  1. Not sur if this is a bug or a normal behavior. Software : Affinity Designer 2 Beta 2.3.0 (2165) My document hasn't the Transparent Background box checked on its settings window (see attached image). But when I export it in .png format using the export persona the background IS transparent. If I export it in .png using the File -> Export menu, the background IS NOT transparent (but white) as I would expect. If I export if in .pdf format using the File -> Export menu, the background IS transparent. So I'm a little confuse about it. This is a behavior I have on every files and for many time. It is anoying because I always have to put a white rectangle on my documents. Maybe I'm just misundertanding something ?
  2. Vector images that were exporting fine with v2.04 are giving a problem with v2.1. The transparency option for background is checked in the Document Setup, and the image correctly shows the transparent background in Designer. While exporting, the preview and the resulting exported file have a white background. It is transparent for other export options. See screenshots... Since the /.png and .jpeg are frequent used, common formats and required for our websites, is there a way to get this emergency patched, assuming it is a minor fix? thanks in advance.
  3. So basically, I asked in the Adobe forums about a printer's requests for my transparent kiss-cut sticker sheets, as I thought I'd get more logo designers and such passing by. The printers designer asked for a vector image so that the printer can print white ink first and then the design on top of that. So the way I (think) I understand it, is that I have to create a new vector layer that paths perfectly around the shape/image, fill it 100% opaque white, and then sit it below the main layer and rename it "print first" or something along those lines? Then add the white colour to another document swatch? I am not sure what the guy in the screenshot means when he mentions "overprint in the attributes panel". Is that basically what I have already done in affinity by creating a "CutContour" swatch and adding the cut line colour (magenta)? Also regarding the text, I have used a glitter texture to fill the text, so I assume I need to do the same thing for that and would it be best to keep it on the same white layer as the image, or create a 2nd white layer just for the text? The printer is Chinese, so it is difficult to grasp exactly what she is saying. So if anyone has experience with this sort of thing, I'd really appreciate guidance! Thanks!
  4. Hi everyone, Just bought Affinity and love it. Sorry to ask what might be a dumb question but I searched and couldn't find a clear answer on any of the other forum threads. Is there currently an option to trim away transparent areas in Affinity? In Photoshop, for example there is an option under the Image menu for Trim... > Transparent Pixels. Is there anything similar in Affinity? Thanks for any help, and well done to Serif for an outstanding product. :)
  5. Hello! I am trying to export a file in Affinity Designer for the iPad version 2 with a transparent background. Can you share the instructions to accomplish this task. Thank you!
  6. If I make a selection and then use refine, the transparent preview simply restores the original background around an image. The overlay, black matte, white matte, and black and white act as the should, but when I select Transparent, I am presented with the original image including the original background. Is it possible that I have inadvertently changed a setting? Thanks.
  7. Elisse con foro.psdElisse con foro.psdHello, in the attached file I designed two elissi on a transparent background. The smallest is positioned inside the largest. How do you proceed to color the interior of the large Elisse, however leaving the interior of the small Elisse empty? Thank you Elisse con foro.afpub
  8. I just purchased the program today after using the free trial. I would like to make my image's background transparent. It's not an image background per se because it does not have layers. I would just like to be able to make the selection of the white background and turn it transparent so I can use the logo on any image or website with any kind of background color. Thank you in advance!
  9. Hi, When im printing a document I made, it prints these weird boxes around curves with dropshadows. This also happens to ordinary .EPS and .PNG logos. The box is not visible without a background color printed on ordinary white paper. I've attached a picture taken with my phone of a test document I printed. I use a mac, and the printer is a Xerox WorkCentre 7830 v1 Multifunction System PS. The problem don't appear when I export to PDF and print thru adobe acrobat. But when I do this, the colors are super ugly and pale. Cant understand why the built in printing option produces a different color profile...
  10. When I export a document as a PDF, the PNG with transparent background has a slight different color than the rest of the total background when printing. When I look at the PDF on my desktop it all looks fine (see attached image 1) but as soon as I print it, you can see that the transparent part of the PNG has an other color than the layer below (see attached image 2). Does anyone know how I can fix this issue?
  11. I want to remove the white from this image, I've adjusted the Levels so the whites are completely white & blacks are completely black. I've gone to the selection tab & tried the 'Select sample colour' but i can't find a way to make it work. I've spent the last 3 hours looking at youtube tutorials, FAQ's & forums yet i have no idea what i'm doing right or wrong, please help.
  12. I did ask you before and they ignore me. Look at picture. Adobe Photoshop CC there have change color I fixed dark mode on transparent background. How about Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo. I have been hurt my eyes while new document appear too bright too white.
  13. Hello, I have a logo created in AI which I can open in Designer. I can also scale it up and down. I want to be able to save it as png with transparent background to be used on a website. Can’t seem to be able to do that. I go to File > Export & select PNG but transparent background is not an option. So basically I want to take a vector image and save it as a raster image with transparent background. Any help would be appreciated. Thx!
  14. I tried yesterday to export a designe for my client its made with pen tool and few brush layers with blend mode set to Erase. When I tried to export it as pdf/svg transparent background ( that was already set on the document setup) Its not work and its export with white background and the erase layers was also visible (and not erased nothing) Even if I tried to ⌘+A>Export>svg/pdf>selection without background its not worked Its work fine only when I tried to export it as a png transparent I'm really need help because its for a client and the time is a little bit short Thank🦋❤️🦋
  15. I've been using AD for about a week now and I must say I love. I have a couple of tools and personalization options I still miss from Illustrator and I'm hoping to see them in Affinity soon. One of these is the option to choose the background color of a PNG file upon exporting. Setting a background in any color is fast and easy while creating the content, but exporting an image with a transparent background is impossible. Or at least I haven't found the way to do it.
  16. In an earlier version of Publisher I gave a (gradient) colour background to a picture frame and placed a partly transparent picture in the frame. (a .png portrait without background) The background than appeared as expected. I now try this again, but the background stays white. Where did I go wrong? (I took a frame I made earlier and it just worked - I could even change the colour etc - . But when I make the frame from scratch it does not)
  17. Hi, i'm using affinity photo and the problem is that i can't make the white spot on the picture transparent. I tried to "paint" it white then "erase with paper" but it doesn't work. Do you have an idea ? Thanks in advance
  18. I'm trying to remember 🤔 the term for an action that allows you to create a shape layer that allows layers below it to be transparent based on that particular shape layer. It's virtually the same effect as actual subtracting a part of a layer, but it's non-destructive. It's similar to a layer mask, but that's not what I'm referring to. Very handy feature, but I can't seem to find it in the help. Hopefully, I described it well enough for someone to know the correct term for it so I can figure out how to use it again. If not, I would be happy to provide more detail. Thanks in advance, Paul 😁
  19. Hi I have problem with correct printing with transparent elements. On a page are embedded pdf logo and few embedded psd with transparency and shadow fx. Printing on PS color laser printer without "Clip Transparency" I got a rectangle (lighter/darker) around each object and no shadow effect! Sample attached - print1.png = pdf logo Then print with selected "Clip Transparency". Is better. Although still poorly you will see a rectangle around the object and no shadow effect! Sample attached - print2.png, print3.png and corresponding - screenshot.png I find that the best way is to export to pdf and print pdf, however can I print without boxes around objects and with visible shadow effect? WIN 10
  20. Hi Guys, I have another ordinary sounding Question to you, again, I didn't found an suitable solution on the internet, so I thought I can ask here again, because last time I got very nice and competent answers here, thanks for that. As you can see, the windows of the bus are grey, but I want them to be transparent. I've already tried it with the bucket tool, but with my knowledge I am only able to give the windows another colour, how is it possible to make them transparent? I'd be very happy to receive an answer from you 😉 For the ones of you that are German, Hallo Zusammen, Wie im Anhang zu sehen sind die Fenster des Busses grau, ich hätte gerne dass diese transparent sind.
  21. A recent video about removing backgrounds points out a web-based technology that would be outstanding if it could be licensed by and incorporated into Affinity Photo or available as a plug-in. The video link is below (screen shot is from the video). It would be very, very useful for images with complex foregrounds. https://youtu.be/_N5EIn90bWw
  22. In my workflow, I often have to take an image that I've created in another program (a 3D program). I set the background color there to be distinct from the object I want so that I can select it and make it transparent. In AD, the process (the best one I could find) is the switch to Pixel, Rasterize, then Select -> Select Sampled Colors. When I select the background color, the marquee does indeed seem to properly select the object. Unfortunately, it doesn't really work this way. If I cut (intending to cut out the background) color is lost from the object as well. If I invert selection and cut (intending to cut the object for use elsewhere in AD) some of the background comes as if some of its color were still present. I want the marquee to represent a clean separation between object and background so I can place my images with other layers in a final graphic file. Essentially, I'm trying to treat "Select Sampled Colors" like magic wand. Is there a way to do this? The invert selection option seems to work better except that I still get a grayish, partially transparent box background instead of a fully transparent background.
  23. Hi, I'm using 1.8.3. When I export my slices and select PNG, no matter if in Document Setup I unchecked the transparent background, I still get Transparent backgrounds both in the Sections preview panel, both as a result. I want my slices to have a white background.
  24. trying to follow this photoshop tutorial for motion blur https://www.ephotozine.com/article/how-to-create-motion-blur-in-photoshop-13112 but have got lost when it comes to adding a gradient as in step 8. How do I get one side transparent? in Affinity photo setting slider to black/white points I'm just in a muddle. must be something simple I'm missing?
