  1. Besides using A. Designer tools to create more elaborate illustrations, I also like to use it in more simple designs, like for instance cartoons. I created “Doodle with Sign” as a comic side project, also inspired by the “Dude with Sign” viral street performance. The visual concept is defined by minimal ink lines and a vintage graphic aesthetic. The 2nd. image is the intro image I created for posting this cartoon in slide mode, in certain social networks. Note: “Olive Thistle” is my alias for cartoons. Enjoy!
  2. I was just doodling with some shapes to try out the improved 'expand stroke', and this is what emerged. It started out as a coupe of cogs and an ellipse and a few Boolean operations, followed by a bit of inspiration and tweaking of nodes. When I was knee-high to a sketch pad, my grandfather -- a talented draughtsman -- told me to invoke inspiration by making a random scribble and seeing what it suggested. Good to see the technique still works in the digital age!
  3. Drawing created from doodle on iPhone. A little tidying up in Affinity Designer.
  4. Hi there, I'm mainly do 3D work with CINEMA 4D lately and I felt that I already forgotten everything I learned about Affinity Designer, so I decided to actually use the just released new version to make something quick. Ended up recreating some flat visuals I saw on the net and put my "own" spin on it. Nothing special, I'm still happy about it. Also I noticed that my main trouble with Affinity Designer is still getting color values from A to B, btw., something wrong with my understanding of the workflow there, I guess.
  5. So let me first start off by saying I am a visual designer. I do graphic work, but I have been trying to draw more lately. I spend a lot of my time doing corporate branding type work. Now that Affinity Designer is here it really has freed me from the Adobe world. I am not very good at drawing directly into the computer( I really not as good at drawing as I want to be either) and to be honest I prefer to step away from the screen and doodle in a sketchpad. After I am done doodling I take a picture of my work with my phone and import my drawing. I use the drawing tools to trace, alter, clean up, and embellish my work. This is my first go beyond doodling and it was all completed in Affinity Designer! I did not experience one crash. The program is as fast, smooth and intuitive as they say. I am looking forward to growing with this application! So much to learn so little hours in a day! Thanks guys! You really are putting a powerful and respectable tool in our hands!
  6. Another doodle. Mostly simple shapes in affinity design help create this guy. Update: update: pixel brushes used to add some texture to his clothing and hat
  7. I really should have titles this WIP: Disclaimer (This is really just a test I using really loose brush strokes on this and nothing really been cleaned up. ) So, this was just a quick little test in shading. I saw the movie, love the character so, why not draw him he seem to be be a simple study for shading techniques. :)
  8. So tonights late night doodle is dedicated to the special lady in my life... Ok maybe this was an excuse to play with creating my own custom brushes. I am building a nice little collection of brushes. So tonight was about brushes and mixing up some vectors with some pixels all in one image. You work in this application long enough you start jumping between the pixel and Draw Persona and you dont even think twice. I love to know what everyone interpretation of the story is in this image. (Squirrel) ohh did I mention I say Big Hero 6 the movie today? Go see it !!! It is worth every bit of the coin. Anyway enjoy.
  9. So I find that sometimes when you mess around trying to figure ways of doing thing you tend to stumble across new things. I encourage tinkering around you might stumble across something interesting you can use in your work later. I was messing around with creating my own pixel based texture brush and I came across something interesting. I could actually make a somewhat fake 3d brush from a shaded rounded brush.
  10. Tonight doodle was to see what i could make without drawing it in my sketch pad first. No pen tablet was used either, I retrained myself to just a mouse and a dream.....
