  1. Hello, I have a web layout that I've created using Affinity Designer and I want to export it as a PSD with layers (preferrably editable where possible) so someone I'm working with who only has and knows Photoshop can make changes. However, when I export the layout no matter which preset I choose (even PSD preserve editability) it always exports flattened to one pixel background layer. I'm opening the result in Photoshop CC 2018. What do I need to change so that it will export my document to layers?
  2. Affinity Designer I find unlocking a layer challenging when I have hundreds of layers. For unlocked layers, Find in layers panel works a treat. But for locked layers this option is greyed out (I guess because the layer cannot be selected) and I have to scroll through all the layers looking for the one I want to unlock. What's the smarter way to do this? Thanks in advance.
  3. Hi Support Sorry for the large video file - I haven't figured how to reduce it yet. Can you check the video to see what the problem is. Affinity Designer 2020-09-17 15-41-48.mp4 The problem I'm having is that layers go missing mysteriously if I embed a pixel layer. I was doing it fine when I started (you'll notice that there is no problem with the ships body that has a pixel layer embedded in the vector layer) on the file but this seemed to happen as I progressed. I don't remember having this problem before. Is this a known issue with the update? - I tried looking but the closest I saw was the application crashing when users started to use layers (which is not a problem I have).
  4. Hi! I have created a cartoon character that I want to use and reuse many times. It is made in about 20 layers. I would like to "flatten" all the layers into one so that I can replicate it many times without having it be such a heavy file. I cannot find any videos on Serif or online to tell me how to do this. PLEASE HELP! THANKS!
  5. On numerous occasions I've had prints show the border lines of my layers. Now, I just printed a file and it's shows a dark box around the text. None of the layers had an outline in the file. This has happened with Designer and Photo. When I rasterize everything and make it one image, it solves the problem. I shouldn't have to do that. Windows Printer - Epson WF-7720 and Sawgrass SG500
  6. Hello Affinity Community, i want to export my project to JPEG. When i export without brightness and contrast correction, the picture wont have big pixels at the edge but with contrast it does. How can i fix this? Pictures are linked
  7. Summary: This feature would allow you to use a group to clip a layer, so the resulting transparency of a group of layers would affect the transparency of the layer being clipped. Usage: First off, I have hundreds of psd files from photoshop that use this feature, so I can't use any of these paintings inside Affinity because that feature is not supported (This feature is kind of a show stopper for me, since I can't port all of my older files over to Affinity) And second, it's so useful for a non destructive workflow, many times you want to say paint a bunch of different characters on separate layers, and then apply a soft layer of fog to all the characters. So you group all of your character layers, create a new layer that has your fog color set to a low opacity, and then clip this fog layer to your group. In the current affinity workflow, you'd have to flatten all of those characters to a single layer, which means making edits to your characters later on become a lot harder. Thanks! - Neil
  8. Hi, it would be great if you add CSS export feature like CSS Hat (https://csshat.com). I think that every HTML & CSS coder will buy your Affinity Designer and stop using expensive Photoshop :-) Thanks. Petr
The current version of Affinity Designer on Win10 Pro, latest updates, is the most buggy version in a long time. Very often the subtraction of 2 forms works wrong, after a restart the error disappears. Layers on top of each other are displayed incorrectly hidden, and, I have a nice screenshot for this, non-existent contours are displayed. I hope that there will be an update very, very soon. Until then I will certainly install the previous version, because with the work makes no sense.
  10. I am an absolute newbie in drawing digitally (though not drawing physically). I set myself what I thought would be a simple beginner, teach-myself project using Designer. Your tutorials seem to start with an assumption of more basic knowledge (or jargon) than I have. I think my issue is a basic misunderstanding of layers, or deciding or managing the sequence of actions. Sorry to feel so stupid, but I am missing the "logic" of the process. [Maybe what is needed is a video tutorial at this level of (mis)understanding and decision-making.] My project: I want to draw some simple rectangular shapes and add text within each that I can center vertically and horizontally in each rectangle. I would like a different fill color in each rectangle, and different stroke-width outlines to my rectangles. I would then like to connect my rectangles with lines of different stroke widths and/or colors. (Result, sort of like a simple mind-map.) I'm fine with drawing, shaping corners, and filling the rectangles. Then I go astray. Adding text makes the rectangles disappear. Changing the color changes the color of the text. I cannot automatically align the text in the rectangles. I assume that my issues have to do with managing the layers in the layers panel, but maybe the text-alignment issues do not. Adding a text layer seems to make my "rectangle" layer disappear from the layers panel. I cannot seem to figure out what where it went. Should I add my text in the same layer as the original rectangle instead of its own layer? if so, how do I do this without making the fill and/or rectangle disappear? Art text? makes the text path curve around the shape of the rectangle, or something unexpected like that. (I still lose the color of the fill.) Text box? How do I fit it in the rectangle or not lose the fill color? How do I use the opacity sliders for the layers? For example, setting the opacity to 0 in the text layer simply makes the text gray and disappear, not let that layer show the rectangle's color and shape behind it show through, etc. When, or why, do I add new layer? Could someone kindly start me off with a very basic, step-by-step beginner's workflow to practice with to achieve my result? Or explain the logic behind sequencing the various processes to achieve my result? Such as: Step 1. select rectangle tool at left, draw and shape rectangle. Step 2. color fill rectangle? or should I add text and align? Step 3. set stroke around rectangle Step 4. add new layer???? select text tool and type text??? etc., etc.
  11. It would be very nice if you could collapse all layers at once in the layers panel. Layers become very difficult to work with when you have many of them since selecting objects expands the parent layer, so you have to scroll back up and manually collapse them yourself. Perhaps you could have it so that layers are only expanded for as long as the item within it is selected? That way, after deselecting an object, the layer expansion goes back to its previous state, which is ether expanded or collapsed. Am I making any sense?
  12. Strange things happen to night after playing with three layers and a mask i version Trying to set a mask on upper layer. AP freeze, after minimized the app and get back the mask is there, but ... I can't remove or doing anything the mask from this layer, and at that moment AP quit without any warning total.
  13. Is there a way to merge multiple layers into one layer? Thanks
  14. Hi Updated all to 1.8.4 👍 well done on all the bug fixes, drawing with the pen tool seems to be working great. I'm just struggling with the dragging layers into vector containers behaviour, weras in 1.8.3 and previous it was instant, now there seems to be a delay which is slowing me down quite a bit - I get that you now have to really move to the right and wiggle whatever you place inside the container - is this by design? if so maybe a colour change to green for the overlay to show what's happening or something to indicate you've achieved the goal - just wish it was as responsive as before which always worked great. It's really getting to me so thought I'd upload a quick demo vid just to check to see if others are experiencing the same problem? Screen_Recording_2020-08-04_at_10_18_08.mov
  15. I have a lot of layers that I own... Can they be uploaded into AP?
  16. I don't understand the "X" frame which appears to keep me from editing some of the objects in the attachments. No problem when the box and text are identified in the layers panel, but not all objects appear there. Also, a red line appears when expanding some items in the layers panel. I suspect this is related to my problem. No doubt this is another not seeing the forest for the trees. But I just completed a 90 page book and am trying to go through and make very minor adjustments / corrections and am expending a lot of time just trying to select an object, text box to make the change. I am able to click on an object, text frame in the layers panel or alternately use "find" to find and select the text or object to be edited. This is my first project with Affinity Publisher and up to this situation it's been a relatively easy to learn and use product. I do miss having cross-referencing, footnotes and endnotes, but I worked around those issues. Thanks,
  17. Hi, I am new to Affinity, having been an ex-photoshop7 user. I am trying to stack some astro photos and I understand the concept when creating a new stack from file images. But in the case you have half a dozen layers, you can group them, but the "median" operator does not seem to be available unless you created the stack from the start ("File>New Stack"). Also, you can create a new stack, then you can ungroup it to adjust the alignment (two layers at a time, upper layer to difference, then repeat with other layers), but you cannot re-group and reproduce the previous stack layer with operators. I was lead to believe the grouping was similar to Photoshops' "smart object". Question: Simply, can I take several layers, group them, and turn them into a "stacked image" as if was created from "File>New Stack", and have access to those same layer operators (median)? Thanks, Bob
  18. I'm a new user to Designer and I have many .ai and EPS documents that have multiple layers and sub-layers. When I open any of these documents in Designer, the sub-layers are missing on both the layers panel and of course in the workspace screen. Am I doing something wrong here? The original doc's are AI CS2 files and some exported to .eps files.
  19. I don't see how to create a feature (object/layer) that is visible, but won't print.
  20. Good Evening Team, Right now I am trying to create a brand mark in Affinity Designer. I have my art board open and I have a simple brand mark in black placed on the art board against a white background. The brand mark has very crisp edges and I want to soften them, so I have added a heavy Gaussian blur to the brand mark layer. Here is the issue. - I want to use the threshold filter on the brand mark layer to round out the edges of the Gaussian blur effect. When I try to apply the threshold filter adjustment on the brand mark it doesn't change the sharpness of the image at all. - If I promote the threshold filter above the mark to a new layer I can change the sharpness... this is all great but shouldn't the filters affect the layers they are on? - Also, if I successfully apply this technique to a brand in black and white I am not able to change the color of the black mark to anything else. - I need to be able to apply these filters to weather and soften the brand mark and then convert the new mark to a path and fill object that can be manipulated on its own. Is there anyway to do this? Hopefully, the images I have attached show the step by step process I'm trying to use to achieve and where I get stuck. Thanks, Dave
  21. Hi to all, Is it possible to select two layers, or two groups of layers, and toggle back and forth between them? When editing photos, I will often put two different ideas on two different layers: Let's say "A" is a curves layer where I've put a lot of contrast and "B" a curves layer where I've put only a little contrast. I want to look at one, then the other, to see which idea I like best. As it stands now, the only thing that I seem to be able to do is to uncheck A to see what B looks like; then uncheck B and check A to see what A looks like; then uncheck A and recheck B to see what it looks like again; ... ad nauseam. That's long and especially any true "toggling effect" (a rapid back and forth between the adjusted images) is lost, because you're obliged to either go briefly completely back to the unadjusted background layer (a third "version" thus), or have both of the adjustment layers briefly activated (a fourth "version" thus). 😖 What I'm looking for is to select A and B: [Keystroke and/or Click]: A checked, B unchecked [Keystroke and/or Click]: A unchecked, B checked etc. etc. What's the magic keystroke or keystroke and click combination that I'm missing to do this? Thanks to all in advance!
  22. Hi to all, Considering the crickets I heard with this post on the Affinity on Desktop Questions forum, I'm assuming that the following is not currently possible, and therefore posting here as a request: When editing photos, I will often put two different ideas on two different layers. Let's say "A" is a curves layer where I've put a lot of contrast and "B" a curves layer where I've put only a little contrast. I want to look at one, then the other, to see which idea I like best. As it stands now, the only thing that I seem to be able to do is to uncheck A to see what B looks like; then uncheck B and check A to see what A looks like; then uncheck A and recheck B to see what B looks like again; ... ad nauseam. That's long and especially any true "toggling effect" (a rapid back and forth between the adjusted images) is lost, because you're obliged to either go briefly completely back to the unadjusted background layer (a third "version" thus), or have both of the adjustment layers briefly activated (a fourth "version" thus). 😖 What I'm requesting is some way to toggle between a series of layers or groups of layers. I used two layers for the example above, but as a feature, one should be able to toggle through any number of layers or groups of layers. I would imagine such a feature would start with selecting the concerned layers. So, using the example above, I would select the layers A and B then: [Keystroke and/or Click] gives: A checked, B unchecked [Keystroke and/or Click] gives: A unchecked, B checked etc. etc. Just to hammer in the idea, let's imaging a third layer, "C": Select the three layers: [Keystroke and/or Click] gives: A checked, B unchecked, C unchecked [Keystroke and/or Click] gives: A unchecked, B checked, C unchecked [Keystroke and/or Click] gives: A unchecked, B unchecked, C checked etc. etc. I seem to remember such a feature being available in another image editing program, but can't remember which one (Gimp??). I hope that others will sound in and thanks to the Affinity team for all you do!
  23. It is well known that nodes can do everything about layers(ui). The layer cannot do some of the node's actions. Nodes are 100% compatible with layers(ui) and channels(ui). Make changes to the existing layer(ui) to make it nodey while maintaining compatibility with the original layer(ui). Adobe PS lacks even a true alpha channel(ui) because of its stale architecture. Nodeized Layer(node-ui) and channel(node-ui), affinity will have far more flexibility than PS. Adobe can never do that because of its stale architecture. This ensures an absolute lead in affinity. This node feature does not require a huge amount of new code, just changes to existing layer(ui). (I know that many(Affinity)programs are backends(Behind) based on nodes., so this is easier to do) It does not require changing the appearance of the existing layer(ui). Just provide an option to enable the advanced 3D multi-layer box node layer(node) channel(node) framework(ui). Reference implementation: https://natrongithub.github.io/ Natron (open source)
  24. Hey, I've worked on a vector + pixel job and want to iterate several times on the pixel part. I would like to delete / reset all pixel layers as a bulk operation. Right now I have to select them one by one, it's tedious. Is there a way to bulk select all layers of a certain type? In this case, select all pixel layers?
