  1. This happened to me multiple times and I cannot quite reproduce it, but: Sometimes pressing cmd+a selects all text in the textbox and sometimes it switches the focus to the layers panel and selects all objects instead. I believe it has to do with speed, meaning if you work on a project you double-click on a textbox to enter new text but the UI is not ready yet for textinput and so the "select all" command selects objects... I'm not sure. What I know is text input has always had a lag in affinity... So I think this is a what a programmer would call a "race-condition" – only this time between the computer and the user... -unnecessary little rant follows, please ignore- I like the Affinity Suite and have very high hopes, but there are many unusual slow situations and other non-native things happening. For example I use the system command HIDE (⌘H) very often to switch programs which I usually do by ALT-clicking a tiny gap from the desktop. In a native mac-app this is instant, but in publisher, with 4 to 5 open documents the panels and windows are disappearing one-after-one, so I have the suspicion they are doing some weird cross-platform/non-native stuff with the document windows. Also, dragging a panel from one place to the other sometimes drops docked parts of it... and while dragging, some panels move over or under the other ones...
  2. HI, I'm still getting bad results at corners expanding strokes. I'm running HIGH SIERRA 10.13 Here I attach the visualization and settings at AD software and also the obtained PDF file. Thanks
  3. Recently I had to open an Adobe account for work reasons. The biggest thing I noticed while making the move is how much thought has went into the UI of Affinity products. Simple tasks are a lot easier in Affinity and overall it's a nicer platform to work in. Affinity does lack in features, especially Vector warping, distorting, etc. Overall Affinity continues to impress and I think it wont be long until they catch up. In terms of working experience, Affinity is already ahead.
  4. One little thing that might enhance usability would be to add some indicator with every colour swatch to show what kind of colour it is (CMYK, RGB, Greyscale, Spot). This could be a small symbol like in the Adobe products, or a letter or short word. It should be visible in the list view, there's enough space for something like that. In the compact view I don't see a way to add this info, except for the tooltip. Also, I would love to be able to see the (current) numeric values of swatches more easily. A swatch should show these after their name, maybe in parentheses, or italics: "Logo Red (CMYK 0-80-40-10)" or "Logo Red CMYK 0-80-40-10". If the swatch doesn't have a name, the current values could be shown on their own. Showing the numeric values does of course solve the issue of not knowing if a swatch is RGB or CMYK, so that no other indicator would be needed. A related issue is #77313 Color Numeric Value in Swatches, but if I understand that correctly, it deals with the CMYK/RGB approximations of Library Spot colours.
  5. This is a pain point whenever doing an export, that allows a mental load to be added to the process, of simply having to take a few seconds to think about which is width, and which is height. A simple addition of "W" & "H" next to each box would be a HUGE weight-off-mind and ease of usability change.
  6. I noticed this a couple days ago and thought it was a bug. So raised it in the bugs sub forum initally, but have since removed it. I first came across this in the New Master Page Dialog when you have dark theme on MacOS selected either in app or at an OS level. The visual feedback for the selected state of Single or Facing page toggle is ambiguous with the dark theme, but is reinforced through OS accent colour in the light theme. Dark theme: Relies on pushed button metaphor, yet the control - to me at least - looks/looked like a segmented control, suggesting that Single is highlighted. The context informed my opinion as the Dimensions Tab below is lighter and selected. I assumed that Lighter = selected. This "pushed button" metaphor is fine where there are more than two options using it and where one option has more than two choices. As seen in the preferences pane (below) the control with three options shows clearly which is selected. Not only does the wording of the context help but the selected option is the odd one out. From this I can infer which choice is selected in the control above which only has two options. However, when light mode is enabled (see below) ambiguity is reduced as the selected choice is reinforced through accent colour. TLDR: Could the colour accent used in the light theme be applied to the Dark Theme too please?
  7. Hi, I would like to be able to see intensity waveform, RGB parade, and Vectorscope chart simultaneously in my studio. This way, when I make an adjustment, I can see the impact on all three of them at the same time then having to toggle back and forth between each chart on scope panel.
  8. As per subject - would be good if Preview mode removed all non-output elements from the page / spread. Finding it distracting when trying to work with cross-spine artwork, or bleed to the edge when there's white, or black hairlines that aren't actually part of the artwork, and don't show up in the output, but show in the application. For example, InDesign's Preview Mode switches off every guide and UI element on the spread, so what you see is only the canonical output.
  9. Hi, Is there a way (setting) to disable the spine / centre line in spreads? Also, disabling the hairline around the edge of pages / spreads? Thanks,
  10. I changed the UI elements style to Dark, got the message it needed restart, agreed. The app hung, then crashed. See the crash report. Affinity Designer_2021-02-06-065736.crash
  11. In Stock panel the filler text not scrollable in non-full-screen mode and cut off at the bottom. The second picture is when I swipe down to scroll up.
  12. Hi there I love this app (Designer) so much I hardly use Illustrator anymore. AD is so intuitive and powerful. Thank you for that. My number one feature request is the ability to use Adobe's shortcuts. AD is here very uncommon while other apps - up to MS Word! - use the same basic keyboards, such as SHIFT+ ENTER for a new textline without making a new paragraph (this shortcut works even in CMS-Texteditors such as TinyMCE or Redactor or CKEditor). Could we talk of an "industry standard", here? Yes, I think so, this goes far beyond Adobe.) There is also a confusion about when using SHIFT to proportionally scale something and when not. ALT (Option) has been the standard for scaling from the center ever since. ... So my pledge: Please either change them to the well known standards, not only used by Adobe make keyboard shortcut prefs that can be changed thoughout and saved integrate a preference for that in which one can choose "Adobe" as possible Shortcut set. Thank you very much - this would be insanely great. Alex
  13. Please add a histogram with sliders to the levels adjustment just like in the desktop version.
  14. Is there a modifier key, preference that can be changed, or something else to bring placed files (or files dragged in from the Finder) centered? It's a fairly small thing, but anytime I bring a file into an existing file, it's off-center because I don't click or drag quite the the middle. I can't think of any circumstance where I'd prefer my placed and drag-imported images not to be centered in Photo—my initial clicks and drags aren't going to be precise enough for that to save me time positioning later in the rare cases where things I'm bringing in won't be centered.
  15. So to use dynamic zoom you have to hit spacebar then ctrl. Is there a way to swap this or allow it to do both? I'm so used to hitting ctrl + spacebar. With my mindset being: start from the outside of the keyboard and working my way inward while hitting hotkeys. Thanks!
  16. It has been a while, and I have seen this as a request here and there. Please, consider adding this to the Mac version, for the sake of my sanity as well as for feature parity of the two platforms. With very seldom exceptions, I can't stand floating palettes and was really happy that, in Windows at least, I could snap and stack them horizontally, i.e. in columns that are part of the main window. Now that I am back on a Mac I'd love to finally see this resolved. In the Mac version, there is the one main column, and if I want two columns of palettes I end up with a couple of floating ones, which I can't stand.
  17. I'm going to purchase anyway so you get my support but really, address the lack of UI scaling as a priority please. Even if it means taking two steps back to take a step forward. You can do it!
  18. Hello, Fellow UI designer here, just wanted to suggest a few tweaks to the layers panel, 1. Add an even smaller thumbnail setting and maybe even a no thumbnail setting (Not for me but I think some people might like it). The UI is already scaled quite bigger than I'd like and wastes a lot of space from the actual view window. 2. Add the ability to copy paste things from the layers panel, for example: If I hold down CTRL and drag a layer it should let me make a copy of it. It's different than duplicate because it allows me to put the copy anywhere I want directly. 3. Lock icon in the layer itself, it's annoying having to click the layer and then going up and click the lock icon, I already use the shortcut to lock thing but still, annoying. Maybe make the icon appear alongside the checkmark icon as you hover the cursor on top of the layer? I hope you address this in the upcoming updates! Thanks.
  19. It is hard to explain...Just like offset, distance between side and side is the same.but it seems that there is no offset function in AD😂
  20. It could be that this has been discussed in the past already, I don’t remember, but in the colours panel you can select the sliders view, and then there is a select field for RGB and RGB hex with the only real difference that there is a hex value field below the sliders. And I’m thinking: is it really necessary to have two views? Couldn’t they be combined into one with the RGB numbers being shown next to the sliders and the HEX field below? This also applies to colours in the fill and border panels on shapes. Also, there is so much empty space next to the HEX field that could be used for two buttons to copy the HEX or RGB values quickly (see attached mock-up). That would be better than the current hidden option behind the button at the top right.
  21. Please optimize the ComboBox size. For example, the Context Toolbar of the Paint Brush Tool, where the maximum possible values are entered. As you can see, the ComboBoxes are unnecessarily large, which in turn removes the available space in the Context Toolbar so that it does not fit all the necessary items. P.S. Although in this case, "Protect Alpha" would certainly fit without ComboBox optimization.
  22. The Protect Alpha option is hidden on small screens. It is very counterproductive to have to click the arrow each time in order to reach it (My screen is a Wacom Cintiq 13 HD touch). Sometimes I also forget that it is selected since it is hidden. Please make more space so that it isn't hidden or convert some of the options to icons (eg lock, mirror, symmetry). I ignored this for months but it really disrupts my process. The padding on some of the percentage selectors could be less to make space. Eg Opacity, flow, hardness all have pace to the right of the percentage. Thanks.
  23. I was waiting for the actual 1.9 beta to come out before posting this, but since it doesn't look like it's coming any time soon, I might as well post it in advance. Even if work in the UI has already started, I still think it's relevant to post this. If for nothing else then to make sure you avoid doing the global colours editor UI in the same disastrous way Adobe did with Illustrator for the iPad released today. To avoid the above you must understand one thing, the whole point of global colours is to finely tune the colours of our illustrations, in real time. This means you must see the colours change within the illustration as you tweak the swatch. As such you must do your best to avoid obscuring parts of the canvas, no full screen editors please. Another point with these mockups is to create them reusing as much of the existing UI as possible, so the amount of work needed to create this is reduced. This is a critical feature that has been missing for way too long, let's not delay it any further by requesting unique UI elements just for it. With that out of the way, let's get started. 1. The first step in editing global colours is to actually have some. For that you need to have a way to add them to the colour palette. A simple 'add global colour' entry on the existing flyout menu will do. The swatch will be further tweakable down the line, so this is enough or now. 2. Now that global colour swatches exist, you must be able to apply them. For that you'll need an indicator showing the swatch is applied, a simple blue circle around the swatch will do. This is the same colour as used in many other controls throughout the app. On the next point I'll show these swatches as a grid instead of a list. 3. We must be able to apply global swatches to things beyond simple shapes. Right now we're not able to apply any swatches, even regular ones, to things like layer effects. For global colours to be maximally effective this must change, we need a UI to select and apply swatches to things other than shapes. Here I'm showing how this would look when applying a global colour to a colour overlay layer effect. 4. Now that global colours are applied, we need to edit them. This is where I ran into a possible UI inconsistency issue. What makes sense to me would be to long press a swatch, choose 'Edit' from a popup, and be taken to a panel for that effect like shown in point 5. The thing is, I don't think there's any instance where a popup menu like this takes us to a subpanel? And like I said at the start, if I want to minimize UI changes in order to deliver this as fast as possible... ... so if the above is an issue, then another solution can be used. Instead of long pressing the swatch, we could instead head to the Colours panel and have it behave in a way similar to the desktop version. That is showing a tint slider with a button linking to the colour editor. 5. Time to tweak the actual colour values Independent of the design option chosen above, you'll end up on this panel to edit your global colour. You'll be able to tap the swatch name to change it, and more importantly change the colour values while you keep the canvas in sight at all time. Once you're done you can simple back out into other panels or tap away to close it. Add... that's it. I'm open to take any feedback, and I'm sure the developers would like that too. However, remember that we must reuse as much of the UI as possible, so this critical feature can be delivered as soon as possible. Thanks!
  24. <RESOLVED! - look at next post> I will start from usual - love Photo Designer. Love it and use it on daily basis. It is one of a things that make my work in it so much less fluent: this is when I click on group - exactly what I expect, group is lighten up on layer mennu, just as it should. but I need something deeper. So I clicked more (on screen, because I see my object and I want to move it to another group, or see where it is hiding. Aaaaand... nothing, no idea. Sometimes it gives pale blue hue to parent group, but not always. Even if - it is bit too delicate to see. Should it or should it not open hierarchy and expose an object will be debatable (I wish it was, but think some people can disagree, but stronger feedback will be welcomed. Thanks!
  25. As I found in this thread, very useful feature of both designer and photo is off by design. And when it's off it works partially, just enough to work as broken. I understand there is group of people who wants this off (I imagine huge imported technical documentation or something like this) But as a user more focused on UI /UX /illustration with quite managable hierarchies I propose to turn on this by default. Just a thought.
