  1. My problem is that after doing some projects in the newley aquired AP Workbook I now find that my paint brush tool is jagged rather than round. I have looked to find a way to reset it back to i9ts normal setting but with no succes. Its probably simple, but for the life of me I can't seem to find a solution.
  2. I guess this has been requested before, but the fact that this very helpful tool is not yet in Affinity Designer, makes me feel envious of my workmates using Adobe Illustrator. I'm not talking about the graph, but the tool that gives you the capability to adjust the width of strokes at a selected point. Can you guys confirm if you are working on it, please? I would get very excited!
  3. Update: I went to Microsoft and tried it. You can use the vector brush tool with the surface pen in the same “drawing” motion that you can use on the iPad. I’ve been debating purchasing an iPad Pro vs. a Surface Pro 6...I was messing around with the app on the iPad Pro at the apple store and one thing I liked a lot is you can use the Apple Pencil to essentially “draw” your vectors through the vector brush tool. Is there the ability to do this on Microsoft surface pro with the surface pen with the pc version of affinity designer? Or is it only for the iPad app? Thanks!
  4. Hello, everyone. I'm new here and to Designer (for the iPad). Currently, I'm working on my first inked piece using this app and am having some trouble with the Vector Brush Tool. So here's what I've done: 1. I opened a new file... 2. Selected the Vector Brush Tool... 3. Outlined the drawing... Here's the problem: 1. I can't seem to adjust the pressure of the strokes by dragging the curve 2. When I do drag the curve and let go, the curve jumps back to normal (even if it does move, the stroke remains unaffected) ***See last photo*** Is there something I'm missing? Thanks
  5. Problem: With my fire fighting pre-plan work I need to carefully draw one of 4 colors over top of property images from Google Earth. I also need to select various pre-made objects like Gas and Propane symbols located on 40 layers. 1 - When I try to precisely begin to draw a yellow fence line for instance, too often the tiny pause I make while carefully positioning my stylus gets interpreted as an automatic color picker and my yellow color disappears. I have to reselect the particular yellow all over again, and again. Very frustrating and needlessly slows my work down! 2. A similar thing happens when I select an object on a layer like a fire hydrant to relocate. Suddenly a whole different layer might get selected and moved accidentally which can ruin the map. Ultimate Fix: Create a preference menu where each of the tools can have that option turned off, or the hold and pause time for auto/option can be adjusted Easy Fix: I'm sure this can be done in just an hour or two and would make a massive improvement to the interface. Just add one preference for now globally where a user can select how long or short the delay is which evokes the auto/option for Affinity in general. A fast or slow slider or just a drop down- 0.1 sec, 0.2 sec... The auto/option trigger delay is already part of your programing. You just need to add a small routine where the user can change the timing. cheers and I really hope this happens soon. Affinity is perfect otherwise! btate
  6. First of all, you guys are amazing. Your programmers and designers have done an incredible job on building Affinity. Look like after 15 years of retouching in Photoshop I am finally going to switch because you have the tools I wanted Photoshop to have but never had, more humane and thoughtful approach to the overall design and much better performance. Now onto important requests. All these are not just vanity features but those that I came across using very often during my retouching works. - add an aspect ratio shortcut Alt or Ctrl to image cropping. I know you have a dropdown, but it doesn't help much. Choosing the right crop and composition is often a multistep process, adjusting it with an aspect ration, then correction a bit without it the on/off etc. It has to be easy to use shortcut to make it flexible. - Path blur. A complex feature, I know. something that blurs along a curve or several parallel or converging curves with adjustable speed setting on ends and along the curve. Very important for automotive photography retouching. - Same but an elliptic curve with multiple adjustable ellipses. - please add blending to dust and scratches. Right now the results are pretty rough just like in photoshop. Could be something similar to the healing algorithm, where the texture is taken from the surrounding areas, or at least some simple pixel blend to remove the rough edges and artifacts around the remove dust/scratches. - Basic metadata edit. Title, description, keywords, copyright. It's important to have it within the same software. I tried to use separate software for that but that makes it a two step process. Photoshop's metadata editor is fine but is missing spellchecking. Opening the GPS location with google maps in a browser would be handy too. Easy to implement I think. Please consider. - an option to have the layer on/off checkbox on left Thanks a lot. Keep up the great work. Will recommend you to all my colleagues. Alex
  7. I have made a numbers spreadsheet which calculates column widths for creating guides using the guide manager as a short term fix until the feature is implemented. Currently it works for 2-6 columns. I think that should work for most people's uses but it would be fairly trivial to edit to allow for more columns. You have to input some key data for each layout: Page width (crucial info for obvious reasons) Inner margin Outer margin (these three together then calculate the useable width within the margins) Number of columns you require (up to max 6) Gutter width I thought it would be helpful to others so you can download using the link below. Please use and edit it as you wish. calculating columns_to share.numbers Robin
  8. I would like the ability to control opacity from within the pencil tool— like an rgba set up. I would also like to be able to set the tool as a multiply (or other) type to quickly layer shapes and colors. As of writing I’m not sure if this is possible without going into the layer menu to adjust opacity and layer types.
  9. I don't exactly know how to formulate my question, so I hope it has not been answered already. The problem I face is in regards to the pen tool. I've drawn a clef using the pen tool by creating a s hape (not a line, because it was easier to modify the thickness of the stroke). But now the points where the shape overlaps, are rendered transparent, with no fill. Obviously not what I want. Is there a way to fix this? I've attached two screenshots, one with outline mode and one normal with the node tool and the shape selected. Thanks for your help
  10. I accidentally closed some of the tools on the right side. How do I restore them to default? Also if I wanted to change the tools how would I do that? Thanks in advance!
  11. The Artistic Text Tool does not display Emoji characters. Please add this to the ATT, thanks Please see also the attached video, maybe I do something wrong, if so, I appreciate any help and hints. Artistic Text Tool 2018-05-25 09-14-54.mp4 Cheers, Roland
  12. Any body found a better equivalent to using the beaker tool to pick my colors, like a color pallet tool. Iv had affinity photo for about 4 months and until a couple of weeks ago I didn't think about it but now it sounds like a smart idea. Please help as in a guide... iv checked the new board and I didn't find any help there.
  13. This has been an issue for a while now. The blur brush tool adjustments in the tool bar (opacity, hardness and flow) don't seem to be doing anything. I've been using affinity photo now for about 7 months now. This never used to be an issue - the opacity, hardness and flow sliders would all have an effect on the blur brush tool. However all of the sudden, one day they stopped working and the blur brush tool is stuck on max blur! Can anybody tell me why or how to fix this? Note: these adjustments work just fine on paint brushes, burn/dodge brush tools etc its only an issue with the blur tool.
  14. Please, add just a simple option to stop toggling between tools I just used when I press the same hotkey twice, please! Its just too much annoying!
  15. Request: please explain the reason behind the "Tool Toggle" function in Affinity Designer. It the reason, speed and efficiency? (that's the only reason that I can think of) But it doesn't work because, to my knowledge, there is no paradigm in digital (software) or non-digital (by hand) layout design in which "reaching for" a tool, has the possibility of returning one-or-the-other tool. I am interested in understanding the reasoning behind the "Tool Toggle" function, to understand the implications of requesting it be removed or provided optionally, in Affinity Designer. Thank you so much for your excellent software, as well as your customer assistance.
  16. So I'm trying to use a few triangles on a larger triangle, using compounds to try and flatten the vertices of a triangle, this works well on 2 vertices but leaves an artefact on the 3rd, the screenshots should show it and nothing I've tried so far has gotten rid of it; editing curves, making another triangle, etc. I should also mention that this artefact remains after I export it into PNG format for example
  17. Hello, When using the fill tool, it seems impossible to pick colors from your image outside of switching to a different tool. This seems like a very basic and obvious functionality, am I missing something about the usage of the tool? Pixel artists will use this a lot. Photoshop handles this really well, similarly to how it works in Affinity with the pen tool. Press ALT during tool usage to pick a color. At the moment, the ALT key for the Fill tool in Affinity seems to have no use. Adding this would make pixel artists lives a lot easier Thoughts?
  18. Is it just me, or do others find the iPad version and its interface confusing, compared with the desktop version? There doesn’t always seem to be enough visual feedback, such as a visible brush circle, and perhaps sometimes that’s because there isn’t a brush selected or the wrong kind of layer is being used. If the user doesn’t know this, a lot of trial and error “work” is needed to fix things - or not! Some form of status panel could be very helpful, together with better feedback on the photo being edited.
  19. we really need these 2 tools for Designer: text envelope (example: to make the curved baseline of Netflix logo) text path (example: to make the text follow the circle around Starbucks Coffee logo) aside from that, i think another tool required is contour tool, but it's already mentioned in the previous thread. thanks developers!
  20. Hello, I have a really big problem with the Gradient tool... When I use the tool it immediately applies black/white color on my image, i can first change the color when its already applied which means under my intended color there will remain black or white pixels which make the gradient look terrible. My question is can I turn the automatic-application off somehow? it kind of works with Context:Fill-->Type:Solid Im just wondering if other people have experienced same issues with the tool, im still a newbie at the program... overall it's good but I enjoyed the Gradient tool of GIMP way more... Affinity Photo never acutally saves the colors that i've used before it always jumps back to black/white colors or it lets me select 1 color but the other one stays black/ or white... I struggle so much at this, maybe it's on me to blame. IDK anymore... sometimes I click on Stroke and the ( Type: ) option is even locked... or it doesnt allow me to reverse the gradient on the options.
  21. I need to hide the pointer (central cross with big 1024px tool-size circle round it) while applying the liquify turbulence tool in Affinity photo. I'd like to be able to drag the tool down the screen from top to bottom, filming as it causes its effect, without seeing the tool pointer/cursor. I know pressing space bar turns it into a much smaller hand, but that's still no good and acts as a view tool, pulling the artwork down too. I suspect it can't be done, but will be very happy if someone here can prove me wrong.
  22. Would be great to have an OFFSET PATH feature , like Illustrator has, to reduce or enlarge an object. This is particularly hand on more complex objects when trying to resize in uniform. If we have something like this for desginer please let me know. Also something like CADTOOLS would be awesome. I am create a lot of graphics that go straight to a printer, and the measurement tools that CADTOOLS have are fast and easy to add dimensions to each piece of art on a artboard. Saves alot of time typing it in, and there is not mistaking size of art for the printer. Thanks Gary
  23. First of all very nice job on the mobile app! There's still room for improvement, but it's by far the best iPad app in it's category. The features that I would like to see in the new version are: persistent tool selection - specifically, I do a lot of pixel art work, which means I use the pixel brush. However, every time I need to use the Selection persona, I come back to the brush tool being reset to it's default tool, the paint brush. This is quite annoying as I always have to tap 2 times just to go back to the brush I was using. If Affinity would remember I selected the pixel brush my workflow would be much improved switching personas and having personalized menus on 2-finger tap is cool, however, once I make a selection and go back to the drawing persona to move/resize/draw something I cannot access the Select menu without having to switch back to the Select persona. Most of the times I just need to deselect all, so having to tap 3 times is frustrating. I would like to have an option to deselect without switching personas. Maybe long press on the Select persona button in the toolbar gives me the Select menu without switching, maybe 2-finger tap includes some selection items as well even in the default drawing workspace. the fill color I feel should be the color that you're drawing with, not a different one. This is a standard in all drawing software and it's a logical implementation of real life painting - you use your brush to paint small areas, you dump the whole bucket of paint to fill in a large area. Having 2 active colors is nice, but the ability to switch between them and have a primary one which all tools use makes more sense than arbitrarily assigning different colors to different tools. Keep up the awesome job! Thanks! t
  24. Hi, I was just practicing with AD again and came across something I found interesting. I was trying to make pennywise using Affinity Designer and with his facial features he has some pretty iconic Eyebrows, I tried to use a custom brush which looked like this --- but When I dragged the brush it came out like normal. I was wondering if I could make a custom brush or use a tool that did exactly how this brush appears. thank you
