  1. Hi all! Hope you're doing great! I'll try to be brief. As I pointed out in this twit, the non-Apple devices found in the preset dropdown in the Affinity suite are way too old. I don't even remember what screen, resolution or size these devices had, for this "preset suggestion" to be relevant to me anymore (I mean, just look at the release dates. Nexus 5 and Surface Pro 2: October 2013, Galaxy S5: April 2014, etc.) I believe the suite could have more useful presets by simply updating the models these presets refer to, so that we can have something more recent in mind when we choose what to work with. Thanks a lot for reading!
  3. When having Master A containing a linked image and a Master B containing Master A, when updating the linked image in the document only Master A gets the updated image. Master B keeps the old image. So all masters containing a master with a linked image don't get updated when we reload the changed linked image in the document. See video. only-first-masterpage-updates.mp4
  4. I have an Affinity-file that's using another Affinity-file as a linked image inside an image placeholder. The document is set to 'prefer linked' so I told Affinity to don't embed images, but only link. When I update that linked Affinity file itself though, the parent Affinity file using the linked file, doesn't update. Not even when I reload the file. Not even when I reload the software. There is a message telling me there's a change in a linked image, but when I click on the button to show the resource manager, there's nothing in it to update. I can't find any way to update this linked image inside the parent document without reloading the image again in the placeholder. So it doesn't have the behaviour of a linked image, but acts like an embedded image. But I might miss something here? [edit] in the video below both tabs are different documents/'processes'. So the 'linked-file'-tab is not opened by the 'parent-file', but is a different document that happens to be open in the same interface. So there's no connection between the tabs. no-update-of-linked-file.mp4
  5. Guys is 1.7.1 considered a stable release or better to hold off? Can I run it alongside 1.6 or go back to 1.6? I'm using it for production.

  8. Since the last Update of 1.7. all my panels are constantly changing with every boot of the program. Was fine with initial 1.7, but the first update screwed this up. Tried resetting with CONTROL on boot...but no luck. This is extremely annoying . Trying to work and this keeps changing. Anyone have a fix? Gary
  9. I've updated to the latest Designer upon a pop up request to do so. If I click new document from the opening screen, if I close the opening screen and say file new document, or if I go to document setup in an existing document, the whole system freezes and crashes. No error code appears, it just freezes and I can't click anything. I have to open the task manager and shut it down. Please help!
  10. After doing the new update, I can't seem to open a new document with out the program freezing and crashing. Whether hitting 'new doc' on the opening screen or through File/New Doc it just stops working and I can't click on anything else. No error code or anything either. I have to force it to close. Anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it? Thanks
  11. We are pleased to announce a major update for the MacOS release of Affinity Designer, version 1.7.1 Changes in this build The changes in Affinity Designer for MacOS 1.7.1 over the recent release Affinity Designer 1.7.0 are as follows: Support for multi-page Affinity Publisher documents Fixed sporadic crash with HSL range control Removed limits to shadows highlights effects Avoid over saturated shadows and washed out highlights New curve for highlights filter applied to bounded pixel formats Remap shadows and highlights slider ranges Fix for incorrect Alt(Option) + drag cloning functionality in Move Tool Fix for export dialog crashes and permissions prompt Change default stroke miter limit to be 2.0 Improved brush performance on larger documents Fix for Metal issues on some Intel GPUs and older operating systems Fix for OS X Lion compatibility issues Changes in 1.7.x Since 1.6.1 The changes in Affinity Designer for MacOS 1.7.1 over the last Affinity Designer patch 1.6.1 (1.6.5 PK) are as follows: Tools We've overhauled most of the core tools, adding subtle new features to make you more productive. New Point Transform Tool allows you to scale and rotate objects from any node. The Node Tool now contains a 'Transform Node' option which provides a containing box for the selected nodes and allows for more freeform editing of the nodes. New 'Cube' grid setup mode (take a look in 'View' -> 'Grid and Axis Manager...'). Pen tool now has a 'rubber band' mode and also a mode to allow future curves to be added to the current object's curves (for example, the character 'a' is constructed of two curves in a single 'curve object' and this mode makes that construction simpler). Node tool can now auto-snap nodes if you drag a node from one curve over the top of a node from another (selected) curve and pause, it will offer to snap to the same geometry as the node you're hovering over (ie, modify the on and off-curve nodes to match). This is really useful for trying to reconstruct areas of one curve from another curve. Node tool now allows for lasso selection of nodes by holding the Alt/Option key and dragging a selection lasso. Pencil tool now offers a 'sculpt' mode that allows for extending or manipulating curves in a more natural way. More to come in this area soon. Many tools now allow for 'Alignment widgets' which you can toggle the visibility of in the context toolbar. When enabled you can visually adjust the alignment or even, for example, 'align to centre, snapped to the left edge of this object' by simply click/dragging. Fill tool correctly allows editing of skewed fill handles and newly-created skewed fills draw much nicer now. Ruler origin can be edited by simply dragging the area where the rulers intersect each other - it can even be snapped onto objects in the document. Guides can be edited in most tools by simply dragging a guide in the ruler area. Grid setup is now more interactive: origin can be dragged, axis scale adjusted and angle adjusted on-document, complete with snapping to objects and angles in the document to help you reconstruct useful grids from finished artworks or sketches. By enabling 'Edit in Plane' on the new Isometric Panel, tools can edit objects and appear to make those edits along the currently active plane - extremely useful for artists who enjoy working with any axonometric projections. You can now drag the rotation centre point (when enabled on the context toolbar) while holding Ctrl and it will translate the object - this is actually very useful for positioning and snapping objects relative to others. Shapes tools now have presets so you can create your own favourite shape setups and more easily use them again. There are just far too many subtle tool changes to mention here, but hopefully you'll find the tools much improved General Arrowheads are now available in the Stroke Panel. New Appearance Panel allows for multiple strokes and fills on a single shape. HDR / EDR monitor support New brushes, styles and assets are now shipped with the product. Visible bleed (accessed from the View menu) so you can more easily design into the bleed area - a common feature request. “Alternate futures” for document history have been added. Traditionally, if you roll back the undo history then do something else all your changes after that point are lost. Designer will now display a small branch icon in the history tab when you do this. Pressing that button will cycle between all the different “futures” after that history entry - meaning you will never lose work you have done. New 'Isometric Panel' makes it easy to setup and work with various axonometric projections within the application. HEIF images can now be loaded directly into Designer. If they contain a depth map, this will also be loaded as a second layer. Because depth maps are typically lower resolution than the main image, optional “smart” upsampling will be performed. Designer now supports custom document presets - a popular feature request. A new blend mode - Linear Burn - has been added. Layers Panel now allows you to tag individual layers with a colour and display thumbnails with transparent backgrounds and at different sizes. New “Move inside / outside” commands have been added - useful for quickly clipping/unclipping. New "Merge curves/Separate curves" commands. Grids now have an editable number of angle subdivisions. The Hard Mix blend mode has been improved. Numerous text improvements have been made - including new features such as bullets and numbering. Significant PDF import / export improvements and fixes. Improved Freehand import slightly - failing to read all of a file shouldn't force it to produce a 'failed to load' response, instead we just load the bits that we *could* read New splash screen and Persona icons Brushes Designer 1.7 introduces a new “sub-brush” mechanism, developed in conjunction with Paolo Limoncelli (DAUB® Brushes). This exciting feature allows any raster brush to have a list of other brushes attached which will draw at the same time. Each sub-brush has a fully separate and customisable set of dynamics. You can control when the sub-brushes are drawn and how they blend with the main brush. Symmetry (up to 32-way) is now supported - including on-canvas controls and optional mirroring. Wet edges and accumulation are now available on colour brushes and brushes with HSL variance. Brushes with multiple nozzle textures have always chosen the nozzle at random. In 1.7, the nozzle choice has a dynamic controller and ramp for greater control. All pixel brush tools now support left and right arrow keys for rotation - a common feature request. Adjustments The HSL adjustment layer has been rewritten. It now supports custom hue ranges, a new algorithm, new UI and picker controls. The Levels adjustment layer now supports output levels - a common feature request. The White Balance adjustment layer has been rewritten. The Selective Colour adjustment layer has been rewritten. PSD import / export of adjustments has been improved. The Vibrance adjustment layer has been rewritten. The Recolour adjustment layer has gained a lightness slider. Misc There is currently new free content available to claim in the Welcome Screen This thread is for commenting on this announcement. Please do not post bugs or problems that you find when using this version of the software in this thread, instead make a new thread in the Designer Bugs on MacOS section and questions about usage go in the Desktop Questions forum. 14. We are pleased to announce a major update for the MacOS release of Affinity Photo, version 1.7.1 Changes in this build The changes in Affinity Photo 1.7.1 for macOS over the recent release Affinity Photo 1.7.0 are as follows: General performance improvements. Fixed Nik V1 plugins. Fixed hiding / showing multiple layers in layers tab. Shadows and highlights improvements. Fix for old Sony RAW files. Another attempt to fix sporadic HSL UI crash Fixed brush performance issues on big documents. Fix crashes on Intel GPUs in macOS < 10.14. Fixed crash when adding a mask when editing selection as layer. Fixed noise filter crash when changing layer. Fixed Levels Metal implementation in CMYK. Reduce bloat when resaving 1.6 files where possible. Improve Live filters appearance...Made inpainting fast again. Gamut check works again in soft proof. Fixed selection refinement working only once per document. Fixed posterise adjustment. Fixed legacy selective colour adjustments rendering wrong when they have children. Fixed potential crash in HSL adjustment. Fixed mixer brush crash. Fixed TIFF loading with Edit In extension. Fixed crash when adding a live filter when in “Edit selection as layer” mode. Fixed rogue toolbars on update. Fixed startup crash for some Intel GPU users. Fixed live denoise filters when repositioned in layer stack. Fixed export bugs / crashes / weird questions. Fixed marching ants in Metal view. Fixed shadows & highlights filter. Startup fixes for 10.7, 10.8 (on MAS) Help improvements. Localisation improvements. Changes in 1.7.0 since 1.6.7 (1.6.11PK) The changes in Affinity Photo for MacOS 1.7.0 over the last Affinity Photo patch 1.6.7 (1.6.11 PK) are as follows: EDR Added support for EDR displays to Photo. When editing a 32bit document, enabling EDR will switch macOS into a mode whereby it will increase the backlight intensity and darken screen content - increasing the dynamic range available when rendering content. Performance The core processing engine in Affinity Photo has been rewritten to take advantage of the powerful discrete AMD GPUs in modern Mac hardware. It will now automatically use any compatible discrete GPU, alongside the Intel GPU support present in 1.6. Typically this improves compositing / editing performance by at least 1000%. Performance when using integrated Intel GPUs has also been massively improved. External GPUs (eGPU) are also supported - including hot-plug-and-unplug support. Multiple GPUs are supported - if you have more than 1 GPU (ie. Intel + AMD in MacBook Pro, or Intel + eGPU in other Macs) Photo will use them all, at the same time, to improve performance. There is no limit to the number of GPUs which can be used. Brushes Photo 1.7 introduces a new “sub-brush” mechanism, developed in conjunction with Paolo Limoncelli (DAUB® Brushes). This exciting feature allows any brush to have a list of other brushes attached which will draw at the same time. Each sub-brush has a fully separate and customisable set of dynamics. You can control when the sub-brushes are drawn and how they blend with the main brush. The brush engine in Photo has been rewritten to use the new GPU architecture described above. With GPU support, even huge brushes with 1% spacing will perform well. All brushes / brush tools are accelerated. Symmetry (up to 32-way) is now supported - including on-canvas controls and optional mirroring. We have more symmetry features on the way - so stay tuned during the beta process. Wet edges and accumulation are now available on colour brushes and brushes with HSL variance. Brushes with multiple nozzle textures have always chosen the nozzle at random. In 1.7, the nozzle choice has a dynamic controller and ramp for greater control. All brush tools now support left and right arrow keys for rotation - a common feature request. Allow Ctrl key to be held when typing numbers in a brush tool (will change flow instead of opacity). Fixed ABR brush import (would ignore "random" controllers). Brush Tools now allow you to constrain strokes with the Shift key. Brush Tools now allow you to constrain the X-axis or Y-axis with the Shift key. RAW The RAW processing engine in Photo has been rewritten - producing better results and improved performance. It also takes advantage of the GPU architecture changes described above. RAW files now load much more quickly - especially if you have a compatible GPU. Reimplemented support for XTrans sensors. The denoise algorithm has been rewritten. It produces better results and takes advantage of the new GPU architecture. Hot pixel removal is now automatically performed by the Serif Labs engine. Profiled lens correction are more stable, apply more quickly, and can be toggled in the Develop UI. The histogram in the Develop persona is now presented in the output colour space - as opposed to always being linear. Develop now respects the output profile when previewing. Added support for CR3 RAW when using the Core Image engine. Show which autofocus rectangles were in focus and which were selected by the camera (yellow, green respectively). A large number of new cameras are supported for RAW development (we will provide a list of the new supported cameras as soon as possible!). Automatically fall back to Core Image for cameras which are not supported by Serif Labs. Filters New “Procedural Texture” filter with advanced presets support. New “Voronoi” filter. Denoise, Clarity and Shadows / Highlights filters have been rewritten (using technology from the Develop Persona). More filters are now available as Live Filters - including the new Procedural Texture filter. Live filters have been rewritten to improve performance - especially when multiple filters are used in a document. Improved Polar to Rectangular and Rectangular to Polar filters. Added round dot type to the halftone filter. New “Lens Correction” filter - apply lens correction from the built-in lens database. Bilateral blur accuracy improvements. Layers Layers Panel- added option for transparent background for thumbnails. Layers Panel- added multiple thumbnail size options. Layers Panel- added ability to tag layers with a colour - including PSD round-trip. Allow Panel an empty group from the Layer menu. New “Duplicate Selection” item in Layer menu (old behaviour). Duplicate now duplicate the whole layer ignoring pixel selection. Alt / Option is now used to make a pixel selection from layer luminance. You can now also hold shift to add the result to the current selection. Hide / Show / Show All Layers options in layers menu. Ability to either rasterise or rasterise and trim a layer. Previously recorded macros will trim. Selections Significant improvements to selection refinement. When using selection tools with no pixel selection, default to New / Add as appropriate. Added “Alpha Similarity” to Select Sampled Colour tool. Tools Grouped tool shortcuts now default to needing the shift key held to cycle (option in preferences). The Crop tool has been rewritten - it now supports resolution changes, absolute pixel size and has a much improved preset mechanism. The Sponge Brush tool now gives more correct / pleasant results. Allow brush rotate / size key changes while dragging. Added a “Reveal Canvas” checkbox to the crop tool - defaults to off. Added new “Transform object separately” mode into Move tool. A general tools overhaul has been performed - providing editing of grids, guides, page origin, across multiple tools (not just in the Move tool) Patch tool now supports arrow keys for rotate / scale. All brush tools can now be axis constrained once brush has started - not just the pixel tool. History “Alternate futures” for document history have been added. Traditionally, if you roll back the undo history then do something else all your changes after that point are lost. Photo will now display a small branch icon in the history tab when you do this. Pressing that button will cycle between all the different “futures” after that history entry - meaning you will never lose work you have done. The History page now has an “advanced” mode - which shows thumbnails and time info. I/O HEIF images can now be loaded directly into Photo. If they contain a depth map, this will also be loaded as a second layer. Because depth maps are typically lower resolution than the main image, optional “smart” upsampling will be performed. TIFF export now has user selectable compression method. Added support for 12bit TIFF files. Introduced new metadata mining - completely rewritten to improve performance, flexibility and correctness. Metadata is now dynamically synchronised with your document - so if you resize then export, the values will be correct. Added Focal Length to metadata summary view. Added a button in general preferences to open a folder from which Photo will read LensFun-style XML files - if users wish to add / experiment with their own lens profiles. Support 16bit CMYK TIFF import. General New ability to control how macros are scaled / aligned when playing back. Added an “Assets” panel to Photo. New cube setup mode for grids. Add “Fill with Primary / Secondary” to the Edit menu for fast access. 15. Hi, I have downloaded and updated my Affinity publisher, however, when I open the software it's still advising me that there is an update. I have restarted my machine since the update and the same thing is happening. P.S looking forward to product launch. Thanks in advance. Clyall90
  16. Hi, I purchased Affinity Designer and Photo a while ago. Since, i'm prompted to update Designer on the app store at every update you release. But the Photo update never appears in the update panel of the appstore. And when i visit the app page on the store, the price of the app is displayed instead of the usual "open" button, inviting me to buy the app again.. What should i do? I'm stuck on version 1.5.2 of Photo for a while now... Please help. Thanks for paying attention to this message. Regards. k.

    Turbo stuck in 1.7

Updated 1.7 ok working fine, 3 days on the trot. keep experiencing lag, using iPad Pro 4 gigs of ram. 163D1D5D-CF9F-444E-83E1-0376B452E117.MP4
  19. Not sure what the issue is but ever since the 1.7 update, Designer is SLOWWW, hangs on moving a simple shape on the artboard. Verging on unusable! iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014) 4 GHz Intel Core i7 32 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 AMD Radeon R9 M295X 4 GB
  20. Congrats on 1.7! For the next update it would be great if you could detect custom keyboard shortcut keys and use that instead of reverting to the default.
  21. Hi, I updated affinity photo (1.7), and since then each time I try to create a panorama I noticed some glitches in my pictures (Part of the picture are not aligned correctly...). Am'I the only one to notice this problem? Christophe
  22. Hi... when I go to update I get the message that the update isnt available to my AppleID or the original was refunded or cancelled... I havent changed appleID since it was installed and as far as I understand it was never refunded or cancelled... Any ideas?
  23. I don't know if it's okay to post this here, but we don't seem to have an "off-topic" forum, so here it is. The changes in AP from ver 1.6.5 to 1.7.0 are pretty significant, warranting a long post at the beginning of this thread to explain the changes. We even have a different icon, something that's stayed the same since ver 1. And yet it's not ver 2, it's ver 1.7.0. Version numbers is a topic that's always mystified me; that is, how changes to the version number relate to changes in the software. I've researched this and found absolutely nothing concrete; it seems to be totally arbitrary. So what sort of changes would have had to take place to justify calling the new AP ver 2?
  24. Since the last update, I now have a few problems. 1 - I am working on several files at a time, which were previously neatly returned to the tabs after shutting down and restarting, so I could continue right away. Now, however, NO files are being loaded automatically and I have to search and load them again. Annoying, because sometimes I work with 10-13 files that I now have to look up again to open them. I had no problems before. MIN POINT 2 - When I export a file in a different format with a slightly changed name, often as a jpg, then close it and then want to open it again in that new format, I don't see that file among the files. But I see that file in Finder. I have tried everything but nothing works. How is this possible? This was also no problem for the latest update. MIN POINT ***** But now the solutions please.
  25. I haven't gotten an update email for Photo or Designer. But the apple app store says to do it. But when I try to update either program, I agree to the new conditions, but then get "We have a problem." Can I update a different way?
