  1. Hello everyone, recently my computer was updated to WIndows 11, when trying to use Photo, I realize that the letters and font of the UI are unreadable, I leave a screenshot. I already reinstalled Affinity Photo with no changes.
  2. I recently got a 4K 32” external monitor for my laptop and this obviously caused me to work differently than using my laptop display, namely, as screen size increases, one must sit back further from the display. Doing that, the Affinity UI is barely legible to me. I feel like I’m trying to tap on a grain of sand using a needle. I already have the UI Font preference set to Large but it’s not nearly enough. I don't want to use Display Scaling resolution in system prefs as that negatively impacts performance and I want to use the maximum number of available pixels. I know this is not a trivial thing to address, but I’m hoping / praying the AMAZING devs fundamentally address the UI in version 2 of the Affinity Suite in terms of functionality and customization, and this would include being able to resize the entire UI, including font, it's size and letter-spacing (critical for legibility), as well as icons, Studio panels' buttons and icons. Please consider engineering a responsive UI just like modern websites which can resize any and all elements based on the device used for viewing via CSS. That way users can create profiles for desktop and laptop UI preferences. Larger displays can use an enlarged UI and laptop displays can use a more compact version. Thanks for your consideration and all you do. Happy new year and God bless and heal the world!
  3. In the layers panel, when you disable (not remove) some effects on a certain object it might be worth keeping the "fx" icon in the panel but maybe with a red "X" through it so you know there are some effects applied to it but are just disabled. That way with a click on that "fx" with a red "X" you can toggle the effects on and off right from the layers panel. Currently when I disable the effects, the icon disappears and I don't know which objects I have tried some effects on... This way, at a glance you are reminded which elements have effects applied but are turned off.
  4. Hey mates, i have a problem with the Affinity suite (Designer, Photo, Publisher). There are graphical issues (as seen in the video) and i tried a lot to fix it. unfortunately without success... Also some UI elements disappear when hovering over them (e.g. the "File-Edit"-Header menu). I have not yet found such a problem here in the forum. I have these errors since version 1.9. Installed is the latest version 1.10 (same problem). PC components: - AMD Ryzen 5 3600 - Gigabyte RTX2060 Super 8GB with latest nvidia Studio driver. - 64 GB DDR 4 RAM Windows is also up to date with 21H1 (Build 19043.1165). This kind of errors I have unfortunately only in the Affinity suite with which I work very much. A reinstallation has unfortunately brought nothing. Does anyone have any idea how these errors can come about? I'm running out of ideas.... graphical_issues.mov
  5. Hi, I’ve got a strange graphical issue on mouse hovering (more precisely happening when the mouse goes out of the button) and I can't figure it out! OS : Windows 11 PC is a Dell G5 5000 (Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10700F CPU @ 2.90GHz 2.90 GHz // Nvidia RTX 3070) I've got a similar issue with one other software (Wally from ZSA, a keyboard flashing tool for QMK), which seems wierd I've got the same issu in Affinity Publisher I'd be glad if you'd had any idea 🙂 2021-12-27 13-48-46.mp4
  6. Just discovered this little issue with Color Picker UI being showed with approx. 1s delay after click. Be it called from Context Toolbar or Character Panel or somewhere in Layer Effects – Color Picker always shows up with that delay now. Seems to be introduced in 1.10.4 (Designer, Photo and Publisher are affected) as I never noticed this before. It was always just as instant as any other UI controls. The only barely noticeable and subtle delay that I ever experienced, was switching between Personas in Affinity Publisher. But I can completely understand this as the whole UI needs to be rearranged. But Color Picker alone...
  7. Problem Currently, changing the stroke weight is a two step process, where you first have to click to activate the dropdown to actually change the settings. There is plenty of space in the UI to access the stroke paramter directly, see below: Stroke settings.mp4 Proposal Therefore, I propose to make the parts of the UI that display the stroke size (highlighted in red) a value box. That way, it takes one click to change the settings. When doing so, the dropdown should still be displayed to get access to the additional settings. I could even see the stroke preview box becoming a slider (just like you can click drag on top of text boxes for feather and opacity in the pixel persona), because it wouldn't hamper its ability to serve as preview pane: Stroke settings slider.mp4 The stroke weight settings need to be accessed more than the other stroke settings and it is much quicker to input the size directly and avoids mousing over to the other input box. I also find it annoying to see the value that I want to change being displayed, with no immediate access to it.
  8. If this is intended or looks like a feature request, feel free to move or hide the post. When I am in the Develop Persona and select a lens profile the window stays open, even after I selected a profile, which means another click. I would expect that the window closes after my selection. And is it correct, that it looks that way (screenshot), when I clicked Favourites or Detected before and there are no Favourites / Detected? When I hit the arrow on the pulldown only this tiny window appears. lensselection.mp4
  9. Can Affinity Designer be used for Website Creation UX/UX like Adobe XD? "Adobe XD is a vector-based user experience design tool for web apps and mobile apps, developed and published by Adobe Inc" I am using Wix Editor X and I am looking for quick preparation of assets to import to Wix. Similar to this: Thanks!
  10. Please, Please add a progress bar when opening a document/saving. I don't understand the logic behind having the words on the top right corner instead of having a modal window in the middle of screen with a progress bar showing the progress of the task. Your UI/UX logic baffles me...
  11. Hello Affinity, I would like to give you my money NOW. I really don't want to pay Sketch or Figma or inVision or Adobe XD or Framer X or Protopie or Webflow or UX Pin. I would love to buy a software from Affinity that enables the prototyping feature. Maybe a merge between Personas with added plugin to buy. OR maybe call the software Affinity Prototype or Affinity Interactive or Affinity Hybrid. I have been creating lots of Websites and User Interfaces, but I can't quickly prototype it to get my idea across. I have been working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of 50 designers/developers/business analysts. And when it's time for me to pitch I have to manually go into my Visual Studio Code Editor and create it from scratch using CSS and JavaScript. Still waiting for release date, Thank you
  12. Let me start by saying that I absolutely love this wonderful feature in Affinity apps: to be able to filter typefaces according to how I organize them in Font Book by collections. However, there's a little bug. Here's what I discovered. In Character panel, when "All Fonts" option is active (by default), every typeface in the list shows up with correct number of fonts in the family. Once any other collection from Font Book, available in that list, is selected, every typeface now shows with two times more fonts. Every weight is being duplicated in the list. So I have two Regular, two Italic, two Bold and etc. I believe there's something with (re)sorting/(re)appending items to lists/arrays and it's just a very small cosmetic issue. But anyway, it would be great to see this fixed, as the feature itself, it is really great and very helpful. Bug persists across all three apps. Versions 1.10.1 and 1.10.4 on macOS Catalina, Big Sur and Monterey.
  13. On a dual-monitor setup in separated mode, it is still very confusing that so often you wonder, where the heck did the newly opened document window spawn, when it just hides on the secondary display - but (rightly so) underneath the panels. For the document at least the z-order is correct, but every modal dialog box should be drawn on top of the rest of the UI and of course on the primary monitor. This should be common sense, as dual monitor setups exist since the early nineties (...of the last century). I respectfully ask, does nobody at Affinity use dual monitors or the separated mode for his panels? I mean we got saveable studio setups which indicates that they would, so...
  14. It's mildly annoying to be unable to control the stroke pressure exactly in Affinity Designer; wanting to somewhat align how thick the stroke is on two objects along a certain point is pretty much impossible. However, I've realized that there's a preexisting design paradigm for controlling properties of objects that exist within shapes but which have their own node points: that of the controls used for gradients by the Fill tool. As such, I'd like to suggest that, either via the stroke options in the context toolbar or as a tool in the regular toolbar, there should be a way to control the stroke pressure of a shape with a node-based system, operating as follows: With this tool active, each selected curve or other shape has a line surrounding it, representing the stroke's path. This line has nodes along it, each setting what the stroke pressure should be at that point along the line; this is shown as the width of the node's square shape perpendicular to the line, and can be adjusted either by placing one's mouse just to the side of the node and "pulling" on the symbol that pops up or by clicking on the node and manually typing in a value for the stroke pressure. By default, curves have just a start and an end node, which for closed curves is represented as a "fused" node, where half the node is the start-size and half the node is the end size; an arrow symbol might also be useful for matching this to the existing stroke pressure control system. As for how this works with shapes that have an inner portion cut out or distinct shapes that have been combined via the add operation, I feel that if a shape contains multiple distinct stroke portions, those should be controllable separately (admittedly, this is functionality Affinity doesn't yet offer even via the already-extent stroke pressure control method), and thus should have their own line with nodes.
  15. iPads do not have any UI that is used to surface features of the tools you’re using, unlike the bottom bar that surfaces commands on desktop. AD is powerful but many users could miss features without better surfacing by the UI. For example, I know I can do shear transforms on objects with my iPad but it is incredibly difficult to figure out how. In contrast, shear transforms are very easy to figure out on desktop largely because there are tooltips which tell you how. Additionally, holding the ? does nothing to help clarify what the small buttons on the bottom toolbars do. A different but related topic, concerning the lack of tool descriptions on iPad: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/62451-ipad-description-of-all-tools/&do=findComment&comment=602824
  16. There are instances when you want to have better control over the tools that you have at your disposal. e.g. Colour selection, sliders, stroke weight, typography, history, layer properties. I suggest a button to extend the panel into a larger and/or wider interface for more precise control. Just for consistency's sake, both images are of the HSL Slider UI in the colour selection tool – but this can be applied to more UIs like stroke weight. Ideally, hitting some button would expand the panel from: Into something like:
  17. After installing version 1.9.2 of Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer, I began experiencing UI display issues when interacting with UI controls. Attached are two images showing some of the issues encountered with Affinity Designer 1.9.2 on Windows 10. The display issues only occurs when interacting with UI elements containing text labels, such as menus, select lists, etc. The issues first presents when the UI element gains focus. Once focus moves to another UI element, sometimes the display is restored, other times it remains in a corrupt state (see second Document Setup Dialog image). The issue only occurs with Affinity Photo and Designer. I have not tried Affinity Publisher. The issue has not occurred in other Windows applications such as MS Excel, MS Word, JetBrains PhpStorm, Windows 10, or Adobe Acrobat. My OS is 64-bit Windows 10 Professional version 20H2 (OS build: 19042.1165). The issue does not occur with Affinity Designer 1.9.3 or Affinity Photo 1.9.3 on Mac OSX. I uninstalled version 1.9.2 and reinstalled the prior Windows versions and the problem now presents with the older versions as well. I thought it may be a Windows UI font is missing or corrupt, but I have not been able to identify which font(s) they may be. If I knew which fonts were used for the Affinity applications, I could check/test those fonts and reinstall them if missing/corrupt. Any other recommendations on resolving the issue would be appreciated!
  18. I use quite an exotic language on my devices - Polish - which belongs to the quite large group of languages unsupported by Affinity. That wouldn’t actually be a problem for me if not the auto-correction feature - which is not synchronized with the system-wide auto-correction, because my system language is Polish and when using text tools Affinity always mark all my Polish words as wrong . And again that wouldn’t be a problem (until I do some orthographic mistake) because auto-correction can be easily switched off in text tool settings (Check spelling while typing) but the problem is: if I turn it off in one document, it reverts back on when I close the document and enter it, or any other again. So the result is: always when I enter a document with text I’m welcomed by unfriendly red squiggly (unless I design something English) I tried using both “English” and “Default” setting in language option in Designer’s settings. 19. Hi, Photo tries to combine two document windows into a single tabbed window, but fails to clean up the blue overlay afterwards. You have to quit the app to remove the blue box. It even stays on top of other apps! Also, the implementation is a bit annoying as this always happens by accident, I never really meant to combine windows. I think there should be a little bit more of a "threshold" before it attempts the combining so you can move the windows freely around. Somewhat related: there is no optical distinction between an "active" window and the other ones which don't have the focus. (the traffic lights disappear as soon as you click on a studio panel... 20. I have tried everything from uninstalling/reinstalling to reinstalling drivers for my RTX 2070. please help. Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-9700K CPU @ 3.60GHz 3.60 GHz Installed RAM 32.0 GB System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor Edition Windows 10 Pro Version 21H1 OS build 19043.1110 NVIDIA RTX 2070 8GB Affinity Photo 1.9.2.1035
  21. Please get some of your developers/designers/testers 5k iMacs to test with. I'm sure the UI works well with a laptop/notebook sized screen but as far as I'm concerned it's unuseable on my iMac. I am 54 years of age and wear glasses but I work with loads of other apps on my iMac with no problem. I'm not asking you to change your UI - just to add the option to scale it up. I know you have some preferences to scale things up but none of them get anywhere near making the UI useable for me. I love your apps, I love your company, I just can't work with the miniscule icons and text. :)
  22. Dragging symbols from the symbols pallete onto the canvas does not work. When a symbol is created, it appears in the palette but cannot be dragged from the palette to the drawing. Just nothing happens and the symbol is not placed on the canvas. AD 1.8.3.641, Windows 10
  23. I know this is old, but can someone please get to this already (or especially, because it's an old issue) One feature of the separated mode is: You should have the freedom where you put your panels or context-bar, but: dialog boxes are drawn underneath these and therefore you always have to make sure you dont have them on the potential spot where the dialog would appear... The "save as" dialog is a "sheet" which means it is fixed in its position, leaving a strange gap beneath where it should dock as a sheet. -> please make a floating dialog out of it, like the open box. The "place image" dialog is also a sheet... The "open" dialog is a free floating window, which you can drag out of the way after the fact, at least... The "export" dialog is the only one truly in front of the UI (just happened in a recent update) Please make them all appear OVER the rest of the UI (which should be standard practice...after all) Although I somehow understand the intend: the save dialog is "attached" to the document window to reduce confusion when several docs are open where it belongs. whereas the open dialog is "free" and does not belong to any doc, yet. Please, correct this! Also: why do new documents sometimes appear on the wrong (secondary) display, and therefore are buried underneath all my panels? I therefore place all my panels with a "gap" to click through
  24. I'm not sure by which parameters the scale is calculated in the pages panel, but In my case, the difference between small, medium and big is not very balanced. I'm happy to have a "very" small icon view plus labels, but for most projects (4 to 16 pages) I could use a little bit more detail. And the "middle" size is way to big and not very different from the "big" one... I would need a size between small and middle, but really more at the side of small. just two times bigger and keep the labels.
  25. Problem: I find it difficult to quickly see the hierarchy of nested/grouped objects, especially if I assigned a colour label to a layer. Solution: I would suggest highlighting the belonging objects by darkening (light UI) or lightening (dark mode) the background colour in the panel. This would bee seen whenever you open a group. Maybe also let the colour of the label shine through: (see Mockup) Also, I think at this state the colour labels are not really well thought out if combined with the rest of the UI (especially in light mode) blue system tick boxes are barely visible on blue background... yellow and orange are rather brown and have little colouring effect, only darkens
