  1. I've just swapped over from Procreate to Affinity due to Procreate not being vector based. I initially started designing a logo in Procreate until realising I needed to swap, but I'm unable to bring my brush with me. I've searched for days for a similar brush and cannot find anything! Any help would be massively helpful otherwise I'll have to start the logo again and re-jig the style I've attached 2 screenshots to show the brush. Thanks!
  2. Remember Macromedia (!) Fireworks? I loved Fireworks! I even keep an old copy alive on my old Mac Pro. It crashes every few minutes, but for me the user experience of working in an application that really makes sense to me, even when I'm away from it for a few months, makes up for all the crashes and for the the annoying homebrew definition by which Fireworks hides vector stuff in a PNG. In the last 10 years I've repeatedly tried to get used to Photoshop and Illustrator. Since I'm not doing design on a day to day basis, I kept on loosing too much time maintaining the software, getting puzzled and figuring out how to do simple stuff. A few weeks ago I started using Affinity Designer. My SO was very enthousiast about Affinity Photo and finally convinced me to take the jump. Dear Affinity developers, I'm having so much fun! I've even revived a few silly hobby projects, just because ... fun! Having a great UX really matters. Of course there's stuff missing from Affinity Designer. My main complaint is not being able to distort and warp vector objects. And Fireworks has this great way of gradually simplifying strokes that hold too many points, I'd love to see that in Affinity Designer as well. But still, I'm happy - happy - happy (I feel a song coming up!) I've been playing around a bit. I've had a lot of help from tutorial video's, the Affinity Designer Workbook and of course this great forum. So I'd like to share a playful vector brush set with you as a small tooken of my appreciation for this great community. The afbrushes file holds the brush definitions, the afdesign file has some more examples and and my notes on how to create a vector brush. Title reference: "That's not a knife. 3. Hey lovely designers. I've released a new video showing my process making the Joker! I hope you will like it! cheers! Jhon
  4. hey there, I'm sharing this work and a complete video that I've made using Affinity Designer on ipad pro I hope you will enjoy the techniques that I use to build my characters, you can download some projects done in my youtube, it's available in my patreon for learning community on there I dedicate time to public exercises and useful contents for affinity users, illustrators, and designers. Thank you!
  5. I want to create a path of rectangles in Designer, but right now when I draw using the brush I created, the rectangles become curved to follow the path. I want the rectangles to follow the curve but remain parallel, 90-degree rectangles. In my attached jpg you can see two paths I created. The top path is by using the new brush I created. The lower path is by my manually lining up rectangles. The bottom path example is the look I am after, but it is way too tedious to build. How can I get the look of the lower path but build it efficiently? I have many paths in different colors I want to create to make a Ticket to Ride board game. Thanks for any help! Karenq
  6. I notice it is possible to have the size of the brush controlled by pressure, and the opacity controlled by velocity with a brush in the Pixel Persona in Affinity Designer. However, I cannot seem to do this with the Vector Brush tool. Am I missing something? In the Vector Brush options, it will allow me to change from pressure to velocity but it changes for both opacity and size.
  7. When you select a path with a vector brush already applied, the Brushes Panel should show which brush that is. Right now it's impossible to know for sure which brush have you applied to a path once you deselect it. If you look at the attached image the applied brush is clearly not the brush shown in the Panel. When you select the path the Panel should automatically select the correct brush (which is a few brushes up in this particular case). I'm requesting this under the desktop section of feedback, but this same request is equally valid for the iPad. Thanks!
  8. Hello! Until AD 1.7, we could do the following to adjust brush size: Alt + LClick + RClick & drag = real-time resizing. Now, it seems to work only in the following order: Alt + RClick + LClick & drag. Could you please revert it back to the first case? I can only set shortcuts to me Wacom Pen if it's the first (and older) way. By the way, it works properly (the first way) in Pixel Persona and in Affinity Photo 1.7+ Below, a video showcasing the problem I made using AD 1.7.0.380. 2019-06-10_11-00-58.mp4 Thanks!
  9. Hello developer, it's been a year since I pointed out a brush problem in the Affinity Designer but unfortunately I haven't found an adequate solution in the current release (1.7.0.380) yet. Will it be further developed in this direction or not and can I expect an implementation of a Vector Brush Tool at all?

  11. Hello All, Im having a difficult time with brush selection. How can I copy pixel brush styles to the vector brush styles? Additionally, when editing between vector brushes and pixel brushes. It is inherently impossible to figure out as the user that vector and pixel brushes carry the same functionality. Since navigating between vector and pixel personas, do carry some functionally with the same tools. It would help if the assistant or some message displays that there is some limitations when trying to make a change to a shape with the wrong brush option. I mean, color, stroke and fill all seem to work across personas and do not require an additional gui to display to change properties. Thanks,
  12. I'm trying to draw this tree (PSD attached) and you can see that the branches and dark grey area are clipped into the orange layer. I used a vector brush stroke to create the branches and after I export them to Photoshop, they're rasterized. Is it because of the masking or is it because it's a stroke? Also, not sure why the dark grey area rasterized as well. Are there other ways I could have done this differently? Sorry if it's not my best description - I'm just confused. Untitled (1).psd
  13. Re-designed my Clients Music Artist's logo for a stronger and yet simple feel. The old logo might still be here (www.soundcloud.com/HolySKITXO) Critiques and Compliments appreciated.
  14. Hi, I am using Affinity Designer on iPad Pro 12.9 inch (2018.10) + Apple Pencil 2, both iOS and the app are up to date, for some reason the vector brush tool won't work with pressure sensitivity. It's always fixed width no matter which brush I selected, and when I tried to adjust the pressure by dragging the pressure handles, it always came back to default settings. Could anyone help me with this issue? Thanks! O.
  15. I’m having trouble adjusting the pressure of my vector lines in Affinity Designer on iOS. It seems that whatever brush I first use to lay the line down needs to be temporarily switched to different vector brush and then switched back to my original brush before it will allow me to adjust the pressure. In my attached clip, I used the basic vector brush, but I’ve tried a handful of brushes from a handful of vendors and the behavior is the same. I have to ink, change the brush, and then change it back. For each line, it’s pretty rough. Can’t seem to find if there’s something under the hood I’m missing, or if this is expected behavior. (Thanks in advance, all.) E45911A8-D131-4BE5-AD98-9268E716A1CC.MOV
  16. Ok so I am new to Affinity Designer and have been working with it for a little over a week. Maybe I am missing something obvious, but is there a way to edit the flow while using the vector brush tool? I'd like to lessen the flow with the strokes I am using. Thanks in advance for you help.

  18. Hello, I'm using Affinity Designer. I would like to create a vector brush that is an eclipse shape. I followed the tutorial for creating a vector brush except I used the eclipse vector shape instead of a brush. I saved it as a png and then uploaded it as a new textured intensity brush. Unfortunately, when I draw with it, the edges are blurry and jagged. Are there any tips on how I can make this better?
  19. Project Brush Set 04 Ammonite Used to create Ammonite Hotel Updated the brush set to version 2...I can draw some more Ammonites now! Changes/improvements as below Version 2.0 1. Removed old versions redundant now.. 2. Made significant changes to the brush dynamics and nozzles. All nozzles are now vector based replacing previous raster versions (as much as possible) 3. There is a significant number of new nozzles for the brushes Which means they are not like original sets.. 4. Made use of the 1.7/1.8.2 brush engine in AD/AP using subBrushes. 5. The old brush set was appearing darker and less intense with 1.7/1.8 update...I have fixed that with this version! 6. Updated the Sample sheets to newer (latest) layout..Sub brushes are displayed in red. 21. I finally worked out how to create coloured image brushes for both Vector & Raster formats in Designer. The raster brush instructions also apply to Photo too. When a member of a Face Book group I belong to, asked how to create a brush from a png image, I set about creating a video. No text or voice-over, just some nice relaxing Royalty Free music and my mouse movements. Recorded on a Windows 10 Pro system but hopefully Mac users will be able to see what actions need to be performed on their O/S. I have also included the two single brushes here with Permission from Nikki. Any comments are welcomed. 23. Hey all, I have created this leather vector brush in Affinity Designer. I hope you find it useful. Grab your free copy from Awire leather vector brush
  24. Hi, I more or less understand how you can create a new bitmap-based "vector brush". But I need my output to be pure vector (no rasterisation) and I'm wondering if something like in the image attached could be created as a custom vector stroke brush? It's simply two lines with crossed lines in the middle. Is there any way to create a brush like this that could be: 1) Applied to a stroke; 2) Pure vector (no bitmap or rasterisation on export). Thanks in advance!
  25. I'm trying to draw a fantasy map for a novel I'm working on, and I'm using vectors to draw the mountain ranges. This works very well for the horizontal parts of the range, but not so well when the range goes vertical (see image). To do this, I've created my own brush which repeats my mountain image along the vector, but I'm not sure how to make sure the mountain image always has the same orientation. Is this possible? ~MasterBel2
