  1. Whenever I have missing fonts in a file, Designer 2 can identify the family name but it cannot identify the style when the file is opened. I use Suitcase Fusion 20.0.7 as a font manager. When I find the family name it lists all the styles in the family (regular, bold, etc) In Suitcase Fusion I can click on the style to activate the font. If I happen to click on the correct style, Designer 2 will update the font immediately. If I don't click on the correct style nothing happens in Designer 2. But if I continue to activate different styles I will eventually hit the right one and it will update in Designer 2. Because of the time involved when fonts go missing I have created a font list for every project so that I don't have to hunt and peck for the correct style. Question: If Designer 2 can identify the correct font style when it is activated in Suitcase Fusion, why can't it identify the font style when the project file is first opened up? Designer 1 worked the same way.
  2. I am looking to copy the formatting of typesetting from one paragraph to another. It is easy in InDesign using the eyedropper tool, not so easy in Quark. Does anyone have a suggestion please how to do this in Affinity Publisher? I can not find it in the help dropdown. Thank you.
  3. I am trying to update a 100 page publisher file and have updated the current body style to change the font size. This works fine for new text that I apply the style to, but hasn't updated existing text based on the body style which is still in the original size. Am I missing something obvious? Is there a preference somewhere to update all items with this style to the new style definition? Cheers Gareth
  4. One thing that always bothered me about the adobe suite was the lack of options for organizing typography so I had to look through lots of fonts to find the one I was looking for if I didn't remember the name of it off the to of my head. It would be awesome if fonts could be organized into folders of my choice so that I could put decorative fonts in one folder, favorite fonts in another, sans serif, serif etc... Having an organized font system would improve my workflow immensely as a graphic designer. As it is now with illustrator picking fonts is a nightmare. (All this would be in the font drop down.)
  5. When typing text in a Photoshop document, there is a popup available that displays the following anti-aliasing options: None Sharp Crisp Strong Smooth The addition of these would make Affinity Photo's type handling even more powerful. Thanks.
  6. I just wanted to let everyone know that Monotype, the creators of FontExplorer X, told me via a tweet that they definitely have Affinity products on their radar for integration. This is really good news, however as with all software development they have not been able to provide a timeline. I recommend that everyone who wants font activation and enjoy using FontExplorer X as much as I have over the past 10 years, should contact them and let them know there is a huge community wanting auto font activation. It's such a pain to do it manually. See below. @nathan_ford @monotype This is definitely on our radar, and we agree that Affinity apps are impressive. Thank you for your input, Chris! 2/27/20
  7. First time I designed in Affinity Designer in sted of using Illustrator. Really loved it! Also I used "The Shizzle" pack from Bob Byrne – very cool stuff hi makes!
  8. Hello :) Not quite sure how to explain my problem, but here goes: I am working on a logo design and I used some curves and some type to make it. I would like to make it different colors, so I can present it to my client. The problem is, that I have to select all the curves and change the outline color for them, and then select the type (which I already converted to curves) and change the fill-colour. Is there any way that I can make the logo into a cohesive vector-file, so that I can select the whole thing and change the colour? This would also be helpful for exporting it, so the client doesn't have to deal with this issue, but can just change the color of it as needed? Thanks in advance! I'd really appreciate the help!
  9. Hey guys! Today I played around with the displace live filter. It’s a very nice and powerful tool to simulate folds of cloths, but also cracks in walls (like shown in one of the official tutorial videos by Affinity), grainy paper textures and so on … This is my first »tutorial« … ever. If you may call it one. So forgive me for eventual mistakes. Though It’s pretty much self-explanatory and not that hard to follow, I think. ;) Like I captioned the video: basically you want to create a separate image with a greyscale profile (at least that’s how I do it), reduced noise and texture plus a good balance between high, low and mid values. Grey fabrics work best if you want to change the colour afterwards. Maybe this helps, have fun playing around with different backgrounds! ;) Cheers Dennis
  10. I'm sure there's a perfectly simple answer to this question, but I'm new to publisher and I don't have a book to refer to. After assembling my document, I decided to put in a semi-transparent image beneath the composition. When I placed the image on the lowest layer, I noticed that all my text was sitting in white, horizontal boxes. Now my document looks like a ransom note. I've looked in every menu and every tool, and I can't remove the white background behind my text. Any thoughts? Image attached. Thanks in advance. P.S. Whats the difference in function between the Place Image tool and the Picture Frame Rectangle tool?
  11. What are the type of work each tool is suitable for? For example I was designing UI and I have been using artistic tool and I saw there was some spacing around the text. For example when I choose 24 pt text using Artistic tool there is some space while for frame tool it's exactly 24 pt. I hope I making sense. I wanted to know in what type of design do you use each one of them?
  12. Hello, I have had type lag and slightly weird laggy graphics tablet issues with a pdf about 40meg in size - nothing strange with a brand new document. Tracking back and have tested this for 10 mins solid this morning, I have a SOLUTION that works for me. I stopped having the HYPERLINKS panel open. Closed it and everything I type appears immediately. I repeated opening and closing this panel and each time I closed it, typing was spot on and no laggy dragging with my Wacom Graphics tablet.(small Intuos Blue Tooth) The panel has a mix of well over 60 links from URLS to Anchors - each page of the pdf has a link back to contents page - about 50 pages at present. I have a 2012 upgraded iMac (16 meg RAM), running High Sierra as latest incarnations wont run my favourite software and the toys there are not really needed by me. The solution seems constant with repeatable results. - I hope this helps someone out there. techie bit: with Hyperlinks panel showing, very laggy with cpu = 100%, with solution - cpu drops to around 50% - and I have stopped swearing! Result.
  13. Hello affinity designer team. I would like to propose some additional type of tools to include in your roadmap priorities. These are the basic precision tools, like what you see in CAD software environments like fusion 360. I cannot emphasize enough the gravity and necessity that this would make affinity designer take a bigger leap towards gaining more users. One of the tools I am referring to are the arc tangent tool similar to fusion 360 (and other cad softwares), typing or input functionality for Line/edge length and angle, and lastly making the rotation angle information visible. There are a lot of things that a vector software can take advantage of some techniques and features that cad softwares use. Not necessarily to dive in all the cad tools, instead just the basic/simple features that we think are very beneficial for vector art. There are situations where an artist needs to have more control on the curves/lines angle Ex: Flourish or ornament designs. Currently, I believe the only angles and curves that an artist can make in affinity designer are just through eye estimation and grid snapping which In my opinion is also great when doing organic stuffs. When you want to apply some simple form of precision and control on creating shapes and curves, that would probably need some form of tools that gives you proper control while at the same time promotes consistency and uniformity. This would also definitely make the workflow much faster and creates an environment for artists to experiment and create innovations with the help of these tools and also with the existing feautres it already has. I hope affinity designer would soon add some kind of features. Thanks. https://autodesk.i.lithium.com/t5/image/serverpage/image-id/192801iEF9AA96E1495B49E/image-size/original?v=mpbl-1&px=-1
  14. When I started using Affinity products first, I thought it's not possible to import PSD file and edit the texts. However, I searched on Google and came to know that it's quite possible by turning on "Import PSD text as text rather than bitmap" option on the Preferences. It'd be great if we see this option turned on by default on the upcoming updates What do you think friends?
  15. Hi there! I've just purchased Affinity Designer today. But seems like Show Special Characters is missing. Or maybe I'm not able to find it. Could you please help me finding this option? Many thanks! Have a nice weekend! Best regards Tamzid
  16. Hi, there is some bounding box mischief when I sellect artistic text with some letters colored without the fill, just with stroke. Try to sellect the text with some other objects.
  17. Select all objects on a page - including text. Group. Drag to scale. Everything scales except text. Is this a bug or a setting option?
  18. I'd love to have an "all lowercase" setting in addition to "All Caps" and "Small Caps". It is not uncommon for designs to use only lowercase text, so it would be a handy feature. I have had to do this manually in InDesign so often I lost count years ago, only to occasionally then manually restore all the uppercase letters when someone changed their mind.
  19. Hi, I'm new to affinity designer although I have been using affinity photo for a while. I'm needing to convert some type to outlines. Bit confused- is converting to 'curves' the same as converting to outlines and how do I do it? Thanks!
  20. I am trying to "left justify" some copy and it only goes to "justified left/ragged right", no matter what I try. I don't understand why it won't justify on both sides. The other options work, center justified, full justified, but the left justified option only goes to a regular left/ragged right. Is there a special way to create a text box? I just typed out the text and it seems to have created it's own text box. thanks.
  21. Hi, It wold be lovely to have google fonts browser integrated directly into Affinity Designer for iPad. So you can browse through type catalog and have search criteria like serifs, sans-serif, condensed, display etc... Also Adobe Type would be nice but i konow that is far fetched :) Cheers! Igor
  22. Hello, New to Designer but not vector programs. Looking to create a vertical arc with type. I've done it within Corel and illustrator but not in Designer. What am I missing? Thank you in advance. Lars
  23. I see lots of typography-based feature requests for Affinity Designer. This is not surprising since a lot of us are designers using very mature Adobe software and text wrap, linked text boxes, bullets, columns etc are all essential features for layout. However, we have Photo for photo editing, Designer for illustration and [hopefully soon] Publisher for layout. I think a lot of these "essential" typo features are being requested because Publisher has not yet been released. Designer should not get these advanced type features because they are aimed at layout, not illustration. Typo features that should be in Designer, should be limited to artistic effects like envelope distortions for warping and advanced text on path. My rule of thumb would be "if I can use the feature to design a logo, then it should be in Designer, if it's needed for a brochure, then it should be in Publisher". If we look at the Adobe line-up... sure Illustrator has got a truckload of text features that allow you to do typographic layouts, but I think that's part of Adobe's failings. I have designers who work for me who make me tear my hair out when they insist on using Illustrator for a 20 page brochure – it's possible but it's not the right tool for the job. Then they go and design a logo in PhotoShop – again, possible, but not the tool for the job. (Illustrator REALLY lost the plot when they added multiple pages/artboards) I think this comes from the fact that for many years, Adobe has been adding features from other applications and calling them "upgrades". Instead of innovation and reworking old tools, we just get shared feature sets. This is exactly what I consider to be "application bloat". I hope the developers at Affinity don't give in to all the requests to add missing features to Designer, when these missing features are actually a request for a missing application. Please Affinity, keep your apps focussed, efficient, streamlined and well-considered. Please don't turn all of them into a Jack-of-all-trades. Your pricing is low enough to force me by Publisher if I need typographic features. I'm concerned that when Publisher comes out, customers will pick and choose which, single app they want based on a collection of broad features that satisfy 70% of their needs, and then complain that it's missing features. Rather, we should buy the suite and get all the features we need, than try to get one app upgraded to the point where we don't need the others. I guess my post could also read "Please speed up delivery of Publisher", or at least give us a few more teasers – even just a full feature list of version 1.0 so we can stop asking for what is already on its way. Thanks guys for great software. I'm very optimistic for the future – a future without the need to have Adobe software on my computer. (and great typographic tools in Publisher is the last stepping stone to that future) :)
  24. I see in the roadmap for Designer that a Mesh Warp tool is on the way and know there is such a tool in Photo already, but the feature in both Illustrator and Photoshop, that I use the most, that is missing in the Affinity apps is the ability to apply different shape transformations: wave, arch, circular arch, arch top, arch bottom, etc. to live typefaces and to edit the amount and shape of these transformations at any time. In Photoshop, for instance, I can create a type object, apply various effects to it, then arch it, but later come back and edit kerning, the actual text and even the typeface. This feature is also available in Illustrator. This ability is the what I need most to fully replace Photoshop and Illustrator for my art creation purposes, which is my goal. I'd like Affinity Designer and Photo to be my full permanent replacements for Adobe apps. They are super close and I am using them for most things already, but the Live Type warping tool would really seal the deal. Thanks.
  25. I am trying to warp or manually curve a type design. I am baffled that a vector design program doesn't have this feature...it's a critical tool for any vector design. Type on path is NOT what I want because that tool does not address the bending perspective that warp creates. (see homemade type solution) any suggestions or advice?
