Hey there, very similar to another much older thread, I have a problem with filter/adjustment windows opening on a different display, a pen display to be precise, instead of the expected main screen. Most of the time, especially when precision is needed, the pen display is turned off but remains connected to the computer. Resetting Studio, as suggested in the mentioned thread, only works if done via Master Reset (holding a specific key while launching the application), and even then only the first time a filter/adjustment is clicked. After the first time it behaves as above. It's incredibly frustrating because, you have to switch focus to another screen and turn it on (because it doesn't matter whether it's on or off!) while you're working on the main one every single time and leave it running just to move the properties window over to the main screen. Some information about hardware: OS: Windows 10 Home, Version 21H2 Pen Tablet Modell: HUION Kamvas 13 GT-133 Pen Tablet Driver: Driver_15.7.4.183 The expected main screen is connected via DVI, the pen display is connected via HDMI + USB for input. Something I noticed: The expected main screen is shown as »2«, the pen display as »1« in the system's monitor settings – but I can't reassign these numbers, and I'm not sure they actually reflect the primary and secondary monitors. I assume that the taskbar would actually act as an indicator of what the primary and secondary monitors are, and since it's on my regular monitor, I assume it was the primary monitor. If anyone could help me solve this problem it would be greatly appreciated as it is slowly but steadily draining my creative juices. 🪫 Cheers! Edit: This affects the whole suite, not just Photo!

I used the Pen tool to select the canvas; if you switch to the Selection brush you can use Refine to, well, refine the selection -- it will do much of the work for you, so you don't have to work so hard with the Pen. I matched the drawing to the mask with the Perspective tool.

Hi yesterday I bought Affinity Photo, before I used Ps. My problem is I am switching quite often from my PC to Laptop and now I am trying to sync my stuff between my devices. (I know affinity is not cloud based like photoshop, but I am trying to do like a own thing with my Nas) I already was able to sync my workspace via my NAS. So in which folders/files are the brushes and fonts stored? Bzw other important files? then I can sync my them via my nas Thanks Willibald -
How can I display thumbnails in the bottom of the works space so I do not have to open and close each file? Opening and closing each file takes way to much time when editing hundreds of images from a photo shoot. I do not see any indication of this ability in the help area. RJ -
I'm new to Affinity Designer, coming from Adobe Illustrator. Still a learning curve, but the transition has been pretty smooth so far, so that's awesome. One thing that I'm missing however is the flexible tabs/windows, so the ability to drag the windows from the tabs. So for example when I open 5 different vector files for, it creates 5 tabs. Each file sits in it's own tab. In Photoshop or Illustrator, I could just mouse click and drag each one these tabs out, so they create a free floating windows. I could then just drag the artwork elements from one window to another. In Affinity, this doesn't seem possible. So the tabs stay tabs and the only way to place artwork from one tab to another is to copy and paste as I can't drag the artwork between the tabs. Or is there a way to do this? Also Adobe has a feature called 'Paste in place'. So when I copy an element from one artboard, I can paste it into the exact same spot of the other artboard (if the artboard is of same specs of course) Is there anything like this in Affinity? Thanks -

Hi, I have a recurrent problem in Affinity Designer 1.7.1 when using the command PLACE under the FILE menu. The new window is taller than the screen and both buttons stay out of the sight. I can use ESC or RETURN keys on keyboard, but in both cases the whole Affinity Designer window is deslocated 16mm below and needs to be moved back to its original position.

The Color Chooser dialog does not remember its position between closing and re-opening it. It always appears in the dead center of the screen. Considering how helpful position-memory is, and how the Layer Effects dialog *does* remember its position, I think it's reasonable to request that the Color Chooser do so as well. I'm trying out Designer with the hope that it can replace Illustrator. The software has been wonderful so far, but it's incredibly annoying that the Color Chooser plasters itself over the middle of my work every time I open it. -
I thought the problem was gone but it still seems to be there. If I just move the cursor over a picture without even pressing a mousebutton the window (including content and window scales at the side) randomly but frequently does a complete redraw. This is independent how far the movements are. It can happen between 5 times a second to every 5 seconds - unpredictably. This of course results in constant flickering of the window when you work with it. First I thought it was related to my wacom tablet but it happens with the mouse as well. I tried to record it with a screen capture program but all the time screen capture is running it does not happen at all. The redraw does not affect the AP program elements e.g. toolbar or even floating panels over the window itself. Cheers, Timo

Everytime I start Designer and create a new document the window is very small sized. How can I set a default size for new windows? Attached pics show actual and wanted size. ------ macmini, Yosemite, Monitor: Dell U2717D (2560x1440)

I am using AP latest app store version 1.6.7… when multiple files are opened I noticed that one cannot access other opened documents through the "Window" menu as it only lists the single current tab in focus, but when going into separated mode, it functions normal as expect, going to the "Window" menu lists all the opened document to access. Yes when using tabbed mode interface, once can simply click the tab itself to access the opened file, however some of us prefer the listed option through the "Window" menu to navigate and it can be unnecessarily cumbersome to switch over to separated mode everytime to use the "Window" menu if the user prefers to never use separated mode to begin with. Also some of us prefer to stick to dark color interface, but often using the "Window" menu to select a document is easier to read as Mac OSX default menu colors are much lighter with larger text making it easier to identify at a glance. Please consider, adding a way to list all opened documents through the "Window" menu when not only in isolated mode, tabbed mode would be great too. -
Is it possible to save a custimized setting of window/pane positions? It appears to happen accasionally with 2 open documents that choosing "Window" > "Merge all Windows" results in a crash and closes the Application. After reopening the app all panes are spread somehow chaotic on my two monitors and neded to get reanged. And: how can I go back to the deafult window/pane setting? Meanwhile the tool and document and the long pane with the persona icons aren't locked anymore to the main monitors edges and partially covering the document window. -
I am using Designer on a 27" Mac. When I create a new document its window dimensions are small compared to the screen and it is off-set from the top-left corner by several inches. So the first thing I have to do for every new project is move the window and resize it. It seems like the defaults were set for a 13" MacBook. Is there a way for Designer to remember the window size and placement of the last document and use that for new documents? -
I'm not sure if this subject has been addressed before or not but I did a quick search and didn't find anything. is there a way for me to separate the boolean operations and the arrange tools from the toolbar and combine them into a floating window along with the transform window? it's just part of the workflow that that I'm used to using from AI. -
Can you guys include this feature in Photo/Designer on the Windows version? I use floating windows for things like Views when working at different zooms, on screens with differing resolutions, etc... it is really essential to my workflow. They take up an unexpected amount of space often because they do not adjust to the size of the document when zooming further out, and so I have to adjust manually which can't be done easily to precision... so an option like in photoshop to automatically adjust the window size on zoom would be very nice...

I'm pretty sure there are other requests for this, but being able to save window arrangements/layouts into custom workspaces is a pretty essential feature. I use Photoshop and Illustrator, but will sometimes use Affinity Designer and Photo for fun. My Illustrator is CS6, so I'll often use Designer to at least convert my AI vector to a more modern/stable copy or just design it in Designer if I don't need to use the Illustrator features I'm use to using. Having to rearrange my windows every time or make due with the default layout everytime I switch to an Affinity program is extremely cumbersome. On the whole, I love the programs Serif Labs have put out and think they're extremely functional and promising. It's fun and exciting to see how they're progressing and I hope they continue developing like they've been doing -
I've updated my Affinity photo to latest version (1.6.3) and now I'm having problem of program keep crashing/Closeing down when I click any of buttons on either on menu or tool bar/navigation etc.(Close down program automatically with making pop up sound but no error message or pop up). I did not had this problem with previous version. It seems like I can open file like EXR or JPG with it, but as soon as I have any kind of interaction with it, it crashes and close down the program. My PC specs are: Window 10 Home 64-bit OS 32 memeory AMD RyZEN 7 1700 CPU Nvedia GPU(With latest update) -

First of all thank you for the improvements in windows handling in the latest beta 1.6.3.98 - this is already a good step in the right direction. I'd like to add some further optimisations on the window topic: 1) When you drag & drop a file from the windows explorer please: - open it in an undocked window (elsewise no second drag an drop is possible unless you float the first window)! - if possible in 1:1 Zoom (not enlarged to windows size as in place right now) - and with an adapted windows size to fit the original file 2) When you float a or all windows please make the floating window(s) fit the picture in the current zoom level (optimal windows size) - if it fits in the workspace. 3) If a window is larger than the original document (regardles if docked or floating) please automatically center the document within the new window (and disable the view tool in this window). If you resize a floating window smaller than the document: dock the document at the top left corner. Maybe it makes sense to implement a general setting "Always center documents when smaller than window". If a document is smaller than the window there is no need to be able to move the document within the window. One could avoid accidentally "loosing" the document in "outer space" if it would always be centered in the docked window (if smaller than the window) 5) When you work with docked and floating windows in combination you can't bring the docked window to the front. This is a general problem. It could be solved by only allowing docked or floating windows mode but no mixture. Floating windows can be brought to the front. 6) It would be nice to arrange all floating windows optimized on the workspace (e.g. horizontal, vertical, tiled) with one click (menu command) 7) Also nice to have: additional information of document size (height/width in current units somewhere at the windowsframe of a document) 8) If I undock many documents why do they cascade at the top right(?) corner of my screen? 9) Drag and Drop of layers between documents should be possible These are just some suggestions that come to my mind. Opening an existing image in AP shows a quite small window with my chosen image in it. Why does the windows open so small and not open to fill the whole space (see 2 images - What I get and What I want), it is tedious to rejig every image file I open in AP. Even if I save the image file in the size I wish it to open, it does not. -

I like to have a shortcut available to reset rotation since it happened many times to me , i design mostly with my MacBook pro on the go, (thanks to your software i can even get work done on my girlfriend's base model 12 inch, god bless you guys for that.) and i rotate the screen accidentally , i'd like a fox for that. i know a bit about US so i suggest 3 ways to approach this issue: 1. Tiny Pop Up button on the side of the screen, to appear whenever the the screen is not adjusted. (this doesn't have to be on AP since thats mostly work done on photo but on the other hand, for experience consistency i would suggest that to be tried at least.) 2. pop up button available on touch bar whenever canvas is rotated. 3. keyboard shortcut.
