  1. Hello. In "DrawPlusX8" using the "spiral" blank, copying it several times, combining objects and applying the Calligraphic line, I could position the object at a certain angle to get some kind of "galaxy". All the lines after applying the effects in this version are as if separately layered on each other and when turning turns out to be a 3D multilayer model. In "DrawPlusX8" there is a line view. "Calligraphic line" has the setting "Calligraphy Angle", also there are brushes that place textures vertically relative to the plane (for example, "grass"), though these brushes do not have an angle setting like "calligraphic line". In “Affinity Designer”, having done this, I get that all the lines are mixed into a mess on one plane and the effects only aggravate it, and the brush does not have the Calligraphic Line tool with an angle setting (not by pressing or speed) and many other brushes with a similar vertical location but without adjusting the angle. Will such features be implemented in “Affinity Designer”? Can you help with advice on how to do it correctly in “Affinity Designer”? Maybe my actions by analogy as in "DrawPlusX8" are wrong? Thanks a lot in advance. I apologize for my English, the electronic translator translated. For example, I will attach a video file in which I try to create the same “galaxy” effect from the beginning in “DrawPlusX8” and then in “Affinity Designer”. 3.1.mp4
  2. Hi, I'll post here an idea to improve more the Affinity Designer experience, I got this idea while working, when I'm dealing with thousands of layers, sometimes I need to find or access some specific layers in big projects and it's quite hard to deal with it without a way to filter, and I think this example below can illustrate better the idea. I work with 2d animations too, and in this software in the right side as example, they have an amazing way to filter some categories and this user experience can also helps Affinity in next improvements. anyway thanks for taking this into consideration. cheers, Jhon
  3. Hi, I just wanted to share an issue I have been facing since I use Affinity Designer (and the Affinity suite in general). I don't think it has already been discussed on other topics and if so I apologise. I use the Affinity suite (Designer, Photo and Publisher) and my issue concerns the layers order. I'm used to organise my artboards, groups and layers according to their position in the workspace of the document. For instance I put elements that are on the top left of the workspace, on the top of my layers panel. Then I put elements that are on the top right, then elements that are below, etc. (You can find an attached picture to better understand my organisation ). Those who are familiar with the Affinity suite can figure my issue: Affinity apps always place the latest created element on top of the layers panel list. This is a major issue for me when I automatically duplicate layers: the display order in the layers panel and the order of my elements in the workspace are opposite. So I have to take time to reorganise my layers and I'm still a bit frustrated by that. I don't know whether I am the only (weird) one to order elements this way and I don't think it is currently possible to solve that issue. So I would be more than grateful if Affinity could let us choose the spreading order of the elements on the layer panel!
  4. Is there a way to merge multiple layers into one layer? Thanks
  5. It's just a small bird (Kohlmeise, Great tit), but he has made me a little nervous. So many layers I had previously only in some large portrait illustrations. I thought so a bird is easy to draw, but he is not. Respect, little bird ;)
  6. After scrolling using a trackpad and switching to a wacom, scroll bar covers all the checkmarks. It probably should 'move' the UI elements to the side, not cover them.
  7. I've been trying to find more information on Publisher's layers. The Layer panel doesn't work as experienced in other programs and it's causing a lot of trouble. Can we get a snazzy video tutorial on how Publish layers work. Rather than simply stepping me through the controls it would be nice to know when a layer is automatically created and why, how I should approach using layers and things NOT to do when working with layers. Thanks!
  8. Due to a corrupted file, I've reverted to a previous version (last worked on using v1.7.0.140) and observed something I don't recall seeing before. There's a red striped "decoration" down the left edge of many of the layers (text frames, shapes, curves) in the Layers panel. Where this exists on a group, it is present on each sub-layer when the group is expanded. This is a Master page which is, initially not applied to any document pages. After applying the master to a document page, the red stripes change to a solid red line which is now present on every layer. Looking back to previous versions of this same file, those lines are present there too. It's the sort of thing I'd like to think I'd notice and I don't recall spotting them before. Makes me think this has arrived with 1.7.0.145… I can't find any reference in either the Layers section of the manual or the Layer Panel page in the Help. I also did a quick search across the forum and drew a blank. Can anyone explain what these stripes signify?
  9. This is my first post I'm new to this forum. Ive tried and looked for hours to find out how to save all my adjustment layers to Preset(s). From my understanding you have to save each layer and label it. For example, adjusting and then saving the Vibrance as a preset and naming it. After saving each layer preset on my finished picture and labeling them, I opened up another photo, which I want to have the exact same adjustments. I clicked on all the custom layer adjustment presets I just made but the picture doesn't turn out the same in the end? Even though when I click on each preset (in the new photo that I want to look like the previous) it says its tweaked the same as the one I saved, but the photo still looks drastically different? Do all NOT adjustments transfer over? Am I doing something wrong? Is there a better way to do this? (and im not talking about the background people photoshopped out, im aware of that) THANK YOU for reading this, this is so frustrating and it makes me want to switch back to Lightroom. (the picture without people is the look i want, the picture with people is what happens when i click on all the saved presets for the finished picture)
  10. Hello world, I seem unable to place page content in between the elements of the master Page, i.e. have some Master Page layer always on top of Page elements/layers, and other Master Page layer always below Page elements/layers. This is easily achieved in e.g. InDesign (and Scribus for that matter), so I am curious whether I am doing something utterly wrong or whether this is a missing feature (which I hereby request). Greetings, --Thomas
  11. So I am trying to create images that I can use as assets, not as a layer asset but as a vector image asset. But I am unable to do this. If I in Designer export to say svg or eps I get them as embeded document, and then I cannot save it as an asset. I have tried searching for this and seen many videos, but it seems I am not sure what the correct search is for this problem. I have tried creating all objects so they all become "curves" but that does not seem to help. And I do not want to raster it as that does not make it vector. What is the correct way of saving this as an object/image that I can use as an asset later?
  12. Hello, I am just starting my new Project.. and try to realize it with Affinity Designer... I've tried to rebuild to Elements I have seen on other Watchfaces… because I would like to use them in my own watchface... But unfortunately.. my skills with AD and my creativity ) isn't that good… so Maybe some of you could support me somehow and show me a better way to realize my too Images.. and to help me improve my skills with AD. One is the outer ring (like in the IMG_4816 and the other thing is the "Tag" (or however you would name it).. Thanks in Advance... With Kind regards from Germany... 13. Well, it seems that I’ll be here very often anyways, I’d like to know how to change the opacity of a layer. Please, forgive me if it is a stupid question. thx so much
  14. I'm a videogame artisti and it happens many times that I have to export single layers or groups of layer that contains the various assets for the game. But if I decide to use some adjustment layers to modify the whole document when I export the single layers to png they lose the adjustments and I don't want every time to apply singularly a copy of these adjustment to every asset I export. Is there a way to keep into consideration the global adjustment layers when exporting part of a drawing? Thank you for answering ;)
  15. In the Select menu I would like to suggest renaming Select All Layers to Select All Visible Layers (which is what it does effectively) Hubert
  16. Sorry if this question has been answered already, but is there a way to lock all layers at once? I see there is a Layers/show all, but not a layers/lock all. I use AP with Reallusion Cartoon Animator and for some reason, all of the sprite layers need to be locked and "show" icon checked (please see image) or they don't appear when I export back into CA. I could fix each layer one at a time but that could be rather daunting. Thank you. u.
  17. Moving Curve onto the image layer is a 100% repeatable crash. I've tried different files and different documents with the same result. PubCrash.mp4
  18. I was wondering if there was a way to group elements that are on different layers. For instance, I would like to group the 'compass' into one but still keep the 'document' sandwiched in between while not including the 'document' in the group. Is this possible? *see image for context*
  19. I don't see how to create a feature (object/layer) that is visible, but won't print.
  20. I am basically trying to recreate some Photoshop Actions I use all the time. In Photoshop I can create a few Vibrance adjustments with vibrance at -100 and saturation at +100 and it shows the most intense areas. In Photoshop these are just in a folder but they work without the folder too. In Affinity Photo this doesn't really do anything like in Photoshop so I am not sure how the layers actually behave? I do have some other questions -- if someone out here is really proficient with Affinity -- would it be helpful if I sent over my Photoshop Actions -- I have 3 that I really want to match with Affinity. Thank you, Roman [I've attached the vibrance effect that photoshop can (seemingly) accomplish and Affinity not] -- before and after
  21. I see many posts re: layers, I just upgraded to newest version of Affinity. When I try to merge layers, the layers section creates more layers of verious adjustment layers. When I use merge visible, it also creates more adustment layers. I can't get the layers to merge all. What gives. Seems useless now if I can't merge my layers when I want to, and save the image. Am attaching a screenshot showing the layers section as is: I just added any old adjustment layer, then tried to merge visible and this is what happend. The section is on the right. Please help.
  22. Hello, I'm an old Mac hand, but a newbie when it comes to Affinity. I have some layered Photoshop PSD files consisting of text and textures. Most of my work is in video editing in FCPX. I'm trying to avoid the expensive Adobe licensing fees for PS, because I wouldn't be using it that much. I was really impressed with the intro to Affinity, both proprietary and clips on YouTube; and especially so for the ability to work with PSD files. I've started in on the Affinity tutorials, but so far have not gotten a handle on how to unlock the different layers of the particular file I'd like to change with my text. And it looks like the learning curve is longer than the deadline allotted for the titles. I'd greatly appreciate any help or advice or steps in how to unpack the layers, if possible, and change the texts within. This is the link to the attached PSD file I'd like to edit: old-movie-01.psd. I'm hoping that once I know how to access the layers (again, if possible) I'll be able to take it from there. In any event, thanks very much in advance for your time and consideration! - All the best, David old-movie-01.psd

    Can't find layers panel?

I use multiple monitors at work, so I am thinking this might be the cause? My layers panel has disappeared. I don't know where it is or how to get it back. Can someone help? Am I missing something obvious? When I right click on an item and click on "Find in Layers Panel" nothing happens. Really love using this trial and am probably going to purchase. But I gotta know why it's doing this. Thanks!!
  24. I just began working with the 10 day free trial of Affinity Photo. I am a professional photographer who uses Capture One Pro – formally used Lightroom — and have been using Photoshop for the past five years. I’m very fluent in Photoshop but I’m sick of Adobe and I’m very impressed with Affinity so far after just a couple of days. This might be a somewhat ignorant question, but the way the layers are laid out, the way Affinity has them viewed, confuses me. I cannot tell a group from a clipped layer from a mask from a clipped mask, if that’s even a thing. They all look exactly alike to me, even though I know there is a certain way to do it by dragging and dropping in a certain area of the layer or underneath to the left or to the right, but it’s all very confusing — yet I do see the blue bars that change positions: just not sure what they mean exactly. But even when I start to understand where to drag and drop to do a clipping (child) or put in a group or put underneath or above another layer, once it’s done I cannot tell if that layer is actually clipped or not. In Photoshop of course there’s that crooked arrow pointing at the layer that it’s clipped too. I really wish Affinity would have each look more different, maybe with icons, etc... If anyone can explain and demonstrate, maybe in a video or screenshots, how all the above actually works, that would be great. I have attached a screenshot where I have a Group on top, and then a levels adjustment that I put in there as a blue vertical line, then I have another levels adjustment that was an automatic child layer, and then I have a masked layer at the bottom. I know the mask says mask, and the group says group, but they all look so similar I’m not sure just by looking at them, if I were not to read what it says in the text, how would I know which is which? Thank you.
  25. I'm new to affinity and I'm struggling with the most basic of tasks. When I send multiple images into affinity photo from On1 photo RAW 2019, the first image will open on the screen and also display in the layers panel, the other files are there along the top of the screen but closed. How to I open all these files as layers in the same stack?
