  1. It would be a very useful feature to copy the features of a text , color type, size and color contour like Corel Draw funcion.
  2. If I select some artistic or frame text in build 1.5.0.6 and copy or cut it to the Windows clipboard, I can see it on the clipboard but I can't paste it at the text cursor.
  3. Greetings I find that combining separated pieces of artistic text in paragraphs can be very useful and I couldn't found a command that make this. If I press the normal combine, the text is converted to curves.
  4. Version 1.5.0.6, I was exporting some pretty text to SVG, checked the thing telling it to export the text as curves, but no, it exported it as text. I had to go back, turn the text into curves inside the editing window and then export it to SVG.
  5. Upon clicking the paragraph alignment tool dropdown (normal left/center/right buttons work fine), displays dropdown for one frame and then crashes. Reproducible.
  6. Hi everybody! Amazing work with Designer! I am working as a graphic designer and I make extensive use of typography. Of all the wonderful tools Designer provides, seeing serious typographic options was a relief! (Still missing a glyphs panel though, which is really important I think, especially with dingbats or special characters drawn within the typeface). BUT, I may miss something, but to me is really weird to see an auto-hyphenation text box missing in such a complete piece of software, especially in english! Am I overlooking it? I would like also to let you know that sometimes ( i really can't get the ratio in this, it just seem to happen randomly) if you type a precise paragraph leading distance (let's say 1 pt) Designer reads it as line height numbers (so leading as 1 lines) instead of 1 pt, and sometimes even mixes both measurements, resulting in weird unprofessional spaced text or forcing you to use two different systems within the same document, which is really confusing. I don't know if that's intentional and I am missing how to use one of those or if at least one of the two systems can be deactivated. I attach two screenshot showing what i mean. One text uses 12 pt leading, the other writes 1 pt but is in all evidence 1 line height! I really hope you improve these simple text features (hyphenation, glyphs and fix leading) to have a really amazing program for professional use also outside of illustration! BTW the text rendering is FANTASTIC, to see such sharp and beautiful typography is worth the price alone! Hope to be of some help, keep it up!
  7. The system crashes when you click on the small arrow next to the text alignment options in the toolbar. See attached gif.
  8. How do I go about putting an image over text and wrap the text around the image. This can be done in PagePlus but I can't find a way to do it in Affinity.... love the prog.
  9. Hi! Today icon fonts are a de-facto in UI design and there are tons of libraries available. It would be very useful to have a glyph palette or studio to list them all for quick&dirty usage in projects. Just a simple grid should work. Pick or double click to insert them in a text object. I know you love to do things "the very Serif way" so candies such as CSS escape code or hex code label for each character should be a well praised feature! :) Cheers!
  10. I have this artboard composed of figures and text for a journal publication. Randomly occurring, after selecting a text object and moving it, it leaves a flashing dashed outline of the text in the original position like a "ghost" of the original text. This "ghost" cannot be selected, deleted, and always returns even after closing the file and quitting AD. It does not even appear as an object in the layer panel. Is this a function in AD that I am unaware of or this is a bug? Picture attached. See "Small Events" with dashed outline at top. BTW - it does not appear if the image is printed or exported as a .tiff, .eps, or .pdf. Many thanks.
Hi, In this Affinity Photo Tutorial, I show you how to create the metal text effect. Because you need a metal gradient, which is not included in Affinity Photo, I provided already a video, where I show how to create a metal gradient: YouTube Tutorial: create, save & export a metal gradient If you already know to handle the gradient tool, I show here the metal gradient including the color codes. Farbcodes Metall Verlauf (von links nach rechts) / color codes gradient (from left to right): #656C72 #F1FAF9 #848587 #595959 #919B9D #66686C Have fun with the video. 12. Ciao Jack Hi, In this Affinity Photo Tutorial, I show you how to create the aluminum text effect. I use layer effects, in order to achieve a bright, shiny and sharp metal. Furthermore I create a scratched metal background with a vignette. 13. When I try to put an accent on a vowel dosen't work. When I push the accent key and then any vowel the result must be a vowel with accent glipho but instead the result it is the plain normal vowel glipho. instead of á, é í ó ú I get a e i o u.
  14. I have done some nice clip art with Affinity now, and included the SVG export on my web page. I love how smart the nodes can be. (My DrawPlus is no newer than X5) But creating technical line art for use in other programs is not going so well. I fail to get real text when I export to EPS, or PDF; but SVG seems to work well, and have real text. WMF export is not readable by anything I have.
  15. I've just done a CD jewel case and onbody job in Designer which I've always used InDesign for, but just found some niggles TEXT: When starting a job I like to supply picky clients with a font choice sheet, where I'll take a few lines of text and select a font then Alt/shift/drag to duplicate then click on the font panel to cycle through the fonts to find something else thats fitting in style with the job but this is a bit of an headache in designer as when clicking in the font panel it brings up the font preview and starts from recent fonts at the top AAAAAAGGGHH I know this is all a bit picky but it's been a part of the workflows of all the companies I've worked for over the past 15 years - it would just be so handy to select the text box containing the text you want to change -go to the font panel and scroll down with the arrow keys alphabetically from where you left off and without the font preview showing - It would also be handy to be able to switch off the recent fonts as in Indesign - Better still, I've not used Quark for around ten years but I remember there was a shortcut for cycling through fonts where you select the text box and use a key combination plus the +/- keys (could have been the arrows) to cycle through different fonts which would work in full screen mode - I'm a bit disappointed that text size, leading, tracking, baseline etc. can't be modified with the arrow keys also - still no glyphs panel - I still have to go to Illustrator for most of my vector illustration for the blob brush, Mesh warp, free distort, multiple fills and strokes to groups which is a massive time saver - It's also a real niggle that you can't view bleed on the page or have off page guides plus a printable slug area for custom info / spot colours / Cutter dies - I also had problems with a CD duplication house pdf spec template: designer wouldn't let me save a PDF - I've since traced it down to custom non printable spot colours on the supplied Template - Loving where it's going with the 1.5 beta but just pine-ing for the above On a smile-ire note, I'm now using Photo for 80 percent of my photo/raster work which is ACE, clipping paths should be easier to create though Can't wait for Publisher
  16. Hi. I just started to explore the beta and already enjoyed it, it seems to have great potential. And it's the first program that has a bit of the intuitive usability I loved so much in Ulead PhotoImpact! It's still a shame that Corel stopped development. I already found the "Styles" in Affinity Designer and it currently seems to have some limited attributes one can define as a style. But only single effects. From the roadmap I read that they might get improved in future? -Text features including Text Styles, Bullets and Numbering -Multiple Effects/Fills/Strokes per shape Will this make it possible to have an Style- and Effectslibrary like in PhotoImpact? In PI one can even right every style and modify all values and use bumpmaps etc. I have attached a pdf-file with some examples and screenshots of the possibilites. It's still possible to donwload a trial (~170MB) for Ulead PhotoImpact X3, but there are not all of those styles included. I don't expect it to be possible to directly use / import those Ulead-Styles? upi.pdf
  17. Paste Special: In 1.5.0.2 the app crashes when pasting text in RTF (Unhandled Exception) but works with Unicode. In 1.5.0.4 the App inserts 'random' characters (see attached file) and Unicode still works. In both versions, Pasting text from the clipboard inserts it as an image - is this what it is intended to do? Paste.afdesign
  18. When selecting a single character to replace with an alternative after replacing once the list grays out and I can't choose another different one. after this happens it's difficult to get the list to activate again. The font I'm testing with is Desire Pro so I should have lots of alternates to choose from.
  19. I’m so excited to finally be playing with the Windows version! Well done, and thank you. Some observations, queries, and suggestions based on my first experiences: I have my Windows taskbar set to auto-hide, and it’s not accessible when I’m in AD. I can press the Windows key to bring it up, but it would be nice to be able to move the cursor down to the bottom of the screen to access it, like I can from most apps. It would be nice to be able to tab between input fields, in dialogues and in palettes in the studio. I like to use keyboard shortcuts as much as possible, but it feels slow and clunky to have to manually click in each field to enter a new CMYK colour, for example, instead of tabbing between them. Esc doesn’t work across dialogues as I would expect it to. For example, if I bring up the preferences, I have to click “Close” to make it go away. Likewise for layer effects. Again this interrupts my keyboard shortcut flow. Also with layer effects, it would also be nice to have a single Cancel option. Sometimes I like to fiddle and play with effects to see how they look, but then decide to cancel. As far as I can tell, I need to remove each effect I’ve added. Perhaps this is just a different approach that I will grow to like once I’m used to it. Are there ways to create presets for new documents, PDF export, etc? That would be very useful for me. What about viewing colour separations? It’s essential for my work. I’ve found working with text to be extremely buggy. AD has crashed more than ten times on me just doing basic text operations like changing fonts, font size, leading, escaping the text frame, etc. I will create another thread as soon as I can pin it down and be a bit more specific about the steps that lead to crashes, but for now it seems like there are a lot of issues with text, and many things have triggered the crashes. Also, relating to text: Ctrl + Shift + > makes the text bigger, as I am used to in InDesign and Illustrator, but only one step for each press. It would be nice to be able to press and hold it to scale a large amount quickly. Or is there another way to do this? No warning for overset text? Is it possible to flow text between frames? Filler text isn’t selectable, except as a whole block. It would be useful to be able to edit it directly, as if I had typed it. A few times certain characters wouldn’t appear when I typed them, but others would. An invisible space would appear, so I could continue typing afterwards, and clear the missing character, but still not type it. This seemed inconsistent and irregular, but was consistent for certain characters within a frame in a session. It was usually followed by a crash. If “Check Spelling While Typing” is checked, everything I type is marked with the red squiggly line. When I restart AD after a crash it usually (but not always) says that it has been restarted after a serious error, and asks if I would like to send the error report. I always choose Yes, but then don’t see anything else about it. Does it send in the background, or should it be obvious that it is sending? Any other suggested best practices for error reporting, or tracking steps that cause crashes? Obviously it’s helpful if we can list steps to recreate a crash, but anything else? Any way to automatically track and save a history? Aside from the above problems I’m excited. It seems fast and has lots of useful features that I look forward to exploring more thoroughly. I look forward to a time when it’s stable and I can really start relying on it in my day-to-day workflow. Thanks for all your hard work, and the chance to give it a spin for free!
  20. The insert text from file feature does not appear to permit insertion of anything but Affinity files. It seems it should allow word or other word processors. Is this a bug or a design feature?
  21. Hello, Arabic text (and other RTL text such as Hebrew) is not rendered correctly. It is rendered 'back to front'. Here is an example picture. The correct rendering is shown in the LibreOffice window. It is also correct in the Affinity "Layer" panel. On the canvas itself, it is back to front.
  22. I'm new to Affinity Photo. How do I crop a vector image from its background and add text around the image? Thank you!
  23. Can the process be reversed? Once a path/shape is converted for text is it possible to release the text to be regular text again? Thanks.
  24. Dear team, Though I had been using Fireworks for 15 years, I've just decided to switch to AD. I love it so much and I'm very looking forward to symbol and previewing for export image. Please keep on. BTW, I'm aware unknown purple outline appears around a first letter when I type the text on the canvas. Is this a known behavior? If it were to be a bug, I'll log it to Bug form. Thanks,
  25. From my attached file, it cannot click on text. (only happen to Beta versions, the store version can be run correctly) please fix it next Beta. Cheers. textbox.psd
