  1. I paste text into a table cell, highlight the table row, right click and choose "Autofit Row to Contents". The bottom of the cell boarder covers the text (see attached). I have tried working with Character and Paragraph settings to fix this, but I have only fixed the top (setting Space Before to 6 pt, and Use Space Before: Always).
  2. First of all, thank you for making this amazing product. I almost instantly decided to leave Adobe's products after I used Affinity Designer. One thing I used to find annoying with Photoshop/Illustrator is lack of support for writing text in RTL languages like Arabic or Farsi. It is available only in ME editions which are hard to find and sometimes outdated. Right now, I couldn't get RTL text writing in Arabic to work with Affinity Designer, and it would be great if this feature was implemented. Thanks,
  3. When I place an Affinity Designer graphic with several creative text instances (some left- and some right-justified) all text is shown as left-justified. The graphic is made with Designer 1.6.5.123 and is displayed correctly in Designer itself.
  4. Hi there. So, I got an error copying text with bullets from one cell to another cell (cells from different tables) -> happened twiced I've removed the bullets manually and nothing happened. So i think there's something related to the bullets. EDIT: i've tried again with other cell and nothing happened. maybe was something about the text format, not sure.
  5. Hello: I come with some Ideas for Affinity Designer... When you create a text that said: "Hello World" I would like that you have a option for split this text and when you click this option, it will put "Hello" in one layer and "World" in another layer and the option if you want split by word or by letter. When you are working with curves, I would like that you can select a node and you have the option for rotate this node or scale this or those nodes selected. Have the option for convert a Bitmap to vector. Have a option that you can create your own brushes without save any picture, is like pattern along path. If is possible, compatibility with Illustrator brushes. When you select the Pen Tool, it have the option of Stability, I would like another option for do perfect curves, like in InkScape when you select Spiro. Effects for curves. More transformation option for text like liquify and this transformation option that you can see in Illustrator. More variety of adjustment and filters. At the moment this is the ideas that I have. If I get some more I will let y'all know. Thanks. I love affinity products.
  6. Windows 10 - Publisher 1.7.0.128. Is there a way to get a Linear Gradient to be anything other than horizontal in a Text Frame fill? For example, I'd like to be able to make a gradient from light grey at the top, going down to white at the bottom. I've looked around a bit but I can't see anything relevant. It's not a big issue as I can easily do what I want another way (well, probably a few other ways), I'm wondering if I'm just not seeing a better solution.
  7. I work a lot with Japanese texts and this would be my request feature number 1. When you are writing in horizontal, you can change your selected text to vertical orientation. (When I tried , that bar didn't flip from horizontal to vertical.) Like this example: (カレー). (This is wrong writing) x (This is acceptable) カ カ レ レ x ー > | That also works inside Text Editor for mac, when you go to Layout Orientation > Vertical. My other suggestion is to add something like World and iPages that is called > Phonetic Guide Text. (It's used for both Japanese and Chinese called Furigana or Ruby) Japanese Indesign has all these features for writing in Japanese too. Arigatou!
  8. In some vector graphics applications, for example Omnigraffle for the Mac, all objects with an area can contain text. Arrows can have labels, so technically, they contain text too. Even groups can have their own text. In addition, text boxes can be formatted with outlines and background colors, just like any other object. This makes it a lot easier to label figures in diagrams and other drawings than the nested text box approach currently used by Designer and Photo. Having a similar feature in Affinity Designer would be highly useful.
  9. Using and teaching computers for 40 years, and running senior's classes for last 20 - mostly PC and taught Pageplus as the best DTP I had come across - but sadly not for Mac as I am. However, this beta fits the mould ; currently trying to transfer vast quantity of random autobiog notes from Curio into booklets. Most enjoyable is list of contents and index - so easy to use. This query is for a list of favourite text styles at top of list of so many - as in Pages, would make life much easier. You are doing a great job!
  10. When I export a document with black text as a print PDF, the text in the PDF is built in 4-color (cmyk). For printed products, it is important that black text be printed in black (k) only.
  11. I come from a background in layout and illustration of college science textbooks, before Desktop Publishing existed. I have never used InDesign, Quark, etc., so discussions of their features, terminology, or usages do not mean much to me, nor do I have much idea how my needs might be met by a DTP. Most seem to be overpriced or over-featured for my list of basic wishes. I am hoping that AfPub is trying to be the so-far-missing program between a user like myself and the expensive world of InDesign. My basic needs are listed below. Will I be able to meet them with AfPub when it is fully released? For example, I love the two-page, accurately margined and paginated spread, and the indexing. Will the rest be there? My needs seem, to me, to be a basic set for a DTP, but are they? I want to produce what will eventually be a number of long (open-ended 100+ pp.) text documents. I want them to be rather profusely illustrated with captioned, numbered Figures, Charts, Maps, etc., probably at least one such per page, more likely more. The documents are, however, primarily text, so I need the text to be easily editable, and the text linkages to be continuous, at least through each section or chapter. Not sure how text boxes would work for this. I want the illustrations to be grouped with their captions, and not to interrupt the flow of the basic text. I want to control the flow of uninterrupted text around the illustrations. I am trying to present information, not “artiness.” The illustrations are also intended to present information, not artiness. I want to be able to control the scaling and/or proportions of the illustrations as I import them. Importing from Photo and Designer seems good, and I look forward to that. I want to be able to generate TOC, and Tables/Lists of Figures, charts, maps, etc. automatically. i want to be able to control pagination, so that I will be able to stitch together various parts as I work on them. I need to work on parts or sections out of order, so some dynamic numbering is important. I want to have indexing. I want text styling for the various levels of body, captions, headings, and so forth. I want to be able to create the styles easily, and for them to be conveniently displayed for quick usage. I want running headers/footers, controlled by assigned heading levels in the text. I want an outline, dynamically created by headings, for organization and navigation. i want to be able to produce footnotes or endnotes, and possibly to cross-reference material. Perhaps a bibliography. i want to be able to lock (and unlock) finished portions so that their layout will be undisturbed by later editing in the document. I want to be able to create a new document based on these elements in a finished document, so that I will not have to recreate all the styles, page layout, etc. A template, or other ability to call out the formatting and styles of an existing document in a new document. i see elements of my needs all throughout what I have seen in AfPub, but somehow the basic process of creating a continuous, illustrated, long text document seems missing to me. Or am I missing something that is there, or going to be there, and I am simply waiting on a manual to guide me into it? So far, I see elegant brochures, but not my usage; but if so, why is a feature such as indexing already available? Will AfPub work for me?

I'm finding that when I try either to place a text file, or use the "insert text from file …" option in the contextual menu from a text frame, all my own files with text – docx, doc, rtf – are greyed out. I notice that in the tutorial videos they copy and paste text from TextEdit. I'm so surprised this feature isn't working, that I'm wondering if it's just my system. Running Beta 1.7.0.57 on OSX 10.13.6. Any ideas?
  13. The UI for changing the text styles in the main window is robust and of high quality. It would be useful if it were easier to redefine existing text styles, or create new ones based on the customised text we already have established via overrides. The current version, where you have to create new text styles manually via the text menu is a little awkward.

    Editable 3D text in Designer

    Hi everyone , I just purchased AD and it is very fun to use ! I tried to make some 3D text in Designer and ended by making theme editable like I was used to do in After Effects. Indeed, this could be usefull when you have to modify the 3D text.   15. I would like to have multiple images in my scientific document with text on top ('title') and some text below ('caption'). I want it to be easy to make similar images + title + captions all over the document. What is the correct way to achive this in Publisher? What I have done now is: Use the 'Square tool' to create an area (in this case red) in which the title + image + caption must fall Create a text block for the title Create an image block for the image Create a text block for the caption Make sure the text and image blocks are children of the red square Use the above red square as a dummy for the rest of my document. Is this the correct way of doing what I want?
  16. Hi, Firstly I am very happy with publisher. But there is one problem: In word I have some text in caps, but when I copy paste it in publisher all text that was in caps is formated like normal. I assume that it will come with .docx import. But it will be nice to have it with copy paste. Thanks (sorry for bad english, still learning)
  17. Why does the "Typographie" window only allow me to superscript certain characters? It works only on numbers 1-3 and very few other characters. If I select a 4, or an a, or most other characters the option just is not there. How do I superscript those other numbers?
  18. In a text box if the paragraph is set on "justify all" the last line must be "left justify" for not have too many spaces between words. Please see the sample below. Thank you.
  19. Granted it took Adobe something like 20 years to put this feature into Illustrator, so I'm not expecting this to appear overnight, but is there a way to convert between these two kinds of text types?
  20. There seem to be a big performance hit when text wrap (tight, both sides) is applied to grouped vector graphics. Spinning ball everything halt for about 5-6 seconds.
  21. Latest build release seem to double the text pasted in a text frame. Anyone else having the same issue?
  22. It would be great if the Table Text Tool would support pasting of data (they are usually tab separated) from a spreadsheet like Google Sheets oder Microsoft Excel. At the moment this is not possible and leads to a huge amount of work to create e.g. offers. Another, more advanced feature would be to link an existing spreadsheet table or at least CSV data directly to the Table Text Tool. What do you think about it?
  23. Hi all, i'm very new to affinity and photo editing in general. I have a picture in which I've added a layer of text. It seems that I once it's created, I can't edit the text however. clicking on it with the pointer tool selects it, or the background behind it, but won't let me edit. clicking on it with the text tool just starts a new text layer on top of the old one. I must be doing something wrong on a basic level. Any ideas? I've attached my project if anyone cares to open it up and have a look. I'm on a mac, sierra OS. affinity v 1.5.2 Thanks!!   24. When layouting, for example, white text on dark grey background the text cursor (not the mouse i-beam)is nearly invisible at the most left edge of the text frame. In Indesign it was not ideal either, but at least they offset it by 1 pixel in so the frame-edge gets double width. Also: the selection colour is just an simple overlay-color instead of inverting the selection, as was standard for over twenty years of dtp-software... I'm sure today there are more advanced blending modes possible to highlight an area.
  25. Applying the "no break" option results in text expanding beyond the text frame. Happening since 1.7.0.58 version.
