  1. Hi, To remove the background around an object in a photo I can use the pen tool and draw a shape above it then use that shape as a mask. I want to use a selection made with the selection brush, turn it into a shape to save me time. (I find adjusting shape masks much more efficient than playing with selections.) Is this conversion from selection to vector shape possible in Affinity Designer? Thanks
  2. If I move a symbol back and forth between Designer and Photo and manipulate the Symbol in the linked layers of Photo, I get this weird result, where the vector shape shows as unlinked, but it remains linked in practice. 2022-10-24 14-03-41.mp4 Steps to reproduce 1. Open Affinity Designer 2. Create a rectangle 3. Convert the rectangle into a symbol 4. Go to File > Edit in Photo 5. In Photo, duplicate the symbol. Notice the symbol has linked layer properties 6. Move the top symbol to the right 7. Select the rectangle within the symbol and unlink the vector shape 8. Go to File > Edit in Designer 9. In Designer, resize the rectangle and notice how the shapes remain linked. 10. Go to File Edit in Photo Back in Photo, notice how the rectangle is displayed in the linked layers panel as being unlinked in the vector shape. 11. Resize the rectangle 12. Notice that both symbols are updated as if they were still linked by their vector shape.
  3. Hi, trying to understand some affinity Photo functionality, i observe a really strange behavior. Start with a life filter, e.g. procedural text, to generate a simple gray gradient Add a rectangular vector shape as mask Look at the transform panel The live filter now gets option to enter x, y, rotate and sheer If you enter 200 for x, the vector shapes gets shifted. But the x will shows -56 after completion. entering 100 for y will not shift, but -156 will be shown The valus seem to add to 256 Another observation: If you move the vector shape after nestig it, the transform panel will show insane values for the live filter layer. I spotted this in a more complex document, when i tried to pixel-align some vector shapes used for masking with help of transform panel, and struggeled there how the layers were presented. My assumption (which could be wrong) is that the transform panel should not allow to enter values for x,y,r,s at all for live filter layers, and should not be able to e.g. rotate. zero pro text gradient.afphoto 2021-02-19_19-38-10_proc_text_and_vector_as_mask.mkv
  4. Hi guys, Is there any way to automatically create a vector shape based on a selection I have made inside Affinity designer? Thanks, Mario
  5. Hi I'd like to know how to paint a vector shape as shown in the attached image, the hatched area? I know how to switch to pixelpersona to paint within a vector shape (circle, rectangle, triangle...), but failed to figure out how to paint a hollow circle ( a ring zone) ... In the attached image, I used the outer circle as mask to paint, however it will also paint into the inner smaller ring, yes, I can use eraser to carefully erase it off... but is there a way I can paint "freely" directly in this ring area? or is there a way to set up a mask for the eraser to ease the job? Thank you!
  6. Hello, I'm using Affinity Designer. I would like to create a vector brush that is an eclipse shape. I followed the tutorial for creating a vector brush except I used the eclipse vector shape instead of a brush. I saved it as a png and then uploaded it as a new textured intensity brush. Unfortunately, when I draw with it, the edges are blurry and jagged. Are there any tips on how I can make this better?
  7. Hi, My name is Mohammed iliyas. More than a decade i used Flash as my primary tool, were i can draw and animate. Now i have planned to use Affinity designer and Tumult hype. I have attached a gif file which took lesser than five minutes to create in flash. The gif file shows the steps to create the chessboard. But when i started the same thing in Designer it was very difficult to create it took almost 3 hours to complete. I love the Affinity designers intuitive tools and i like to use this as my future design. Kindly view the Gif file and show me the right way to create this chessboard in easy steps. Pls help. :( regards iliyas
  8. Hello, I cropped my vector object (text converted to curves) using the vector crop tool… now I want to further edit the cropped version of the vector object now based on it's cropped shape. How do I "flatten" that crop mask without resorting to rasterise to continue manipulating it's shape? Thanks
