does someone else has experienced the same? Since its a very new feature I do somewhat hope that there is a more efficient way to implement that feature without requiring unusual more hardware specs.
  5. Hi All, Sorry, I'm not 100% sure how to properly word this, as I've not nailed down exactly what causes this to occur, but I've had a persistent albeit random issue trying to paint masks. Eventually, after doing a fair mount of painting/switching back and forth between black/white using the keyboard shortcut something happens and AP gets 'stuck'. Once the issue starts, white and black do the same thing and resetting the colors does not fix the issue. If they are stuck in 'hide mode' both colors hide and vice versa. I can save and restart, but the issue persists. However, sometimes, if I manually set the color to white/black the problem goes away, but that is not a guaranteed fix. I did just find that if I set both colors to nothing (red line though the circle) then manually change the slider for each color, one to white and one to black, it seemed to fix the issue. I'm fairly sure I've done that before and it did not fix the issue, but it's late and my memory is slipping. Hopefully someone else can replicate the issue, or tell me why it's happening, and how to never let it happen again System: Window 10 Pro: Version 2004, Build 19041.508 Affinity Photo: 1.8.5.703
  6. Hi, This is my first post and I'm a novice with Affinity Photo. I've watched all the tutorials to do with editing selections and layers, but can't seem to make the app do what I want it to. It's fairly simple and must be possible, I'm just not getting it! I have a .jpg that has been produced from a stacking program, Sequator. It contains 2 main elements, the foreground and the night sky, including the Milky Way. I want to blow the highlights and whites UP in the sky (without affecting the foreground) and reduce the highlights and whites DOWN in the foreground (without affecting the sky) - sounds simple, but I have spent hours trying to make it work and got nowhere! Please help!!
  7. Hello, i'm a new user of Affinity Suite (Affinity Photo is used in this case), but i'm already a Photoshop user for almost 10 years for retouching photo. I'm already aware that different software will have a slightly different workflow, and i'm still trying to adjust my set of PS workflow to the Affinity Photo. I already searching on the forum about this problem i'm encountering now, and i only found that it is already possible to have a Group of Adjustment Layer with only one mask (to replicate clipping adjustment layer to below feature in PS), but i have different result between these two workflow that i'm already tried. I just want to ask, is it the expected behaviour in AP, or is it a bug? Or if there is a mistake in my approach/setup, the mask in both setup is identical BTW. I hope the image that i'm attach is clear enough to show what i'm trying to ask. I'm still trying and prefer to get the second setup right because it make adjustment image more simple and i'm only have to deal with one mask for a group of adjustment. And pardon me for my messy English because it is not my main language. Thank you in advance 🙏
  8. On the desktop version of Photo for Mac (High Sierra) I created a mask for an image layer. When I attempt to select the mask layer it also selects the parent image layer along with the child mask layer. I'm unable to select only the mask layer. As such, when I attempt to paint on the mask layer, it paints on the image layer, thereby ruining it. I imported the same project file into the iPad version of Photo, where it works just fine and I can select only the mask layer and thereby paint only on the mask layer without affecting the parent image layer. When I import the same file back into the desktop version, the issue persists. I also tried this with a different file and the problem is exactly the same. So the problem seems to be reproducible.
  9. Hello, I'm not entirely sure if this is a bug or if I'm doing something wrong but I can't seem to figure it out. Sorry in case I'm just being a idiot here What is your operating system and version: Windows Version 1909 (Build 18363.720) What happened for you (and what you expected to happen): If I want to cut out a motive, like for example the astronaut in the picture, with a mask layer the background won't go away completely. Instead there is this weird grey there which I have to erase with the eraser tool. I expect to see straight to the layer below ( In this example it would be the default white background). Provide a recipe for creating the problem (step-by-step what you did).: 1. Take a picture with an object you want to cut out. 2. create a mask layer. 3. set brush to white. 4. go around the object. ( I used the fil tool afterwards to color the rest of the background white, it's the same if I use the brush for the rest). 5. You have the grey color that you have to remove through the eraser tool. Any unusual hardware (like tablets or external monitors or drives that may affect things) or relevant other applications like font managers or display managers.: I have a Laptop. I use the AOC Agon AG271QG as an external Display. The Logitech Hero G502 mouse. The Massdrop ALT Keyboard and a BlueYeti Microphone. For whatever reason that might be relevant. Did this same thing used to work and if so have you changed anything recently? (software or hardware) No on both questions. Thanks for reading! astronaut.afdesign
  10. Hey y'all! Ever since the update to 1.8 the way the opacity slider acts on mask layers changed. I can try to explain it using words, but I made some screenshots to show you what changed. As you can see in the last two panes; the way the opacity slider behaved in the new and old version changed completely. Now, I now that applying different shades of gray on the mask can achieve the same thing (which I used to make this example) but I loved how the slider worked in the previous version. Especially when using various degrees of grey on the mask. With the slider you controlled the entire mask. Anyone know how to fix it or a workaround? Or should I hope it'll be patched in the next update? Thanks!
  11. With this recent update the ability to "Alt+Mask layer" within a group has changed. Previously, I would be able to create a layer which allows me to brighten sections, such as the eyes of an animal. Now everytime I do the same process, it goes transparent. Any help is greatly appreciated :)
  12. This one I came across by accident. Whilst working on a page, by mistake I dragged an image onto a master page layer. Didn't noticed until after a while. As is the case with a master page layer, the items on it ae locked so couldn't just delete it. The mask also ins't on the actual master page, just on the layer representing the master page. It's replicable for me: - Open APub - create blank new document - on the first page (not the master page itself) add a mask to the (Master A) layer by clicking on the mask icon in the layers window - open the (Master A) layer and right-click on the mask - select Release Mask from the menu That results in a crash each time here. in v1.7.0.283 Bert Affinity Publisher Beta_2019-04-04-150809_Bowser.crash
  13. I'm just trying to use a mask to replace the background of my photo. I add the mask and a background layer. I've tried a selection to mask and just a blank mask. But when I try to use the brush to adjust the mask, there is no change. I've tried going from all black and using a white brush and the opposite, all white with a black brush. No response. I'm so frustrated. I'm sure it must be user error, but I cannot figure out what I'm missing. Thank you in advance for your time and help! Update: Using the brush on a regular layer doesn't do anything either, so I must have a weird brush setting going. Solution: Turn off "Protect Alpha."
  14. Help, I am a newbie with Affinity. I have a rendered picture and a a very precise mask picture generated by a render engine. Both are in .PNG format. I'd like to use the mask file to mask out the black background and make the background transparent on the picture image so that I can overlay the image onto a new scene file? Can someone help me with step by step procedures? Thank you very much for any help provided.
  15. I want to matting area manually so I turn matte edges off and draw matte brush by my self but nothing happen to photo. When I draw matte brush, Red mark appear ,"Refine selection" loading appear but nothing happen. Matte brush work when Matte edges turn on, but I want to matte only some area. Did I done something wrong?
  16. Hello. I think that it might be a cool feature of the "haze removal" to create a layer's mask, instead of modifying the layer content. I assume that this plugin does scene depth estimation. I so, it should be possible to generate mask with levels corresponding to the estimation results. This mask could be use with levels, curves and other tools (or other bitmap layers). Regards. BitPC
  17. Hello, when i try to add a layer mask to a layer in Affinity Photo on the mac, the layer mask will appear over the selected layer and i have to drag it on to the layer. i think that this is not the correct behavior of the add mask button? is there any solution?
  18. I would like to request that if I want to add a mask layer that it does a couple things automatically considering this is a conventional workflow for most: 1. When I select a layer to add an empty reveal all mask I would want it to be auto-selected and ready to paint on. 2. Change brush color swatches to be black and white, but black to start since I created a reveal all mask in the step before.
  19. Howdy friends, I've run into a bit of an issue and I'm hoping (praying) somebody can help me figure this out... I've attempted to use the mask layer on text to bring out part of the background picture. I've succeeded in doing this on (2) pictures, but on the third, I must've hit something -- fat thumbs -- as the mask is just erasing my text. Even when I delete the text, start over, and try to mask layer, it vanishes. When I copy/paste other text/mask layers from previous pictures, it still vanishes. When I try to do this on a completely different artboard, it vanishes. I'm horribly confused by this and have tried to fix it for the past 45 min. with no such luck. Please help?!
  20. The new beta seems really stable. Loving it! I find, frustratingly, that sometimes the hardest things to figure out in Affinity are the simplest ones. Which leaves me asking very elementary questions that I feel I should be able to solve for myself. Embarrassing. So anyway here goes. 1) How do I apply an adjustment (Levels in this case) to a mask layer so as to adjust only the mask layer and not the pixel layer to which is attached? I have tried every level of nesting and grouping I can think of, and have searched everywhere seemingly relevant in Help, but cannot achieve this simple thing. It's very frustrating ....... 2) Can I suppress bounding boxes and view (for example the fine adjustment of a layer FX) without the visual distraction of the bounding box. On very small objects this would be really helpful. 3) And, on the subject of layer FX, can I convert layer FX to layers? This is a great application. One day I'll get there ............. ;)
  21. Hi everyone, I'm totally new to graphic design. I've been working on a portrait for a couple of days, teaching myself the basics of AD as I go. Currently I'm trying to create a pixel layer so that I can use the pixel brush to add some highlights onto my subject's face. I have already used this method once to add some shading, which went well. However, when I now go to do the same thing for highlights, the indicator showing where my brushing will be applied appears to have a tracer circle that follows the main circle around, and when I try to add the highlight color, instead the brush tool removes the original fill color from the object that I am trying to highlight (please see attached screenshot). Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong, or help me figure out how to fix this? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Have a great day! Ryan
  22. Hello everyone. I am new to Affinity so I apologise if the question has already been answered. My render software produces images/renders as well as alpha channels (black and white raster graphics). How do I copy an alpha channel into an empty mask layer? Thank you for your help Best regards Soundtraveller
