  1. I am getting some issues with PDF exports when applying Effects (FX) to images under other layers with FX. As you can see from the attached files, the Exported PDF has the bitmap image (with Blur FX applied) 'bleeding' into the effects on higher layers. Once I remove the blur FX from the 'bubbly water' bitmap, the issue disappears. Boiler TEST.afpub Test Export B.pdf Test Export.pdf
  2. Hello everybody! I just wanted to let you know that FX Monkey's second free pack for Affinity Photo is out! Faux 96: 8 Color presets and 4 Overlay Textures. Click the image below for more info (the website looks pretty cool though, so check it out! It has some hints on whats coming next too...ohh) P.S.: The previous Monkey Pack - Faux 77 is no longer available for download. A thousand thanks to all the people who grabbed a copy! Faux 77 was a teaser for a soon to come premium Monkey Pack: Faux 77 pro (more than 20 macros + Textures), so get your hands on Faux 96 while it's still available :) Enjoy guys!
  3. I've come across this just a few times but it's pretty annoying when it happens. When you select a preset style (ex. "glass"), it creates a layer effect but no properties are set in the effects panel...except opacity. There are about 5 other places to adjust opacity in AD but the one on the effects panel is extremely difficult to find when there is no indication there is "FX" attached to that layer. Hard to explain but it's a very real issue imo. If a layer style is selected and the only thing changing in the actual effects panel is opacity, there should still be an indicator showing "FX" attached to the layer. I can take screenshots to explain further if absolutely necessary but I honestly don't have the time right now.
  4. When you double-click the sliders in layer fx to get them to return to default, they do so, but then immediately snap back to their adjusted position. Like they were attached with elastic bands.
  5. I think I remember reading a post regarding this topic but when I searched again I didn't see anything. Is there a reason why "scale with object" is unchecked by default for EVERYTHING. I don't see the relevance in having it turned off by default. FX, gradients, strokes, etc. I think when I read the post a month ago or so it said it was intended to be this way. I don't remember reading a legitimate reason but can we, or is there already an option to turn it on by default? That would save me SO much time and is an easy fix. I would rather uncheck it on the rare occasion I don't want something to scale with an object.
  6. It would be great if Affinity apps introduced Layer Effects (FX) masks, initially only one master mask for all effects, and perhaps even better, individual masks also available for each effect. Thanks for your consideration and all you do. Affinity apps are awesome!
  7. Hey all! I’m trying to learn this program by copying existing Logos (i thought it would be a good exercise!) i chose to tackle the Toyota one, as it looked sorta simple at first. i’ve attached my working file as well as a jpg, with circles on my current problem Now i know this is pretty rough, and I haven’t figured out all my shapes very well, BUT i can’t figure out why the 3D FX is rounding the corner of the bevel instead of keeping it sharp! anything i’m missing?! Thanks very much! Untitled.afdesign
  8. Some times it is very convinient to have multiple layer effects of same times. For example i want to have 2 inner shadow effects applied to same level one for highlights and one for shade. It is on actually on roadmap.
  9. I have a shape (Stroke + Fill), with Outer shadow (fx). Add Gradient overlay (fx), and Colour overlay (fx), .and Inside Outline (fx). Now I set Opacity or Blend mode for Outline. To my great surprise will not start to shine Color overlay, or Gradient overlay, or Shape (his Stroke and Fill), but Shadow! I expected the Shape stack with fx to look as follows, but using the Outline will probably cut everything under it, except for the shadow. Is this a bug, or is it an expected feature? Thank you Edit: Current implementation (object trimming) I understand. Outline is "line out of object". In order to achieve this in all circumstances (even when selecting Inside and Center alignment), the object must be trimmed. Then it is strange if the shadow is formed by the original object, but not by the trimmed. In any case, it would be advisable to point out this destructive behavior (object trimming) in help. Thank you
  10. As a long-type PhotoShop user, I am used to being able to copy layer effects (fx) from one layer to another. This could be done with a context menu selection. I have not found this capability in Affinity Photo. Does it exist? I found another user had posted an answer regarding another of your products, but I don't see that feature in Affinity Photo. Thanks for your input.
  11. Affinity Designer 1.6.5.123 Using Erase layer with Layer FX doesn't work when the layer is inside an Artboard layer. Works okay outside the artboard layer, see attached file. Working layers are on the right, left layers are the same but inside an Artboard layer. bad erase.afdesign
  12. I apologize if this topic was already covered. I searched and found nothing quite like the problem I am having. Summary: Brushes, strokes, and effect are limited in how far up they can be scaled, limiting the overall size of the image created. I have a small bullet-like object created on the iPad. After opening the file on my desktop app I realized it is too small, so I scale it up. As you can see, from the attached image, the brush strokes and effects don't scale up even though I have the stroke's Scale with Object selected. I tried to resize the gaussian blur effect, but it is limited (won't blur enough). So, I am assuming then that effects such as Gaussian blur, noise, and simple things like stroke thickness are somewhat limited when you use them in large works. Is that assumption correct? And what about brush textures? Those are bitmaps right, so how far can those be upscaled before losing clarity? Will creating larger brush textures remedy the problem, and will AD have vector brushes in the future? For now, I hope that by exporting to the final size the quality will be high enough to be used. Thoughts or ideas? Thanks -Bill
  13. It would be great to be able to select the order of FX on shapes. Oftentimes I want to blur the shape of a vector object, but not necessarily the noise setting in its color. Perhaps adding Checkbox to the Blur FX panel to bypass blurring the Noise attribute? Thanks for your consideration and all you do
  14. Please, make it happen! A lot of us needs an animation alternative for Flash/Animate/After Effects, fully compatible with other Affinity programs. If not, maybe adding the animation inside affinity designer (a timeline) as Photoshop have to make animated GIF? Thank you, love you guys!
  15. Please add a radial blur to FX list, or just expand the Guassian blur options to include different blurs. Thanks.
  16. Hello, In Affinity Designer I noticed that whenever I change the Constraints configuration for an object the "outer" effects on it stop working. In the linked video I have an outline shadow for each "row" on my design. When I change the constraints the shadow disappears - you can see a very fine line where it should be, like if it's been cropped. I have tested this with Outline Shadow and Outline Glow with large radius to the same result. Inner Shadow and Inner Glow are not affected by it. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2273140/ad-windows10-drop-shadow-constraint.mp4 Thanks
  17. Hello there! I haven't shared this tutorial here, yet it's one of our most popular ones, so here you have. We'll show you how to create some delicious popsicles using simple shapes and Affinity Designer's FX Panel, we'll be also relying on Clipping Masks to speed thing up... all in all, a super quick and fun tutorial, for all those who want some refreshment in their illustration skills. Click on the image to read the tutorial, if it doesn't work, go HERE . Hope you enjoy this one, Enrique.
  18. I’ve read a couple of topics about gradient overlay FX. On my I pad I find that I can only change the color on the left stop, can not delete a stop and can not move a stop. However, if I turn that effect OFF and then I turn it ON again, I can then change color of any stop, can delete a stop and can move a stop.
  19. Every time I try to export a file to PSD that has any layers with FX on them, I get an error message. If I rasterize those layers, along with their effects, it will then export. However, that defeats the whole purpose of exporting to PSD to be able to later edit the layers in Photoshop. Please fix this bug!!

    Background blur?

Any chance there will be background blur in Affinity apps?
  21. Hi guys, I just bought Affinity Designer, after reading reviews and watching a few tutorials on youtube, and I was very excited. I started using it, and I love the interface, the fact that it's extremely easy to use and intuitive, and everything was fine and dandy, until I added a few shapes and added effects to them (drop shadow, gradient overlay, outline). After adding 5-7 shapes, Affinity Designer became extremely slow. The lag between my action and what happened on the screen is extremely noticeable, and when I drag shapes there's a huge bleeding effect besides the delay of the movement. Right now, for me, it's unusable, is there a fix coming soon for this? Did anyone else experience this? I don't have an extremely strong system, but Photoshop runs pretty good on my machine, so I was expecting AD to run perfectly, based on the reviews I read. My system: Windows 7 64 bit RAM: 8GB Intel Core i5-4690, 3.50 GHz Nvidia Geforce GTX 750

    Disable FX?

Maybe I'm missing something, but when fx are disabled for a layer, the icon disappears, which makes it difficult to go back later to enable it. It seems like sometimes the settings are still there, but how to know which layers had effects on them? It would be helpful to to use a UI like you have for adjustments and filters. Thanks.
  23. Need some advice...help.... I have an image consisting of a number of layers. I wish to use “outer glow effect” on one of the layers. I select that layer and go to fx studio. There I can switch on “outer glow”, and reduce opacity, but I don’t have any controls over the bottom of the page, that i need to adjust aspects of the glow...nothing there. This is the same for all listed effects. I have seen videos where outer shadow has been used...and there are controls across the bottom of the screen governing depth, transparency etc.....i just cant get them. There are no tutorials for iPad that i can find on using effects. Have I missed something here? I have reloaded the images and restarted Affinity a number of times...the fx controls don’t appear. Have I missed something? I could easily manipulate fx on the same image on my MacBook to produce the desired effect...using the controls available. I just cant seem to get them on the iPad. Any suggestions? Affinity Photo 1.6.5.61 ipad Pro 12.9 iOS 11.1
  24. Hello guys, I was playing around with the FX effects which are great. However I was wondering if you still plan Multiple Effects/Fills/Strokes per shape? In the past I was using SketchApp, which introduced the possibility to apply add basic effects to your shapes/group of shapes (as shown in the attached images). I found this very powerful, because you could easily combine basic effects into advanced effects, and honestly your imagination was the only limit. In Affinity Designer, the effects are OK, but you could push it a bit further if you let the user compose its own FX combinations. For example, I wouldn't need a bewel FX if I can combine two inner shadows effects, no? Cheers, DrM0lek
  25. I have created this scene that contains lots of individual blades of grass, with the sun in the sky: If you look at the left half of the grass blades, I tried to apply an effect using gradient overlay, but it really does not look that great. I would like to have it look like the sunlight is being reflected off the right side of each of the blades in a somewhat realistic appearance. I know there are probably many different ways to achieve this in AD, but can you share a way that has worked well for you? Another question - is this the appropriate venue to ask questions like this?
