Even with rather moderate image sizes, whenever there is an active pixel selection (tested in marching ants mode), the software becomes extremely slow and beachbally, and the entire OS becomes unresponsive. This was not the case pre-1.5. If it is possible to deselect despite the slowdowns and erratic UI, the performance seems to go back to normal. This is using the 1.5.1 AppStore build of Photo on OS X 10.9.5 with the latest system updates, late 2008 silver model MacBook, with 8GB RAM installed after the fact and hard drive replaced with SSD, graphics chipset is the standard NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB. Main screen is an external Eizo CG series graphics monitor connected via Display Port, on which Affinity Photo is running. OS is German locale, with Affinity Photo running in English. Activated IME keyboards are German, US English, and the three Japanese ones.

I am digging deeper into the Pen and Shape tools in Designer 1.5 on macOS 10.13, and really loving them both. I am exploring and practicing as many of the different options as possible, using them over and over again in the hope of mastering them. However, there is one operation that I cannot seem to master, no matter how many times I try. While in the Node tool, and one or more blue handles are active and visible, I will try to delete a specific handle using the cusp mode alt/option-click. I always hover first over the handle until the arrow turns black, and then holding down alt/option key left-clicking on the handle. The context help on the bottom clearly shows it is in cusp mode, and the arrow is black, but way more often than not, the handle does not delete. Very rarely does the delete occur on the first option-click, and usually it takes multiple attempts before I can get the delete to work. I have tried all different sorts of sequences, such as single-click, wait one second without moving the pointer, then option-click, and nothing gives me predicable, reproducible results. It seems almost random, and I do not notice any pattern in what actions the successful deletion operations. I even went into the mouse settings to slow the pointer speed way down, and that didn't help at all. Are there any undocumented "tricks" that produce better, more consistent results when deleting node control handles in the Node tool? I have a personal goal of gaining complete mastery over this simple operation, to the point of being able to delete a node on the first click, every time; I do hope someone can help. As a side note, I have used the pen tool in many different applications, and the one in Affinity Designer/Photo is the only one that I actually enjoy using. Every aspect of the use and response of this tool feels so natural and intuitive; I have no idea how they did it, but the devs really nailed it with their implementation. It just feels right!

Hi, I was looking at the "Affinity designer 1.5 overview" on Vimeo a minute ago. But there id one feature I completely don't know how to use, and I really want to know :). At 1 minute 9 seconds of the video, you can see someone drawing on a box template and it appears directly on the mockup. I would appreciate sombody explain me how to do this. Thank you in advance.

Hello fellow affinity designers, I recently noticed some performance issues with Affinity Designer. Started with 1.5 update. Runs very smoothly on my 2012 Macbook Pro (13" 1280*800, 8Gb Ram, 2.9GHz Core i7, Intel 4000 1536Mb) Runs laggy and with load times on my 2015 iMac (27" 5K retina, 32Gb Ram, 4GHz Core i7, AMD Radeon R9 4096Mb) Both computers run macOs Sierra 10.12.1 Examples about the performance issues: When I move a shape or some text around, even in an empty document, it's like if my "FPS" dropped. The elements/objets don't move smoothly anymore, they kind of jump around like if my computer was having a hard time. This also happens when I edit a gradient with the gradient tool for example Many other scenarios. To summ it up, my better computer (by far) is having a way harder time (by far) running AD 1.5. I'd really appreciate some solutions/explanations about this issue. It has a big impact on my workflow. C~

if you draw some elements, add some guides, and then create an artboard, the guides shift massively. You can reproduce in the attached afdesign file. Here's what it looks like before creating an artboard: And here's what it looks like after creating an artboard around the left, yellow square: Notice how the guides are now nowhere near where they used to be  FYI I discovered this bug as there is (annoyingly) no way to crop bitmaps, so I planned to create artboards for each of the screenshots I took. artboard-guide-bug.afdesign

I'm getting a crash relatively consistently when I attempt to rename a new subcategory in the assets panel. Here's my process: 1. Open assets panel 2. Navigate to my set of assets 3. Create a new subcategory 4. Click rename 5. Type out the new name 6. Hit enter, crashes When I restart the application, the name is updated correctly. I'm running the most recent version of Affinity (1.5) and Mac OS Sierra on a 2014(?) 8gb SSD MacBook pro if that helps. Thanks guys and keep up the good work! Version 1.5 is amazing so far.
