  1. I have already searched in the forum, but have not found what I was looking for. My Question: Is it possible to set the following PDF properties during an export? Document Author Document title If so, how? In the following picture you see the desired result. My Title and A. Author should be filled by affinity designer. Thanks in advance! best regards
  2. Hey everyone, with the all-knowing alternatives to Affinity Suite (and also numerous other unrelated apps/applications), right-clicking on the name of the currently open file in the file window/titlebar allows you to see the location (unless it's a new, unsaved document). In combination with the option »open recent« (which also only shows the file name but not the file path) or the touch bar, which as well displays the last X documents, this would be incredibly helpful. Because … you know … we creatives sometimes forget where the current file or the latest version was saved to. 😅 My next workaround would actually be »Save As…«, which – in other apps – usually can be used to make out the location of the currently opened file. But here too, Affinity Suite seems to have its own way of working, which is not really comprehensible to me, as it shows the location of the previous/last »Save as…« operation, which is rarely the location of the currently opened file. I would be happy if this small feature gets implemented in a future release. 😉 Greetings Dennis
  3. Hi all, I am producing a larger book (on bio-inspired computing) with about 10 main chapters. I know the possibilities to automatically number titles, subtitles. My question: Is it possible to do that over several unconnected text frames? The book is large; if I want to insert a chapter it is easier to have in general let me say 10 connected textframes (for each chapter one connected textframe-structure). I see the point "general" and "name" in the textstyle menue. The problem: If I don't choose "general", I get several text frames all starting with 1 (which means: I have 10 chapters called 1). See PDF1 If I choose "general" only for the main title, I get chapters 1, 2, ... but the subtitles start with a leading "0", because it is another logic behind. (See PDF2) If I choose "general" also for the subtitles, they count correctly, but each subtitle style counts for itself over the document. (See PDF3) What I would like to have is shown in PDF 4. I know two solutions: Generating additional text styles, e. g. in black, blue, red, green... But with 10 chapters you get a lot of text styles. The other solution: Producing 10 single parts of the book, and at the end joining the PDFs together. Is there a more clever solution? Thanks P.S. And please: Program an automatic cross referencing... 4. I have just advised another new forum member about the common misunderstanding about the use of the Title field in messages. Can I suggest that you include a post in the Frequently Asked Questions forum which explains the proper use of the Title field.I would not necessarily expect new members to read all the FAQ first, but it would help if, when responding to a new user who misinterprets the Title field, members could provide a link to this FAQ post. This would also ensure that we are all giving the same advice. Ideally the forum software should be modified to avoid the use of the word Title but, until such times, my suggestion could be more easily implemented. John
  5. A document I created as a template for other docs is creating PDF files that contain a "title" that refers to what must be a prior version of the file. I believe the document header must contain something like what an html doc has: <title>You Put Your Doc Title Here</title> In a browser, the doc title should show in the tab, as in the attached screen print. What's showing is totally different from the actual document name. Is there some way I can fix this? TEMPLATE-MCF-1-UP.pdf TEMPLATE-MCF-1-UP.afpub
  6. Publisher insists on using, as the title string that it embeds in both PDF and JPEG output files, the name of an .aftemplate file that was deleted from disk. But the program has stored that name string somewhere and will not let go of it. How do I get rid of it? Otherwise I will have to run ExifTool and edit the string every time I export a document. Having the title that far off the mark just isn't acceptable. For a PDF file, the string in question is written as the document title (ExifTool shows the tag name as simply "Title"). For a JPEG file, ExifTool shows the string being used as the value of the IPTC tag "ObjectName". If need be I'm willing to edit the Windows registry to get rid of this thing. Please tell me it can be gotten rid of...
  7. Since creating artboards in version 1.8, the name of the artboard no longer appears above it in the canvas area. How can I get that back? Thanks!
  8. Give a new Publisher file the name "A". Save it. Close it. Open file "A" and save it as "B". Open "Fields" in saved document "B" and under "Document Information" the "Title" field will read "A", which is what the name of what the file WAS, not what it IS now. There is a title-filename mismatch that persists. Even if you close the app down and start afresh, the mismatch persists. See attachment. Yes I know, I can manually change the Title field but a) that's not productive and b) it doesn't stick. The title field in "B" reverts to the first document's filename. I could hard wire it, but that defeats the purpose of a field doesn't it? The field seem unable to update itself automatically and there is no manual key for doing so. Win 64, AP 1.7.1.404.
  9. Hi, where can i set up author, title and other informations for pdf export? Just for copyright informations.
  10. I would like to have multiple images in my scientific document with text on top ('title') and some text below ('caption'). I want it to be easy to make similar images + title + captions all over the document. What is the correct way to achive this in Publisher? What I have done now is: Use the 'Square tool' to create an area (in this case red) in which the title + image + caption must fall Create a text block for the title Create an image block for the image Create a text block for the caption Make sure the text and image blocks are children of the red square Use the above red square as a dummy for the rest of my document. Is this the correct way of doing what I want?
  11. Today I thought I'd have a bash at trying to recreate a still from the opening title sequence of "Wynonna Earp". (No spoilers please, I'm still plodding on through the second series.) It was entirely done in AD. I'm sort of happy with it but there are a few things that don't look quite right to me. A. The logotype isn't perfect but I'm not too bothered about that. B. I can't quite get the background right. I've tried all kinds of gradients and transparencies but I just can't make it look like I want it to. I tried to get a better fade from red to dark red but I keep getting bands where the colour seems to jump. C. The logotype isn't as "liquidy" as I wanted it. It's okay, but I wanted it to be a bit more like "dirty liquid gold". Does anyone have any tips for the background or "liquid" text? (They have to be usable in AD, I don't have APh.)
  12. Hi! It would be great to be able to hide artboad labels. For instance, if you want to zoom out and look at your artboards, the labels are overlapping and don't look good at all. Plus, hiding the labels gives you a better idea of what the design looks like.
  13. Hi, is there any chance to add support for meta tags (like <title/>) in SVG file in Export options? It would be nice if <title/> equals file name. I think it would be helpful for front-end developers in some scenarios ;-) What do you think?
  14. Command-clicking on a document window's title text should show the filesystem path to the document in a drop-down menu (see attached). Choosing any location from the menu should open that location in the Finder, for quick access to other files in that location. This has been a system-wide Mac OS convention since the early '90s. You'll find it on just about every app that deals with documents, with the notable and disappointing exception of Affinity Designer. Apple documents the expected behavior here: https://developer.apple.com/library/content/documentation/Cocoa/Conceptual/WinPanel/Tasks/SettingWindowTitle.html Though it may seem like an unimportant feature, it is second-nature to many Mac users, and every one of us who needs to locate an open Designer file in the Finder will be cursing Serif for the lack of this feature as they manually hunt around for the file. It's just not good business to annoy your users in this fashion when a much easier solution is practically given to you by the OS. Please remedy this as soon as possible.
  15. Hey, Really like working with AD, at least when it doesn't crash. Which is does now, a lot - like every other minute. Seems mostly when dealing with artboards. Also, to make a crash more annoying, the studio hides and the tools "undock". To re-launch AD after a crash I have to: 1. Launch AD. This launch however, will freeze. 2. Force quit AD. 3. Re-launch AD. 4. Re-dock Tools. 5. Reset Studio. 6. Open the work file. 6. Create a new document and add any shape to the canvas. (This is the only way for the layers in the studio to actually appear.) 7. Close the new document. 8. Get back to work, until it crashes again. 9. Rinse and repeat from step 1. Needless to say, this is EXTREMELY frustrating and time consuming. I would have posted this under bugs, but seems you have closed that forum. Aanyway.... When I sufficiently zoom out, I would really like to see the overlapping artboard labels hidden. There is no point in showing something that looks like this (attached image):
