  1. Hi, I do a lot of photo editing in Affinity Photo and Capture One. I also do a lot of vector editing in Affinity Designer. Last year, to speed up workflow, I bought a new Apple iMac Pro 3 GHz 10-Core Intel Xeon W, 64GB memory, Radeon Pro Vega 64X 16 GB graphics card and 2 TB SSD. This machine did cost me 8500€! This is very very expensive for me, but previously I had a MacBook Pro (2016) that was too slow for my graphics editing. So I thought to me let's spend a little more money to get a really powerful and fast machine, so my graphics editing will be in realtime without waiting time at all. At least that was what I wished and thought. But I have to say that neither Affinity Photo nor Affinity Designer have become much faster with the new computer. Both programs often have very long waiting times when working. I always watch the CPU usage and see that no core is ever used to its maximum. Let alone that all cores are used. It is absolutely incomprehensible to me that I have waiting times in the programs if there are enough performance resources available but they are not being used. For example, I like to work with the Inpainting Brush in Affinity Photo. Sometimes I really have to wait about a minute for it to finish calculating. It is very annoying. During this time, my computer has enough resources that Affinity does not use to calculate it faster. It may take advantage of 2-3 cores in half and the GPU by a quarter. But the rest of the cores do almost nothing. And we're not talking about huge photos here. I recently edited a 12MP iPhone photo. Or I work in Affinity Designer with graphics that consist of approx. 2000 elements. It is almost impossible to select all of these elements and move them around. It is so jerky that the graphics are rendered here and there and lag behind. It is impossible to work with. Here too it can be observed that perhaps two of the CPU cores do something, but are also underutilized. The rest does nothing. The GPU doesn't do anything either. Believe me, I've tried every combination of performance settings in Affinity Photo and Designer. Because it really annoys me that everything is so slow! But it only got slower than faster. I would understand that there is a waiting period if all resources are used to the maximum and there are no resources left. But because the CPU and GPU of my machine are mostly idle while I see slow process bars and long waiting and reaction times, I wonder if something is wrong? My question is, can I do something about it e.g. use certain special settings or is Affinity Photo and Designer not developed for using the performance of my machine? I've already spoken to Apple Support who checked my machine. But everything is normal and fine. I have reinstalled macOS and every app. But it hasn't changed. I mean a year ago this machine was advertised as "Power for Pros" or as "the fastest Mac every build". It would only have been faster with the 18 cores version with 256GB memory. So I ask myself, what machine do I need to buy from Apple to have a noticeable speed advantage? Best regards, Christoph
  2. I wonder if anyone here already tried to use Affinity Designer on iPadOS 14? Are there any issues occured?
  3. If you're designing an iOS app icon, you can use this template to export the 18 different icon sizes required by Apple named according to Apple’s guidelines. To get started, edit the Icon symbol on the App Icon layer. When you are ready to export, switch to the Export Persona and click the Export Slices button. Make sure to disable the mask layers before you export – icons should be exported as square images. You can download the latest version on my website. Thanks for looking!
  4. Hi, The gradient tool creates a black outline on shapes that are placed over a shape that has a gradient. See picture attached. The orange circle under the emoji has a gradient. A black outline appears under the red heart eyes. When I move the gradient, I can see the black outline moving around. The black outlines created by the bug are circled in green in picture 1. The outline disappeared in picture 2 when I lowered the gradient. Please note that the glitch only seems to affect shapes that have a shadow under them (hearts and pink patches) but not the white star and the mouth. This is the latest version of affinity designer and I work on a macbook pro (catalina). Thank you for your help, Lauriane
  5. I bought Affinity Designer and Photo through the Mac App Store but I bought Publisher directly from Affinity (yes I know – what a dumb thing to do). I don't intentionally do this, I simply followed the links I found and bingo here I am with three products by the same company but they're differently licensed. I sometimes find the Designer and Photo personas don't work from Publisher, It doesn't happen often, usually just before I update to newer versions when they become available but I can't reproduce the problem consistently. I suspect it's because the MAS version's don't want to play with the directly bought ones, but I'm no software developer. I'd like to licence the three the same way if possible. If it's through the MAS or directly through Affinity that's alright (I'd be happy with the latter so nobody gets a cut) but I'd just like some continuity: There must be a way to transfer a licence from MAS to run a direct bought version? I've done it with other products that I've bought through the App Store and I'd be very happy to hear if there's a way Affinity could do the same. What do you think Affinity, Is there a path to transfer licences or can you make one like other software? Thanks in advance. Emyr
  6. Hi team. I hope you guys are safe and well during all of this COVID-19 chaos! I have a quick question regarding Affinity Photo for iPad. When I draw, the screen seems to blur or lower in resolution as soon as my Apple Pencil touches the screen, and then it smooths out again when I lift it. I did a screen recording to show what I mean, here's the link (be sure to watch in HD): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSQTuxV0E34 Why does this happen? It's subtle, but it can be a bit disruptive when doing finer detailed line-art, as I can't always see the smaller areas in as much detail while drawing. An example is the finer hatched lines in the video, which become quite unclear as soon as I put the Apple Pencil down. I seems to happen less when I'm quite zoomed in, but I tend to prefer working a bit more zoomed out so that I can see more of the content I'm drawing while I'm drawing, and not get lost in the details. Thanks in advance!
  7. I was move a file out of a project folder on my iPad Pro, then suddenly Affinity Designer crashed. When I opened Affinity again, my entire folder with several vector images was gone. Completely deleted. No folder, no files. Which seems completely impossible since Designer for the iPad only allows for deleting files one at a time. Unfortunately, all of the vector images I lost were saved not up-to-date, so those files are completely gone now...
  8. Hi there, I bought Affinity on the app sore on my mac and have recently got a new desk top windows PC. I was looking to get affinity on this machine too as i know you can have it on a number of machines if its just you using it. When i go to sign into my account, it dose not recognise the email address that is associated with my apple ID. Is there a way for me to get this on both PC and Mac without having to purchase two licences Thanks!
  9. I just purchased the 7th generation ipad 10.2. capacity of 128GB. I plan to purchase affinity photo and designer for this tablet, but will this tablet be enough to run the progams?
  10. I am attempt to figure out how to "edit" a photo from Apple Photos with Affinity Photo and then send it back to Photos. All the tutorials seem to have old version of Photos with "extentions" button, which is no longer on my version of Photos. - Very strange and upsetting. I can edit the image - now i want send it back!!! Please advise!
  11. Hi - I'm in the process of switching from Windows to Mac and shoot on an EOS R, which I don't think is yet supported in the stable release. Mac's have raw conversion built in, and I know Affinity can use that feature. How is the conversion with the OS converters compared to the ones that are released with Affinity? Thanks!
  12. This may very well be related to a recent system update so apologies if this is nothing to do with Affinity but hoping that someone might have an answer regardless. I updated my Mid 2010 Mac Pro to the latest system it can handle 10.13.6 and I've just noticed that when I go to open a file, if I have the dialogue box set to list view then I no longer get the preview of the file showing at the bottom of the dialogue. Now there is just a thin strip of grey. The only way I can see the files is by going into columnar view (which I don't like using) or by pressing the space bar to preview the images. Problem with that is that the images load very large and so take a lot longer to go through. Was wondering if anyone knows of a way to get that functionality back? If it is Apple that have taken this out then seriously have no idea why as it was really really handy having the image preview at the bottom of the window in list view. Thanks for any help with this. Best wishes, Mark
  13. As a new, and very happy, convert to Affinity from the Creative Cloud I have a question!! Leaving Lightroom CC I have now lost a viewer for all my photos from whatever source. In Lr these are hosted in the Cloud and easily viewed and shared without having to have an enormous hard-drive! Having moved to Affinity I needed somewhere to 'hold' the photos from where they could be viewed and shared. I chose Apple Photos and all is fine; all photos from my phone go there automatically and I can import RAW files directly form my camera. Photos also holds the originals in the Cloud when space is at a premium. If I right click on one of these RAW files in Photos, and select Edit in Affinity, the photo opens in the Photos Persona and not in the Develop Persona. I have to then click on Develop Persona to edit the RAW file. Is this an expected behaviour when using Photos and do I lose anything in the image editing by having to select the Develop Persona? As an aside, has anyone got a suggestion for storage other than Photos? Peter H
  14. Hello Serif Staff, I am currently looking into purchasing a new desktop computer, more specifically an iMac 21.5 inch With Retina 4k Display. My question goes as follows before I make a purchase: What iOS version does the Affinity suite (Photo, Designer and Publisher) require to run on an Apple machine? Is the Affinity suite compatible with Mac Pro "Six Core" 3.5 (Late 2013)3.5 GHz 6 Core Xeon E5-1650v2? Will the Affinity suite upgrades be compatible with a Mac Pro "Six Core" 3.5 (Late 2013)3.5 GHz 6 Core Xeon E5-1650v2? What specifications do I need to know before I settle on a permanent purchase? I have ruled any Windows software out of the equation for my investment, and as soon as I have an answer, I plan on purchasing all three desktop in one go. I currently run the mobile app on an iPad (6th Gen). Thank you for your responses.
  15. Hi! Does it make sense to wait for the light version for the iPhone in the near future? I really miss the pocket vector editor for accurate sketches ... with symmetry and sticking on the grid Or can you recommend an application from another manufacturer?
  16. I am considering upgrading my old iPad Air 2 to an iPad pro 12.9, and possibly a getting a second generation Apple pencil. What is the experience of the community in using the Apple pencil (2) for Affinity Photo? Does it integrate well with the app, what do you use it for, and what tips could you give a newbie? I have looked through help and the tutorials, which gives me some idea, but I suspect there is much more that would help a new user get the best out of this hardware - software combination. And a Nikon 810.
  17. Hi, I purchased AffinityPhoto via Appstore. So I don't have a product-key to update or re-install my product. I am going trough the procedure with Apple for the second time now and I will document it here. Hopefully it will safe other peoples time! More to come when the process & documentation is finished.....
  18. I'm having an issue with metadata being retained from an original background image layer in Affinity documents. New jpgs do not update to the current date. 1. Export an image from Apple Photos app and open it in Affinity Photo, thus creating a new Affinity ".afphoto" document with multiple layers. 2. Export a jpg from Affinity document to my desktop. 3. Import new jpg to Apple Photos app. New image returns to original creation date in Apple Photos.
  19. Good day all, I just downloaded Affinity Photo for Mac OS. All the extensions are available and work in the drop down within Photos app EXCEPT the option to open in the Affinity Photo main App (not extension). I get dialog that says 'Affinity photo cannot be launched, please press cancel' Anyone else experience this and have a fix? Thank you. Mugs
  20. Hi, everybody, first, I want to thank everybody at Affinity for their awesome work. I’m loving my Affinity Photo for iPad, especially when I’m on the go. The biggest thing I’m missing, however, are keyboard shortcuts. Especially these: Cmd, Shift, Alt and Ctrl for manipulating with objects. For example, really often I want to resize object from center holding Cmd key and I’m not able to do that. 10x faster move with Shift+Arrows Shortcuts for (Un)Grouping and other basic stuff Shortcuts to show/hide guides and grid Since many people use their iPad Pros with Smart Keyboard, it would be really nice to have this option. Are there any plans to implement shortcuts in future releases? Thank you.
  21. I’ve brought this up before (but can’t find it anymore) and it has been kind of waved aside by staff but new observations have me bring this up again: I’m used to hit Cmd-D when the modal dialog comes up to dismiss unsaved work. This works with every program except Affinity Designer (and LibreOffice but that’s a different subject). I have to add that my OS language/locale is set to German but still, the shortcut is universal and works in every program I can think of right now except this one. Now, I don’t remember what Serif staff told me would be the reason for that but interestingly I can use the keyboard shortcut Cmd-R for “Replace file” in the respective dialog box when saving a file with the same name as an already existing one. So, why is that? I find it a major inconvenience that I can’t dismiss unsaved work with a keyboard shortcut.
  22. I noticed today when trying to download and save a photo that I had an option of HEIF format - which may be going to become a new "standard". Out of curiosity I created one, and then tried to open it with Affinity Photo. It seems that AP doesn't handle this format - yet. This may become more important in the future.
  23. So I have both Affinity Photo & Designer. I first bought Designer and used it for a couple days and then went onto buying Photo. When I was saving a picture to iCloud that I was woking on, I noticed that there wasn't a Affinity Photo folder, and only a Affinity Designer folder. Does anyone else have this issue?
  24. After much consideration I've decided to invest in a portable tablet so that I'm no longer tethered to my Workstation at home and can double my output of designs by working on the go. I currently use an Artisul D13 tablet and it's been good to me, but I've recently tried my friends iPad Pro with the Apple Pencil and it completely blows mine out of the water. It's highly responsive with no lag, pressure sensitivity was off the charts, and there was no parallax which completely blew my mind! I went to Best Buy to purchase one and stumbled upon the MS Surface Book 2 on display so I checked it out. Now I'm conflicted because the Surface Pen is just as impressive as the Apple Pencil! The fact that the Surface Book 2 also doubles as a laptop and runs Windows 10 is a huge plus, but I need to inquire about a few things before I make such an investment. 1) Designer is the main app I use for my illustrations so I was wondering when it's coming to the iPad Pro or if there's some type of beta I can use until the full release. 2) If I get the Surface Book 2 am I allowed to install the same Designer & Photo I have on my PC or do I need a different License? 3) I know Photo is optimized very well on the iPad Pro so is it safe to assume that the same could be said for all versions of the Surface Book 2? 4) Let's say I get the Surface Book 2 with the i7 CPU, GTX 1060 GPU, and 16gb of Ram; Are there any type of performance benefits to having all the extra memory and computing power? If so what are they? Sorry for the long post and please feel free to comment. All opinions are welcome specially if you have an iPad Pro or the Surface Book 2.
  25. Hi Is is possible to see the contents of Apple Photos, i.e. the photos that sync from all my apple devices in Affinity / File / Open or elsewhere? If not is there a work around? Thank you in advance Al
