  1. Hey guys! I am very new to graphic design so you'll have to excuse my lack of knowledge. I recently purchased Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer for my Mac. I am trying to find the best solution to being able to draw basic sketches and diagrams. I don't need to be able to draw anything with great detail or very artistic. I have an iPad 4th generation (so not a Pro) and I am wondering if there is an app I get use to be able to draw on my iPad to interact with Affinity Photo or Designer. Another option I have been exploring is buying a Wacom. What advice can you give me as to whether I would be better off using my iPad with a specific stylus or purchasing a Wacom. What are my options? Thank you!
  2. Hi, When I scale a vector shape or a group of layers, I can't see fluidly how the object increases or decreases, I only can see the new size when I left the handlers. This issue only appears working with Wacom Intuos 4, if I use the mouse there's no problem! I'm using Designer 1.5.2 (beta 3) + Yosemite 10.10.5.

  4. Hi..for drawing i mostly use my cintiq..and it could be great if the menu there had "expand stroke" or brush menu or toolbar for converting edges or adding/dividing etc. shapes..and maybe a delete button..i am bad with those express buttons and with my companion i rarely use keyboard.. i think that those things would speed up drawing process a lot :) ..+just using it for half an hour and i think that affinity is super great :) you rock:)
  5. Dear users, I just tried editing in Affinity Photo using a Wacom pen and tablet instead of the mouse and something ist quite strange for me. With the mouse, when I change for example a color adjustment with a slider, like changing color saturation, I can move the slider and the image shows instant preview. The change is made then, when I release the mouse button. That's like I would expect. But using the pen and tablet, there is no preview, when I drag a slider. The image just changes, when I lift the pen, which is like releasing a mouse button. This is quite irritating, because one cannot adjust a slider properly without preview. Does anybody know how to change this behavior? Moving a slider with the pen should do the same than moving it with the mouse. Thanks and best regards, Berin

I like these apps but the brush engine is really poor, it really doesn't respond well- I need to edit the brushes alot and move the flow right down to 5 percent just for it to work more like Photoshop and other apps, even then it doesn't feel right, the best brush engine I've seen is sketchbook pros. I've changed all the settings - setting it to pressure ajust jitter etc still no good, or not good enough for professional work, Also resolution of brush strokes can be a bit pixelated on a macbook retina screen. Please developers play around in sketchbook pro for a bit,see the difference, apart from this both designer and photo are fantastic apps.

Siehe beiliegendes Video (1. Versuch mit Maus, 2. Versuch mit Wacom-Tablett). Viele Grüße Newstone ---- translated with Google Translator: Hello there, I've discovered a problem with my Wacom tablet and Affinity Photo. If I change the settings with the mouse at matching and filter layers, they will be immediately visible. Changing with the Wacom pen they are visible only when I take the pen from Wacom tablet. The same Behave I note also at Affinity designers and it also occurs in adjusting the opacity of the layer. Refer to the attached video (1st try with mouse, 2nd attempt with Wacom tablet). 9. I've got an older Wacom Intuos 3 tablet and pen that fails to incorporate pen sensitivity on my Affinity Designer files. I've installed the most current Wacom Driver (3.15-2) for use with the most current version of El Cap (10.11.2). The pen and settings work fine in PhotoShop CS4 (using the brush in a layer) but in Affinity Designer. I'm new to Affinity Designer and am wondering if the lack of pen sensitivity is due to old equipment being used in a new program, or if I am missing something to be set in the brushes panel. If the problem lies with the brush settings, will you please direct me to a way for learning about correcting the settings. Many thanks!
  10. Hi, I really like to draw with Designer, but sadly, I can't use it for most of my designs, because they get completely broken after pasting them to Sketch, Photoshop or Keynote: Check the append screenshots: Steps to reproduce: 1. Start Affinity Designer 2. Select Pencil 3. Set controller to anything but None 4. Draw something with Wacom (or with mouse and acceleration) 5. Select pencil strokes 6. Copy 7. Paste to Keynote, Sketch or Photoshop 8. The artifacts also appear when exporting as EPS. Assigning a brush-stroke shape with constant width removes the problem but looks ugly. Interestingly, every brush-shape preset produces different but reproducible artifacts. Does anybody else had the problem? Any hints or work-arounds? BR, tom
  11. I recently was able to purchase a large Wacom Intuos 5 Pro tablet and am looking for a program that enables me to paint, blend, layer images/drawings/paintings, cut out images, and add images to new ones...In short, an alternative to Photoshop that isn't outlandishly expensive. I would love to blend my classical/impressionistic painting with 21st century techniques to achieve the final outcome onto canvas faster. I saw the Affinity Photo trailer and was Immediately stoked. My question is, what are the differences between Affinity Design and Affinity Photo? Does Photo have many drawing/brush effects to integrate my Inuos 5 with? I think the clip I saw answered my curiosities but I want to make sure I'm on the right track. Thanks :D !!
  12. Hello, Is it possible to make Vector Brush Tool more predictable? Line width changes as soon as I release a button. Here's how it looks in Affinity Designer: And here's how brush pressure looks like in Photoshop: I use Wacom Intous 4 with Pressure Controller turned on. Here's brush settings:
  13. Hi - excited to try out my preview copies of the Affinity products in the next couple days - two quick questions.... This first one is probably obvious once I install the aps, but I'll ask anyway: is there full support in the Photo Ap for Wacom pen tablets (pressure and tilt)? Next question - It has been a year and a half now that I have waited for Adobe to give dual video card support in their GPU preferences... I have a Mac Pro with dual video cards but Photoshop only uses the VRAM from one of the cards - not both - so basically late 2013/14 Mac Pro owners have one dormant video card in terms of VRAM. Do the Affinity apps take advantage of all the VRAM available on the New Mac Pro dual video cards? (so far that I know, only Final Cut Pro takes advantage of this). Thank you for the answers. Jeff
  14. Hello, with Affinity Designer I can on the pressure intensity of the pen, the brush thickness via control -> Set pressure. But I want to set on the pressure opacity. How does it work? Thanks Newstone (Translated with Google Translate)
  15. Hi, I'm using Affinity Photo with my Wacom Pen and Touch and the pen pressure is not working as expected. When pressure button is pressed the size of the brush varies, but the dynamics panel (that shows up within "More" settings) seems not working at all. I've probed to ajust to "Pressure" several options, but there's no visible results. Am I doing something wrong, or the pressure just works with brush size? Thanks for the help.
  16. I'm using the free 10-day trail at this point. I draw with an Intous3 Wacom tablet and have not been able to make my pen work with pressure sensitivity in the program . Does anyone have a solution or have experienced the same issue? Thanks.
  17. Hi folks, I'm new to mac and I've been looking around for some good photo editing software to use for creating concept art. Affinity looks excellent for its price and I worked with Serif software before switching to mac so I know I'll be using good software. So I'd love the purchase it. But, my mac only has a 32-bit version of Yosemite OSX. I was wondering if the software would still work for what I wanted it for which is mainly painting using a pressure sensitive Wacom tablet. Any advice on this would be great Thanks!
  18. I wish there is a better and more precise cursor in the next update. (At least a crosshair option available) As in the attached gif file. It's hard to see the center point of the cursor and also the size of the brush related to my stylus pressure (I'm using Wacom tablet).
  19. Hi. New to Affinity Designer (and the forums.) I've been searching in the forums as well as the net, and I can't really figure out why the pressure-sensitivity isn't registering. I've tried to set my Controller set to both "Automatic" and "Pressure." Sometimes (rarely) it works - other times there is no obvious difference. I've also set the "Size Variance" to 100%. Any suggestions? Thanks!
  20. Hi, scrolling through layers is not behaving as I would expect when using a Wacom tablet, or similar (other tablet providers are available..) 1. Select a layer. 2. Hold the 'middle mouse' button on the pen. 3. Grab any other layer to scroll up or down through the layers. 4. The layer you happened to grab in order to scroll has now become the selected layer, and the layer you had originally selected is no longer selected. This is especially problematic as is means that you are unable to shift select an amount of layers that is larger than the available screen space eg... You have 100 layers, you want to select layers 25 through to 75. You can't do this with a tablet pen, because the moment you try to scroll down to get to layer 75, layer 25 gets unselected :[ I would expect the middle mouse button of the pen to have no effect on the layers panel, other than to grab the layers and scroll through them. It should not select or unselect layers. Thanks Wayne
  21. Hi, I've noticed that when I select a dynamic brush with size variation (pressure or velocity) and try to use it using may wacom tablet, the result is a uniform stroke. I've tried to use different kinds of brushes but the size variation only works in Pixel Persona. Thanks.
  22. I just started trying out Affinity Designer and I was trying to "ink" some pencil art I scanned in. I'm using the "brush" tool with the variance set at 100% trying to get good varied line widths. I trace the line and the preview, as I'm drawing the line, looks correct but when I lift my stylus, it's nothing like the preview. It's either all thick or it snaps back to being a thin wispy line. Even changing my sensitivity in the Wacom preferences doesn't seem to help much. Am I missing something? I'm using a Cintiq Companion Hybrid and also trying it with a Wacom Intuos Pro. Same thing happens on both. Macbook Pro 15" (late 2011) with 16GB RAM running Yosemite (completely updated)
  23. Hey fellow AD'ers! I recently added an Intuous Pro tablet to my setup, and was looking around to see if anyone had some great presets/configuration ideas for integrating the numerous buttons on the tablet with AD. Thanks for any input!
  24. Currently both ends of the Wacom pen act as the same tool while drawing. Also, when switching between the brush and eraser tools, it would be nice if the size of each respective tool would remain independent from the other. Changing the size of the eraser shouldn't affect the size of the brush, and vice-versa.
  25. Are there plans for the Gallery and Pressure Tabs for Affinity?
