  1. Currently, only Affinity's iPad apps allow you to use touchscreen gestures to rotate the document view. Affinity's desktop apps on the other hand, do not support touchscreen gestures for view-rotation, yet gestures for zooming in and out are supported. While there are workarounds for this such as using the ALT+Mousewheel Scroll shortcut and trackpad gestures to rotate the view, these can be cumbersome for those like myself who draw on touchscreens laptops and are used to using gestures for rotating the document view like in many other illustration and art creation apps. Given that prominent art creation desktop apps like Photoshop and Krita allow for touchscreen gestures for document or canvas rotation, and that the Affinity Desktop Suite already supports them for zooming in/out, it feels like an oversight to not support the rotate-view gesture on desktop as well, especially since it is supported on Affinity's iPad apps. If it helps, below is an example of how Krita allows for view-rotation using just a computer's touch screen.
  2. Hello - While drawing with a tablet pen on the Affinity Photo 2.1.1 canvas, if a finger on the non-pen hand touches the canvas, a streak can result from the pen point in the direction of the touch point. The same problem occurs if touching outside of the canvas, such as pressing a toolbar button. This appears to be Affinity Photo not ignoring touch input while the pen is in use. A couple of workarounds for this are: (1) lift the pen before touching with the finger of the other hand; and (2) Select Edit | Settings | Tools | Touch For Gestures Only, which will prevent the streaking if touching within the canvas area. Is this a known bug? I could not see any mention of it in the forums. Thank you.
  3. I like Affinity Photo but it is an absolute hell using it on a touch-only basis. I use a Surface Pro 7 and there are glaring problems with touch screen usability that bring me to a boiling frustration every time I use Photo for more than a few minutes. We need touch controls in the Toolbar for common functions. Undo/redo, deselect, incremental rotation, etc. need Toolbar controls, whether added by default or as an option under the Customize Toolbar window. The fact that I have to sit and repeatedly do Edit > Undo using a pen or my finger, because the simplest thing like an undo button is missing from the UI, is insane. Especially when I make a sketch and then decide to change something, and need to hit undo about 40 times. Immense oversight. The option to disable and hide the canvas viewport's scrollbars would be invaluable. Touch misfires are bad enough when they cause the canvas to jitter or cause a tool change unexpectedly, but when the slightest "tap" of a nonexistent finger hits the scrollbars, your entire canvas gets thrown to the side instantaneously. Very disorienting, and happens at least once a day in my experience. I never ever use them since I have both a touch screen and a gesture capable trackpad, so they ONLY mess things up. An off button would be very nice. It would also be nice to be able to tell Photo to interpret a single-finger drag (assuming you have touch for gestures only turned on) as a pan canvas command, and a two finger gesture then could always be considered zooming. The gesture interpretation between two finger pinch and two finger drag seems to be really finicky and ends up being very clunky. Finally, though it might be a very niche thing, having a Canvas Lock toggle you could add to the Toolbar would be nice. That way one could lock the canvas while doing intensive inking, to prevent possible jitter due to a palm rejection misfire, and manually unlock it when intending to pan and zoom around the canvas.
  4. Hey, So I really love to use Affinity Designer on my iPad Pro and love how intuitive and natural it really feels. But in the end of the day its still an iPad and producing large jobs on it can be a hassle at times, therefore requiring a desktop. So I was wondering if it was possible to bring that interface or gestures to the desktop (ideally also for Photo and Publisher). As at least for Windows, many laptops and some desktops are coming with Touch Displays and Styluses. And it can even be the case with Macs when hooked up to a drawing tablet. But you still have to use your mouse and keyboard quite a lot when working on such devices as the interface doesn't have any touch gestures or a UI layout that would make it more convenient when working with touch/stylus enabled devices/displays. So I was wondering if it was possible to bring that iPad interface or at least the touch gestures to the Desktop Versions. It doesn't have to be the default, but simply a mode that users can turn on if they so desire. As this would bring the intuitiveness of the iPad's touch and stylus interface, but with the power of a full desktop. Anyway just wanted to see if this was possible, Thank You for all your Work! You Guys Rock!
  5. Supported gestures question. I see an option is added for supporting touch gestures, and not drawing with the the finger. However I am not able to find anywhere how to enable additional gestures and what they are. Pinch to zoom - This works 2 Finger move to pan canvas - This works The gestures in question are: Rotate canvas - (all apps 2 finger rotate) AP - ? Undo - (CSP, Fresco, Concepts, etc - 2 finger tap, PS, SBP - 3 finger swipe) AP -? Redo - (Other apps 3 finger tap or similar) AP - ? Restore canvas at the right angle after rotation (This might not be necessary if the canvas will snap at the right angles)- ?
  6. This sounds silly but makes a very big difference to the feel of the app. When dragging & dropping I frequently don’t know if I’m actually doing it. Issue 1: I don’t know how long to hold the layer for. I need to know when I can start dragging a layer - however, Affinity offers almost no visual feedback Everywhere else in iOS, the item you’re holding ‘pops’ off the screen so you know the item can now be dragged, rather than scrolling your list. See the GIFs attached and let me know if you can spot the moment the layer goes from held to draggable. It’s possible in affinity, but so much more obvious in Procreate. Proposed solution: Have the layer ‘pop’ off the screen the moment it is dragable. Issue 2: I have a long list of layers, and I’m on a multi-touch device, I would normally hold the layer with one finger, and use my other fingers to scroll through the list to find the new spot for my held layers - but that doesn’t work here. (Try it in the files app, or procreate for comparison.) Proposed solution: make the layers palette respond to multi-touch.
  7. Hi, I belive there is an issue with touchpad/touchscreen support. Designer version: 1.8.2.620 (just installed the 90-day trial) Windows 10 I'm using a HP Spectre with touchscreen. Both the screen and touchpad are multitouch. Expected behavior: Pinching on both touchpad and touchscreen should zoom-in/out the document. Moving two fingers on the touchscreen should move the document (just like you drag it with a View Tool). Ideally I would see it working the same way on touchpad. What happens: The pinch gesture works correct on the touchscreen (sometimes it stops working though and needs restart) but on touchpad it ALWAYS works ONLY the first time (really curious to me - first zoom-in or out works perfect, after that no gesture on touchpad works like it didn't work at all. After Designer restart there is again one chance to zoom-in/out with touchpad ) Moving with two fingers on touchscreen works sometimes, sometimes it stops working (like zooming on the screen) and sometimes I get only one chance to do it (like the pinch gesture) and then it stops. I've already installed Designer trial some time ago (I believe it was version 1.6) and it had the same issues (it was working exacly the same - or NOT working actually). BTW, I'm happy to see how the Affinity products develop and get better, and this time I'm about to buy it for sure. But really hope this issues would get fixed in the future. Best regards
  8. I have recently invested in Affinity designer and chosen to use it as my main tool for producing graphics artwork. Unfortunately, the program seems to to have issues when used with an external touch screen. ALL MY SOFTWARE IS UP TO DATE my mac is updated, so is my Cintiq and needless to say, my copy of Affinity designer. I have followed instructions to stop updates from Apple that interferes with the touch screen connection as well. On starting up, everything works just fine and I can use the touch screen with the software. After about 5 minutes, there is an increasing delay on every order to the point where editing curves becomes a nightmare. Another 15 minutes of use, and the touch input stops working completely, the only input that still communicates with the software is the pen that comes with the tablet. As it is possible, if somewhat slower and more cumbersome, work can carry on without touch input. But as I stubbornly try to finish the artwork, more functions start to play up or stop to work completely. I have read on this forum that this exact problem existed 2017, and there was no resolution offered from Affinity designer then, maybe now three years later the program developers can take another look at this issue as it is vital to the drawing functions. Touch screens are the future for graphics, it is about time to sort this out. thank you.
  9. Same issue as in Affinity Designer, copy/pasting it here as it's also relevant to this application, perhaps even more for some people who prefer a fully raster workflow. There is still no Pen Mode option anywhere in this application, this makes drawing and illustrating on Surface Pros, Wacom Cintiq, etc very annoying as you'll leave unwanted marks as we lay our hand on the screen. For anyone wondering, Pen Mode is an option that disables touch drawing. All I ask is a simple if statement: Fingers are touching the canvas, are they zooming/scrolling? If yes, do the scroll/zoom, if no do nothing. That's it, no further logic needed. Can we do this one thing? It would help massively all illustrators out there. Thanks!

  11. Hi, I'm often using Affinity to draw with a pen on my windows laptop and the most frustrating part is undoing strokes. When using the laptop as a tablet, the keyboard is folded away and I can't press Ctrl+Z. While I've read that there's no touch based interface planned, I would love to be able to add shortcuts to some basic actions like undo/redo to the toolbar like this for example: Actions I would use in the toolbar would be: Undo/Redo Changing selection mode (add to selection, remove from selection, new selection) for objects on the canvas and for layers Grouping selected Layers
  12. Hello, I am wondering if there is any way to pan the canvas with my finger. I have a Microsoft Surface Pro 4, which has a touch screen. I also use Phase One Capture One and Clip Studio Paint. Within both of these applications you can pan the canvas with your finger without needing to change tools. This is a quick and natural gesture, it does not matter what tool is selected and does not require any modification key presses, nor does it require I remove my pen away from its hover state. For clarification, the finger is for panning and the pen or mouse is used for brushing. Does Affinity Photo for Windows 10 offer this feature as I've explained? Is this a feature being looked into for inclusion? Thanks.
  13. Is there any plan to support iPad mobile / touch interface for Surface (windows) platform?
  14. Hi, If I enable ,,Touch for gestures only" under Preferences/Tools, I can still move, place shapes/fills/etc, it only disables the pen tool and the pencil. Is this intentional? If so, please make it consistent with Affinity Photo - this option works there as expected. Thanks! Balázs
  15. Hello, I am wondering if there is any way to pan the canvas with my finger. I have a Microsoft Surface Pro 4, which has a touch screen. I am fluent in Phase One Capture One. For clarification, the finger is for panning and the pen or mouse is used for brushing. Does Affinity Photo for Windows 10 offer this feature as I've explained? If not, is there any way I can set it up to do so, or any way I can offer this suggestion to the developers? Thanks.
  16. Summary: Designer treats finger-touch and pen-down as the same thing. It would be so much better if touch events (including single finger) were used to pan the canvas, rather than "click", if a pen is being used. Details: Just got Designer, and I love it already! However, using this on a MS Surface, the application has an annoying inability to distinguish between pen and touch input. From other drawing apps, I've become used to a very natural paradigm where the pen acts as the selected tool, and touch input is used solely to move the canvas (or in some cases, to select). Probably the best, free, example to illustrate the former case is Plumbago: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/p/plumbago-a-microsoft-garage-project/9nblggh5gk42 Once you start doing the "draw, move, draw, move" action it's very hard to go back to something else. Unfortunately, Designer treats both finger-taps and pen contact as "mouse down" event, which is really annoying when trying to draw something large on a zoomed-in view. For example: I'd normally pen-down, drag the control-points out, pen down again for the second point, then pan the canvas along with my finger, then pen down for the third point, and so on. However, doing this on Designer results in a spurious point being added when I try to drag the canvas. I know that two-finger-drag will move the canvas, but it's not as natural a gesture (and it sometimes zooms rather than drags). So, my feature request is this: allow a separate tool function to be assigned to screen-touch events when a pen is in use. By default, that could be the "Hand" tool, to move the canvas, although I can see a use-case for object selection being the "touch" function. The simplest implementation, though would be to use touch events only for canvas panning automatically as soon a pen is detected. This may need to be controlled with a manual "off-switch" to revert to the current behaviour, but I don't think many users would want to draw with the fingers of their non-dominant hand when they've a pen in the dominant one.
  17. Hello! Recently got myself a windows 10 computer with a touch display and it turns out that photoshop cs6 doesnt support touch... Does affinity photo fully support touch on the interface? Both pen and normal touch, that would be enough for me to do the switch over. Thanks!
  18. I'm using Affinity Designer on a new Surface Pro with a pen. I find if I touch the screen with my hand while I'm using the pen, I draw when I want to. This doesn't allow a proper sketching use case. On Windows, software has the ability to support "palm block", where the palm is ignored and pen input is still allowed. Does Affinity Designer support "palm block" or plan to implement it in the future? I think Affinity Designer would make an amazing sketch tool for pen artists.
  19. Affinity Photo registers single touch inputs as a brush input. This is not ideal when using the software on penabled devices. Computers with an active stylus (i.e. Surface, Cintiq) let users rest their palm on the screen while using the pen, but the technology is not perfect and occasionally there are glitches where computer registers users' hand as a single finger touch input. It results in small dots and strokes all over the canvas, and it is quite frustrating to see your work speckled with these glitches after merging all the layers. It is also troublesome during the normal use as well, because you occasionally end up with unintentional lines when you just wanted to pan the canvas and unconsciously attempted to do so with only one finger as you do on many other apps. It would prevent a lot of frustrations if you could add an option to make the software react to single touch input differently rather than a brush input, for example, pan, brush size, or just do nothing.
  20. Hello! I’m testing Autodesk Sketchbook with Wacom Intuos Photo Small tablet. I can zoom, rotate and move (in any direction) canvas with two fingers, without take fingers off tablet. It is very comfortable. Can you implement such feature in Affinity Designer / Photo (Windows)? I love Affinity software but I miss comfortable manipulation of canvas. Sławek
  21. Hello, A few weeks ago I got myself a new Surface Book and Affinity Photo. I wanted to test how good the touch screen works and I started drawing something. But I could not do that properly because everytime I put down my hand whilest drawing it started painting underneath my handpalm. In Windows I found the option to ignore touch input, whilest the pen is beeing used, but if I lift the pen too high the same problem occures. Now I wanted to ask the Affinity Team if they have a solution to this problem, maybe theres a option to ignore touch input and only accept the pen. Yours faithfully, Lukas.K
  22. Telegram (on iPhone at least) has a pretty nice curves adjustment feature in their photo sharing dialog you do not add points onto the curve but give the curve a gentle push to either side this gives more subtle results and feels just right on a touch surface maybe this is something that could be added to the iPad as well to even better use the touch input method cheers
  23. I just bought a Macbook Pro 15 inch with trackpad. I would really like to use the big pad with a pen well designing with affinity photo and affinity designer. Inklet software with a Pogo pen would be perfect! Does Affinity support that technology? Mahalos in Advance Steve
  24. I ordered a slightly used Wacom Intuos5 touch Small Tablet with pen, cable and wireless kit for $140 from a graduating Arts student. Does it sound like a good buy? Being a lefty I noticed Wacom's tablets can be flipped around and software switched. I know Huion has handedness settings but I still don't fancy rotating the tablet and have the labels upside down. My only concern is whether it will lag on wireless with AD or APh? I recall reading somewhere that USB cable is preferred. Can you advise me. Have Affinity staff got inhouse experience with this model (PTH-451) Thanks Michael
  25. I am currently in the exploration phase of affinity designer for windows so sorry if this question is allready asked. I am using this on my surface 3 and pinch and zoom works great while painting, but when swiping around with one finger, the program is registering it as mouse input, is there a way to make panning the canvas with one finger possible, I checked the preferences menu and searched the forum but I haven't found a solution yet. I know it is possible with 2 fingers, but it is not always that accurate and sometimes, pinch and zoom registers a brush stroke (mouse input) as well, which is really anoying.
