  1. This would be a great feature for Affinity Photo and set it apart from Photoshop in Windows... a feature where we can turn off the background in the interface, just having floating tool bars and image windows... would help to connect workspace with desktop... this was my favorite feature on Mac and would love to have it on the Windows version of Affinity Photo.
  2. I'm pretty sure there are other requests for this, but being able to save window arrangements/layouts into custom workspaces is a pretty essential feature. I use Photoshop and Illustrator, but will sometimes use Affinity Designer and Photo for fun. My Illustrator is CS6, so I'll often use Designer to at least convert my AI vector to a more modern/stable copy or just design it in Designer if I don't need to use the Illustrator features I'm use to using. Having to rearrange my windows every time or make due with the default layout everytime I switch to an Affinity program is extremely cumbersome. On the whole, I love the programs Serif Labs have put out and think they're extremely functional and promising. It's fun and exciting to see how they're progressing and I hope they continue developing like they've been doing
  3. Hey there community and Affinity devs, some time ago I asked the developers via Facebook if there's an option to keep the adjustment presets like gradient maps, imported and saved LUT files, levels, curves – pretty much everything in the "Adjustment"-palette/tab that you may have generated and saved there over time. Back then (August 2015) you would need to save them separately, because you'd loose them with the next update – at least that's what happened to me twice – after that I was more cautious about those files. Anyway, I got a pretty helpful response: I was told there's a file called adjustments.propcol in the directory /Users/<USERNAME>/Library/Containers/com.seriflabs.affinityphoto/Data/Library/Application Support/user/ and it would contain all of my adjustments – and it's true! You can save that file and put it back there after each update to preserve your custom presets. Tough I guess it's been solved since a few updated ago because I haven't done it after a couple of times. Last year I purchased the Win-version of Affinity Photo as well and just now I'm starting to wonder: How to transfer adjustment presets from one system (Mac) to another (Win) and is this possible in the first place? So if anyone knows the answer or a workaround that doesn't involve loading everything manually I'd be pretty thankful. Greetings Dennis
  4. I am new to affinity, I have lost the adjustment panel on the right hand side, cannot find how to retrieve it.
  5. Suggestion - when you add a new view, there should a feature allowing both tabs to separate into individual windows, each with their own studio and toolbar. At the moment, if I want to do that, I need to separate the windows, and when I fullscreen the original, I the rulers on the edges of are obscured by the toolbar. It would be nice for a new view to have its own toolbar/studio.
  6. I want to suggest a feature for the iPad version of Affinity Photo. I would like some options to customize the workspace to my liking and be able to save it for later use. I wish I could customize the panels by dragging into them the tools & shortcuts that I use most and removing the ones I rarely use. This would allow me to create a workspace that suits my workflow, which is very important for working quickly and having an enjoyable experience when using the program. A custom workspace can be useful to anyone and it may be different according to the type of project that someone is working on.
  7. From the first day AP was released for Windows (even the beta) I was desperately trying to make AP work for me .... I wanted AP to be the THE (first real) alternative for PS (considering I couldn't find enough swear words for Adobe and their cloud policy). I was accepting and reporting all bugs you obviously had to expect from a sw that complex. I was trying to make the product better as quick as possible by generating test cases, videos to show bugs and even offering Serif my support in development and localisation. And seeing the sw that had great features, good customer support, a big crowd of (active) fans and users - what could go wrong to make AP the new PS in a long term? As you can see I'd do everything to make this baby mine. One can hardly approach a product more positively than I did with AP ... After all that time I see myself closing PS6 tonight working on a customer project and I'm asking myself: why do I still not(!) use AP? AP actually hast most (>95%) of the functions I frequently use in my daily work as a photographer. Even the plugins work in AP. Some functions are even more powerful than in PS6. Still I don't even think of AP when it comes to productive work for customers. And it's not because I'm used to PS ... not because it's a habit - there are very real reasons for it. Some of them I often mentioned before but serif keeps ignoring them up to the stage of not even bother to make any kind of comment. So I though I'd open this topic and bring my issues (again) to the attention of serif staff and other users ... maybe I'm not the only one. To find some good examples for my problems I decided to take a current project that requires stacking (where I feel AP is a lot easier with than PS). 7 RAW pictures that require alignment and focus stacking to adapt different areas of the picture. And what I'm describing now is not an exception ... things I describe are not necessarily reproduceable ... but it does not happen with ANY OTHER PROGRAM I use on my machine (just for those who already start blaming the state of my system as a scapegoat!). And whenever I start AP known and new things like that happen. I'm using lots of memory and disk space ... a still reasonably quick graphics card and processor on Win 7! After taking some time for reading the 7 big RAW files, aligning them and doing the focus stacking I get the processed picture. As well as a source list including all of my stacked single pics and the resulting pic. I add a levels filter and a curve filter to the file. Already after adding the curve filter the histogram is not displayed any more. I know this bug. It has been reported quite a while ago by me (and maybe other people) - apparently wasn't looked after. This does not always happen ... and is not clearly reproduceable, but since levels and curve setting are pretty useless unless you can see the histogram (except for those who do not know what they are doing) it is a bit of a bummer. Certainly knowing that it can only be solved by saving the picture and restarting AP. So I skipped this step and clicked on the first single stacked picture in the displayed list. First of all not even the focus did change to the newly selected picture I clicked on. 5 Seconds later AP completely disappeared and Lightroom was the active application (first I thought AP did crash, but it did not ... it just completely lost it's focus) ... so by clicking the task list I could get it back ... the behaviour interestingly was reproduceable. Now going to the develop persona and coming back to the photo persona the "source list" was reduced to one file called "untitled". Where did all the 8 files disappear to? OK, better don't ask. Now I want to compare the newly stacked picture with another similar picture I took. So I decide to undock the current window. Really a bad idea ... the new window does not resize but moves somewhere mostly outside the current working area. (Just as ONE example: when I do this in PS the new window resize to the layer size and displays with a certain distance at the top left corner of the workspace. PS comes with ready made presets for windows alignment. PS allowns a window to adapt to the picture size all the time. With AP it takes me ages to adjust this new window to the working area I'd like to have. And believe me I really tried hard to get it working or to adapt to this ridiculous user-hostile attitude - no chance. For those who did not get it yet: There is a good reason why the PS Window Menu has more than 25 additional commands for window adjustments - it's not because they had nothing else to do!) But many other things really set me up .... it's this lack of responsiveness of the UI (sometimes) ... you sometimes can drag sliders and they will not move ... or maybe with significant delay (seconds later). Sudden changes of focussed windows for reasons I don't understand (so you have to click in the window again you want to work in). Trying to confirm an action e.g. in a Windows UI manner (pressing Enter if you want to confirm a setting) and nothing will happen. Lacking "OK" and "Cancel" buttons so dialogs will remain open unless you find this tiny cross at the top. Settings I can't save (standard values in dialogs), paths AP will not remember (saving a picture where I loaded the original from). The export persona tries successfully to hide my user setting for standardised output format (bi-cubic,sRGB, JPG) as the last(!) entry in an extensive long list of useless "Standard" setting ... and it makes me search my standard setting for EACH picture I do export ... it seems to me like Serif is challenging my stamina and endurance in so many ways. I could go on and on on theses topics... my conclusion and answer to the question "why there's still no love" would be the following: Serif build an high performance Aston Martin Sports car ... but when you want to open the door you break your finger nails, the steering wheel is covered with nettles and the safety belt will come loose while driving. The gas pump nozzle is mounted in the middle of the roof, the bonnet occasionally opens while driving and it takes 15 switches 3 hooks and an armoured metal plate to get to the opener for the boot as well as many other obstructions. In a race against the Adobe Maserati it can easily keep up, is quicker in some curves sometimes even drives offroad ... But what car do you like to drive and will you choose to drive to work? Sadly Serif does not realise, understand nor care for these essentials at all! They can't stop celebrating AP won races (now on an iPad) ... and seem to forget that there a people around need to use the car on a daily base ... I'm not waiting for Affinity Publisher ... I'm waiting for AP to get a daily working horse! Cheers, Timo All descriptions refer to the latest final Version 1.5.2.69
  8. I needed to go into separated mode today and was surprised to find that I couldn't get back to the normal view later. If I select merge under the window menu the checkmark remains on separated mode. Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug? I don't use separated mode enough to know if this behavior is unusual. Seems like it should just snap back into the view that is just windows in front of a blank background rather then seeing all my other app windows behind me.
  9. What is really missing in Affinity Photo for a Pro user is the ability to create customized workspace. Especially now that many retouchers work on the set, this is very important. We go back and forth from our normal place with our usual monitor layout to many other places with many different monitor layouts. It's very annoying to rearrange every time all the panels to have our desired workspace. So, having the ability to save and recall custom workspaces would be a great feature. Professionals love to be fast and productive in the shortest time possible, so I think this is important for all the pros. Thanks again for your attention! Alex
  10. In the View > Studio menu in Affinity Designer for Mac there is an always greyed out "Show Left Studio" item. I can't find anything in the help topics about this so I would like to know what it does, how to use it, & why it is greyed out. Thanks in advance for your help!
  11. Hi, Sometimes I'm assembling components on a page, but I'm working on a canvas that is sized towards the end result. Is there a way to keep objects dragged off-canvas visible or do I have to switch to a "canvas + artboard" model to keep track of those objects? If, for instance, I create an A4 landscape canvas and drag an object outside the canvas area it basically becomes invisible and can only retrieved by either block selecting the whole area and dragging it on the canvas again or highlighting the relevant layer and dragging it back onto the canvas. Is there a setting for the off-canvas border to remain behind objects dragged off-canvas? Attached: example circle partly vanishing when being off-canvas Cheers!
  12. Hi There is one feature that is missing in Designer: Limitless Workspace. Many of artists creates multiple samples of current design ( i.e. Logo, weblayout ) in one open file. And i takes a lot of space. Could you make a workspace similar to this in freeware InkScape, where there is a document area on workspace but whole - almost unlimited - workspace is avaliable for drawing, testing, and aside creating ?
  13. While I was cooking up some white vector drawings for a design which eventually ends up on a dark background it became clear that an ability to set the display colour of the "blocky" transparent canvas background would be very helpful. At present I use a locked dark background layer to work on, but I was wondering if I overlooked a setting somewhere that allows me to make that "blocky" transparent background a lot darker (for instance, by making the greys used in the block pattern much darker so it is still clear it is the transparent canvas). Anyone? Note to self: find a way to auto-follow topics I post, I keep forgetting to tick the "follow" box :).
  14. Hi! It would be great to be able to hide artboad labels. For instance, if you want to zoom out and look at your artboards, the labels are overlapping and don't look good at all. Plus, hiding the labels gives you a better idea of what the design looks like.
  15. Ever notice that your workspace/interface needs are quite different when you're working in 1) Portrait orientation versus 2) Landscape orientation? It's already quite constraining that computer screens are landscape-shaped – who ever told Steve Jobs and Bill Gates that computers should prioritize left-right over up-down?? Blame the fact that CRT displays evolved from Television tubes. :^( But damn them for making LCD screens even more h-o-r-i-z-o-n-t-a-l! But if you're designing a vertical layout or (lord have mercy on you!) an actual vertical portrait, you're reduced to cursing the gods of prevailing horizontality. We portraitists have to make the best of it, and get every vertical obstruction off to the side of the screen. Affinity, you can HELP! Please give us the option of switching the Toolbar into a vertical bar! (I know you'd have to figure something out for the doc tabs & parameter readouts, but you'll sort it out in your usual clever way.) A gift from heaven would be a toggle/switch command to flip from your usual interface layout, to one customized for portrait/vertical documents – with a vertical Toolbar. (I'm aware of Separated Mode and Toggle Full Screen – very helpful. But I need the toolbar and the info read-out, and don't want to be constantly Tab-Toggling interface On & Off, or Tool Bar Opt-Cmd-T.) Thanks for your serious consideration! - pbass
  16. Hi, is possible to save a different workspace for UI ? I use sometimes mouse on my screen to draw graphic, other I use my wacom cintiq with penn, and when use it, I must put all the palette and page to the screen of cintiq. Is possible to save a workspace after positioning the palette and recall when needed? thanks! Meanwhile I go to study english.. :-)
  17. Somewhere on the list can we have a GUI artboard / document sizing? Like Fireworks, photoshops crop with capacity to crop larger? (or illustrator, FH's artboard sizing tools) Am often building free form collections of elements and need to just resize the artboard in an intuitive way without thinking about units, origin points etc. But not as important as … many other things.
