  4. Serif allow customers to test new builds of the software even before it is released to the public. These "beta" builds offer an opportunity to trial bug fixes, add support for new file formats and show off new features before they are launched. This post is designed to be an aid to knowing if you are trying the latest beta version of the Affinity software on your platform. Product Name | Platform | Beta Ver. | ====================|================|==================| Affinity Designer | iPad 12.x-14.x | 1.9.1 (1.9.22) | Affinity Photo | iPad 12.x-14.x | 1.9.1.222 | Affinity Publisher | iPad 12.x-14.x | to be announced | ADe and APh iPad Customer Betas require you to be an owner of the paid for version of the software to work. You need to have the purchased software installed on the same iPad as the customer beta. APu iPad beta has not yet been announced or released. If you would like to try the iPad Customer Beta build look for the top (pinned) post in each of these forums, the latest of which is posted in this thread: Affinity Designer beta for iPad forum Affinity Photo beta for iPad forum Affinity Publisher Public beta for iPad to be announced iPad build numbers and Windows/Mac builds are independent. The third number increases each time a public release is made, the last number is generated by a build server and so not directly related to each other. I will update/edit this post as new iPadOS Beta releases are added by the developers. This thread is locked and will only be posted to by Serif Staff when the beta release versions are updated. Please follow this thread if you want to know about future version changes. If you think this post has got behind announcing the iPadOS beta updates and needs updating please PM me.
  5. As a very recent purchaser of an iPad and the Affinity iPad apps, reading this thread has left me a little confused! I have installed the latest version of Designer from the App Store; the splash screen shows it as being version 1.9.0, but the "Preferences/Settings" screen shows it to be 1.9.3. Which is "correct"? (Screenshot below). TIA. Jeff
  6. I'm new to Affinity Photo for iPad. I'm using a 512GB 11" iPad Pro (2018) with a Samsung T5 (1TB) SSD attached. I'm using the Open From Cloud option to navigate to my attached Samsung T5 SSD drive to select a file to open. This seems like basic functionality but I'm having problems. I'm hoping it is operator error. When I select the directory on my SSD containing the file I want to open, it takes 75 seconds (!) before anything appears. The first time this happened I assumed Affinity Photo was creating thumbnails...until 4900 or so generic icons appeared. No thumbnails at all. If I navigate away from the directory and go back, it will take another 75 seconds to show me the same list or grid (it makes no difference) of generic icons. Is this right? Because I don't see how it is reasonable to expect me to locate the file I want to open without seeing a thumbnail. The file name is meaningless. Nor can I copy the files onto my iPad Pro. There isn't room. Is there a setting I'm missing? FWIW, the files in this directory are compressed RAF files. They do open fine when I click on them. What I really want—and it doesn't look like Affinity Photo is it—is a photo editing solution that allows me to work directly off of an SSD connected to my iPad Pro when I'm traveling to areas of the country/world where there is no internet access. I want to be able to review my files (at 100% when necessary) without having to shuttle them on and off of the iPad itself. Even the cheapest laptop can accomplish this. But it seems like software developers can't figure out how to make this work with an iPad.
  7. Hello, A very frustrating phenomenon keeps occurring while trying to select parts of a picture in Affinity Photo for iPad. Even though anti-alias is turned off and feather is set to 0, the edge of the selection i still blurred and I’ve found no setting to fix this. Am I missing something here? All I want is to have a nice, crisp edge on my selections but it doesn’t seem work. Anyone having the same problem?
  8. Hi fellow Affinity users. Having been confined to the house during the Covid pandemic I have taken the opportunity to update the Designer PDF help file to version 1.8.3.2. There have been numerous additions in this version so you may benefit from updating. I hope you find it useful. I have attached a copy of the PDF version of the Affinity Designer IPad apps built in Help file directly to this post. See below. (I have also attached a Dropbox “link” to a PDF version). Both files are the same. File size is 10 mb. I have also provided a higher resolution version (26mb) where small icons may be clearer. You can open the PDF file in a reader or iBook allowing you to view and search the help file while working on a document in Affinity Designer. All links within the document should be working. I hope you find it as useful as I do. Please note that this PDF is not in any way supported by Affinity, nor are they responsible for any errors or omissions, so please do not refer any errors or omissions in the Document to Affinity. Every attempt has been made (by me) to ensure the content is an accurate representation of the built in Help file, however some errors 'may' have slipped through . I will endeavour to keep it up to date (at least for a little while) . When Publisher comes out I may redo the layout (Pages is a little limited in the area of indexing). My Dropbox account is basic and limits daily bandwidth, if you experience a problem downloading just try again next day. Here is the DropBox link (or simply download the attached zip file at the bottom of this post. The attached file has been reduced to a 10mb file size, see Dropbox link for higher res copies). https://www.dropbox.com/sh/wulycsq0un4uo6i/AACz5hvGbGrteZB4E9q_HPI5a?dl=0 Enjoy Dave Affinity_Designer_Help_File_1.8.3.2.zip
  9. Is there a way to change the thumbnails back to the original thumbnail? After I updated all the files I save have the AD logo as the thumbnail instead of the actual project contents. I’m bad at naming files so I rely on the thumbnail to pick which projects I need. On another forum someone said that the files will eventually change back to the original thumbnail. But it hasn’t changed yet.
  10. Hi there, I noticed an overall drop of performance with the newest version. Especially when liquify masks are involved (but not necessarily bound to the use of liquify masks). It will often react with huge lags even with only using the GUI (selecting tools, opening menus, switching personas etc but not doing anything to the file itself). Can someone else confirm? Update: Its not only sluggish but also a first grade battery consumer. 30% in half an hour. My device is an iPad Pro 2nd Gen 10.5" with the latest OS installed (14.4 as today).

  12. I’ve a simple rectangle. Pasted inside it, is a complex artwork which is much larger than the rectangle. Is there a way to move the rectangle without moving the artwork that’s inside it? I’ve tried locking the artwork that’s inside the rectangle = didn’t work. I’ve explored choosing the node tool = nope. Can’t think what else logically to do. All help appreciated, thank you.
  13. Hello Affinity Team, Is there a way to preview the cursor/brush size while painting or brushing? I understand the iPad doesn't have hover support but at least while brushing, I hope to see the boundaries of the brush. Thank you so much!
  14. I came up with some ideas to improve workflow. Look at second photo coz i dont know how to delete first one.
  15. I recently purchased the ipad version of Designer to make vector based artwork on the go. I've had the desktop version for a little while now and really enjoy it. One change I had to make right away when I bought the desktop version was turning on "precise clipping" in the performance section. I have become so used to this setting that I honestly forgot I ever even had to turn it on until today. Now that I'm attempting to work in Designer on my ipad I am running into thin lines appearing between layers that contain other objects. I will attach a picture below that should show a thin brown line appearing between the two layers as well as a screenshot showing how they are set up. Saving the file then downloading it to my desktop and opening it on my desktop version fixes this issue entirely so I can only assume "Precise Clipping" is to blame. Is this function not available on ipad? It seems rather silly to have to send myself my own file just to open it on my desktop as a workaround. Thanks in advance for any advice.
  16. Hey so i’ve been using Affinity Designer on my Ipad pro (2018) for a long time now. Never had any problems until two days ago when the new update came out. Whatever i try to do, whichever file i open the app crashes after a few seconds rendering it completely unusable... As i do two design jobs using mostly AD, this is a huge problem now. Any tips on how i could solve this would be greatly appreciated. Before you ask, yes i tried resetting the ipad, it didn’t help, the problem seems to be with the new update...
  17. Updated my desktop versions and was happy and then went on to the iPad versions - not so happy :-( The fill tool doesn’t work with bitmap fill anymore (both in Designer and Photo) which is kind of a very big issue for a surface pattern designer. I use this tool all the time everyday ! Is there anyway to roll back to the previous version until a patch comes out for this issue?
  18. I have a font I use in AD (Samantha) on my iPad that I need to “weld” so it will cut out on my laser. When I use Geometry Add it leaves the middle of the letters like L the same color fill, not blank. I’ve tried setting the layer to Alternate vs Winding and it looks fine in AD but when I bring it into my UI for the laser, it has the same problem. It’s got a fill where it shouldn’t. It doesn’t matter whether I convert it to curves first or not. How do get the letters to connect as one unit and get the blank space on the middle of the letters to be correct. I’m baffled as it why it’s not working. On the photo the R isn’t connected so it’s ok. The rest of the letters are connected and you see what happens. Cathe
  19. Please add a histogram with sliders to the levels adjustment just like in the desktop version.

  21. I recently started vectoring an object on my desktop (PC) and needed to export it to my ipad. I used google drive to drop the file on and then opened the file up on designer for ipad with Zero problems but when I completed the vector object and tried to export it back to the desktop it keeps exporting the objects as pixels even though I chose "editable" for all aspects of the file it still opens up on the desktop as pixels. Please Help! Thank you in Advance for any help!
  22. Hello, My AC COBRA SHELBY...on iPad !
  23. Uploaded a short process video that might interest some. Normal speed, just showing how I add refined line work and colour to a sketch in Designer. Hopefully there’ll be something to take away from it. Let me know if there are any questions. IMG_0279.MP4
  24. So I created a logo in Affinity Designer. The doc dimensions are set to 800x600px Now I want to export my logo file as a 32x32 .png file i can easily crop the canvas square but when I export and change the dimensions to 32x32px it is (expectedly?) distorted. (4x3 vs. 4x4) How would I export the cropped area in designer as. 32x32px .png file without distortion ? thank you all in advance for your valuable help.
  25. Hi guys, I'm having trouble to find a way to fit an image to another's perspective. In photoshop I use the free transform tool. Unfortunately I wasn't able to find something similar here on the iPad. The closest to it is the Shear/Rotation, but that's not flexible enough for my needs. Can anyone please help me? Thank you
