  1. Hello sir, I have already reported this bug in following link but that is left undone .. !!! Screen Recording 2020-10-30 at 8.47.23 PM-1.mp4
  2. I want from image one to image two... The best way I found was creating my paths, expand them and divide, so i can delete everything outside the shape.... and I got image 3... that would be a damn painful lot of work to clean this mess up. Is there no better way around... or way to do it at all? Divide is a mess in this programm... and let me guess, there is no live paint bucket tool?
  3. Every time I use the dividing tool the app is instantly closed on ipad
  4. As many of you I recently moved from Illustrator / Photoshop to Affinity's alternatives because of the pricing issue. Design has become more of a hobby, and I can't justify a monthly subscription. Overall, I am really impressed with the applications (Designer / Photo, mac and iPad), but one thing I really painfully miss from Illustrator, though, is I heavily relied on the Pathfinder, more specifically the "Divide" operation. I was used to, for example, divide shapes using a curve, or divide multiple shapes to very reliably. As many pointed out, the experience in Designer is less than perfect - for one, you can only combine shapes with other shapes, and even so, in simple divisions, you get a ton of unwanted curves spliced off the intersections. I saw a bunch of posts describing the problem, but not really a lot of workarounds or solutions. So I'm writing this post to see if I can get something a little more constructive than 'Divide is still garbage' comments. So I guess I have 2 questions. One for the dev team: Where does this fall on your roadmap? Can you shed a light on if and when can we expect to see reliable divides integrated on the app? Another for the community: Do you have some good techniques / workarounds that you've found to overcome the divide limitations that you could share? Thanks in advance!
  5. Would be nice if you could add this. I know I can achieve it by closing open curve, but Illustrator does it and it's useful.
  6. Designer on Windows 10 Home 1909. See my attached short video for some unexpected results after using the Divide function on two simple shapes. First application: Additional circle is created and rectangle has no hole. Second application: Shapes divided as expected leaving circle and rectangle with hole. Third application: Shape with no form created while rectangle has expected hole. Original file is also attached. 2020-05-07 12-28-23.mp4 unusual divide results.afdesign
  7. hello designers . i need some help in my practical logo design , i am a new affinity user and i do not know how to this logo by golden ratio , so if anyone can help me please tell me how to this , thanks. Desktop 2020.05.02 -
  8. I think Boolean - Divide tool has problem as attached video. divide.mp4
  9. Almost every time I run a boolean operation to divide or unite vector curves in AD, it freezes on me as shown in attached image. I have to force quit and restart the app and try again in smaller doses or move it to Illustrator and try again there. I have an iMac with 12GB of RAM - I don't know if the issue is I need more RAM, or if it's still a bug Affinity is fixing? I ordered more RAM recently, so I'll be able to try it again after installing it to see - but I wanted to see if anyone had any info pertaining to this issue - thanks!
  10. I am working with astro photos, converting the raw image to 16 bit TIFF images and stacking them. I have a few suggestions for you that would make my work smoother. I would be very grateful if you would implemented them. Suggestion 1: Would it be possible to change the default stack operator, like in the settings? I commonly use mean value rather than median value, and always have to correct it. Suggestion 2: Using Levels Adjustment, I have noticed that it is indeed possible to use decimal values for Black Levels, for instance 1.5 %, although this is not documented. This is very useful when working with 16 bit images. However, the value shown will always be the rounded integer value, in this case 2, even when the decimal value is used. Would it be possible to show a decimal digit, at least for levels below 10% ? Like, it would show 1.5% as the decimal value 1.5% instead of the integer value 2%. Suggestion 3: When working with astro photos it is very common to first subtract the dark current image, and then divide with a flatfield image. Subtraction is easy to do using the Subtract mode, but how to perform division is not so easy to find. By googling I have found that division is indeed possible to do by adding the flatfield image layer, adding an Invert Adjustment layer to it, and then changing to Colour Dodge mode. Since this is a "hidden" feature, would it be possible for you to simply combine these two steps into one, and name it Divide mode? A good reason for this: Any serious astro photographer who fails to find this hidden feature when searching the current documentation, and mistakenly rejects the usefulness of Affinity Photo because of this, would be pleasantly surprised to find that the feature does exist. P.S. I am currently using Affinity Photo 1.8.2 on a Mac.
  11. Hello, when I draw a line with as a stroke, I cannot cut the shape! As it can be seen in the video, I would want to cut the right-hand shape, like the shape on the left side but I cannot cut the shape with strokes ? I found another solution digging deep and I realized that I have "expand" the stroke then I would be able to execute the operation. However, with regular stroke, I would not be able to cut the shape? cut shape with stroke.mp4
  12. I am extremely new to working with vector art...and affinity, please forgive my lack of correct terminology. I am trying to go from the first picture with a blue prop (It is colored blue for clarity) to the second picture . This is for screen printing. Everything in the dark blue is supposed to be shirt. On the 2nd picture, I have been trying to subtract/ divide that part of the stroke of the ellipse so that it cuts the stroke into the aircraft and prop. I have tried converting the ellipse to curves, as well. If at all possible, I'd like for the fill of the prop to reach the outer edge of the "subtracted" stroke. Note* the windows have already been subtracted Question: I think I figured out part of what I was doing wrong...trying to subtract more than one layer will make things disappear?
  13. I'm working thru the Designer workbook in 1.7.1 on my Mac, and when I try the ice cream cone geometry boolean exercise, I'm seeing something strange with the divide exercise. It took me a while to figure out the illustration was only after they had (unwritten) manually repositioned the major pieces to show it. However, when I do the divide with the 4 large original shapes I get a total of 58 curves including 48 tiny sliver slices in addition to the major resulting pieces. That can't be the way the divide tool should work should it? Erich
  14. Hello everyone! (I am new here, so pardon me if I posted my issue in the wrong category.) I've been playing around with Affinity Designer on and off for the past year and a half. I really want to fully transition to Designer (coming from Illustrator), but I keep bumping into the same little annoying issues that would make my workflow painfully slow. One issue in particular has to do with the Boolean operations. I've seen this question raised a few times on the forum before, but no solution so far. Will there ever be? The problem It appears that the Boolean Divide action doesn't work well with shapes that have one or more overlapping edges. The result is a big mess. You either get the compound shape partially divided or not at all. Then you would also get those pesky thin "hair" lines coming out parts of the resulted group. Artifacts... artifacts everywhere! Anyone can replicate this issue in a matter of seconds with basic shapes. Create a square and a circle of the same size. Apply different fills. Align them to the center of the spread and make sure that the square is behind the circle in order to see the individual pieces better. Divide both shapes using the Boolean actions panel. Normally you should have the four corners of the square that are seen outside the circle cut into separate pieces. The result would be 5 shapes in total (including the ellipse in the center). However, Affinity Designer has something else in mind (see images below). I have given up hope that they will fix this bug. Therefore, can anyone suggest an alternative work-around method for this issue instead? Thanks in advance!
  15. See my screen cap - in Illustrator I would select both elements, click on the Intersect function, resulting in two editable shapes. In Affinity Design tho, I get an empty canvas and layer "(Curve)." I just want to divide the ellipse shape into two editable elements. What am I doing wrong?
  16. I can never seem to get the ADD, SUBTRACT, DIVIDE, COMBINE functions to work right, can someone please tell me what I may be doing wrong or if it's something with the software settings? https://screencast-o-matic.com/watch/cqfeDnZfQU
  17. Hello! I have been using AD for awhile now, but everytime I tried to make a logo or something 'geometrical', always ends up in confusion and frustration :D Here is what I meant I try to divide any shape (with fill or just the outline) that I aligned carefully, but always ends up some gap. . . . and sometimes I even need to open 'so cracked illustrator' to make this thing smoothly and export it to AD... :( Need help :D Appreciate every response :)
  18. Hi, I have a problem. When I want to divide like a donut, one circle inside another, I can't get what I expect. A hole in a circle and another circle that was inside. Instead what I get is three circles, like in the 2nd image.
  19. Sometimes, when you divide some curved shapes the result are so many extralayers and curves. If the operation involves curves and some intersection, the amount of layers are so vast that crashes my laptop. As an example, create an elipse, copy the layer four times and arrange the elipse as a veen diagram (check the attached image 1). if you select the four elipses and divide them you will get what you expected: 8 curves. However, if before dividing the curves you have a fifth elipse and place it in the center of the diagram, select the five elipses and divide them, instead of 16 curves, you will get 152 curves. (check the attached image 2).
  20. Leprechaun 2019 Initial inking This is the first in a series of videos detailing my process of vector inking my shirt design for the upcoming St Patrick's Day 5k. In these first two steps, I trace my approved sketch with a tapered vector brush in Affinity Designer, intentionally overlapping my lines so that in step two, I can divide them where they cross and delete away the excess portions. I've been making an effort to do more and more of my workflow in Affinity Designer instead of my standard Illustrator app so part of this process was exploration and trying out new tools and methods. I'm still hoping we get an eraser and a blob tool (amongst other features) to make this process a little easier. Also - the combine boolean leaves behind a TON of nodes in its wake... is that something being addressed?
  21. Okay.... gush this is a nightmare and actually an easy task in adobe illustrator.... so, I have this two forms: and i want to cut out the upper part, like this: first thing i tried, was substract, which doesn't work at all, so i went the old way and used divide and like illustrator i got many little parts. Okay, i cut everything out and get this: and now i only need to combine those lose parts, in illustrator it's "unite". Here, we have "add" and "combine" . So, i cklick on "add"and HOLY MOLLY, what a mess: even if i select only two individual parts and try to combine them, doesn't work. ... tried combine too, but it's still loading, after 76 minutes... every time I try to cancel it with esc, the program bugs completely out. (i can click on icons but it doesn't do anything) ... So, how the heck do I divide and combine my objects correctly? Edit: I know, i can create a path and cut out the upper part with ease but sometimes i just like taking this approach...
  22. Hi there! I'm astonished with Affinity Designer for ipad! I'm almost completely transitioned from my PC to iPad, just need a few more options. Suggestion #1: Select BY SAME FILL COLOR This is very important for professional work :) For example, if a group of objects (or shapes) are overlapping, what we need to do is to select them all, and divide them. After they are divided, we need to click on "Add" to merge the shapes together, and that's fine. But if we have a LARGE number of SMALL shapes, merging one by one can take forever. So, option "Select by (the same) Color" is very important and time saving for us designers. How I think it should be done: Solution 1. Click and hold the color (from toolbox) with pencil, or with finger, and while holding it select (with your left hand) three dots icon "..." and then choose "Select all" Solution 2. Add a new icon named "Select Same Color", or similar. Suggestion #2: SHAPE EFFECTS For me, as a Vintage illustrations and Logo designs fan, I would like to have a ARC LOWER, ARC UPPER, AND (possible) ARC tools. For example: Netflix logo. How I think it should be done: 1. After typing "Netflix" for example, convert curves, and than click on new icon set named "shape effects", than click on "Lower arc", or "Upper Arc". OK, that's for now, If I missed these options, if they already exist in same/similar form, please let me know.
  23. Hey guys, I'm trying to divide (or something) the shapes in the attached example. Basically I wanna cut the dark red shape from the black shape, so that the black shape will have an empty circle where the dark red circle is. How do I do that? I tried divide, but that only works the way I want it to only if the shapes don't overlap completely. Thanks divide-test.afdesign
  24. The Pathfinder equivalent tool found in Affinity Designer needs some work. I tend to create logos by overlapping shapes, using the divide tool, deleting the excess then recombining them to get rid of the lines. This works perfectly in Illustrator, however when trying the same method in Affinity Designer, I'm left with stray points and lines, it's essentially just combining the shapes like a group instead of merging. The space in between is to minuscule to be shifted manually. I don't know if it has something to do with you 1,000,000x Zoom, but the tool should somehow be reworked to allow the combination of cut shapes where the edges seemingly touch. Precision is great, but this is too much a distance a line thickness away shouldn't count. Even better give the option to toggle in on an off like you do magnetic tool. I'm currently using 1.42 and there seems to be a Memory leak issue when using the Pathfinder tools. If I highlight a bunch of objects to join, the program will hang, and the memory will slowly dwindle until most of my computer freezing causing me to force quit.
