  1. According to the manual it should be possible to set a color profile when exporting a document. However, I have found no such setting. It should also be possible to create an export setting that includes a color profile, but I can’t find that setting either. The whole color profiling is a bit mysterious for me. Of course I do understand what it is used for, but how all the settings interact is less understandable. At the moment when I develop a raw image, I will use the RGBA/32 (HDR) ROMM RGB setting. As far as I understand this will guarantee that I will keep the maximum color information in the document. When exporting the document I should give it a color profile that corresponds to the use of the exported document. sRGB should be fine for web images, a color profile for Fuji paper (for instance) when I export a JPG to be printed. Using such profiles will remove color information, so I understand. When I visited the website of the European Color Initiative, I noticed that they have the eciRGB profiles for digital photography, however these are not incorporated in the standard Affinity software. (I did install them). I’m still trying to find some kind of publication that will explain how color profiles for monitors, printers, and documents (“JPG” etc.) interact.
  2. I have a X-Rite ColorMunki Display to calibrate my screens. It even has support for iPad/iPhone, so I calibrated my iPad Pro 12.9" Mk.I with it and my iPhone 7 too. I can use an app called ColorTRUE to view my photos in real color on my iPad/iPhone. X-Rite says that other apps can be made to use the ColorTRUE profiles, so they will show true colors. As a photographer on the go, I often don't bring my heavy laptop with me with the calibrated screen and I rely on my iPad Pro 12.9" Mk.1 (which by the way has a terrible calibrated screen out of the factory). I edit a photo in Affinity Photo for iPad, export it and then check the real colors in the ColorTRUE app. Then go back to Affinity Photo and adjust colors, white balance, etc. if I need to. This is very cumbersome. If Affinity Photo for iPad could use the ColorTRUE Profile of my iPad, this cumbersome work around would not exist and I could use my iPad for more color critical photo work more easily. Are there plans for Affinity Photo for iPad to use ColorTRUE profiles? If not, are you willing to think about it? This would really make Affinity Photo for iPad justify the Pro in iPad Pro IMHO!
  3. Can some printing wizard please tell me if this profile is equivalent to any of the present profiles shipping with AD or if I have to download it? I don´t want to spam my system and I´m trying hard to get an overview about these printing demands. AD has FOGRA 27,28,29.39 but this profile seems to be FOGRA 51/52, is there any reason for not including it? As far as I understand it it´s the modern version of some other of the previously listed. Thanks in advance!
  4. Profile with Dot Gain is necessary since printing companies specify certain dot gain for grayscale file to be received. It's usually 15%/20%/30%
  5. I just installed Affinity photo (Windows desktop) on my HP desktop and on a Surface Pro 4. Upon setting up the RGB color preference I discovered that on the HP, there are 19 color profile options which includes ProPhoto RGB. While on the Surface there are just 9 color profile options and the ProPhoto RGB profile is not included. Is this to be expected? How do I get ProPhoto RGB on the Surface?
  6. Hi Everyone, In the need to understand the sometimes complex subject of Color Models, Color Spaces and Color Profiles better, I found it hard to find a nice to read and complete source on the matter. So after I did a deep dive into the subject I decided to share what I've learned about it by writing a tutorial blog about it with illustrations and interactives. Yesterday I published part one about Color Models and color basics, to pave the way to Color Spaces for the next and last part of the article. Although not directly Affinity related, I figured this could benefit other Affinity users too in understanding Color Spaces better and when to choose which in Designer and Photo. And making Color Spaces a little less confusing to understand. Of coarse all graphics-work for illustrations and interactives in the tutorial are made in Affinity Designer. The blog is available in both Dutch (https://www.wigglepixel.nl/blog/wat-zijn-color-models/) and translated in English (https://www.wigglepixel.nl/en/blog/what-are-color-models/). Hope you like it and if this makes others understand the subject better and as enthousiastic as I am now about it after this, I reached my goal! Maarten
  7. In my previous post I received some help in regards to what settings to use in AD for your color profile, now as I continue to do my Lets Make Shapes project or Spacetronauts I realized that I can't put them on Redbubble or Inprnt because of different colors. Which the previous solution was : "The color profile you want to use as the Designer document is setup to use Wide Gamut RGB. If when exporting click on More and change the ICC profile to sRGB this should be closer to what you are wanting, for posting on the Web" - Lee D Now what I am wondering is what color profiles to use in scenario for printing your digital artworks? Because on Redbubble : "Our garment printers only print in the CMYK format so we recommend designing in this colour spectrum as it will give you a better idea of how the final product will look. You will still need to convert to sRGB colour profile to get your works looking as glorious as possible on the site." - And seeing all of my designs for AD has been designed in the solution posted above, will I be able to convert them to CMYK without losing much of the color choices? Thanks in advance!
  8. CMYK colors appear dark & dull upon PDF export from Publisher (see Color-differences attached) I set up my document to be convert to CMYK US Web Coated Swap V2. In the color panel I locked colorspace to CMYK. I've tried virtually every combination of PDF export settings, including convert color profile unchecked and then checked. Why is there this discrepancy in colors? Product Excellence Flyer 2.afpub
  9. Hi all, I recently updated to Affinity Photo from 1.6.5.x through the Windows Store and now every image that I open, whether it's an *.afphoto, DNG, JPEG, PNG etc., opens way too dark. Documents created in previous versions are also rendered way too dark but are exported with the right colours and brightness, while new documents result in overly exposed images, more like as if the gamma went through the ceiling. The samples available in the Welcome screen also seem to not match the snapshots available on the Windows Store. From the same snapshots I also noticed that the icon for the Photo persona also seems darker. The "Color" panel also gets way too dark. My device: Windows Store snapshot: Software configurations: I tried running the trial version of Affinity Photo 1.6.5 (got it from the Downloads page) and the problem now seems to happen there as well My device is the Dell XPS 9570, running Windows 10 1903 with Intel UHD Graphics 630 (driver version 25.20.100). This issue also affects Affinity Designer but every other app on my system works just fine. Ideas?
  10. Hi all! Im new to higher end printing at home and was so excited to get my new Canon Pro 100 printer. But... What I see on the screen and what is printing are 2 different things ! My image is dull and missing the saturation of colour that should be there. And its not a hardware issue. Ive become overloaded on canon and youtube tutorials about calibration for monitor and printers and all that jazz. I have no idea where to start and need a basic 1-2-3 [if thats ;possible] to get things more in sync. I know this printer is capable of greatness and so is Affinity, so very grateful for your suggestions!
  11. I am using the Affinity Photo program for Windows 10. Does the Affinity Photo program automatically use the the default ICC profile that is set in Windows Color Management? In Affinity Photo Preferences there are two settings, "RGB Color Profile" and "32 bit RGB Color Profile". These settings have the "sRGB IEC61966-2.1" text entered. Do I leave these settings with their current settings, or do I enter the name of the profile that is set as the default profile in Windows Color Management? And do I set the program to "Embed ICC Profile" when exporting JPG files? I do not know how to think through this situation to obtain the correct settings. Perhaps someone can provide enough information so I can confidently use the color management settings of the Affinity Photo program.
  12. Hi all, I'm relatively new to photography and affinity photo (on a Mac, OS Mojave) , but I was loading some photos in from my Canon EOS Rebel T6 and the photo seems to opens with a wildly different color profile. The screenshot shows the same file opened in preview and affinity photo unedited. I just installed Affinity Photo on this computer so I haven't changed any default settings, etc. I'm not sure where to start with loading this back to "default" so the RAW photo opens with the proper color scheme. 13. Hi, Could you please add a new item in the Color Profile, "None" or "Undefined", sometimes the Color profile cause a problem on certain Commercial Highlight color laser printer. Thanks for this very promize great program!
  14. Is there a way to import Illustrator color profiles into Affinity Designer? Like many others, I'm migrating from Illustrator and I have color profiles from my printer that I need to import.
  15. Is there a suggested color profile and export method for web graphics? I've been testing how to get my exported graphics to look the same in the browser as they do in Affinity programs. I found that the "Wide Gamut RGB" profile looks good and then exporting that profile with the image produces pretty similar results. Is this the optimal method? Thanks.
  16. The printing company I want to use says they use Euroscale as a color profile for CMYK documents. I can see that export profile is available in Affinity Photo but it is not in the dropdown for Affinity Designer (both were version 1.5 when I bought them a couple of weeks back for my Windows 10 desktop). I have upgraded to 1.6 for each but the problem persists. Both programmes have an icc folder under resources but I cannot find Euroscale under either (I was hoping to maybe copy it from Photo to Designer). I wonder if it has been replaced by another profile with a different name. If so what is it. As a side issue is there a place on the website with version release notes as that would be a great place to look.
  17. Well, I need a clou here if I‘m just overlooking something or it is just currently not possible :) I made two different documents in Designer on my iMac: 1) CMYK with the Generic CMYK profile 2) CMYK und the ISO Coated v2 300% (ECI) Now, for example, if I create a red object with 100M 100Y in the Generic document and it looks like it should. If I copy it and paste it into the ISO Coated document it converts the color appropriate to the other profile: for now 2C 95M 83Y 6K and looks surely different. In other programms like Illustrator, ... I have the option to paste with converting into the profile or use the color values – and that is what I am missing. It just converts every time to the profile instead to use the correct values or even giving me the choice. If I place the Generic document (with the place command) into the ISO Coated document and double click the now embedded object, it opens and show me correct the 100M 100Y values inside the ISO Coated document. It correctly converts only if I export it to PDF with the document profile. I can switch the profile in the document prefs and select asign or convert, but all things pasted via the clipboard get always converted. Ist there an option the preserve the values? Thanks for any help in advance. :-)
  18. Hello! I just made a business card to be printed by a local printing company with a online shop. On their website they recommend to use a bleed of 3mm and a specific color profile for cmyk (iso coated 300%). Installing the profile and setting the document to those settings are easy in designer! But at exporting I got some issues I do not understand completely, thats why I ask here: - In my document I have two artboards, one for front and one for back - I assume that the document settings are valid for all artboards in a document!? (color profile and bleed) - I exported my document as one PDF-file (with two sites in it, one for front and on for back). I exported as PDF x4, including bleed and crop marks, using the document color profile. - When I open the exported pdf (I work on a iMac), the pdf is of course bigger then the business card, because I added bleed and crop marcs, but the document is more then the 3mm bigger? why? The business card artboard is set to 85mm x 48mm and bleed is set to 3mm on each side...shouldn't be the exported PDF then 85+6mm x 54+6mm? When I set the view of the exported PDF to 100% the distance between the crop marks was correct, but the whole document was about 10mm bigger all around...no big issue, and maybe thats just a PDF-display thing, but I wanted to ask to understand whats going on here... - If i set a bleed, i cannot find a option to display the bleed around each artboard, maybe that would make things easier? - The second issue was, that the printing company told me that one of the two sides (remember, I exported one PDF out of one document) where in RGB...how can this be?? The only reason I can immagine are the inserted pics I used (made in affinity photo and exported as PNG in ROMM)...aren´t they converted to the document profile when placed in designer?? The file i added is the one I sent to my printing company... Thanks for some light into my darkness! Andreas VC - Anna - Endversion - soBestellt.pdf
  19. Hello all, I've only seen an old thread about this with no clear fix so I've decided to start a new one. As you can see in the attached image, my "white" in Affinity definitely is not "white" as in the rest of aplications in my computer (the Notepad there provides an example). I'm working on a second screen display, an AOC e2351Fh monitor, (although the issue persists even if I set windows to project only on the notebook screen, not sure if this really matters), my graphic card is a GeForce GTM870m, and my NVIDIA Control Panel settings seems to be correct (designer.exe is set to high performance NVIDIA processor). I could provide you with some screenshots of my monitor color profile but then you would have to tell me exactly what you want me to screenshot. Oh, and this is on Windows 10. That said, what should I do about this? Any tips? Thanks!
  20. Affinity Designer & Photo both crash on startup on Windows 10 when trying to open any .EPS CMYK image. 21. Hello first let me congratulate you for the amazing ipad app, just loving it...fantastic work...I am running the Beta I am running into an issue though with exporting my tiff files for printing. I export them as 16 bit tiffs in the adobe RGB space because there is no Prophoto option ( where is it?) and adobe RGB seems to be the next best choice ... correct? the export files opens perfect in AP desktop but wether I try to print the file from the IPAD or export in Prophoto from AP desktop they do not print properly but look like closups of very heavy noise artifacts.... I am printing from COLORBURST OVERDRIVE that reads the file and shows a normal preview. Never had a problem with COLORBURST and AP desktop files What do you reckon and suggest??. I think it could be interesting to put together a tutorial about preferences both for AP desktop and AP Ipad
  22. I'm having an issue when exporting .png assets from Affinity Designer for use in a website. When Chrome (on Windows) displays the .png image, the color does not match the HEX value I've assigned in Affinity designer. Here's a quick example of a square that I made both in Affinity Designer and in Photoshop. Both have a hex value of #252E42. I embedded them both next to each other on a HTML page that also has a background-color of #252E42. I've attached the result. As you can see the rectangle exported from Photoshop is completely invisible, which is exactly what I expect. But the rectangle from Designer is clearly visible. What is going on here? Do I have to change some color profile settings in order to make this work?
  23. Hey everyone, I'm new here, but I've had Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer for a while now. I didn't notice this bug until I got a new 144hz gaming monitor: the AOC G2460. I'm also not an expert in color profiles, so please forgive me if I get some terms wrong. The problem is this: when I opened up a new document in either Affinity Photo or Affinity Designer, the color white would look like light yellow. In fact, all graphics displayed ended up with a yellow tint. So I changed the ICC to the right one for my monitor (which is also being used for the monitor in my Windows settings). That solves one problem: my documents look just fine. White looks white. The user interface, however, doesn't seem to get the memo about the ICC change. White in the color picker still looks light yellow. The rest of the interface seems to have the same issue. It's not a total deal breaker, but it is annoying. As this only affects my new monitor, I can't exactly screenshot the issue for you. On any other monitor, all looks as it should, more or less. But as my secondary monitor is older and seems to be a bit less bright overall, I'd like to use the new one. I did test this with other software. Once I selected the right color profile, the GIMP seemed to handle everything just fine. So yeah, how do I get the color picker to use the same color profile as my document? And yes, I have gone to the app settings to select the right profile there. No change.
  24. I don't know much about color formats and color profiles, so I could use some help. I have a project that I plan to get professionally printed. However, I tried printing on my home printer as well as FedEx Office and the colors are drastically different from my monitor (Dell UltraSharp U3415W PXF9 34" Curved LED-Lit Monitor). When printed, my purple looks like blue, and my light gray looks dark, etc. I have my document setup as Print-ready with CMYK/8 and all my colors have been created using the CMYK slider. This has been the case since I first started this document. So, I have a couple questions: 1. Am I doing something wrong? 2. What is a color profile? 3. How do I prevent this from happening when I get it professionally printed? (I think they want PDF, but may accept other formats) Thank you in advance! I attached a couple images of my Document Setup and CMYK Slider.
  25. Dear everybody, I'm not quite new to Affinity and I'm quite good at googling problems and solving them myself, but Ive come now across a problem I can't find anywhere: once I save print project, I cannot see layers in viewer. However, I can see preview in layers panel. You may see this on screenshot attached. Here's unsaved project: as soon as I save it, here's how it looks: I think there's something wrong with color profiles, but can't find any solution. Is there someone who came across with this? Thanks!
