  1. Affinity is a great program; you have done a fantastic job. I believe it is largely because they have listened to users. Please add the ability to handle variable fonts; it is an immediate necessity!
  2. Variable fonts will be the way to go in the future. Having the possibility to adjust your font with high precision is a key feature. And I'm talking for print. There are great typefaces where variable axis play an important role. PLEASE ADD VARIABLE FONT SUPPORT. OUR GOAL IST TO BE BETTER THAN ADOBE.
  3. Though I've owned affinity for a while, I've just recently started using it for a project I'm working on. I'm wondering, perhaps I've missed it, but as a developer, is there a way to store a particular colors in variables? Say I had something like mainTheme = "#FFFFFF" or something. Then I could have certain assets reference that color. If I decide to change the mainTheme color, all assets which reference it will automatically change. I looked underneath the swatches which is where I intuitively feel I would find such an option, but didn't see it. Is there another way to accomplish this? I could write it down on paper, but then if I change it, it'd be absolutely tedious to update all references. Please help?
  4. I've tried creating a "user variable" but it doesn't have the expected behaviour: It does not update globally in all the other slice occurrences. So instead, since all i'm doing is creating a variable for the filename, it would also work to have a builtin variable for it. Thanks!
  5. Hi everyone! Will be support for variable fonts in the near future?
  6. Tell me please, will Affinity support variable fonts in the near future? I am a developer of similar fonts. Thanks!
  7. Hello, We need and extra interface/panel for the variable fonts. All the 'visible' axes need to populate that, so we can fiddle around with these and get in realtime visible output on the pages. How these interfaces must look like? Maybe, for a start, just as Illustrator has now, with sliders? Later, more refined controls. Some axes are just on/off switches (checkboxes). Maybe a font with a two axes designspace should have a square view where the user can drag a location in and so control the two axes at once... (thinking out loud here) Thom
  8. Hello, It seems that Affinity recognises the Instances in a variable font. That is good. Also the contours of these instances are looking okay! The problems is with the advance width of the glyphs. These stay the same though-out all the instances. That is wrong. The advance width can also be variable and need to be addressed. Hope it helps! Thom
  9. Hello, it would be great to have a variable for the color space (RGB, CMYK, etc.) of the document for creating the name of a file and the path where it is saved. That would be useful for example for exporting logos in various color spaces, for print, web, etc...
  10. I'm having some difficulties with the usage of variables in the transformation fields. I want to resize an Object in relation to the document size - how do I do that? By the looks of it the transformation fields effectively do not allow any reference to document size but only to the object size. I can't belive this is true considering variables for document size interaction seem to be available. All variables described in "Variable for transformation related to page" (in German "Variablen für Transformationen mit der Seite") in the help file do not work in the transformation fields. The only variable working is "w" for Object width or "h" for Object hight. What am I doing wrong? Cheers, Timo
  11. Hello, Are you planning on adding functionality for the new OpenType variable font technology in Designer, Photo and Publisher? Best, Bauke
  12. I want to assign a particular color to a variable because this one color is used in several/many elements in my design. I would like to be able to point the same variable to a different color and then have all the related elements of my design change accordingly. This would entail me assigning a stroke/fill to a variable value when I apply it in my design - as opposed to just assigning it (manually) to a particular color. Thanks.
  13. Good evening everyone! I'd like to propose the following feature: "Derived colors" --> "Derived color is a color that dynamically depends on another color (a Global Color in Affinity case). It is derived from the parent color using some of the built-in color operations" • change opacity • change hue • change brightness • change saturation • apply shadow • apply highlight • copy You can watch Derived Color in action in a software like PaintCode here on YouTube I hope you'll agree how great and efficient for productivity this is :) This concept was far before used into the amazing Opacity.app which still yet, provide some unbeaten feature anywhere else. Cheers,
  14. One of my tasks requires quickly regenerating a set of images (sometimes hundreds) based on a template. This is currently accomplished either with Adobe Indesign or Adobe Photoshop with Data Merge. I set up a CSV with columns which are attached to layers within the document. There are three options: 1.) Set the Text content of a Layer 2.) Set the Visibility of a Layer On/Off 3.) Set the contents of a Layer to a File Once you have the layers attached to columns and the CSV imported, you can preview each row, set the display to a specific row and export one/all images based on the data in each row. I could identify several more options that I would love to have (set the fill color of a layer) but the minimum needed would be Visibility and Text. Unfortunately, I cannot abandon the Adobe products until I have another way to accomplish this merging of data. I have not found any alternative software to accomplish this merging, so I am willing to bet there is a market for it. Inkscape has a plugin that nearly does it, but it is not implemented well and does not work with all shapes.
