  1. We are pleased to announce the first update for Affinity Designer for Windows (version 1.5.1). The update is described here and can be downloaded from here. Once downloaded, close Affinity Designer and run (double click) the downloaded EXE to install it. To install this version you will need to have the Affinity Designer for Windows already installed OR you will need to type in your email address and a valid Product key when prompted. When installing on top of an existing version you will not be prompted for the product key. If you need it you can find your product key (and a download button) in your Affinity store account, where you will also find the email address used to generate the key when you ordered the software. If you have installed any previous beta version of Affinity Designer 1.5.0 or 1.5.1, it can be safely uninstalled before or after installing this release update, they are independent installs. The beta will stop working soon anyway. Please report any problems you have installing or using this new version in the Windows forum here Patrick Connor The Affinity Team
  2. I have bought Affinity designer on my mac, but I do have another computer with windows, and sometimes I work on it exclusively, the question is, do I need to buy the windows version to use it or can I use my account to download the windows version ?? Thanks, Erick
  3. Hello, do you offer a trial version of designer software for Windows? I want to try it, but I've found just this link, and I've get just .dmg file. Thanks for reply!
  4. I am currently in the exploration phase of affinity designer for windows so sorry if this question is allready asked. I am using this on my surface 3 and pinch and zoom works great while painting, but when swiping around with one finger, the program is registering it as mouse input, is there a way to make panning the canvas with one finger possible, I checked the preferences menu and searched the forum but I haven't found a solution yet. I know it is possible with 2 fingers, but it is not always that accurate and sometimes, pinch and zoom registers a brush stroke (mouse input) as well, which is really anoying.
  5. Hi, I really want to see the RC for windows ready to buy (We want to say "shut up and take my money!", you know it... xD) Can you give us an approx date? Now seriously... Some people pay for the "rival" software per year instead doing that per month, so knowing that info will be helpful. Thanks in advance.
  6. I recently downloaded and tried the beta version of Affinity Photo for Windows. Without sorting through all the menus, I was wondering if there was a way to disable finger input so that touch was only used for navigation while all artwork was done with a stylus (I use a Surface tablet).
  7. What sort of speed should I expect from Affinity Designer? I am used to running Xara Designer Pro 9, which zips along, rarely lagging. Affinity Designer is nowhere near this smooth. See this video for a demonstration of performing similar actions in each application. Notice in AD the zoom takes 4 or 5 seconds to render, where it is instant in Xara. Also while typing the text takes a second or more to render in AD while it keeps up with the cursor in Xara. I understand that the two programs use different methods, but with AD acting this choppily it is almost unusable - even to move a few basic vectors around the screen is painful! I can't work out where the bottle neck lies. I have watched the GPU and CPU graphs both in Windows task manager and using MSI After Burner. I can't get CPU usage of more than 50% nor GPU usage grater than 45% despite the program hanging for seconds at a time as the display struggles to update. My system specs are in my signature. This is by no means a cutting edge machine, but generally handles what I throw at it quite nicely. Judging by the tutorial video I've watched this performance is not normal?! What should I try to remedy the situation?
  8. Hello I just bought Affinity Designer a month ago for Mac but accidentally my Mac is broken and forced me to get me a new laptop. So I have to buy a new one, which isn't Mac but Windows OS platform instead. So my question is that is there any chance to change Affinity Designer from Mac to Windows? I just saw Affinity has released for Windows version. Best Regards, Buck
  9. Hello, I just downloaded the free trial version. I noticed they never asked me if I wanted Windows or Mac. I am running WIndows 7, 64 bit. The file they sentme for download was a DMG extension, which apparently is a Mac file. I can't install this, I get an error "Windows can't open this file." Is there a different file for Windows? Or what do I need to do to be able to install this?
  10. Please forgive a newbie question. I have little experience with graphics programs such as this. I want to crop a photo. I load a JPG. When I click on the crop tool and try to move the 'grab handles' all that happens is that I move the photo in the window. The cursor remains looking like the crop tool during this, it does not change when I hover over the grab handles. After some experimentation I find that if I 'rasterize" my photo the grab handles work as expected, and I move the edges of the photo in to only show the section. But, I don't seem to be able to finalize my crop. I press enter expecting the part of the image that is showing to be come the entire image. But nothing seems to work. While I am no photo manipulating expert, I have cropped photos in the past with other programs and it is all very straightforward. What am I missing ? What does 'rasterize" mean ?
  11. Hello, I have an idea regarding users who have purchased an Affinity license for one platform and want to use it on an additional operating system. For example, I have both a macbook and a windows PC. I purchased Affinity Photo and Designer for my macbook, but now I'd also like to use them on my PC. I can't afford to pay another $100 for apps that I've already purchased. Plus, once Publisher comes out as well as the ipad apps, I'll be investing even more money into Affinity. Now, had I just purchased an imac instead of a PC I could have gotten these second copies of Affinity for free because with an itunes account any app you purchase can be downloaded to any device associated with that apple ID. So why should it be different cross platform? Now, I fully understand that there is a lot of software out there that isn't transferable from windows to mac, but it isn't an obsolete idea either. The entire basis of Steam (the game management service) is purchasing one license that can be downloaded to whatever OS it is available for. Plus, wouldn't offering this service add to the innovative system that Affinity is trying to create? My point is, a lot of people, myself included, won't purchase a second copy for a second operating system when I could just walk to that device and use it instead, or get a free screen-mirroring service. So for the sake of the consumers convenience, I think that you should consider making this a possibility. But what about people giving away their "free" copy of affinity for the operating system they don't have? Well to work around that Affinity could offer their purchases/licenses right through their website (rather than using the app store) and you could log into the app with your affinity account to use them. It could be limited to one log in per account at a time. Or possibly a verification of your apple ID, and the email associated with your Microsoft account. Or purchasing a license could simply come with two copies similar to Microsoft Office. There are a multitude of ways to work around the issue. An alternate option would be to offer a discount to those that have already purchased one license. I would be more willing to buy a second copy if it were only say $20 than to pay the full price again. I hope that your team takes this idea into serious consideration! -Kalahgen
  12. I can't find a way to hide the pink paths that define my vector objects so I can preview what my drawing looks like. I'd say I was missing a setting, but it doesn't outline every shape on the screen, just some, and it seems to pick those randomly (see screenshot)
  13. Hi all, I see that the license for Affinity Photo is easily transferable on OSX using the same Apple ID. However, is a similar transfer also possible on Windows? I'd like to purchase a license, but plan to replace my machine in 3 months. Thanks! PS Sorry if this is a repost; i've checked the FAQ's and did a few searches but couldn't find the same question. Feel free to just link to the already answered question if this is a dup.
  14. This article relates to purchases direct from our own store https://affinity.store We license Affinity Software for iPad and Mac OS through their respective App stores, independently of Windows and the license is not transferable and needs to be bought for each independent OS (Windows/Mac/iOS) you wish to use it on. If you have a query regarding a placed order, that query should not be dealt with in a public forum like this, as we do not recommend sharing personal details like email address in public posts. Here are some solutions to common problems Where is the Designer 1.5 Launch offer Free Content? If you ordered Affinity Designer for Windows software during the launch offer, you should have received 3 emails 1 of 3 Welcome to Affinity (for Account Creation) 2 of 3 Affinity order confirmation - AXXXXXXXXX (for a Software Order or Workbook order) 3 of 3 Affinity Product Key - Order AXXXXXXXXX (for a Software Order) In the one titled "Affinity order confirmation - AXXXXXXXXX" you will find 2 buttons one to download the software and one called "Get the freebies" that links to the Grade-UI kit etc. You will not find this link in your online Affinity store account, only in the order confirmation email. Order emails have not arrived If you have ordered/paid for software on the Affinity store, you should have received 3 emails 1 of 3 Welcome to Affinity (for Account Creation) 2 of 3 Affinity order confirmation - AXXXXXXXXX (for a Software Order or Workbook order) 3 of 3 Affinity Product Key - Order AXXXXXXXXX (for a Software Order) If you did not get these (and they are not in your spam folder) then you will probably need our assistance to resolve this. As you have paid for the software we will locate your account and either refund the payment or if the email was typed in incorrectly, change the email address over to the corrected one. To get us to start this process, please email affinity@serif.com with your name, email address used on the order and how you paid and tell us what you bought (and when). We will do our best to find your account. and once found, we can tell you how to proceed. If it was an error in the email address used to create the account we will tell you what address it was created with and you can follow the next set of instructions in this post. Incorrect Email Address (but you know what you typed wrong) If you have ordered/paid for software, but accidentally used an incorrect email address on your account, then you should login to the account using the wrong email address (if you know what you typed and the password for the account) and change the email address to the corrected one. Your account will from that point onwards use the new email address for logging in. Changing Account Email Address If you wish to change the address used for your Serif Account then you may. All previous Affinity software product keys generated using the original address will remain unchanged. You should always install the software with the email address and product key pair as they were when you placed the order, and as they appear in your account order downloads page. Returns and refunds If you are not satisfied with your product for any reason, you may return it within a 14 day period after receipt of your product to receive a full refund to affinityreturns@serif.com . See the returns section of our help and support page for more details. How do I obtain a VAT receipt? See the Billing section of our help and support page for more details. Licensing Digital Software orders made from the Affinity Store can be installed by one user on any number of Windows PCs that are for the sole use of one person, OR on one computer for any number of users on it. The legal wording is replicated in the Digital Orders section in the store help guide.
  15. Hello everyone! I have a question about Affinity Designer: if i'm using Affinity Designer on windows since beta, i still need to buy it after beta expires? Thanks, Best regards!
  16. Hello folks, I am new to both Affinity Photo as well as photo editing in general. So in case of this is intended behavior, please forgive me :) Every time I want to use a selection tool (it really doesn't matter which one) I see the selection region on the photo for a brief moment and then the entire document area turns into a moving black-and-white striped diagonal lines pattern. Here's a short screencast: http://screencast.com/t/80pZwGhhK I'm using Affinity Photo Windows Beta 1.5.0.37 on Windows 10, 64-Bit. Just for completeness I'm going to mention that this is a Virtual machine. I am using VMware Workstation 12 Pro but I am pretty sure that this has no influences as every other software I am using for years now is working fine. Also, all other features in Affinity Photo I tried so far are working well. I also reinstalled Affinity Photo once to ensure that it's not some strange setting I once activated accidentally (I manually deleted the appdata folder and registry entries to ensure that no settings are left behind). Can somebody tell me whether this is a bug or whether I'm just doing something horribly wrong?
  17. When purchasing Adobe CC, you get a lot of fonts for free. Same thing if you buy Corel Draw. Is it the case with Affinity Designer too? If so, what are the fonts? I'm on Windows 10. Olivier
  18. If I buy Affinity Designer for windows will I then be able to use that licence later on with a different PC, for example on a future upgrade. Obviously I'm not looking to having more than 1 PC registered at the same time, just one after another.
  19. Hello! I'd like to know for how long I can keep a license of Affinity without using it after buying the software. The thing is that I want to take advantage of this offer with 20% discount and buy a license but I'll get a new computer soon, so I don't know if I'll be able to use the same license in the new computer or if I can save this license for a few months until I get a new laptop. Thanks in advance.
  20. I'm new to Affinity and just started with the Beta Testing on Windows. Between work and personal use though, I have Mac and Windows computers and would like to know if there would be a way to just make the one purchase. I know that's done with other software because it just keeps the keys or matches to which computer it's on, but don't know if that is offered with you guys. If you have to buy software for windows and mac separately, is there at least a bundle?

  22. Hey all, The Photo for Windows beta has proven incredibly popular, and I appreciate that, like with any software, there's a learning curve and the requirement to invest time in understanding the software's functionality and idiosyncrasies. With no firm commitment to delivering them consistently (that bit is important to note ;) ) I'd like to share some example editing/workflow videos. My aim is to demonstrate Photo's feature set and, hopefully, help viewers understand how the tools and features they're accustomed to using in other software can translate to Photo's implementations. If you haven't caught them already, it's also worth noting that there's a huge set of video tutorials for Photo available at http://affin.co/PhotoTuts - around 165 at last count. Here they are: Hadrian's Wall Link: https://vimeo.com/191642138 This video focuses on: Raw noise reduction and dithering Marquee selections from tonal ranges Layer masking Blend modes Blend ranges Channel duplication/loading to alpha mask Live filter layers Configurable layer behaviour Tiled Building Link: https://vimeo.com/191981432 This video focuses on: Accurate selections using selection brush tool Saving selections to spare channels Loading channel information into a layer's alpha mask Live brush previews Creative painting with blend modes Dynamic brush resizing on the fly Live Lighting filter Live filter layer mask painting Fast history scrubbing Portrait Retouching Link: https://vimeo.com/194985128 This video focuses on: Automated Frequency Separation Healing Brush and Clone Brush Merging visible layers Live filter layers Live brush previews and blend modes Changing/adding colour tones Changeable workflow behaviours via Assistant dialog Live scrubbing History panel Monochromatic Architecture Link: https://vimeo.com/194986066 This video focuses on: Adjustment Layers Live brush work with live previews Painting & Erasing Live filter layers Non-destructive noise/grain addition Canary Wharf Link: https://vimeo.com/203283705 This video focuses on: RAW development Tone Curve option Apply Image with channel equations Black & White adjustment with Multiply blend mode to knock out sky colour Pixel painting to enhance colours Curves tonal adjustment Live Unsharp Mask filter for final sharpening Banded Demoiselle Link: https://vimeo.com/203294769 This video focuses on: Creating selections with the Selection Brush Inverting a selection Masking an adjustment using a selection Tweaking layer opacity Live Lighting filter with blend mode Live High Pass filter with masking White Balance for tinting I'll keep you posted as further videos appear. 23. Why isn't there a download-thread with the latest release of Windows Affinity Photo Beta like for Windows Affinity Designer Beta?
  24. Hi, On PS I have the Tools toolbar moved to the right of the UI near to layers and other panels for ease of use. Will the function to move the toolbar be included in Windows version? cheers, Paul
  25. Hi, I note that Affinity Mac has Location Panel with map function. I cannot see this in the Windows beta? I have over 100,000 images with GPS Lon/Lat/Alt in the exif. Will the Map/Location function be included soon? cheers, Paul
