  1. ’Allo ’allo … Back again with Today’s Dumb Question: Why Isn't ‘Auto-Distribute’ Activating in AD 1.10? Please see the attached image of the setup for a proposed document. Simple, really. A few resizable squares which serve as placeholders for text. BUT: they need to be properly distributed. I've watched the Affinity Tute ( https://affinity.serif.com/en-gb/tutorials/designer/desktop/video/301625950/ ) that demos the way AutoDist should work … but doesn't - and isn't. I can access Alignment thru the Layers panel, but that does nothing. It even fails to align all objects’ centre point, both horizontally and vertically. I thought that wasn't possible. Please advise if you note anything that I'm not doing (or doing incorrectly). Everything is (or appears to be) set up correctly for the objects to be auto-distributed - but the AutoDist does not light up and make the function active. I'm so puzzled. Thanks in advance for your assistance.
  3. Hi, I reported this bug in January for beta version, and for some time it looked like it was repaired, but now it makes troubles again. In the attachment, I created 2 identical vertical image containers by using the Picture Frame Rectangle Tool in the tool bar. I placed a vertical image in the first vertical picture frame and it was placed turned by 90 degrees to the left (it behaved in the same way when placed it in a horizontal picture frame). Then I placed a horizontal image in the second vertical picture frame, and the image was placed correctly. So it only mess up placing vertical pictures. I thought at first the problem has something to do with my master pages that I created in winter in the beta version, but these examples were made from scratch to test the placement a couple of min ago. Could you please see to it? Making photo albums is the only purpose I bought the Affinity Publisher for, but it makes my work so complicated. Thank you.
  4. I work a lot with Japanese texts and this would be my request feature number 1. When you are writing in horizontal, you can change your selected text to vertical orientation. (When I tried , that bar didn't flip from horizontal to vertical.) Like this example: (カレー). (This is wrong writing) x (This is acceptable) カ カ レ レ x ー > | That also works inside Text Editor for mac, when you go to Layout Orientation > Vertical. My other suggestion is to add something like World and iPages that is called > Phonetic Guide Text. (It's used for both Japanese and Chinese called Furigana or Ruby) Japanese Indesign has all these features for writing in Japanese too. Arigatou!
  5. Can Artistic Text be typed vertically in Designer or Photo? I don't mean typing it horizontally then rotating it 90° nor a long narrow text box, I want to use Artistic Text.
  6. Hey! I've bought Affinity Designer about a day ago and haven't found out how to center a object (e. g. Text) inside another element (e.g. rectangle, square, ..). I know there's a way to center an object inside the whole page (using Layer -> Align -> Center) but I don't know if there's a way to use this tool to also center something inside another element. And is there a shortcut for the above called menu buttons? It's pretty unhandy to navigate through the menu everytime I want to center a text on the whole page. Greetings, Lars
  8. Would like to have a vertical panorama capability where you can stitch images vertically as easily as you currently can horizontally. This would aid in architectural photography and creative art applications. Current panorama tool will not allow this or if it will I don't know how to apply it where the result is anywhere near satisfactory. Currently it warps the images into a distorted mess.
  9. Hey AD pals, help here would be greatly appreciated. I have a logo design done on my MacBook with AffinityDesigner 1.5.4 and have it set up as a document on an artboard with both vertical and horizontal Cut and Bleed lines visible on the document in all 3 Personas. The Cut and Bleed lines were done 'by the book' using the menu item 'Guides Manager' and the file has been named and saved. My problem/question: I need to export this artboard showing the Cut and Bleed lines to the sticker printer however when I go into export mode and export it (so far have done .pdf, .jpeg, and .eps), the file described above exports successfully but WITHOUT the Cut and Bleed lines being visible in the exported file. Please advise on where I'm going wrong and/or what step I am missing. Thank you! -Christo
  10. Hello friends :) Can anyone help me with centring text vertically in Affinity Photo? Can find horizontal no problem, but vertical alignment feels elusive. I've done some searches and found a few people asking for this back in 2015, but nothing conclusive about whether the feature exists or will ever exist. Why I want it in case you can help me find a better way :) I'm doing cover design for a book and want to align the text on the spine (currently rotated 90 degrees) so that it is centred. "Roughly right" with the Mark 1 eyeball is how I'm doing it at the moment, but I suspect the Mark 1 eyeball has a bit of an error rate. Thanks in advance. Affinity feels like the best software purchase I've made this year.
  11. Hi, I work with an occidental version of Affinity Photo, but know some Japanese and would like to insert a vertical Japanese text into a picture. I couldn't find how to write a text vertically in Affinity Photo. Would you know that ? And I don't know how to add "Japanese" to the list of the defect languages.... Thanks a lot, Robert
  12. I'm a new user of the Affinity Designer. I'm wondering if I can change the text to flow vertical while keeping the upright text orientation. For example, Chinese and Japanese text can be written vertical direction.
  13. Ever notice that your workspace/interface needs are quite different when you're working in 1) Portrait orientation versus 2) Landscape orientation? It's already quite constraining that computer screens are landscape-shaped – who ever told Steve Jobs and Bill Gates that computers should prioritize left-right over up-down?? Blame the fact that CRT displays evolved from Television tubes. :^( But damn them for making LCD screens even more h-o-r-i-z-o-n-t-a-l! But if you're designing a vertical layout or (lord have mercy on you!) an actual vertical portrait, you're reduced to cursing the gods of prevailing horizontality. We portraitists have to make the best of it, and get every vertical obstruction off to the side of the screen. Affinity, you can HELP! Please give us the option of switching the Toolbar into a vertical bar! (I know you'd have to figure something out for the doc tabs & parameter readouts, but you'll sort it out in your usual clever way.) A gift from heaven would be a toggle/switch command to flip from your usual interface layout, to one customized for portrait/vertical documents – with a vertical Toolbar. (I'm aware of Separated Mode and Toggle Full Screen – very helpful. But I need the toolbar and the info read-out, and don't want to be constantly Tab-Toggling interface On & Off, or Tool Bar Opt-Cmd-T.) Thanks for your serious consideration! - pbass
  14. General UI Layout: Vertical Space Usage There's something that drives me _bananas_ about PS Elements; but it's also a concern about almost every graphics & photo app in existence: Most User Interfaces squander valuable vertical screen real estate, heedlessly and unnecessarily. Here's the situation: - Modern screens are much wider than tall. - Many people spend at least some of their productive time working on a little laptop screen. - Even with Retina displays, it's often necessary to limit screen res, for UI legibility. - Documents, layouts and graphics are just as likely to be portrait orientation, as landscape. So obviously vertical space is way more likely to be a problem than horizontal. When you're working on a portrait style page or a tall object, every last vertical pixel is precious. (Worst case scenario: Editing a portrait in PS Elements, you're lucky to have 30% of screen pixels for your image!! Absurd.) This is probably more of a request for the upcoming Affinity Photo app; but it sure would be useful to have in Designer, too: It would be über useful to have at least the option of getting all interface elements off to the sides to allocate all vertical resources to the document/page. 2 different UI layout presets, maybe? – 1 for landscape, 1 for portrait? Thanks for your consideration!
  15. How can this be done? I can center the text horizontally. Would also be great to be able to write text in an object like in Apples „Pages“.
  16. My first question here! :-) Love the paths! Just a first thing that I don't get to find (maybe not implemented yet?) I know that I can press SHIFT to force Horizontal, Vertical, 45 degrees, when drawing. OK. But, how to force to that angles H/V/45 to some existing handles? (previously created, I mean) In Illustrator/Photoshop we press SHIFT. But Affinity uses that key to maintain existing angle (a fantastic utility, I love it). Thanks!
  17. Ideally would love to have 2 buttons - to lineup nodes vertically and horizontally - up there with the flip and rotate buttons in the top tool bar. In illustrator it's called "averaging" and it's a 2 step operation, which is a bit of a pain if you do it a lot. See screenshots. There is even an option for both, which can be handy when you need to have two nodes on top of each other or want them to be centred. I can't find a way to do this yet in AD with nodes. If there is way to line up 2 or more "nodes" either vertically or horizontally please let me know. I've tried aligning but that seems to align to coordinates in the document - centre, left, right, top and bottom... Cheers for any insight.
