  1. How do I snap lines together? I want to avoid gaps and overlays. I also want to be able to pull corners over without the whole triangle moving. For example the bottom triangle on the right hand side of it has white area I would like to fill all the way up to the corner.
  2. Hello. In "DrawPlusX8" using the "spiral" blank, copying it several times, combining objects and applying the Calligraphic line, I could position the object at a certain angle to get some kind of "galaxy". All the lines after applying the effects in this version are as if separately layered on each other and when turning turns out to be a 3D multilayer model. In "DrawPlusX8" there is a line view. "Calligraphic line" has the setting "Calligraphy Angle", also there are brushes that place textures vertically relative to the plane (for example, "grass"), though these brushes do not have an angle setting like "calligraphic line". In “Affinity Designer”, having done this, I get that all the lines are mixed into a mess on one plane and the effects only aggravate it, and the brush does not have the Calligraphic Line tool with an angle setting (not by pressing or speed) and many other brushes with a similar vertical location but without adjusting the angle. Will such features be implemented in “Affinity Designer”? Can you help with advice on how to do it correctly in “Affinity Designer”? Maybe my actions by analogy as in "DrawPlusX8" are wrong? Thanks a lot in advance. I apologize for my English, the electronic translator translated. For example, I will attach a video file in which I try to create the same “galaxy” effect from the beginning in “DrawPlusX8” and then in “Affinity Designer”. 3.1.mp4
  3. I'm trying to recreate a form for school registration, how can I create dotted lines or the underline for forms in publisher? Similar to how it's done in InDesign in the following links.
  4. Hi. New on AD. I opened a few times, but still trying to find my way (too long on AI). I exported a 2D drawing from Rhino as a PDF (since AI is not supported). I would like to assign different thicknesses to some of the lines of my drawing. The drawing lines are not joined in Rhino. When I open the PDF in AD the sketch looks to be all merged (using black arrow). Using the white arrow I just have too many nodes in every line to select them one by one, not even sure if this is the way. I would like to ask for help in this matter. Kind regards ,
  5. Hi I have been trying to use the Selection Brush tool, to put an object from a photo i have taken, on to a white background. But after pressing "refine" and putting the white background, som square lines seem to appear (Some times they are white, other times they are black). It has happened before when using it and i can´t seem to make them disappear. It is possible for me to erase the lines with the erase brush tool, but it takes too much time to do every time. What am i doing wrong, and how can i remove them? Best regards, Emma.
  6. Hello. Can you guys tell me why those vector brush lines are jagged? No matter what document size, DPI and etc. the problem is still the same. I've also tried to change GPU, open it on different computers and monitors... When zooming in vector lines looks better though... And also while opening on another computer project colors messed up for a while and then fixed itself by opening a project for like a third time or something like that. Am I missing something?
  7. I now sit on a project for 10 minutes and wait for the Affinity Designer to convert the selected objects into lines, It only uses 1 core of my CPU. AD need more Multithreading for this art of tasks.
  8. The problem is that the line has a rectangular (or square also, I suppose) "shape" assigned to it with handles. The line follows a vertical or horizontal side of this shape. Once the line is rotated the line no longer follows the vertical or horizontal side of the "shape", it now goes from corner-to-corner which changes it's length, and requires that one also has to rotate it to find the new angle to make it "90 degrees". This happens when you use the transform panel and the Top Menu > Layer > Transform > Rotate Right command.
  9. Hi Affinity community. I have 2 rectangles no stroke, I sheared them, then, flipped them, joined or aligned them to make a roof like element. But there is a line down the middle. I've done the same thing in Fireworks and it worked without producing the line. Even though it's zoomed in, I noticed it before I zoomed. It was worse in Designer but after clicking the View Mode buttons on and off it got better but not right. I've attached an image showing the 2 different results, there is 2 screenshots from each app to show they are 2 objects being joined. I'm trying to do more stuff in Designer but this type of thing slows the transition to where I resort back to Fireworks. Is this the same issue as is posted in these posts? Lines between (snapped) objects in editor - terrible quality at png Can someone explain why I get these thin lines? Thanks in advance for any help.
  10. Hello everyone! I recently discovered the Affinity Softwares and i'm currently testing them with a lot o interest. Can someone help me with some small issues ? 1 - In Affinity Photo, can i see object outside the canvas, like i can in Designer ? ( didn't find any view modes or clip to canvar there ) 2 - Can i remove the lines in selections ? ( like in photoshop ) Thanks a lot!
  11. This is a response to a question by user SunRiseMoon on July 02. 2019. A quick basic drawing lesson. As of this writing, shapes in Affinity designer have 2 attributes, the stroke and fill. Those are defined by vector curve(s). To be filled, those curves can be either open or closed, as long as they surround a 2D area. But if they are open, any "boolean" operation, such as add or divide, will close the curves between the end point of each. This often produces unusable shapes. In Affinity, shapes ar made frome a series of nodes, each one connecting to only those adjacent in the series. The nodes cannot connect to more than 2 other nodes. There is no branching of a curve object. In order to get filled areas of color, if the shape is to be made from the curves that are already there, the curves must be selected, and thru the node tool, joined, and then closed. Sometimes one may need to duplicate existing curves, and cut out sections w. the node tool. These can then be used to create an area that meets shapes that are already there. *** In the owl face example, various strokes were given varying thicknesses by manipulating the pressure curve. Those were "expanded," and added together to form ink like strokes. 3 of the original vector strokes were closed, and so those pen lines could have a fill assigned to them, and for smooth continuous areas of color. Other lines were unclosed shapes positioned either above of below the closed shapes. When the shapes were filled, most were below in the layer hierarchy, and so were hidded by the fill. I selected the "beak" line. See the copies go thru these steps. The line is closed. The closing line is extended upwards for a more natural appearance. A fill is assigned, and the stroke set to "none." the unclosed curve is then matched to the filled curves position, and given a varying line weight. At a reduced size, the beak group was placed over the face. OwlHeadStart.afdesign
  12. Hello Affinity Photo development team, I'm not sure if this counts more as a bug report? Or as a feature request. There is a problem with Affinity Photo free-hand brush lines. When drawing, zoomed out or even zoomed in to 100% - brush lines and pixel tool lines zig-zag. Even though my hand doesn't shake - the lines produced have zig-zags. This is not due to the brush shape, or the spacing. Any brush shape, or 1% spacing still produces the same problem. I am not experiencing this problem on other programs - like Photoshop, Corel Painter, etc. On these programs, freehand lines remain accurate (smooth). The solution shouldn't be the stabilizer. The problem with the stabilizer - if you are a painter/artist - is that you want to paint quickly, with free-hand strokes. You don't want to paint with a line-trailing rope... The stabilizer is not good for artists. If your hands don't shake, you shouldn't need to use the stabilizer. Maybe the problem has to do with tablet coordinate mapping? Maybe there is something off in the mapping? I've experienced this problem in another program. A Japanese program called "OpenCanvas" - which has 2 options for tablet mapping. One is called "OS Coordinates" (which produces zig-zag lines) The other option is "Tablet Coordinates" (this one works perfectly - lines are stable when zoomed out or zoomed in. Strokes are super smooth - with NO need for a stabilizer. I've used a brand new 2019 Wacom Intuos Pro tablet, also used an Wacom Intuos Pro 3, and also a Wacom Cintiq 22HD. All tablets produce the same zig-zag lines. On other programs - strokes are very smooth. Maybe this is something that others have seen too? As a painter, this problem is a deal-breaker. But Affinity Photo is a fantastic program, with a great brush engine. It seems like something that would really be worth fixing.. A critical fix for painters and artists who would like to use Affinity Photo. Thank you immensely for viewing this issue and feature request.
  13. Basically, I'm fairly new to Affinity Designers and recently got a drawing tablet. When I use a mouse to use the vector brush tool it is not shifted/wobbly. But, when I draw the same line with my VEIKK A30 drawing tablet it is all wobbly and shaky. I know I don't have the stabilizer on but, I don't like the way it functions. (I know that's how stabilizers work and are behind the point of your pen but, why are they straight when drawn with the mouse.) Below, is a screenshot I took as an example. You can see the pen settings above in the bar so, please if you see anything wrong point it out. I don't know what I'm doing wrong but, I see numerous videos of Affinity Designer on YouTube where they are drawing straight lines without the stabilizer on...
  14. When two or more shapes are alligned (from anchor to anchor), and these shapes have no stroke, it results in a transparent edge instead of no edge. See Example. Each of the triangles here are perfectly alligned from point to point, which should leave no space between shapes. The stroke is set to no colour, and the weight set to none, so I would imagine that the 'fill' should take up 100% of each shape. However, it seems that the stroke (which shouldnt exist), stil takes up a fraction of the shape, and allows the background to show through ever so slightly. The obvious way to get around this is to slightly overlap each shape - as you can see, there are quite a lot in the above, so this would be impractical. Is there any obvious way to get around this? Apologies, this question has probably been asked before, but I was finding it dificult converting this question to a searchable term.
  15. Hi, Is it possible to choose different end types for my lines. I am doing measurement lines and I can not find how to choose an arrow?
  16. Greetings, Can someone please help me with creating a specific type of cartographic line symbol (picture included)? The issue is that the curves will be be have asymmetrical stroke weight on top and bottom so it's not as simple as crating overlapping curves of different weights and colors. I tried by converting the stroke to a shape using Layer > Expand Stroke and them to delete the lines at the caps, thus leaving two lines that run perfectly "parallel" which I can edit individually. The issue is that you cannot delete a the end caps as such. Perhaps there is another method someone can teach me? (See attached picture) Thanks ahead of time for the help!
  17. When I zoom out the canvas in both AD and AP I get wavy lines when using the brush tool, not super noticeable but still annoying. But when I zoom in the canvas the lines don't seem to have this problemas. I also tested in Clip Studio but didn't get any wavyness. I use a Cintiq. Also I have been experiencing Lag.
  18. Hi ! Is there a way to display automatic guiding lines when moving a text/image/object to align it with other blocks ? Thanks
  19. Hello, I have been using Designer for almost two month successfully. However, I am facing a pretty strange problem today... I can create or modify objects, but I am unable to get dotted lines anymore... If I select a line, and choose a dotted line style in the panel, it doesn't seem to have any effet. Has anyone seen this problem before ? And more importantly does anyone knows how to solve it ? Thanks !
  20. Hello, dear developers. First of all - I like your program, it is more comfortable than illustrator or Corel draw. But thing is - Designer doesn't have the required functionality to normally offset and expand strokes, while illustrator and Corel draw do. I wanted to design a logo with "luminescence" effect - like soft glow - by outlining, offsetting and expanding strokes. With illustrator I could do it, while in Affinity Designer I can't. I tried "outline" effects, but then I discovered that I just can't expand it. I probably could create something "resembling" to desirable effect, but that is not the solution. I didn't`t notice this instruments in 1.7 either. So please - add this functionality to 1.7 or 1.8 update - while it`s a small detail, but for some projects its crucial. And I`m not the only one asking about this - there are some related topics on this forum asking about the same. Aaaaaand - do something with your "expanding stroke" - it`s horrible! Although a bit better in 1.7 update, but still not appropriate! Many programs (illustrator, Inkscape, Corel Draw, even Sketch!) can do this much better! I`m using Affinity Designer 1.6.5 on Mac OS Mojave (also used on Sierra). Thanks for your work and cannot wait to see this functionality in update
  21. Hi, I have been using Graphic and would like to switch to Affinity. I use it to design floorpans for basketball and various athletic courts. Is there a line tool that shows dimensions as you draw and displays that information on the drawing? Is there a radius tool I could use for the three point lines? Can the grid layout be in feet and inches? See attached pdf. Thanks, Sean Untitled.pdf
  22. I'm used to the magic of InDesign, but working with Affinity Publisher is my hopeful replacement of this good, but overpriced software. Thanks so much for the BETA testing opportunity. Here's a wishlist and some glitches I've encountered: ● HYPERLINKS: Add the option to include hyperlinks on any text (including when it's saved to curves. (For example, I want to hyperlink /myname on my resume to www.linkedin.com/myname, but can’t, and don’t want to waste the visual space adding the entire link when an icon will do) ● BULLET STYLES: Setting up bullet styles could be easier. In general, I want a small indent on the text after my bullets, and the continuing text on the next line, and thereafter to be indented the same as the first line (pretty standard). Currently, this requires putting in a bullet, changing the Tabstop value, then scrolling up to the Spacing menu and putting in a left indent, which for some reason automatically changes the first line indent, which I then have to change back to zero. I think it would be better if A) changing the left indent doesn’t automatically change the first line indent - really no menu change should automatically change another menu item, IMO. B) The bullet automatically has a more standard indenting default, which people can adjust if they like. I think it’s unlikely that a first line only indent on a bulleted list is anyone’s preference. ● INSERT IMAGES IN TEXT BOX: I’d like to be able to insert an image inside a text box (ie. Where the bottom of the image is aligned with the line of the bottom of the type on a line as the default, but this could be changed, and/or insert an image in a table and have text flow around it. Right now, I can’t figure out if there’s a way to do this. ● SCREEN SPACE / INTERFACE IMPROVEMENTS: The Pages and Assets menu - on a small laptop screen, this is taking a lot of space that could be better used for viewing your design. I’d like to be able to shrink the menu to half the width, or close it completely. There’s a lot of wasted space if you switch to medium or small size page icons, so not sure why it has been given so much real estate! ● COLUMNS: When creating columns in a text box (ie. Not in a table), I would like the option to adjust the space between columns - I see you can move them - adjusting the columns themselves, but I would like to set a different spacing to apply to a whole text box. ● LINES: I can’t figure out an easy way to draw or insert a straight line as a design element. The option seems to be to use the pencil, but requires a very steady hand - would be ideal to set a start and end point and have it default to a straight horizontal, and/or snap to some logical angles when you rotate it. ● PLACING .AI FILES: For some reason when I’m placing .ai graphics, Affinity is adding a lot of extra empty space around the edges, which means the graph/ic is so large that I cannot find the corners to shrink, and/or clip it. I’m working with a really old version of Illustrator, so could be why? This is definitely causing some headaches.
  23. Anyone know how to constrain a straight line while using a brush -brush tool? on affinity Ipad. In procreate I just keep pressing at the end of the line and it turns it into a straight stroke. Any equivalents in Affinity photo Ipad
  24. Hello. I am trying to create design from picture above. I have problem with zig zag lines. I want to get effect like on screenshoot 1. Screenshoot 2 is showing my package template. I would like to get zig zag lines go smoothly from one side of the package to another one. Any ideas how i could make this work?
  25. Hi I Have a question about inheriting settings in pen tool, when Im work with it and choose colour width and finish shape, the next one Im must start again from zero settings, Im tired with it, in other apps last settings pass on to the next new line. Is this possible in AD nad AP? Im working on Win10 with latest release of AD and AP.
