  1. Greetings Community! I have to work on an isometric design. I've learned that AD offers custom grid lines, so I wanted to explore these. When I go to "View" --> "Grid and Axis Manager..." and have "Show grid" & "Use automatic grid" checked, I see the standart grid being visible. Nice. However, when I uncheck "Use automatic grid" and choose "Mode: Advanced", the grid goes invisible and no matter what grid type I select, I don't get back any grid / visual feedback. I followed a youtuber doing this and he got instant results, based on the Grid type. I can't see why it wouldn't work for me. What did I miss? Cheers!
  2. I bought Affinity Photo for windows and it came with the Macro Pack. I followed the directions to install them but the program only looks for Macro (.afmacro) files not (.afmacros) which is what the files are named in the pack that I got. I changed the name and removed the (s) the program then sees it as an option but when I try to import it nothing happens.
  3. I wanted to start a topic for everyone new to affinity designer who's working through the work book or just teaching them selves the basics to upload your highs, lows struggle and flow of your progress or any help some of the senior users would be more than welcomed
  4. On all applications the help window will NOT display.. It used to be the case that one must select English (UK) to display help, but neither version of English will permit the display of any help screens. A window opens, but nothing is shown.

    Huge Crashing Issue

I'm trying to tidy up my portfolio for the summer, but everytime I open up a project in Affinity Designer and go to studio -> color -> and then try to make a color adjustment the software crashes. It does this mostly when I start to do things other than resizing and moving things around... so basically trying to perform anything further than that makes the software crash. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling and updating (no updates are available) and still nothing works. Also, the layout of the screen seemed to have changed somehow during this process. When the application opens, my home screen no longer automatically brings up the layers or color wheel or anything. And then, trying to get them back and use them crashes the software. Super annoying. I am going to attach the error message that I get everytime the software crashes. I copied and pasted it into a pdf file. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP. I don't want to have to go back to Adobe Illustrator. Crash.pdf

    The Help file is blank

Anyone notice that the Help appears to be totally blank in 1.6.1? Check out this informative topic lookup. AffinityNoHelp.mov
  7. So there's a setting in Photoshop called transfer that I use religiously. Is there a setting in Affinity (or is a setting being planned in a future update) that I can use that would produce something similar?? I found another thread about this but I'm looking for more recent answers.... I tried setting "flow" to be affected by pen pressure, but the result is too different from what I'm looking for. I'd also be okay with a Photoshop plugin of... some sort, that might allow me to do something similar... I'm just so desperate for Affinity Photo to replace Photoshop for me. I refuse to pay monthly for something I wouldn't use monthly! Anything helps
  8. Has anyone of you lovely people experienced issues with guides? They used to work ok - a bit buggy, but now they're completely broken. If anyone has a hack to unlock artboard guides on ipad pro I'd be so grateful! When I navigate to guides>show guides I can't move any of the existing guides, the only function I can perform is to add new guides - but even though I can add guides, these cannot be moved by hand/apple pencil (only by adjusting coordinates). Many thanks.

    Having trouble exporting SVG.

Hi loves! Super affinity designer newbie. I make logos for clients & for some reason having a hard time exporting to SVG.. I’ve sliced before on most of my designs & I usually have to do it a few times until it magically works. The specific design I created is like another I did & the SVG export worked. For some reason I can’t figure it out. I bought the book & super love it... but it doesn’t go into a lot of detail about exporting sadly. Please help. I will add file & hopefully someone can get it! I know I’m doing something wrong if I have to try to 20 times before not knowing what I did right. Haha. Thanks so so much! Untitled Copy_10.afdesign
  10. Hey friends of Affinity Designer, I need to create an icon with a very complicated structure. This is the structure I need to simplify and put in a circle: Do you have any idea about which steps I have to take? Thank you for your help! ~Jessie
  11. This thread contains a variety of commonly asked questions ranging from straightforward tasks to more technically demanding operations. We've worked hard on providing lots of tutorial content - you can see all the videos at affin.co/PhotoVids - and we hope you find the videos useful in getting to grips with the app. Let's begin! --- Q: I'm completely new to image editing, where do I start? A: Check out our Beginners Series! You can also download practice files used in the videos. --- Q: How do I copy and paste a part of one image into another image? A: See Cutting Out. --- Q: How do I make some basic adjustments to my images? A: See these videos: Adjustment Layers Levels Curves Split Toning and Selective Colour --- Q: There’s no write-up or documentation about the app and its tools! A: Check out FFT Denoise.
  12. This may seem somewhat simple-minded, but for those who will be first-time users, it would be nice to have optional help pop-up dialogue boxes for any of the set-up pages or parameter adjustment elements. Such a feature could be switchable (on/off) in the Preference settings. This would allow for better understanding of each parameter or setting when defining a document or project; which in-turn reduces time costs, support inquiries, et al. Just a thought.
  13. Hello Community, I've already asked that in the past and saw others complain about it, but there does not seem a real solution? However when I watch video tutorials from other professionals, I don't see them having the issue with snapping: I want to snap two objects together, but I mostly end up with a thin line between them. 1) Here you can see my current snapping options. Also I've created a black rectangle 2) I duplicate the rectangle and "try" to snap both together. 3) Once I let go of the mouse, I end up with the fine thin line inbetween the rectangles 4) When I export it, it looks like this: I have no idea what to do about it, but I really have run out of energy on this one .... Can anyone help out here?
  14. To be inspired by the downloadable Affinity Photo Help I've created ibook for Affinity Designer. Hopefully it is OK to share it within this community. Download link: https://app.box.com/s/feur5p14invtuqz6c9rs6qm7wohsj3g5 Notes: All credits belong to Affinity team :) It is not 100% copy of original Help in AD. The formatting is slightly different (page layout, bullets, colours, etc.) so don't be confused. The file format is .ibooks. Sorry, I didn't use EPUB or other but I guess every user has iBooks installed :) Sorry if some references / hyperlinks are missing. I use old-fashioned "copy&paste" method to create this file. I've exported this file from iBooks Author to PDF too, but for some reason the hyperlinks don't work. Anyway if you prefer PDF here is the download link.
  15. Hello, my question is, how to change the backgroundcolor or stainer from Affinity Designer back to white. Mine is beige (235/235/235) when i start Affinity Designer and i can not change it. So all of my pictures get an old beige look to it, that i don't want. (pictures are all with default settings, i didn't change anything after application launch) I tried resetting it and uninstalling it but nothing helped. Thanks for you help.
  16. Hey, I try to use my gradient tool making a tiny planet image, and while using my gradient tool (ans us it to create a mask), the image in the background disappears behind it. Any idea? Here is a screenshot of my situation attached to this message. Christophe
  17. Hello! I am fairly new to Affinity Designer and Photo, but I feel that this problem isn’t due to my lack of experience. But if it is, I will be even more grateful for any expert advice and counsel comming my way. I have been using AD and AP for illustrating and I have been noticing some bugs in the raster brush response. I have experiemented with a mouse, a Huion graphics tablet, and a XP-Pen Artist 15.6 tablet. I am finding the same problems using all three when creating art with rasher brushes (especially in Affinity Photo). Today it was so bad that I was unable to much of anything. In fact, AD totally crashed on me today (I was very please that it was able to recover my work though!) With that all laid out on the table— In describing the bugs in more detail: I am experiencing a tremendous amount of lagging and choppiness when I sketch/stamp/paint (especially with bigger brushes or brushes that have been customized/specially made by third parties like DAUB or Frankentoon). Some brushes don’t even show up at all. All of the brushes are super small for some reason, though I am working in 300 dpi, I feel like I should be able to upsize my brushes without any huge problems occurring... I definitely cannot work a document that is any higher in dpi without being absolutely crippled in my sketch/stamp/painting performance. I am not having this problem as much with the eraser tool. I’m mostly noticing it with the paint and stamps brushes. Any help here will be greatly appreciated. (I can provide screenshots if requested. I felt that I wasn’t really able to convey what I’m describing in just a screenshot, but if it is helpful, let me know and I will post some.) Thank you!
  18. Hi everyone, I'm new here, and new to Affinity Designer. I have no experience with any other vector drawing programes so I really am a total Noob! Please can anyone explain how I might create the texture pattern attached? Thank you! John
  19. i would like to recolor the black selection i made. if its in color i can recolor it using the recolor option, but if its white/black it doesnt allow it to be recolored. and stays white no matter what
  20. Hi, I have AD 1.6.1 on MacOS Mojave 10.14.3, and when I tried looking up Help on transforming (as I need the one thing missing in the default shapes, a parallelogram) I got.. well, nothing. Is this me or is there something broken here? Is this not-help stored locally or does it have to be pulled in from the Net (in which case it isn't)? First I used the pulldown menu, and I drew a blank after selection of the topic that appeared viable to me. Next I re-entered the search term in that window I got and got something which after a mouse click led me to .. .. nothing again. Don't get me wrong, I like the minimalism but it's just a tad unhelpful. I also have AD beta installed which DID give me an answer after some prodding (screenshot added), so I'm guessing that's what I'll have to use for the moment. Bug, feature or me? (BTW, not to worry about the parallelogram, that turned out to be as stupidly easy as I was suspecting - no need for transformations ) Cheers, Binc
  21. While you are rewriting the beta versions of the Affinity Suite of applications in preparation for the next retail versions, please consider: 1. Make both the desktop version and the online version of the help files searchable by keywords and key phrases. (provide a search bar in every pane of the help menu files) 2. Produce "fuzzy search" results from any of several possible terms that might be used to search for the same help topic. (ex. A search for Typography, text, verbiage and writing might yield the same search results. or, keyboard, keyboard shortcuts and keyboard customization might yield the same results. (not that these are great examples, but hopefully, you get where I am coming from)) (This way, if a user is not certain how to phrase his/her search, they could still find what they are looking for)
  22. Hi there! I'm in charge of the senior photos (and yes, I know, the lightning is not perfect but It’s the best I can do with one shot box). This is a test image and I will try to get rid of the ripples in the greenscreen, but I am afraid it won't get much better. Can you help me find a way to efficiently remove the greenscreen from a sh*tton of photos? Maybe with batch processing? Sadly, I'm kind of a newbie and I appreciate ANY help and tips! TYSM! <3
  23. Hey guys! I am new to the affinity scene and just wondering if I can add a logo or photo behind something or someone? thanks :)
  24. Publisher It would be useful to a lot of users if the "Special characters and glyphs" page of the Help could give: * what each character looks like (if possible); * a short explanation of what it does, or what it can/should be used for; * a good visual example of where it has been used. Some characters are fairly self-explanatory - "Page Number", "Copyright", etc. - but some, such as (but not limited to) "Soft Hyphen", "Sixth Space", "Zero-Width Non-Joiner" and "Punctuation Space" are meaningless to people without a good DTP/printing background. I'm sure there are lots of explanations around the web but it would be nice if users didn't have to search for them. Obviously the Help isn't finished yet, but it would be a shame if this sort of useful information was omitted.
  25. I want to remove the white from this image, I've adjusted the Levels so the whites are completely white & blacks are completely black. I've gone to the selection tab & tried the 'Select sample colour' but i can't find a way to make it work. I've spent the last 3 hours looking at youtube tutorials, FAQ's & forums yet i have no idea what i'm doing right or wrong, please help.
