  1. Hi! I am very new to Affinity. I have searched in the forum but didn't find anything similar, so I don't know... maybe it is only happening to me. I created a new file of 127px width, 180 px height, with 72 dpi. My test is small because I found the problem with that one, but it happens with other sizes. Drag the woman image so it is a new layer (linked). I then resize that layer (the layer, not the document) to a 10% width with Transform panel. You can see how the image gets pixelated, or some would say blurry (depending on the zoom level!). This is not happening in Photoshop, which looks fine. This problem is NOT happening in Affinity Designer, nor Publisher. This is a problem, cause you can not work in a blurry-pixelated image in "photo persona". I don't know if there are other options to preview images (in Preferences>Performance>View Quality I have "bilinear (best quality)", as with "Nearest Neighbour" is much worse). Exporting as JPG through "File>Export" Resample: Bicubic Quality 100% gets same blurrines-pixelation. Resample: Lanczos 3 Non-separable, which seems the best Quality 100% gets better. I think is even better than photoshop, at least with this small export size. Ok, then I change to "export persona" and the image in the monitor looks as expected! But exporting it gets same results as before. You can check and try with the attached elements (woman photo is free, on Pixabay: https://pixabay.com/photos/woman-portrait-face-skin-make-up-3096664/ I downloaded the 1920px option). Thank you! Edit: I have uploaded a new image: a screen capture of Affinity Photo vs Photoshop. woman.psd woman.afphoto
  2. I have been trying to convert this PDF to a PNG or JPEG to include in a Wordpress blog post and it keeps looking blurry upon upload. You can see that when I download these, they look normal, but as soon as I put it on a Wordpress post, it gets all blurry, like this: My plan was to put a shadow behind the JPEG or PNG to make it look like a digital download product but I can't get it to look right on a Wordpress post even without a shadow?? I don't know what to do anymore Any help here would be amazing. Random List - PDF Flattened.pdf Random List - PDF High Quality.pdf
  3. I've noticed that any image I save as a native AFPHOTO file will render blurry when read back in. EDIT: More info on the steps to reproduce Steps to reproduce: Open an image in Photo, any raster image (png, jpeg) seems to work, but images with sharp lines are easier to notice Save as AFPHOTO as you normally would Close the file, reopen it again Notice the image is blurry when compared to the original, and then close the file Use File -> New to create a new image file, any image file seems to work, but let's go with Web -> QFHD resolution Drag the same file from step 1 into the document, rasterize the layer so it's a 1 on 1 comparison with above, so there's no doubts Save the file as AFPHOTO and close it Reopen the file just created, notice the image is sharp and working as expected Seems like Photo is storing something, like the DPI scale, incorrectly when saving a raster image into APHOTO files? Stranger still, I don't think the files are damaged at all. If you open the AFPHOTO file in Affinity Designer or Publisher, it looks normal and sharp. So this is something limited to Affinity Photo's render. Changing the Renderer to WARP or disabling OpenCL does not solve the issue. I did notice something odd though. If you change the View Quality to Nearest Neighbour the AFPHOTO file will look pixelated, this shouldn't be happening. Indeed if I swap back to the PNG version of the image, even with Nearest Neighbour the image looks sharp, as it should. Feels like there's some sort of internal error on the app itself, as if it's rendering the file internally at... half the resolution I'd guess? Let me know if you need further information. Thanks! Recently when I moved into more pixel transforming/merging workflow thanks to my job I'm constantly annoyed by this. Well known bug/unnatural design that people we're reporting for YEARS now still not fixed. When you merge 2 images by Layers/Merge Selected, both images get blurry and unusuable. It is really that hard to make it actually just MERGE without making both merged images look DIFFERENT than before merging? Why overcomplicate things when you can surely implement some automatization that make this basic feature function without working with transform panel all the time? mergeexample.afphoto
  5. Hello, I'd like to report a bug that occurs when importing a picture into Affinity Photo : the imported picture (creating a new layer) looks blurry. This happens because it surely is in subpixel coordinates. To fix this though, I have to align the layer to any horizontal and vertical sides, then I can finally move it freely - it'll remain aligned with the canvas pixels. However the best would be to avoid subpixel alignment, or to have an option for disabling it. Thank you in advance for your help !
  6. Hi, I'm designer and I have some problems with Affinity Photo. When a I export my files, the quality is amazing. But, when I upload it to Instagram, the image looks blurry and ugly. I'll post a link here to show how it looks on instagram. Link: https://www.instagram.com/p/CSKrQzFq6SD/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link (P.s: I've already increased the resolution to 2160x2160 and it stills not good ;-;)
  7. Hello! I'm trying to make an isometric tileset to be used with Tiled (a map editor). Problem is, when I export to png, the edges of ALL the shapes get transparent and blurred: This causes: Each tile edge to have a grey outline when used Background colors to bleed through shapes (notice the green pixels around the water and in the cracks of walls) Any tips on how to alleviate these problems would be appreciated! Attached is the affinity file Thanks, Evelyn Fountain.afdesign
  8. Hi, I downloaded the AD form the Mac App Store yesterday and started working. Everything I export is coming out blurry. I have the document setup at 300dpi and when I export it, it just comes out pixelated. Even just text that looks perfect in AD is pixelated at the edges when I export. I am exporting as png or jpg for web. I have done it just as an export as well as a slice and nothing is coming out clear. Pretty frustrating. Is there something that I am doing wrong or is this just a glitch? Any help would be appreciated. I have attached a screen shot of the text in AD and then the exported PNG so you can see what I am talking about. Thanks Brody
  9. Unsharp Mask filter is needed since resized image on Affinity is not crisp though Photo has Unsharp Mask to fix it. Unsharp Mask filter option on resize/export would be nice also.
  10. Vector art & text look so crisp on my ipad screen. But when I print them they look low DPI and have jagged edges. Non Affinity Designer docs print fine, so it’s not the printer. I’m not printing directly from the app, or from my iPad, because AirPrint is totally (insert bad word here). I have already tried: Increasing resolution of documents to 300dpi, 600dpi, & 1200dpi. Exporting documents as PDF for print. Setting dpi in export settings to 300dpi & 600dpi. Setting Rasterizing in export settings to unsupported properties, nothing, and everything. Making sure layer opacity set to Normal in all layers. I’m using a USB laser printer. This is my first post. Any help appreciated.
  11. Hello, I just download the free trial for Affinity Designer. I work with a lot of stock artwork, and most of the files are EPS. When I open any EPS in AD, the images are horribly pixelated. Is there a work-around? I'm so tired of Creative Cloud and the total inability to get tech support. Really hoping I can find an alternative! Cheri :D
  12. The Designer art board is set to 300, I have tried 72 and it makes no difference. It is randomly blurry no matter what. The original image is 3264 × 2448
  13. There is a long and old thread on this topic already, but I'm not convinced its been getting any attention, so I'm starting a new topic because this problem is infuriating. 2020, and still having the same blurry images problem. There is something weird about the way Affinity is handling pixels. I don't know how to explain this, but when you use different resolutions in photoshop the zoom ratios when working with the image are different-100% at 300 dpi is way bigger than 100% at 72 dpi. When you do it in Affinity they are all the same across the board. 300 dpi looks the same as 72 dpi. Its infuriating. I'm trying to make web graphics and no matter what resolution I create them at they come out looking blurry AF at small pixel sizes. For example, I'm trying to upload a logo at 150 px by 150 px. 300 dpi looks exactly the same as 72 dpi. Like, really blurry. Like someone who has never touched graphics software before in their life created them. I've been doing this for almost 20 years now. Usually, in Photoshop if you create your file at the size you need for application it comes out clear, that doesn't seem to happen in Affinity. I can't afford Photoshop, but these results are completely unprofessional. I've even tried going back to my designer files and scaling them down, wondering if anti-aliasing in AffinityPhoto was a factor, but it makes no difference. Is Affinty EVER going to address this? HOW do you make crisp web image files with Affinity???
  14. Hello, I just purchased Affinity Photo for iPad Pro. I have planned to use it for the digital painting... However I run into the issue. When using the brush...line is blurry while I paint. (With any type of brush). When I stop it takes about 2 seconds for them to sharpen. So while I am painting I am constantly looking on blurred lines. This delay irritates my eyes. I can try to describe in other words: line look very pixelated while I am drawing but shortly after I stop it gets smoother. I was hoping to see if it’s some kind of settings that I have to change. Otherwise I have to return the purchase as it’s not usable for me. P.S. Interesting observation that Affinity Designer in the Pixel persona has no delay in the line sharpening. It’s same while I am drawing the line and after it. Thank you
  15. When I export from Affinity Photo, the export gets blurred. Please see attached export vs. a simple screen shot of how it looks in Affinity Photo. Thanks.
  16. Hi, I'm having a problems with live filter perspective. After I made few live filters perspective there is a quality problem while I zoom/export/move etc. Even the same files are different in export. So it is not a problem of linked (placed) file. I hope you can see this video and it is helpful: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1AJB719uyg9oW_iKr2D9oPxRvHijTW9sg
  17. Hey guys, I wanted to create a panorama with affinity because my raw converter (on1) lacks in terms of performance for big panoramas. Overall affinity does a really great and quickly job, but the panorama seems to be very unsharp against my version from on1. So I thought that in on1 maybe some automatic sharpening has happen before I even touch the raw. So I opened just one raw (out of the eight from the panorama) in affinity and I opened the same in the default preview app from MacOS. Again, Affinity is not as sharp as the unedited preview app. But this particular image detail was still clearly sharper in a single photo than in the rendered panorama. I know that I have several options for sharpening in Affinity, but how is it possible, that the raw file is so blurry? Do you think the default preview app in MacOS do also a automatic sharpening (and maybe other stuff) when I open a raw file? Enclosed I attach a screenshot from the single raw. On the left you can see the preview of MacOS and on the right the photo in Affinity. Since the sky on the left side is grainy, OSX actually seems to sharpen the preview of the raw file automatically, right? Thank you in advance. Greetings
  18. Hi guys, Could you please help? Look every time I design something in Affinity after I export it, it is blurry. Do you please know why it came out blurry? For example I design a pattern and I export it as PNG, JPEG, it came out very blurry. Is this normal? or how can I keep the vector quality not blurry? Is there a way to fix that please because when see vector design, they are very clean and not blurry. Is this cause of the sizes? The document is 8 x 8 inches?
  19. So I've started creating some pixel art with Affinity Designer for the Ipad. On screen it looks very clear but when i export it as PNG it comes out blurry. Is there any way around it?
  20. Hi! I've got some issue with Patch Tool. When I'm using it, my photo in the place I choose to replace, becomes blurry. It looks so if I was changing the transparent settings to low, but that's not true. I have no idea what I could do with this problem. Have any one of you got issue like this one?
  21. If I clone stuff with "Force pixel alignment" turned off I get very blurry results. Is this normal? I Just want to know if there's something wrong on my side or if it's supposed to work like that. Thanks in advance!
  22. Maybe I am not understanding something, but one thing that is driving me nuts, is, that I seem to be unable to export smaller images (lets say for web and with a size around 200 or 300 px) in a crisp way when text is included. My results are terrible. I get that you can't fill a pixel with two colors but i can't shake off the feeling, that there is something very tricky going on with the rendering machine/ anti-aliasing setting of Affinity when it comes to exporting text and I just wish that it would do a better job there (sorry, I otherwise really love the apps). Anyway to temper with the anti-aliasing? I have Questions like why is a screenshot of 400px picture viewed in half the size (50%) crisper that a 200 px export (no resizing and lanczos3 setting)? Why can a browser show small fonts crisp and why can i not even come close to that when exporting? Latest example: 236x236px web-image, viewed in 100% in AfP looks ok I guess, too small to tell, hahah (due to my screen-resolution?). Now i see the same picture in 100% in the browser and it appears double the size and extremely blurry. Wtf am I missing? To the good people out there : Has anyone of you a best-practice for me, when creating/exporting smaller stuff for web? Can someone help with advice? Thank you very much, Hannah
  23. Hi all, I'm testing this program and looks great. But i find one (big) problem. I work with .cr2 raw files. When i go to RAW Develop everything goes fine. But when i go to Lens and Transform and put one of the slider even 1 point to the right or left the whole picture gets blurry. i have it with all the sliders in this 2 tabs. When i reset the slider back to 0 everything is fine. So it's impossible to use: Chromatic abberation fix, Devignette and all of the Transform sliders. On the image it says image processing and then it's blurry. Image 4714 is ok, image 4714B is with Chromatic abberation Fix Red/Cyan -2. It's just to show an example. I have it both on the Canon EOS 550D and a 700D. Pc is running Windows 10 with I7. For the moment all the rest works fine and fast. I would use this program in the place for Lightroom.
  24. Hi, I'm fairly new to using Affinity Designer after switching over from Adobe Illustrator. I am basically working on a document which has vector/JPEG objects inserted. It is intended for print, but I would also require a digital version for web purposes. When I export the document as a PDF for print at 300dpi, it seems fine; the JPEG images look sharp as well as the vectors (just as everything looks when working on the document at 100% scale). But when I export the same document as a PDF for web at 72dpi, all of my vectors are nice and sharp, the document is the right size, but my JPEG images become extremely pixelated. I've attached a snippet from an exported web PDF. Document information: Type: Print Page Preset: A3 300DPI Any ideas as to why this might be happening?
