  1. Greetings. I know there must be an easy way to Skew a 2D image? I have a background image of a TV studio... with placeholders for monitor screens. These screen are on various angles - I need to position a 2D TV monitor image into these positions. Any help would be new year fantastic. Thanks in advance...
  2. This is so bizarre I am not sure if it is a bug or something wrong with my software, but I have reset the macros & I still get the same problems. The basic issue is the values in the transform macro step keep changing. Sometimes this is just cosmetic -- it does not change how the macro executes the transform -- but other times it does. Since this is erratic & hard to explain, I hope the attachments will make clearer what is happening. This is the macro I am testing with & what the transform values look like initially vs. after either playing the macro in the Macro tab or saving it back to the library & then opening it for editing (whether or not I play it). This is what the test file looks like before playing the macro: After playing the macro for the first time, the test file looks like this: If I play the macro again (after undoing the changes the macro makes) I get this: Note that the offsets change, the shear is applied on the second run, & pretty much nothing is as I would expect from the original macro as created. Also attached is the test file & the exported afmacro file, zipped because (kind of absurdly) apparently we are not permitted to upload .afmacro files. Transform test.zip
  3. Hello everyone! When I change the height or width of a path In the transform tab, Designer will round the values to .x. I am using millimeters and when I enter something like 5.695mm, I will end up with 5.7mm. Is there a way of doing things more accurately? Best wishes, Shu
  4. Hello everyone, I've used the Affinity Photo for Windows beta version during the last few weeks and the feature I'm mostly missing (which gives me a unpleasing feeling when thinking about buying Affinity Photo for Windows now) is the possibility to transform objects or selections with a custom resample mode. I know there is the document resize tool which gives me bilinear, nearest neighbour and what not as resampe options but I'm used to do those actions on a selection base not document-wise (which feels like an odd workaround to me when copying stuff to an empty document do the resizing and paste it back). Based on the options available for document resize I assume that the implementation details are already done and the only thing missing is providing a UI and apply the resampling to each transform action. Perhaps I'm a bit spoiled using Photoshop but that is one of the essential features for me I'm missing and keeps me from throwing my money at you (actually it does not really prevents me to do so as I like the idea of a useful tool and alternative to adobe products I could get rid of Adobe much faster and a happy smile on my face when such a feature would be available) Last but not least I might have missed an option, shortcut or preferences to set to achieve what I described so any hint on how to achieve it (not some workaround like I've mentioned) is appreciated =). Best Regards
  5. Hi there. The ability to distribute objects is really useful, but I would really love to be able to arrange Nodes using several alignment and distribute commands. I would also like to be able to transform a current selection of nodes- Scale, rotate etc.
  6. attached file is the free transform tool from Adobe Illustrator. Is this on the roadmap of AD?

    SVG Exports

In the last week, I've been experiencing issues with exporting files in the SVG format, and I've never encountered this before. For example, I created a 500x500 document. I placed a circled with a 200px radius in the center of the document and exported as an SVG. This was the result I obtained: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="no"?> <!DOCTYPE svg PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD SVG 1.1//EN" "http://www.w3.org/Graphics/SVG/1.1/DTD/svg11.dtd"> <svg width="100%" height="100%" viewBox="0 0 500 500" version="1.1" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xml:space="preserve" style="fill-rule:evenodd;clip-rule:evenodd;stroke-linejoin:round;stroke-miterlimit:1.41421;"> <g transform="matrix(1.22699,0,0,1.22699,-29.7546,5.82822)"> <circle cx="228" cy="199" r="163" style="fill:rgb(255,229,43);"/> </g> </svg> Often times, it doesn't even get the viewBox attribute correct (though in this example it did). Is this a new issue? Or is this the byproduct of some setting I'm unaware of making? I've attached the .afdesign file for reference. Thank you so much. yellow_circle.afdesign
  8. There is a shortcut to toggle the transform panel. But somehow it doesn't make the transform panel active. I would expect that it does. Because it would allow us to make transform changes directly from the keyboard without having to click on the transform panel first. There are a few other issues with the transform panel. When using the tab key, a field is selected as expected, but if I want to preform simple math on the value I can't position the cursor before or behind the value using the keyboard: using the left or right arrow keys increases the value! Strange indeed. Adding nudge distance in this panel would be a great timesaver as the preferences is not a good place to store something some of us change quite a lot. I also wonder why moving a duplicate with the nudge distance is not used in Power duplicate? Cheers, Wim
  9. You can try these steps from my file 1. On the 'Lock Children' mode 2. Select multiple boxes 3. Try to rescale it 4. Undo (Ctrl+Z) 5. The bug like my screenshot will show *The same bug happened to previous version Artboard that you have been fixed. Cheers. test_multipleTransform.afdesign
  10. Dear Affinity Designer Team, I am very excited follower of your work. Your app seems to have the potential for a AI alternative for what I am looking for since months. I am very close to purchase it. But there is one critical feature I am missing and that is a 3D tool box. Beside AI there is no other vector graphics software on the market which is able to "extrude" objects and to use their path to make perspectival logos a.s.o. To give a better understanding of my request I attach three AI tutorials resulting in very simple but neat logo designs: a) 3D maze: http://gomedia.us/zine/tutorials/illustrator/create-3d-vector-labyrinth-maze/ b) Flying Stars: http://www.bittbox.com/illustrator/illustrator-tutorial-how-to-make-3d-vector-vintage-stars c) Perspectival logos: http://www.vektorgarten.de/illu-tipps-3d.html In addition a shape library for simple 3D objects (cube, sphere, cylinder, tube...) would be amazing. I hope, I did not ignore a feature which is doing similar things. Thanks for your great work. Cheers, Laser.
  11. I tried all of the copy and paste possibilities, but nothing helped. How to copy and paste from one layer to another transform values? Appreciate any help! :)
  12. Hello, new user here. I love the program - many of things that I took many steps to do in AI I can do in just a few in AD! I'm loving it! One feature that stands out is mirroring. If you could please add mirroring around - say the centerpoint of a shape. That way one can be sure that the mirrored object is equidistant from a "horizon" point! Much appreicated!
  13. Hi I being trying to find a way to transform part of a vector selection. Grab some nods in my image and transform like scale and rotate..
  14. Hi. Please make in 1.5 Photo and Designer better modifications. First of all ability to place Linked, not only embedded document, converting selected layers to embedded/linked document. After applying Perspective tool to embedded document it becomes just pixel layer, make it keeping smart object like in Photoshop after applying any modifications. Add ability to make independent copy on embedded document, not only instance. Converting between Linked/Embedded. Look how it works in Photoshop, all modifications on Smart Object are just adding like smart filters or smart modifiers. It is very important to have this features! Thank you.
  15. Hi Today I encountered what seems like a bug to me. When I group some objects in Designer and then proceed to scale them, they scale from the opposite reference point (only left and right are swapped). Non-grouped objects don't behave like this. I've added a video of the problem. Thanks! Bauke Reference point.mov
  16. Transform only shows one decimal place but it can have more, which means we can never trust its numbers. I’ve drawn two rectangles. They are identical in every way (size, position, stroke width) except stroke color. I’ll make my point with width, but it happens with every other field as well (X, Y, W, H). Let’s start by making red 7.98mm wide. Wait, it made it 8mm? That’s not what I wanted, but alright, I guess I can live with that. Lets make green 8mm wide, then. You can already start to see the beginning of the problem. red is in fact 7.98mm just like we asked, but Affinity Designer completely hides that from us. Imagine you’re working with shapes you drew earlier and you want to check how wide they are. That is impossible, as there is no way to know their real size. That alone makes Affinity Designer unsuitable for any kind of job that takes precision, but it gets worse. To make sense of this mess, lets at least try to make both rectangles the same size. Select them both, and set them to 7.8mm. You’ve got to be kidding me. So we can’t even resize them at the same time, and they’ll weirdly take their proportions which are invisible to the user into account? Lets try something stupid: just select the width field and press ↩ It worked, which in this case actually makes the case even more of a mess. This is a problem that has been going on ever since the first beta, way before Affinity Designer was first released on the Mac App Store. Although here I’ve only tackled Transform, Affinity Designer’s precision is absolute garbage in many more areas. Expand Stroke is another example of a feature that does not work even slightly well (makes way too many points), and Boolean Operations, though getting better (they were absolutely unusable for a long while, even after a few stable releases) are still lacking. Once more I’ll reinforce the notion that the Transform panel absolutely cannot be trusted for even the slightest needs of precision. Having one decimal point (and in some cases none, as when 7.98mm became 8mm) isn’t ideal, but it is inexcusable that a Pro app with such behaviour does not at least give the user a hint that a value is not what it really says. At the very least there must be some indication that a value isn’t exactly what is shown. It does not matter what, but something.
  17. I know this has been asked at least a couple of times, but I am still needing to copy, edit in illustrator, then paste in order to perform transforms (rotate, scale, move) on selected nodes. Can we please get either an indicator of whether this is going to be addressed soon or any workarounds/workflows that can make this less painful? The more I dive into original works in Designer the more I don't understand how artists cope without this capability? Many thanks in advance - John
  18. Hi, Is there a way to work with Affinity Designer so that I never get decimals in the Transform panel? I'm getting mixed results with using "Force Pixel Alignment" and "Move by Whole Pixel" and due to snapping/aligning, I sometimes still end up getting : X: 900px | Y:62,5px Of course this makes sense, if you align something in the middle, and the heights don't match, you do the divide by 2, and get a ,5 decimal... but it makes me always having to check the transform panel to make sure I don't have "badly" positioned elements. The reason I want this is for better export. I found that export works best if things are aligned on full pixel value. Maybe you can change the logic of the "Force Pixel Alignment" and/or "Move by Whole Pixel" to actually reflect this and do rounding of values whenever decimals are present. The explanations above are a bit all over the place, hopefully you understand the goal. If I were to go deeper into implementation, I would say this would make sense for "Move by Whole Pixel" with the rounding of the X / Y values. If user holds ALT / OPTION key pressed, then maybe allow decimal values, as an exception. Width and Height with decimals are maybe not that big of a deal, because the export slice can be set to a whole number, but the reference point (X/Y) is pretty important.
  19. Hi This is my first questions as a new Affinity user. I try to transform and duplicate and let Affinity do the job for me. I will set a "start figure" and a "end figure". Then I try to find a way to tell Affinity how many steps the transformation will be in. But I can´t find it. Hope you understand what I try to explain. Please see my document for an example. Kind regards, Roger Untitled.afdesign
  20. I recently purchased AD and am unable to precisely size an object. the Transform Panel under layers only shows Flip or Rotate. Where can I go to do this? I'm using IOs Mountain Lion.
  21. (not a feature, a simple change) I LOVED that affinity assumes you don't want to screw with typography during transforms, so that shift isn't required to constrain XY during transform. But then it blows that by being inconsistent on shape or curve transforms, which does my head in. This would be a simple change to make consistent across the board, and I can't see any good reason to not. Thanks again for this great app.
  22. I just bought AD and I do not care if it does everything I want. I just want to explore it and contribute to this fine tool and its evolution. I do mostly abstract geometrical art and am wondering if it can do the following functions. 1. Something similar to the "Adobe Transform Effect Tool" with Copies (repeater), rotation, position and scale control. I use this tool to create repeated object patterns in spirals or horizontal stripes. 2. Rotation and copy function. I use this to create mandala patterns around circles. This would also be a part of a repeater function. 3. Custom brushes - Pattern, Art, Scatter - I use this a lot to create custom borders that tile the object. For example I would like to have a brush with all dots that scales based on pen pressure. Illustrator way to do this is a pain making all the dots in a line first. If AD has a repeater function please share the terminology used in user manual for me to learn.

    Transform panel problems

There is a problem in the transform panel when I sync the width and height with the chain and then use the scroll wheel. After a few scrolls in the mouse the values of the width and height becomes dissimilar.
  24. Hello, one of a basic/daily tool we use in Photoshop is the transform tool. It is missing in Affinity. Is it plan to implement it in a close future ? Thanks
  25. Since 1.) the Bug Report Section is closed, 2.) I can find no explanation for this, and 3.) the search tools do not seem to work well for finding information on the site, I am reporting this very annoying bug without knowing if it is already known, being worked on, being ignored, etc.: Transform position data sometimes messed up on flipped/rotated items (grouped and ungrouped) makes it very hard to position duplicated items with accuracy. Using Affinity Designer 1.3.5 on core i7 iMac running 10.8.5 After an items is flipped, the position information in the transform panel sometimes gets messed up. With rotation the axis of the item sometimes appears to get rotated with the object (!??) which is annoying since the position information in the translation panel becomes largely useless (left is right, up is down, etc.) While a problem in itself, it can often be noticed and understood as the transform panel indicates the item has been rotated. When an item is flipped, however, the axes are again sometimes flipped with the object (!??) This again makes the position information in the transform panel largely useless in positioning objects because again, left is right etc. More annoying however, there is no indication of the transform so one "just has to know" the position data is screwed up and useless. I have tried to replicate this, but have no sure way to do it. It seems to be arbitrary and non-standard behavior but may be related to multiple duplication and/or transformation/flipping (I'm creating parts duplicating them, and using them in another part of the drawing. Is this a known problem, file corruption or what? If I am missing something with the software, please let me know. PS why is bug reporting closed? How should bugs be reported?
