  1. Hello, I've been tasked with making a logo for a client of mine and have ran into a dead end basically at the very end. My issue is this, I have my completed artwork ready to export, I use the default (EPS for export) preset and created the file. When previewing my file on the default Macos image viewer it displays it correctly with my shapes, gradients etc. Now I want to take my EPS files and open them in Affinity Photo and Publisher, both for mockup and business card work respectively. My vector artwork has missing elements and the elements that did stick have wrong gradients/colors. I thought this was a issue with my document so I opened a new one but the problem persists. When opening the said eps file Publisher and Photo they will always display the same missing elements and artwork. Ive tried expanding the artwork but the issue persists. I have no idea what else to do, I can only come to a assumption that Affinity Designer can't export EPS correctly. I even selected the artwork and changed it to one of the default grays found in the swatches and when exporting it the artwork comes out intact!!! Below are the steps I did to come these same results every time along with screenshots. 1. At my original document where the logo was created I then selected the one I want to use. 2. Next hit the menu bar and choose export 3. From there choose EPS for export and for the AREA choose selection without background and leave the other options untouched. 4. For this example I made a folder and exported the file to that location my desktop. 5. Here you can see the file in the folder I created and the preview it ends up showing. * There is no text because it is colored white so its hidden here. 6. Here I'm going to open the file in Designer. Notice how the artwork and the gradient looks. > These are just shots of the same EPS opening in Publisher and Photo. > I copy and pasted the same artwork but changed it to one of the greys in the default Greys swatches panel. Here I opened the EPS and it came it out intact! In the end maybe I'm still doing something wrong with the way the export is. If someone can help me with this I would definitely appreciate it! I want to continue using Designer to make my branding, and logos, etc.
  2. Stroke width goes by increments of 0.1 pt, which is very coarse (also degrees when rotating and shearing an object). This means I can't even go by quarters in AD because it requires 2 decimal places (if using decimals). I'd like to see this changed to maybe 5 decimal places or just using fractions (for things like exact thirds). Gradient controls only go in increments of 1%. I'd like to see this drop to maybe 0.0001% and maybe add different gradient interpolation modes (like easing, cubic, hold, 1-bit dithering, etc.) and more cool stuff. Please give us more control than what Illustrator gives!
  3. I was sent this about a design I created and I was told the Quality would be bad because of a transparent gradient used is their a work around for this in the program. Can an underbase be applied and how is it done I'm fairly new to this

  5. I'm on the latest version of affinity designer, and have created a lot of isometric illustrstions. However, if I export my artwork to svg (web preset), and open them in sketch app, all the gradients are getting converted to images. I switched back to affinity to inspect these gradients, and I found these are just linear gradients without any special filters. If use the same gradients without isometric plane, the svg out retains its vector gradients, but exporting these with the isometric shapes, it's producing raster images. Is it a bug? Any solution to it. Because i have to do a lot of rework in that case. And it's not just sketch, but my front-end guys also showed me the number of images it has. let me know if you have any solution to it. Thanks
  6. Hello there, I was trying to replicate the reflections on a pic and this was the result.
  7. This is a video of me talking about a couple of the problems with how Designer deals with color, and likely Affinity Photo as well. And this video should explain at least somewhat well why the gradients are too dark. If there are any Affinity devs active here, a response/acknowledgement of the problem/solution from them would be appreciated. Thanks! P.S. Shortly after I made this vid, I actually did go and buy AD. So I hope even more now that these problems get fixed. Like the point I tried to make in the video, would these issues really be that hard to program out? affinitydesignerproblem.mp4
  8. I was wondering if there's a way to save gradient presets? If it's not available, I was wondering if that's part of the roadmap?
  9. I entered this in another thread (Questions) but thought I should repeat it here as a probably bug. ____ After editing gradients in AffPub for awhile, I can no longer bring up color editing options by clicking the Gradient color box. I tried quitting AffPub and bringing it up again but that did not work. I then rebooted my iMac and it worked again. Previously I've had the same problem in Designer but have not tried it recently so it may have been fixed. I am saving history during the day so it could be related to that. Is this a bug or simply RAM related? Later note: After rebooting the iMac, only having the one AffPub doc up (only a few hundred mg), and only editing one small box, the Gradient color box is no longer active when clicking click on it. Thus this must be a bug, something making the Gradient color box non-active after using it one time on one graphic. As you can imagine, I can't constantly reboot to edit a gradient. Thanks for any suggestions on this current and much appreciated beta. Still later note: It appears to remain active if I do not "close" the Gradient window. Could it be some bug in the closing and reopening code? Last note: I have found that leaving the Gradient window open and simply putting it to the side while working elsewhere, I can bring up its color editing options by clicking the Gradient color box. Therefore it appears that actually closing the Gradient window often makes the Gradient color box inactive. Might this be a bug?
  10. Creating and editing gradients in Affinity Designer is so easy. However, color editing in the Gradient Map of Affinity Publisher does not accept my editing, even if I enter the CYMK numbers after selecting the Gradient Map's color box. Is there a video or forum link on this topic? As yet I have not found it.
  11. I think I remember reading a post regarding this topic but when I searched again I didn't see anything. Is there a reason why "scale with object" is unchecked by default for EVERYTHING. I don't see the relevance in having it turned off by default. FX, gradients, strokes, etc. I think when I read the post a month ago or so it said it was intended to be this way. I don't remember reading a legitimate reason but can we, or is there already an option to turn it on by default? That would save me SO much time and is an easy fix. I would rather uncheck it on the rare occasion I don't want something to scale with an object.
  12. Hi, I’m trying to create a gradient that is curved or warped. I’m not sure if this is possible. Any help would be appreciated
  13. Is there a way to add multiply gradients to a shape on AD? Like adding different gradients to 4 corners of an square
  14. Hi...I have some questions as I've been learning ADesign..... I've made some styles, using "create style" button. They are saving as an afdesign file and not a stdesign. How do I change this? I've been opening objects from photoshop in psd format and selecting a style from there then try to save the object highlighted. It has saved two styles that are simple. It saved a couple styles that came up blank. And it didn't do anything for the other objects I opened. Is this a bug because I know I'm doing it correctly and I do see the pop up if the style is glitter. Do any of the boards on the screen move? Like the layer effects, swatches, brushes, etc.? Can they be separated? What is the difference between styles and text styles? Can I change the main transparency color to white or black, but it still continues to be a transparency? When I create an object, the line around the object is much bigger that the objects...how can I save it so the line is closer? Sorry for all the questions...I'm still learning and I've watched a bunch of videos, but I didn't find answers to these questions. Thank you! In this screen it shows the styles...three of them are blank. Why are they saving like this? Thanks
  15. Hi, all, A sample from something i've been working on for the last month. A drawing made from a rather poor cell phone camera shot. Knowing the guy, I liked the expression from the photo as he sat outside on a cool day in the sunlight. The colors are based on those that might have been used up to 500 years ago. Ochre, green earth, indigo, azurite mixed w. chalk. Sort of an illustration for a short story.

  17. It seems like the issue has been around for a while. If you apply global colors to a gradient - they do not update when you modify the global colors themselves. Is there a way to have either a 'global gradient' or a way to properly link global colors into a gradient?

    Gradient Pack - uiGradient.com

As a web designer, I find websites like uiGradients.com a quite useful resource, with a massive selection of ready-made gradients (and css code for those). This palette is a complete (01.09.2018) pack of all gradients alongside their names, hand-imported over the course of an afternoon and a few podcasts. I don't think you can copyright colors/gradients, but the GitHub repository of the uiGradients.com website is licensed under MIT. I'll try to keep the file up to date with the website, but if there's a missing gradient or a error, please tell me about it. Enjoy: uiGradients.com.zip (A preview will follow soon)
  19. Hello, I’ve searched through existing posts (see short list below) but it’s not clearly stated if those requests have been added to the development list or out of consideration. (They don’t appear to be reflected in the roadmap unless I’m missing a reference.) Is it possible to get clarification as to whether Affinity has plans to support: Ability to import Photoshop and Illustrator 'Preset' files / styles: Most Important:Gradients: .grd file extension Styles: .asl file extension Patterns: .pat file extensionIncluding preset pattern fills (related post by someone else is referenced below) Moderately important but could live without:Color Swatches: .aco file extension Custom Shapes: .csh file extension I have a huge library of the above (gradients, styles, and patterns in particular) that I'd rather not lose (or have to recreate) by switching to Affinity Designer. Somewhat-related forum posts: Import .ase and .aco files: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/1483-import-palette…-importing-ase-and-aco-files/ Import Photoshop and vector brushes: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/532-import-photoshop-and-vector-brushes/ Vector pattern fills, custom vector brushes, dotted lines: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/1913-vector-pattern-fills-custom-vector-brushes-dotted-lines/ (This one in particular, it’s stated that vector pattern fills are not yet in the roadmap; does that mean that it’s out of consideration, or just that it’s not coming in the near future?) Thank you for any clarification you can provide. Regards, --S
  20. Here is the set of gradients "WEB 2.0 v.3" converted from the free .grd Photoshop file. I downloaded the PS gradient file from this site and converted it into .afpalette. It's a pity that creating .afpalette files from .grd files is so time-consuming, I hope that in the upcoming versions of Affinity programs, the ability to import the .grd file will be added, just like it is with files .abr WEB 2.0 v.3 gradients.afpalette

  22. I would like the ability to go back and adjust or edit a gradient after applying it. Currently we must redraw a new gradient.
  23. Affinity Photo Reset individual included Swatches to Default. For example one may want to reset Greys or Colors or Gradients to default after adding those that you no longer need.
  24. One of the main reasons I prefer Designer over Illustrator is because of the dithered gradients... My quality of work has increased DRASTICALLY because of it and I no longer need to rely on a 2nd software like photoshop for high quality gradients. The thing is though that its only supported in gradient fill... Gradient Overlays & other effects like shadows, glows, etc. - Nope! So my request is kinda plain and simple... Why not bring dithering for effects too...?! I've faced multiple banding issues here and there... Please acknowledge if doable... (P.S. I've attached a sample of my work... So you see what I mean...)
  25. is there a way to save gradients to the swatch pallet ? i can save colors. thanks
