  1. I'm not quite sure if I can explain this in a way that makes much sense so I'll let the screenshots do more of the talking; what I'm trying to do is use the "subtract" function to create and effect on the "Neon Dreams" piece similar to that of the other screenshot, with the transparent lines, I don't want to make it too complicated so I hope the screenshots help make everything make sense. I know what I have to do but it seems that I can't because I'm trying to subtract an existing compound? Am I doing something wrong here? Thanks. Dylan
  2. The lion and the unicorn were fighting for the crown, The lion beat the unicorn all around the town. Some gave them white bread, and some gave them brown; Some gave them plum cake and drummed them out of town. I thought it would be much better if they made it up and went for a pint at The Crown. It's done in Designer, with a couple of brief excursions into Photo to blur the background and stop it competing with the important bits, and to reduce the brightness of the unicorn a little. The woodgrain and the badges on the beer pulls are bitmaps acquired online, but otherwise everything is my own.
  3. Thought I would share another Beauty of Edo. It was all done using Designer and it is all vectors (with some effects added). Thanks for checking out my work. Hokusai
  4. I saw this Utamaro print somewhere and I liked the print but it wasn't in very good shape, which is too bad because it is a nice print, so I recreated it using Designer and gave it sharper lines and new colours. I hope that you enjoy it. Thank you for taking the time to view my work. Hokusai
  5. Hey everyone, I'll attach a screenshot of my problem at the endn of the thread, but what I'm trying to do is merge these 3 curve layers into one flat object that I can put a gradient on (I wasn't able to do this with a rasterised pixel layer?) Is there any way I can do this? My issue with applying a gradient to the current set is that the gradient doesn't apply to the outline (which one of the layers uses as seen in the second screenshot) Are there any ways to do this or any workarounds? Thanks, Dylan EDIT: I know I could join curves but that would mess up some of the nodes and their placement wouldn't it?
  6. Here is a tutorial for how to do a simple drop shadow using affinity designer....figured I would share drop shadow working file.afdesign
  7. I'm having trouble opening all EPS files from Affinity Designer. I bought some vectors from Creative Market. But whenever I open any EPS file in Affinity Designer, all I get is a white page with nothing on it. I can see the individual elements in the Layers Tab, but even if I select those or do whatever all I can see is just a white screen. I've bought from several artists in Creative Market and I can't open any of their EPS properly. What's wrong with my Affinity Designer? Opening EPS is one of the published features of Designer. And I've done some googling in YouTube and in these forums and everything says that opening EPS is as simple as opening any file in Affinity. But how come my Affinity Designer is just giving me a white screen? My Affinity Designer is version 1.6.4.104 and I've only just bought it this year.
  8. Hi everyone, I'm trying to move these circles to all be an equal distance from each other as well as the points of the triangle, it doesn't seem possible with the snapping system and I have no clue how to move them the way I want, can anyone help? I've attached a screenshot Thanks
  9. So I'm trying to use a few triangles on a larger triangle, using compounds to try and flatten the vertices of a triangle, this works well on 2 vertices but leaves an artefact on the 3rd, the screenshots should show it and nothing I've tried so far has gotten rid of it; editing curves, making another triangle, etc. I should also mention that this artefact remains after I export it into PNG format for example
  10. I'm a member of a Music Production/DJ group called Ultimate Rejects (UR). This piece was made using vectors and alot of stroke work with customized pressure graphs. The hand to the left is making the letter 'U' symbol in sign language and the hand on the right is making the letter 'R'. The hands were difficult too draw by memory as I'm not a natural artist so i drew it on paper first and imported a snapshot into the project. The image on the cap is our logo. Paying for artwork for our albums and singles became costly so I purchased AD & AP in Oct. 2016 so I def consider myself one of the 'day ones' lol. ~ Joel - Self taught Graphic Designer.
  11. As part of my project I want to make those brown dribbles in the screenshot look more like oil running down the screen, currently it just looks like drops, how can I make it look like more of a singular mass? As shown in the other photo I've attached, I know what I want to do but not how to do it, thanks!
  12. The screenshot speaks for itself really, I know this is a thing in Photoshop but is there any way to snap the bottom line of the Frame Text to the bottom part of some text? I'd need this to space everything out just right. Thanks
  13. Hi everyone, I'm working on a logo and I'm trying to get rid of 2 filled sections of some triangles, the outlines are already done but the fill is still there, the area that I want to clear is the red crossed out part, does anyone know how to do this? The way I was thinking to do is just clear the fill and use shapes to fill it in instead, merge those and then select the colour, but I feel like that'll take longer than other solutions I've attached a screenshot Thanks
  14. Hi guys, so I'm still relatively new to Designer and I've been having a bit of trouble lately, I'm creating a logo and I need to snap some shapes around, I'm trying to get this triangle to snap to the long part of the other one but it won't capture it as a snapping point, could anyone help out? I'll attach a screenshot Thanks
  16. Hi. I am struggling in something that whenever I try to make something, I don't get to use the smartness of Affinity Designer. It doesn't show me the automated height, length and angle thing. Like in the below screenshot, I am trying make something with the pen tool but then affinity designer is not showing the right height I should make so that it matches the previously drawn side on the other half (or I say follow the symmetry). How do I make a symmetrical vectors? Screenshot: P.S.: I am trying to learn things and if you think there is some video which could help me out too (any tutorial)? Please care to share with me. Any help is always appreciated. Thanks.
  17. Hey Guys, long time PS user, 18+ years to be exact. I put off learning Ai for ever and when I finally decided to learn Adobe's business model pretty much put the brakes on that ever happening. To say I am disgusted with Adobe would be an understatement. I have some high hopes for Affinity Designer. I am glad to see aggressive and constant improvements to AD. After spending most of the day getting to know AD I was pleased that I could typically find answers either here or on Youtube. So being that I am here in the Suggestions thread I do have one MAJOR request and one Minor request. 1) A vector library that I can add to, preferably one that will recognize .csh files that I have accumulated over the years. Some from other users and some I've made myself. We already have the basic basic circle, triangle, square etc etc in AD but we need the ability to save new vector shapes for future use that is easily accessible. It would be great for the vector library to have an open source community data base so we can contribute and share with others. When I design a complex vector shape I appreciate the ability to save it and even improve upon it at will the way that I can in PS. 2) The ability to put two different / even multiple vector shapes on one layer. Making a new layer every time you create a vector shape can be hell when you have to comb back through a list trying to discover even a minor flaw. To me those two improvements would put AD in an advanced stage of development. I'd be willing to pay another $50 or even $100 just to have a vector library as an add'on feature. It is that important to me. Thank you and I look forward to growing with this community! CHEERS! GraphXlord
  18. A vector portrait created with Affinity Designer. Take a look at this http://b-bertuleit.de/cate-vector-drawing/ Download the original file (Affinity Designer), if you like it. Cate.afdesign
  20. The robot who was once destroyed and sometime after re-animated by the evil will of technomancer. This guy is like a zombie but made of steel. Used new for me method of inking - vector brushes without any pressure sensitivity at all. You just create the shape you need and make a brush out of it. Having some brushes made in this manner results in nice and natural looking inks. The reason for using them is actually better predictability of strokes and much higher speed. The brush engine just does not spend time calculating size and opacity variability and you get much faster inks. For many inking tasks this is more than enough. Have you been using this method? How you feel about it?
  21. Free Neon Elements you can use them conveniently thanks to the assets panel .afassets file included. You can use it in both personal and commercial projects for yourself, your company or your customer. hope it will be useful for you Download it from here http://www.affinitytemplates.com/neon-kit-resources-for-affinity-designer/
  22. Hi Guys, I was wondering (I've been searching) how to join 2 lines together that have "middle" nodes. Say I've got a straight line with points A,B and C and another with 2 endpoints D and E. How do i go about joining the middle node (b) with the endpoint of the other line to make one unified "T" Piece? When i have tried selecting the correct nodes and "Join Curves" it connects the 2 lines end points and not the middle nose as I wish. Cheers http://puu.sh/tJHUr/11fb4c20ea.png (so connecting the bottom line node to the top lines middle)
  23. A portrait as a handmade vector drawing is always associated with a lot of effort, but it's worth it. The drawings always have their own charm and offer what a photograph can't offer. And of course, the vector drawings can be enlarged without loss of quality http://b-bertuleit.de/vektorzeichnungen/
  24. In the absence of a line offset tool, I am trying to re-draw (by eye) line paths with an offset from the original. I am wondering if there is anyway of either matching/setting the angle of curvature of a path or being able to maintain an equal separation between paths. I am starting to find it frustrating having to modify each handle and/or eyeballing the desired line offset so there is not a variety of thickness. I have tried expand stroke , but its not giving me the editing functions I need in the final product. I quite often do mascot style logos and to finish off , sometimes give them a bit of an outline. Any thoughts?
  25. This girl loves her cute little pet toad so much she even lets it sit on her head! Affinity designer vector image.
