  1. I have a Windows 10 laptop with a 7th gen Intel i5 CPU, an NVIDIA GTX 1050 GPU, and 8GB of RAM. I'm limiting my RAM usage in AD at almost all of it (7850 MB), have my dedicated NVIDIA GPU as the renderer, retina rendering set to "low" (don't know if this makes a difference with my regular 1080p screen), but with gradient dithering and precise clipping on. However, when I transform a shape, it's noticeably slower than 60 fps. Maybe at 30 or 25 fps with frequent frame rate drops (the frame rate drops also happen when using the pen tool, but the regular frame rate is noticeably smoother) and it sometimes doesn't update the whole workspace at once, so I see bits of my project lag behind others. I know my computer isn't an absolute beast, but shouldn't these kind of specs still be able to run a program like this faster?
  2. There are currently two (?) options to add effects to elements. You can add the FX from the Layers panel and you can add the FX from the Effects panel. Why is there a difference (see image)? Is the extra panel for Effects really needed if we can add FX from the Layers panel? And we can clearly see if a effect is added through the icon. I have no idea about programming, but me thinks that redundant functions / code could have an impact on the overall performance of a software?
  3. Steps to reproduce Create a mask Right-click on the mask and select Refine Mask... Screenshot Version Affinity Photo 1.7.1.404 OS Windows 10 Home (64 bit) | Version 1809
  4. Preliminary: Two identical images, one saved as TIF, one saved as PSD. Step 1: Place the TIF and in Resource Manager replace the TIF with the PSD. Result: The PSD is placed centered at the top left corner of where the TIF was placed. Step 2: Now replace the PSD in Resource Manager with the TIF. Result: The TIF is placed centered at the bottom right corner of where the PSD was placed.
  5. No complaint here. The idea behind this is wonderful, but IMO not thought to the end. But maybe this will be done in of the next versions of Publisher. Example: I select Pixabay from the Pulldown, search for dog and want to pick up a cute image that is obviously a clipart (or should be). Result: When you drag the image to the page, it is a bitmap with the largest size available. On Pixabay website you have the choice if you want to have a different size or file format. But maybe Serif has no choice how the pick the images from those libraries? Will it possible for us in the future to add other stock libraries or even write a script for retrieving a kind of personal stock library of images lying on our local / external harddrives?
  6. Maybe a bug, maybe a suggestion, maybe a wontfix and I have to live with this? In Acrobat Pro you can define the Touchup-Editors for objects or images. Editing objects / images opens the object or the image in Illustrator or Photoshop. My intention was to work only with the Affinity Range so I changed the editors to Designer and Photo. When I now select "Edit image / object" from within Acrobat the image / object is now a blank page with only the image / object on it. It would be nice, if I get only the image / object into Affinity Photo / Designer.
  7. My first steps in Publisher got me the feeling that the work is more or less a rule-of-thumb estimate. Cropping images / vectors and moving images inside picture frames are still an example. First example: Create a picture frame and place an image inside. Image should be bigger than the picture frame. Now I want to move the image inside the frame 2,35 mm to the left. How? I can move it manually, but not by value. First example not really a bug: Serif really loves to handle everything from the center. In the transform panel upper left handle is selected. Now change the scale of the image from the context bar e.g. to 200%. The scaling is not done from upper left, but from the center. Second example: Create e.g. a circle. Now click the crop tool. Again you can only crop the object manually and not by values. Using the transform panel would be easier and more precise. Second example not really a bug: Create e.g. a circle and crop it a little bit from the top. Move it to a guide line and it snaps correctly to this guide line. Now do a negative crop - meaning push the top crop handle a little bit over the top of the circle and deselect the circle. The negative cropped circle snaps also to the guide lines at the negative cropping. Cropping means cutting, so there could be in terms of the word no negativity? Or at least, that the cropping rectangle vanishes, when the cropping is negative. Secondly why am I able to give the cropping rectangle a fill and a stroke? Filling does nothing to the cropping rectangle, but making the stroke thicker for the cropping rectangle has an impact on the cropped object.
  8. Perhaps only on my PC that some images are linked wrong or missing? It is about creating table styles. See image. It would be also helpful, if the images / screenshot are made in the "correct" language. There are some English screenshots inside the German help.
  9. I am pretty sure I reported this a while ago: A word with 6 soft hyphens cannot be put into the dictionary.
  10. Maybe someone found out already how to make text form fields from a Publisher PDF? If yes, a moderator should delete this topic. It is possible to make text form fields out of an PDF, but I fear this is not a solution for all resp. I could not test with other software. My installed standard PDF reader is Acrobat X Pro. Attention: Only text fields can be created. So here are the steps to make a "form". 1. Use tables. Works with a single cell (see image) and works with multiple cells. Works not if the cells are not separated with borders - see image. Works not, if the column has not header with text in it. 2. Export to PDF. 3. Open the PDF with Acrobat Pro. Go to tools -> forms -> create and let Acrobat do the rest. Voila. A PDF with form fields. Saved my life yesterday, creating hundreds of textfields in a PDF is no joy.
  11. I downloaded version 1.7 and found that it has many Photo Persona problems, the biggest being that the masks don't work. I need to work on some photos NOW and don't have the time to mess around with a post production program. Version 1.6 worked just fine for me and I want it back. How do I re-install the previous version I had (ie. Version 1.6)?
  12. Oh my god, I am in a crisis I have built a 16-page document that is due tomorrow at the printers and affinity publisher has decided it doesn't want to open any of my documents no matter which way I try. I seriously will not get paid if this cannot be resolved by 12 o clock tonight. The program opens fine I open a doc it opens then immediately crashes, this process is the same whether I open from the recent link, open as new or open directly from the file itself? Any help would be humongous right now, thankyou Kane
  13. Hello everyone, I'm having an issue where both Affinity Designer and Photo stay at "Not Responding" for about 3 minutes when starting up the program and THEN it opens fully. Basically it is super slow to open. This is a clean install as I just bought the software and there's nothing else running on the PC and the PC is still new and running well so it's clearly a problem with the software. I already tried changing the performance options (Renderer to the dedicated GPU instead of the iGPU which is the default for some reason. Also tried WARP). As for how well the program runs once it opens it's, meh, it runs jerky, zoom animations are slow and panning is super slow (This is NOT 60fps as advertised, more like 5fps) BUT if I use the touchscreen it works quite well, much better than the touchpad. I tried the software on a Mac and it was amazing but on Windows it kinda sucks so far. My Specs are: Windows 10 Home (1903 / 18362.145) Intel i7-8550U RAM 16GB iGPU: Intel UHD Graphics 620 dGPU: Nvidia MX150 EDIT: It appears that panning and zoom have improved somewhat! But sadly it still takes super long to start and still says "Not responding".
  14. I'm posting this should anyone face the same issue of the installer failing due to being unable to access the \Affinity\Photo folder. When upgrading to 1.7.0.367 and again just now to 1.7.1.404 the installation failed because even I, as a windows 10 administrator, could not access (view contents or delete) the \Affinity\Photo folder. I could not take control of the folder and the first time spent a few hours finding what appeared to be an operating system issue and found an unexpected solution: by sharing the \Affinity\ folder as owner and rebooting, I could delete both folders and successfully install Photo. (note: this has been the only folder group I have ever had this issue with as far back as Windows1.1 ;-)
  15. Affinity Designer 1.7 will NOT install on clean install of Windows 10 v.1903 (x64) (ps... so did xara PGD) please advise - Godspeed & thank you !!!
  16. Just downloaded 'affinity-publisher-beta-1.7.0.337', attempted to install but was faced with a 'Setup cannot proceed' message: *Support Windows version not found Running Windows 10 Education x64 16GB Ram Nvidia GTX1060 256GB SSD, with 68GB Free Any help with this?
  17. Hello, I downloaded Affinity Photo 1.7 on Windows 10 64 bits. I got the following message quite immediately after launching the installation package: failure of the installation. Then I removed Version 1.6.5 and tried again, I got the same message. I then tried reinstalling version 1.6.5 but it failed again with the same message. I tried installing with option admin, no success. I looked for solutions on forum and tried many of them, again without success. Now I don't have Photo installed on my computer. Could you help me? Best regards. Pascal
  18. Hello there! Yesterday I downloaded the long awaited 1.7 update for Affinity products. However I immediately encountered installation issues. I get the following error: I have tried all the tips mentioned in the sticky: and the general tips for this type of issues on: https://www.minitool.com/backup-tips/this-app-cannot-run-on-pc.html as well as: https://www.drivereasy.com/knowledge/this-app-cant-run-on-your-pc-solved/#m1 I've tried running in administrator mode, white listing and shutting off SmartScreen. So far none of the suggestions have helped. I'm running: Windows 10 Enterprise 1809 64 bit version (17763.503) Please help me install the new version. Best regards Andréas
  19. good day everyone! hoping to get some insight on a weird behavior i can't seem to figure out. i've tried affinity software off and on for a couple years now and have always seemed to have problems. i decided to bite the bullet and buy the latest release instead of trying the trial once a year to see if the issues subsided. they are still present (very slow, processes remain in memory after program closure, no pressure sensitivity, etc), but i'll deal with those once i get this behavior sorted. i am using a dual monitor set up. affinity photo remains in one window (my primary) and i have no need to break it apart into separate windows. i use an intuos pro tablet instead of a mouse. i use a button on my pen to switch be tween monitors. the problem is this: when i switch to another monitor, or essentially move away from the AP window without focusing on another window, the cursor starts wigging out and cannot center properly in the window, nor behaves properly within the AP canvas. here is a video that sort of demonstrates what is happening: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2Gy0mzxJ-0 once i create a new document, you will see the cursor jump sporadically and flicker at times. this is me navigating to my other monitor and back to this one. i don't know if there's a setting i'm missing, either in wacom or affinity, that is causing this behavior. all drivers are up to date, and this is the only program on my computer that is showing this behavior. any thoughts as to what might be going on?
  20. My Panda Security Program (Win 10) detected SetupUI.exe as potentially dangerous during upgrading process. I downloaded Designer v1.7.0 and tried to overwrite v1.6.5.135
  21. I first noticed that tracking always switches back to 0% in the input field when I come back to edit later. So I made a test. As you can see at the bottom everything was set to 5 (I didn't touch Super/subscript). I don't know if the value in the baseline field is a bug too, or I'm missing something, but it's strange.
  22. Hello! Affinity Designer on mac for a very long time. I liked everything. Now I installed Affinity Designer on Windows. And I cry with bloody tears, I don’t understand why such “delays” are “glitches”. The canvas moves smoothly, but all panels (for example, layers, stroke) work very slowly, especially if they are “disconnected” from the interface. It is also difficult to move the panels, jerks and delays. By the way, in beta version 1.7 there are almost no such problems, everything works smoothly. Except for the layers panel PC configuration: intel i7-9800X CPU@3.80GHz GPU 1080 Ti 32g RAM Windows 10 pro Affinity Designer version 1.6.5.135 (downloaded from site) Can this problem be fixed?
  23. Hope someone can help, I am in the process of designing an A3 sheet background with a logo printed on multiple times which is fine that bit is done but I wanted to add a Gradient as well, I can select the tool but as soon as I start to draw out the Gradient my whole system locks up I cant even move the mouse and I have to reboot I have tried this twice but the same thing happened. I have attached the file if it helps L&G A3 Background.afphoto
  24. Just downloaded the Publisher Beta, but can't install. It says "Setup cannot proceed - supported windows version not found". This is strange because I am using Windows 10 Pro (64bit), has 4GB RAM, and has ample empty space in C drive. I also have Direct X version 12. So just wondering what could possibly go wrong? Does anyone has any idea? I have multiple designer files that I worked on before in another machine, but now can't use those in my current machine. Very frustrating! Please help.
  25. So, down the rabbit hole of color management for us! I'm on a Windows 10, 64-bit operating system with a run-of-the-mill Dell P2414H. I purchased a ColorMunki Display to calibrate my monitor. In the preferences of the program delivered with it, you have the choice of ICC profile version 2 or version 4. It defaults to version 4, but my Googling appears to suggest that version 4 may be problematic in numerous situations. However, I'm also having a hard time finding recent AND reliable info (ironically X-rite's own information is very dated). Of course, I'm most concerned about all this in Affinity Photo, so, first question: Do you advise ICC version 2 or 4? Can AP handle both of them (if that even comes into question), or is it better to use the older ICC version 2? And more largely (second question), is there anything specific that I need to do to make sure that AP is... correctly calling upon the monitor calibration information in the icm file? I'm asking because I also use RawTherapee for more "in-depth" raw development, and in that program, you have to indicate the monitor's color profile (point the program to the current monitor calibration icm file, so to speak). I don't see any such thing in Affinity Photo, although I do think Affinity Photo is completely "color managed"(?). So, I suppose there i a third implicite question: How does AP insert itself into the color management pipeline on any given computer? De excuse me if my terminology is off; I hope everything is understandable and thank you all in advance for your feedback!
