  1. Hi, I am a scientist and Affinity Designer is my de-facto first choice for making illustrations for papers, posters, etc. Because it's great, and it's affordable. But making a scientific poster is a hassle. A true hassle. Because I do need to use equations. How does one import an equation into a Designer? I found several options, none really works for posters -- keep reading: 1) create a small LaTeX document; (a) compile into PDF; have hours of "fun" with fonts and import options. (b) alternatively, compile into a PostScript, open a file browser, rename PS into EPS, drag-and-drop, if you're lucky, sometimes I managed to make it work. Caveat: if you have many equations, they need to be in individual EPS files, otherwise Designer will not like one EPS file constantly getting changed. (Bonus: open your poster from a year ago with 20 EPS figures in it. Click 20 times on a popup window saying the source has changed because you re-ran the computer simulation which created them. After clicking on one popup, wait for a smooth animation as 19 other popups slide around your screen. Repeat 19 times. Then, you can access your poster. Probably.) 2) use online converters. The one I know that reliably works is www.codecogs.com . But it does not allow for fonts bigger than 20 pts, and fonts in posters are at least 24 pts. So when I really need to insert an equation I do this: (a) type it in codecogs, (b) download SVG file (copypasting from the browser results in a little black rectangle instead of the equation). So download the file, open the file browser, drag and drop. Not into the poster, that would be too easy. Because then, I'll need to manually resize the image to match my font size. I have devised some templates to insert the file into and either resize to match the size of a sample character, or type in numbers in Designer's "transform" tool, for which I need a calculator at hand (would be nice to download in 12pt and resize in Designer by 200%, but alas - so I use a calculator). None of this is a good working solution if you need like 20 equations. Is there a working solution? I have heard of LaTeXit, but that won't work in Windows. MS Office has some weird equation editor, but that won't copypaste to Designer. Every single time I make a poster, I often spend hours searching for other options online and it gets inexplicably frustrating. Every. Single. Time! When I need a lot of equations, I make a LaTeX save them all as a PS, then convert to EPS (they still have to fit on one page), then open it in a separate Designer window, then convert to curves, then "Group" curves corresponding to all symbols in a single equation, then resize in bulk, then copypaste. Aaarrrggghhh. Has anyone have found any working solution? As I said, the solutions above work if you have one equation, but are a true hassle if you need to put in a dozen. (Unless there is an alternative to codecogs that lets you set large font size and hopefully works as a copypaste?) It would be really great for more than just posters, as I often use Designer for illustrations, in which sometimes I need to use equations, too -- that would make me never want to quit the Designer ever. Thanks!
  2. I have run tests with the Flaming Pear plugins: Super Blade Pro, Flood, Glitterato, Lunar Cell and Solar Cell. Although they do not work correctly right out of the box, all but one of these Flaming Pear Plugins can be run successfully in the Windows version of Affinity Photo 1.5.0.45 with a workaround. 1. When run within Affinity Photo, the preview window for Flaming Pear plugins splits the image into irregular segments, making it useless for assessment of the way the rendering will look when sent back to AF. However, the preview can be made to render properly if the active layer in AF is selected with the Retangular Marquee Tool before calling the plugin. This works for Flood, Glitterato, Lunar Cell and Solar Cell because they are designed as global applications for a layer. However, Super Blade Pro is usually applied to a local selection; thus you're stuck with a hit-and-miss approach to finding your desired plugin setting for that app. 2. Each Flaming Pear plugin comes with a library of presets (in a subfolder for the preset) which can be randomized in the plugin control panel. You may have to manually point the plugin to the subfolder when this is first run.
  3. When developing a RAW file (I have tried DNG and RW2 with same results), the images look completely different after clicking the Develop button in the Develop Persona. The image looks completely washed out. See the before and after attached. Using Windows 10, Affinity Photo version 1.7.3.481. Problem started recently, I have not changed any settings, same video card, display, color profile, etc.
  4. Serif allow customers to test new builds of the software even before it is released to the public. These "beta" builds offer an opportunity to trial bug fixes, add support for new file formats and show off new features before they are launched. This post is designed to be an aid to knowing if you are trying the latest beta version of the Affinity software on your platform. Product Name | Platform | Beta Ver. | ====================|====================|===========| Affinity Designer | Windows 7, 8.1, 10 | 1.8.0.514 | Affinity Photo | Windows 7, 8.1, 10 | 1.8.0.514 | Affinity Publisher | Windows 7, 8.1, 10 | 1.8.0.518 | Please see the last post in this thread for links to posts announcing these beta builds. Those pinned posts have download links to the beta software. Windows Customer Betas require you to be an owner of the paid for version of the software to work. You either need to have the software installed on the same computer as the customer beta OR if you bought direct from the affinity.store website you can provide the product key to activate the beta. If you would like to try the Windows Customer Beta build look for the top (pinned) post in each of these forums: Affinity Designer beta for Windows Affinity Photo beta for Windows Before we launch Affinity Publisher, if you are interested in trying Publisher please add a download to your store account here . The pre-release download is free and available for anyone to see if this new application will be right for you. Also keep an eye on the top pinned thread in these beta forums, for news of fixes, new file formats and additional features and early access to new build download links. Affinity Publisher beta for Windows Windows build numbers and Mac builds are technically independent. The third number increases each time a public release is made, the last number is generated by a build server and so not directly related to each other. We will update/edit this post as new Windows Beta releases are added by the developers, so the version numbers should always be right. We will also post to the bottom of the thread so the forum sends a notification to anyone who wants one This thread is locked and will only be posted to by Serif Staff when the beta release versions are updated. Please follow this thread if you want to know about future version changes. If you think this post has got behind announcing the Windows beta updates and needs updating please PM me.
  5. Hello, this is my first post to a forum so bear with me please. I found this bug on windows 64-Bit-Version, it was already a problem in the test version, but I thought it might go away in the professional one - it didn't. I downloaded this program recently, so it should be the latest version. If I want to change the lines selected in the table tool, it sometimes doesn't change. It keeps going back to select all the lines. Even if I restart my computer it doesn't change. Maybe after a few hours or a day or so, it works again and I can change it to other lines... I use this tool a lot and it throws me back a couple of hours or days in my work, so this is really really bugging me. Please watch the video for better understanding. Can this be fixed, please? 6. Can I process an image partly on Windows and later continue processing it on an iPad?
  7. On opening, the dialogue for the HSL Adjustment has the Picker button greyed out, and if one wants to use the picker to select a specific color from the image, they have first to select a color group. I don't understand why this extra step is necessary. If the Picker button was not greyed out, one could select EITHER a color group, OR the Picker..

Alternatively, this new release (and previous versions of Affinity Photo for Windows) can be downloaded from this link. (that installer is NOT for Windows Store purchases and needs a product key). If you’ve purchased from the Microsoft Store— Microsoft Store updates are done automatically by the operating system (each time you start the application). If this does not happen for you, open the Windows Store app and click the three dots in the top right corner of the app and then go to Downloads and Updates. Click Get Updates. This should hopefully force the update to show.
  9. It's difficult to know where to add a negative comment. I work at a learning centre, a non profit, for seniors getting confidence with technology. I think a few would be interested in Affinity Publisher and I would like them to try it our. Our classroom has 6 desktops. Serif have a good offer for educational establishments but only for 10 or more copies. That requirement is causing my much angst. And I would have members interested if we could produce ePubs, but no, that is not likely to happen apparently. So back we go to PagePlus which we have been using since version X4. Great pity we can't move forward., Doug Turner, SeniorNet Glenfield

  11. Hello, I am having repeat difficulty rendering panorama's since latest update to 1.7.3.481 Continual repeat crash when rendering panorama's (regardless 50-350photos each) PC Specs: i5, 4670k, 4.1ghz (water cooled, temps under 75 Celcius when 100% cpu) 32gb DDR3 / 1600 (XMP 2400) Raid 0 2x1tb Windows/Program Raid 10 4x4tb (Source folder's) 4tb Spare drive (stand alone) RX590 8gb "fatboy series" AMD Video Card. 3x Benq 24" Displays (1920x1080). Windows 10 Latest updates. All drivers thoroughly up to date. Page file not on Raids, just the spare 4tb. Affinity Photo, i've set for 8, 16, or 24gb's (it uses upwards to 28gb's if I max it of the original ram, before page). Still same issue. Right now I have 4x "pano" source folders, (1,2,3, & 4). All Source files are JPG/ Taken by Samsung S8+ 13mp each I believe. Folder 1: 355 Jpegs, Total 2.19gb Folder 2: 310 Jpegs, Total 1.98gb Folder 3: 276 Jpegs, Total 1.53gb Folder 4: 116 Jpegs, Total 723mb (0.72gb ish) I've tried a catch all at once, toss them all in and see. What is found, then render. I've tried separately to just do folder 4, or 3, etc, smallest first I figured... It can get to the preview part, but when rendering... after a few hours the app fully exits/crashes. I've monitored on Task manager. The drive/memory/cpu and some GPU is used. I'm grasping at straws here. I have done the intel raid check. 0 errors entirely. I've defragged thoroughly. I've trimmed startup apps, scheduled tasks, etc. Literally minimized to maximized performance. I've even set priority of affinity photo to "above normal" I'll happily adjust or customize settings further if any theories help. I recognize panorama's take TIME. I know this thoroughly. I check back every few hours to see progress pro/con. If anyone has suggestions/idea's, hugely appreciated. What else is needed here to proceed/gain support, but proactively in the right direction? - RMLeLoup P.S. Thanks in advance for the thorough read. Edit: Updated version #, Edit 2: How do I get a "crash report" ? If needed, i'll attach, and upload samples if required also. (Have 185/185 fiber/unlim, happy to ts, don't mind)
  12. I don't know if anyone else is having the same problem, but since the last update both Photo and Affinity have been crashing. I have never had any issue before, but now I dread the "not responding" half way through something. I have sparked it up again this morning and 5 minutes later it is "not responding". I can't wait for the next update because I fear for my sanity. Would it cause a problem with the program if I uploaded a previous version? Many thanks
  13. So I pretty much tried reinstalling affinity, clearing, reinstalling windows, updating windows, everything... Affinity photos and designer both give me this error when I try to save or export something. I'm on windows 10, 16G RAM, 500G SSD (33G free space), Intel 17-8550U CPU, and a GeForce graphics card
  14. I downloaded a newer update I was notified of and every time I tried, it fails. I uninstalled completely the older, WORKING, version of both Designer and Photo, and both keep failing install. I deleted the updated exe files, downloaded them again, still failing to install. I'm getting very frustrated because I just want to use my programs and design something already! Any help is very much appreciated! Thank you.
  15. Hi Folks, one question: i exported a 2 page testfile pdf with pulisher. Even though the 2 pages have the same the content elements/type (cause i copied them), in the exported pdf the right/second page has sharp text, the left page on the other hand is pixelated. What i am doing wrong:-)? Greetings from Germany Jo 20190925_Broschuere_148x148_2TEST.afpub 20190925_Broschuere_148x148_2TEST.pdf
  16. Hi, i'm seeing an issue in Photo Windows v1.7.3.481 where the execution of brush strokes stops working correctly. The behavior is that suddenly only the beginning and end of a brush stroke registers, causing a straight line between the points. I'm still trying to figure out a reliable reproduction path. System: Windows 10 1803 Enterprise Intel i7 5820K 128GB DDR4 RAM GForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB with 3x 1920x1080 displays Wacom Intuos Pro (Small) Logitech MX Master mouse Microsoft Natural Ergonomics 4000 Keyboard
  17. You guys are selling this in your store. Bought it with you 50% off promotion, but its seriously slow. To the point its not worth using. Is it the brushes or Affinity Designer or Photo? Slow in both. All other brushes are fine. Not my computer at fault..Can't buy much faster than this. https://affinity.serif.com/en-us/store/product/daub-paintbox-brush-pack/ If you dont' have a fix, i wouldn't mind my money back as its pretty useless the way it is. 20. I recently bought the Affinity Designer Work book. In the pages there are resources that I'm supposedly allowed to access and it is written such as: example.afdesign Does anyone know where I'm supposed to get access to this? I'm on windows also and I have the Windows beta version for Affinity. Would really appreciate it! Thanks!
  21. I bought all 3 Affinity Windows products directly from you, because I didn't know there was a Windows store option. Windows store updates are so much more convenient than a) open app, b) see 'update' message, c) click link and wait for download, d) launch downloaded file, e) click 'yes, update' button, e) click 'done' button. I have a bunch of Windows store apps, and they all get updated for me without fuss (just like my two Affinity iPad apps do). PLEASE let me switch licenses without buying all 3 apps again!
  22. Hi, Affinity Team. I have a suggestion for a program of Affinity series. A program of Animation frame by frame. I'd love to that idea. I hope you like! Yours sincerely, Lucas.
  23. Hi Serif, it looks like the issue I reported back in March was fixed just partially. The same issue occurs when trying to zoom when using the Mesh Warp Tool - see the screencast below. Thanks for a fix in advance.
  24. Hello. I searched for delayed typing and couldn't see any other postings in 3 pages. I'm just starting to learn Publisher and I noticed that when I type there is a large delay in the text coming out and I can't record with OBS to show. I have to type and wait for the letters to display for about 3 to 5 seconds after I type them. I only have been doing a few words at a time with the delay and it is severely slowing me down. My document isn't complicated and I only have a single image. I have to wait about five seconds for this to finish typing itself out: "This sentence takes about five seconds to fill in after I stop typing." I noticed that Publisher and Photo use a very large percent of CPU even when they were both minimized and hadn't been used in a few minutes, and Publisher was the same once when I had it open but wasn't interacting with it. I should have plenty of horsepower, and haven't installed any fonts yet. Thank you for your help. System: Dell XPS 15 9570, Windows 10 Pro v10.0.17134 Build 17134, Core i& 8750H, 32GB RAM
  25. Hi there, I am using the Affinity suite on Windows 10 and currently have to deal with an very annoying GUI issue. Since I use a 4k monitor, my windows uses a desktop scaling factor of 150%. Sadly, Affinity, doesn't seem to respect that entirely and displays tool buttons in a very tiny way that makes it nearly impossible for me to use them. Is there any scale setting that I could use to force scaling of this part of the UI here?
